[attr="class","thadmain"]Petalburg Woods was postcard picturesque in the grip of the unseasonable Hoennian winter. Despite its beauty, the fact that Kepler had to think about ‘Hoennian’ and ‘winter’ in the same sentence was making sirens go off in his brain.

Any self respecting Bug-type, he imagined, would be hella deep in hibernation, at this point. But talking with Tempest Quinn had gotten him thinking, and in doing research, he’d realized that sometimes you could best judge the status of an ecosystem by it’s most fragile creatures.

Venus pushed aside a snow-covered branch to help Kepler pass but let it go too early and it snapped back and thwacked him across the forehead. His heavy winter hat protected him from a lot of the damage, but it still stung.

“FUCK!”

There had better be a lot of environmental karma in his goddamn future.

Keenan was heading back to Littleroot to assess the damage done by Rocket. Aaron had been there, and evidently also fought several rocket goons. And of course it also snowed. In a tropical region. He couldn't help but think the Weather Institute had something to do with it. Since they normally didn't have snow. The trainer was sure it was playing hell with the bug and grass Pokemon in the area. Poor guys. He had already helped a couple get to shelter and got them warmed up for now. The blonde had his Houndoom out for now.

He did hear a swear word though. And rushing towards it did the blonde and his dog go. To find...a man? rubbing his forehead from a branch, a Golurk nearby. "Hey, you alright? I got some pain killers if you need any..." It was the basic stuff for a headache, but he also didn't know how hard that branch hit the cute little guy. He also half wondered what he was doing out here aside from maybe trying to reach home, wherever that was for them.

[attr="class","thadmain"]He was more embarrassed than anything, and while the cold made the injury sting all that much more it also numbed it quite quickly.

“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine,” he rubbed at the faintly reddening spot between his eyes, scowling.

Venus made an apologetic mooing sound, touching her hand to her face in a did I do that? gesture. She reached for him and accidentally bumped a tree, droping a big, fluffy pile of snow down from a branch above. Kepler yelped and jumped out of the way, realizing mid-cringe that an apparently slumbering Sneasler was ensconced within the white stuff. As the snoozing Pokemon lifted her head and blinked blearily at him, he managed to get his brain in gear and threw a Pokeball before it could wake up fully.

“I don’t need anything, I’m okay. And you!” He pointed at Venus. “Watch where you’re going, dammit.” But there wasn’t a lot of heat in his voice and it was just mildly irritated more than mad.

"I hate the winter." Which was a weird and horrible thing to fucking say in a tropical region.

The guy seemed much more embarrassed than actually hurt. That was good. Even if his Pokemon seemed confused if it did that or not. The big oaf banged a tree, sending down a...Sneasler? Was that what it was called? Well, it was caught now by the other lad. Reaffirming that he was fine, the guy started to yell at his Pokemon. It lacked a bit of heat though, like he was more irritated than mad. "Is he recently evolved? It may not be used to his own size if that's the case..." Hopefully it was...but if not, then that was one clumsy Golurk.

The guy then mentioned something about hating winter. "It's a tropical region. Only reason we get snow is if a Pokemon uses Hail or the Weather Institute has something to do with it. I think this time it's them, and they do it on purpose to give us a snow day or something. Probably should lodge a complaint if that's the case." Keenan was more amused than anything. He did sometimes missed those times in Johto, however rare it was that Olivine got something. "Say, where you heading? Want some human company?" Unless proven otherwise, Kee was more trusting than most. Almost an adorable innocence. Seems he's grown a bit out of his awkward social interaction with strangers since he left Littleroot, but there was still a tinge of nervousness in his voice.

Except for Ashley Shepard, of course. “Yeah, but she’s always been like this. Doofy,” he affirmed, when Venus looked at him in confusion. Her head tilted to the side with a grind of stone on stone, indicating she did not know what the word ‘doofy’ meant.

The blonde was going on about the Weather Institute. Kepler looked him dead in the eye. In his mind, he was revisiting the scene as Kyurem ripped itself out of a hole in the universe like a Xenomorphic chest-burster, but what he said was, “Yeah. The Weather Institute. Fuck ‘em.” In a completely emotionless voice.

Venus had gotten distracted and dusted the snow off a slumbering Whirlipede that was curled up against the influx of cold. She lifted the creature of the snow and presented it to Kepler, who tossed a Pokeball at it as it began to slowly unfurl.

“Sure. Why not. I’m collecting data on the effect of this weird weather on the native species of Hoenn. For, uh, not the Weather Institute.” He turned to continue trudging through the snow.
