The guy laughed and elaborated. Opportunists and cowards. And yet..."Still seemed like they made some bold plays as of late. From capturing Sootopolis to attacking Mt. Pyre and Littleroot. I doubt any of those left with much opportunity given they knew League trainers were there..." Seemed odd that they would strike when the entire purpose was to divert the meteor and destroy the dome. Unless they knew something the League didn't. Keenan ignored the Crustle running away from them, even as his Houndoom growled at it.

Then came the comment about the gym challenge. Scratching the back of his head, Kee corrected the man. "The gym challenge was actually my idea. Since I have no idea what I want to do with my life. Ace already had some good ideas. I don't know what changed or how he stuck in two more challenges than I did, but it looks like he was going after it as well. He earned the first one by a chance encounter with noah faber just before we left, and we challenged him to a double battle. His Electrike beat my Houndour, and Gym Leader Noah's Hitmonchan took a draw against Ace's Trevenant..." That was a heart pounding fight. Though even Aaron admitted that the Hitmonchan was likely to win with another Ice Punch or two. "Which ones? Did you find it hard to schedule challenges? I've been having terrible luck trying to find one with an opening..."

"Oh, he's fine. In his words, all the Rockets he faced were either cowards or pansies or both. He wasn't impressed with them. And really wanted to go after them, but he got into some wierd space that prevented him from doing so. He got out without a scratch on his pretty head. Only his Steelix and Metagross got hurt a little bit, but they were still very much combat ready. I'm not too surprised really...he just showed off his third gym badge...where I only have one so far..." And Ace was probably one of the strongest youths in the little town. And was proving it.

An Anorith crawled out of the rocks and started to attack. The rumbling from the Earth Power made a Larvesta drop on top of Houndoom's head. The bug was let down, and then snuggled the dog. After some cooing, Keenan picked it up and fed it some berries he had. It was so appreciative, it actually found a Pokeball and made himself go inside. Well...that was a first that has ever happened. "Anyways, he's probably the strongest youth in town, including the high schoolers and young adults. As worried as I am, he'll be fine if that's all that happened to him..."

The guy seemed much more embarrassed than actually hurt. That was good. Even if his Pokemon seemed confused if it did that or not. The big oaf banged a tree, sending down a...Sneasler? Was that what it was called? Well, it was caught now by the other lad. Reaffirming that he was fine, the guy started to yell at his Pokemon. It lacked a bit of heat though, like he was more irritated than mad. "Is he recently evolved? It may not be used to his own size if that's the case..." Hopefully it was...but if not, then that was one clumsy Golurk.

The guy then mentioned something about hating winter. "It's a tropical region. Only reason we get snow is if a Pokemon uses Hail or the Weather Institute has something to do with it. I think this time it's them, and they do it on purpose to give us a snow day or something. Probably should lodge a complaint if that's the case." Keenan was more amused than anything. He did sometimes missed those times in Johto, however rare it was that Olivine got something. "Say, where you heading? Want some human company?" Unless proven otherwise, Kee was more trusting than most. Almost an adorable innocence. Seems he's grown a bit out of his awkward social interaction with strangers since he left Littleroot, but there was still a tinge of nervousness in his voice.

Keenan nodded. Of course, it didn't exactly help that his little brother evidently got involved in the fighting. Thankfully not getting hurt nor his Pokemon taking much damage, but still. He was a worry wort. A terrified Bonsly came out, followed by a rampaging Rampardos. That was cool! Before he could even say the word, his Houndoom stepped in front of the beast, and used Protect, blocking the Take Down no problem. Then he used Dark Pulse. The Rampardos avoided it, and tried to use Chip Away. Only to get knocked back with Fire Blast. And again with Dark Pulse. Rampardos struggled to get up, but Keenan threw a pokeball at it. "Anyways, yeah, my parents live right on the edge of Littleroot. Thankfully their place was spared everything, but my little brother decided to get involved in the fighting for only Arceus knows why. I'm sure he already got a scolding of a lifetime from mom, but he's probably more stubborn than they are...and perhaps way too confident in his abilities..." Not that he could blame the tyke. Aaron was probably one of the town's strongest youths, including high schoolers.

