So apparently the rangers were having their own fun way to do this tournament. Slateport's Captain sent out a mass text to all rangers participating. The military like Ranger announcing a training obstacle course for any Rangers involved in the Tournament. Allowing use of their building and course for the Star Tournament to not only show what their Rangers could do. But also as prototion. See if they couldn't get more rangers out of this. So of course Razz is interested in the race style. Salem naturally his partner as this course had speed. "Alright Introduced yourselves and then at my whistle go," orders the captain. She could wait, she was a patient woman. Razz just looks at the other not sure how to do this.

He doesn't know how he's gotten himself roped into this but here he is anyways. Gone are his duties of patrolling the tournament grounds, handed off to some other ranger so that he can be dragged for this little ranger tournament he has no real interest in.

Salem rolls his eyes as it seems that both trainers were terrible at greetings it seemed. "Uhh Razz of Sootopolis... wait... sort of..." Yeah they were both terrible and the Captain could see it. Though the rangers came in all sorts of colors so oh well. [break][break]

"Just line up you newbies," she shows them were the starting line, "The aim is to reach the goal while avoiding the obstacles, over the hole, avoiding attacks etc etc, good luck!" with that she blows the whistle.

So he was a person of few words too. Good for him, a less talkative opponent means having less to think about whilst running the course. Taking his spot at the starting line, Lykaios doesn't quite take this to be a competition between him and Razz but rather a test to see how far he's slipped. And so it seems that Yuna has the same idea, huffing lightly as she bounces on her tip toes.

As soon as the whistle is blown, the Ninetales is off, using her Extrasensory perception to scout the layout ahead as her trainer follows suit.

At the whistle Razz was off, the first course was to go over the mud feild. Climbing up was simple enough, seeing as his own home was on a cliff for the longest time it was an easy task. Getting across just as simple. Rather than look and bother with the ropes Razz blindly jumps. While he knows he can't make the jump on his own its the lack of hesitation that makes him quick. [break][break]

Salem uses his PSYCHIC to bring the rope close enough for Razz to catch and swing to the next one. As to not loose momentum.

A mud field. To be greeted by such a challenge at the first turn makes Lykaios wonder if the worst is kept for last.

Leaping for the ropes, Lykaios is readily able to clear the gap, swinging between the ropes with relative ease as his Ninetales follows from below. As she dries the mud out with a trailing Flamethrower, she creates a path just for herself and crosses without breaking a sweat.

But just as they reach the end, they're met by a steep and rocky ramp, one that rumbles with every step. At the very top, sit two Snorlaxs, their maws opened wide as they yawn. With a signal from the facilitator, the two giants begin to move, causing the earth to tremble and quake.

"Stick behind me." He sighs, beginning the ascent with caution in mind. Boulders, beach balls, a barrage of water guns? Who knows what kind of things their supervisors can think of throwing at them while they climb?

Razz trips up a bit with the double Snorlax earthquake. Bringing a whole new meaning to the whole 'Rangers can transverse any terrain.' The Slateport captain was crazy damn it. Though thanks to Salem he is able to read the terrain better, the cat helping him study it and get across. [break][break]

It was rough but at least they got through in the end. Though it feels like the next round wasn't going to be as fun. As it involved moving platforms with the aid of some psychic pokemon. They were really making them work for this. So Razz jumps to the first, neeidng to wait until the next platform. Though as he jumps off one he notices the platform he was on spin. [break][break]

The climb is a little less eventful than he expects it to be, a weak sigh echoing in his chest as Yuna takes the lead once more. Moving platforms? Timing his jumps and being able to withstand all kinds of forces? He can't say he wasn't expecting something like this but damn, he really wasn't expecting to get stumped like this.

Ninetales clears the first few platforms with ease, glancing back over her shoulder and yelping at him to keep up.

He thinks the hates the flipping platforms the most out of everything. As there were a few times he was knocked over, but thankfully Salem kept him up. Now it was onto the next one. This time it was man made geysers in the middle. So to they would have to pay attention to everything around them. [break][break]

Razz test the waters some feeling as the ground rummbled a bit before something underneath used a HYDRO PUMP up through the ground. Well shit.

Even as his Ninetales barks out of excitement and gives him the puppy dog eyes, he can feel a pang of regret surging through his body as he spies the manmade geysers up ahead. Forget trying to make it past this field, he feels like he might just die if he takes a wrong step.

Yuna wraps a tail around his arm, casually leading him through the minefield and weaving past the waters with ease. She only ever stops to make sure that he's actually following her lead, giving him an eye roll when he gives her that look that begs for this to be over.

This was taking too long, Razz ponders to himself as the landmine of geysers were definitely ruining the pace. At least until an idea mustered as he could feel the land shaking under them. "Salem under us, Light Screen," he orders as Razz goes to stand on top of one. At first the cat is confused but eventually it clicks as he creates the LIGHT SCREEN around them. [break][break]

The water shoots out, but rather than hurting them it just pushes the barrier with the two of them in it upand Salem continues to use his PSYCHIC powers to pull them forward completely skipping most of the obstacle.

Contrary to the outcries of the obstacle course creators, Razz isn't quite cheating but rather, thinking smart. Unfortunately for Lykaios, his Ninetales possesses no such ability to counteract the geysers. Or so he thinks, not expecting the Ninetales to stick her head into one of the geysers and release an Inferno that tears through the entire underground network. Smoke rises from the other openings and the field soon grows quiet, allowing them to traverse the rest of the terrain without much hassle.

Up ahead, a makeshift jungle awaits them, a spiderweb of vines, branches and roots twisting and extending to trip up whoever dares to enter the depths. Once it's cleared, there's no doubt that the finish line will be up ahead. And with the end, the ability to apply for a resignation from any more ranger events.

This next part of the course reminds him of what Zac Ramsay put him through when he was going up for a promotion. So he already had the practice for this. He was bobbing and weaving, between the webs with practiced ease. If the older ranger were there Razz was sure he'd be proud. For now he was almost there. [break][break]

Salem meanwhile decided it would be fun to be his little devious self as he would manipulate the webs for their opponents.

As masterful as the Meowstic may be at floral manipulation, he's still going up against a pyromaniac at heart. With maws open wide, she bellows with flames, scorching the meddling vines and roots away from their faces.