When the guy's expression turned into a look of apology, Kee figured he didn't know anyone was out here. Though admittedly, it wasn't exactly a popular campsite or anything. Then he mentioned sightings of Megalopolans in the area, adding a concerned look. The amber eyed teenager paled. Didn't they use Ultra Beasts? Super powerful pokemon from their home dimension? "R-really? I didn't know...I haven't seen or heard anything of late...guess I've been more concerned about how everyone back in Littleroot were doing..." Thankfully he hadn't encountered anything unusual.

A bold Lampent did go after the guy's Nidoking. Meanwhile, a wild Growlithe did come out, having witnessed Keenan saving that Amaura, and said Amaura going into a Pokeball. The puppy sparked a conversation with Keenan's Houndoom. And while they were talking, the Growlithe evidently issued a challenge...only to be knocked away with a single Dark Pulse. Keenan saw it, and threw a Pokeball. Another puppy for the team?

It was an odd Pokemon's doing. Some divergent evolution of Scyther. No, that wasn't right...old evolution of Scyther? Kee was trying to wrap his brain around where he heard/seen that Pokemon before, even while the Amaura booped his pokeball and got inside it. "Yeah, I'm fine." Much as his Houndoom wanted vengeance on the old Pokemon, he stayed back and let the Nidoking do its thing, the other trainer threw a Luxury Ball. Weren't those kind of expensive? "That's where I've seen or heard of a Kleaver! Sorry, anyways, yeah, so it seems. Though you weren't exactly hiding either...practically inviting trouble with your 'king's stomping around. That's why I'm out here, couldn't sleep and decided to investigate it..." He hoped he didn't just ruined the man's night hunting or anything. Though it was also not nice to be doing that and disturbing...well, everyone. There were better ways to night hunt for Pokemon.

Keenan nearly had a heart attack! How could someone be so lucky as to have TWO fossil Pokemon show up right in front of them?! Both Pokemon seemed curious about the trainer and Pokemon. The guy didn't seem so bad as he offered the Lileep treats, and consequently, tried to capture it. Startling the Amaura, it started to run off. But Keenan noticed someone or something had taken a chunk out of a tree, causing to start to fall...right on top of the prehistoric Pokemon! The blonde darted out before thinking and tackled the Pokemon out of the way before his Houndoom could do anything. Both him and the Amaura got up, and it looked like it was about to bolt again, but saw the tree that nearly crushed it. Looking back at Keenan with wide and shiny eyes, the boy couldn't help but take out a Pokeball. "Wanna come with?" The prehistoric pokemon booped the Pokeball.

Meanwhile, Kee's Houndoom moved beside him, growling at an unknown foe, clearly not aiming his hostility at the fossil Pokemon or at the stranger.

A beautiful night punctuated by thundering footsteps...Keenan couldn't get to sleep because of them. Getting up, it seemed his Gliger was also awake. Perching himself on the blonde's shoulder, they decided to check out what was making that racket. It was definitely aggrivating the local Pokemon, but they also weren't going after it. Keenan soon found why. A Nidoking. Such a cool looking Pokemon. His own Gliger didn't like the looks of it. The duo seemed to be walking with purpose though. His judgement told him to run the hell away and just hope that they leave the area or got tired of making a racket.

But another part of him told him to stay and watch, see if they needed help with something. Sooner or later, a Pokemon was going to attack them. They weren't going to let this go on forever. Or for long...

Keenan was heading back to Littleroot to assess the damage done by Rocket. Aaron had been there, and evidently also fought several rocket goons. And of course it also snowed. In a tropical region. He couldn't help but think the Weather Institute had something to do with it. Since they normally didn't have snow. The trainer was sure it was playing hell with the bug and grass Pokemon in the area. Poor guys. He had already helped a couple get to shelter and got them warmed up for now. The blonde had his Houndoom out for now.

He did hear a swear word though. And rushing towards it did the blonde and his dog go. To find...a man? rubbing his forehead from a branch, a Golurk nearby. "Hey, you alright? I got some pain killers if you need any..." It was the basic stuff for a headache, but he also didn't know how hard that branch hit the cute little guy. He also half wondered what he was doing out here aside from maybe trying to reach home, wherever that was for them.

Keenan was slightly worried when Josh started talking again. Then the man reassured that it was nothing that he did. Just reiterating that it was the path the gym leader chose, and while he didn't know how hard it would be until recently, he was still committed to it. The saying given could be applied to most things. "That saying could be applied to a lot of things. I've been told I just need to jump in and think about things later...especially from my younger brother who already has two badges compared to my one...and inspires to be a gym leader while I have no clue where to go with my life..." Josh was still good on his promise, awknowledging that he didn't have to be on the driver's seat. He would be okay if it was someone he knew and trust.

Nodding, Kee just smiled. "Yep, I'll try to get in whenever I see an opening. I've been checking a lot lately to catch up with baby bro. I'll probably skip the race though, being chased by Rayqueza with Greyson's challenge was enough for me..."

It seemed Kee struck a cord there. He didn't know the man well, and yet it seemed Keenan hit him right where it hurts. Yeesh. Keenan was panicking...he didn't mean to upset the guy. And yet here he was making him feel bad about it. After a while of silence, and Kee thinking he messed up really badly, Josh finally said something. It still made Kee super nervous and sweating. He wasn't wrong, but it was the biggest motivator. And he knew that look. It was the same one he has whenever he ever had to do a musical or something that was very idol-esque. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean anything...just ignore me..." He was paniking so much he nearly fell off. Keenan definitely felt bad for it. But he also didn't know what else to say. Legendaries were often told be fickle beings, only showing up to worthy trainers let alone letting them be captured by them. But he didn't feel like that would really lift up any spirits. Now down, he wondered what he could do now...maybe leave?

Seemed Kee wasn't the only one playing with a limited team. They rounded a corner to another course and spotted one. The thing that really seemed to bother Josh was not being able to at least video feed his family. He could sympathize with that. Kee was pretty well in contact with his family except his oldest brother. And even that was worrying him a lot. "Yeah, I don't see them being down for too long." People were jumpy, and he was sure the region's government was extremely wary of the neighboring Kanto's situation. Wanting to always be on guard, but still needing to let people do their thing. It was a precarious balance.

The blonde listened to Josh speak of his childhood a little bit, being inspired by the legendary beast. Plus the recent events, perhaps a lot closer to the truth than he realized. Well, you never know. Fastest land Pokemon...it sounded like the gym leader was an adrendiline junky, really. Kee may likes his thrills once in a while, but this was too much. "No offense, but you sound like an adreniline junky. I may like my thrills once in a while, but I don't think I can handle that all the time. Surely there's more to Raikou than its speed that you like? It seems pretty shallow if that was all that you liked about him. And that's not counting the G-forces you would have to put up with either..." Hopefully that didn't offend him. Kee's Houndoom continued to move with the Greninja with surprisingly good breathing and general stamina. Even Kee was surprised by it when he realized it.

Keenan nodded with a goofy grin. "Yep. Big bro is still there as a Pokemon breeder and rehab therapist. Plus I keep my extra Pokemon there. Although...this dome has made that exceptionally difficult..." And he wished he could help out with that, but he didn't know how. Maybe his brother was right to switch to his parent's place for the foreseeable future. "I thought Johto repelled the invasion? Most of the fighting was in the mountains by Blackthorne and Mt. Silver, but I do know that some infiltrated the Radio Tower in Goldenrod and stirred up trouble at the Lake of Rage, but otherwise Johto remains pretty secure..." He would have thought events would continue going on given that those all got resolved. Scary that they happened, but Johto had their heads on straight. Sometimes he wondered if Hoenn did or if the continual disasters just kept them worn down. Though he didn't voice this thought.

Josh confirmed the blonde's guess. Though at the same time, he mentioned the patron diety of Johto. "So? Look, every other week, Hoenn has a new disaster, often stemming from some legendary popping up causing trouble. Not just Rocket's plans either. It wouldn't surprise me at this point if Johto's deities, Lugia and Ho-oh, both showed up here with their confidants and went at it like Rocket and the League. Unlikely? Very much so. But still a chance, no matter how unlikely it may be. Don't give up hope just because the chances are one in a million. There are those that are constantly looking for legends as well, many of them perfectly willing to work as a team I'm sure. When there's a will, there's a way. And I'll still be rooting for you when or if you do manage to see it. Heck, I wouldn't mind seeing it too." Though catching it would be a different story. And even he wasn't sure if he could pull that off. Hopefully Kee's optimism would help Josh out a little as well.
