A matter of doing whatever it takes to achieve one’s goals. Which, of course, at the time had also been the goals of those who taught him such a lesson.

Your mission comes first. In this case, their intent had been to explore and find a suitable location for a base. The latter had not been achieved just yet, but while Mars’ own training calls for pushing forward for as long as they’re able to, experience gained long after leaving his family’s syndicate tells him something much different. These are people that are not disposable to him.

They have all grown overly wary of their surroundings, cautious even after the Dhelmise is dealt with. In priam conrad’s case, to the point of panic. Mars has to resist the urge to slap him and tell him to snap out of it. It’s what his grandfather would have done if he were here. It’s what his grandfather had done when Mars himself showed panic and fear.

”Priam. No one’s going to die. Keep your shit together.” His tone is cold and stern, but he means his words: they won’t die. At least not today, not in this place. For, even more concerning than their mental state is the physical changes that he can see in himself, in Cillian Quinn, and even in Zev Harcourt once he returns. ”Let’s get out of here before we all get turned into a goddamn coral reef, we got enough data for now… This better fade away once we leave.”

A mental note is made to suggest different gear for future expeditions into the Ultra Deep Sea, and it’s then that his gaze meets that of Gavin once again. He knows his fellow underboss will likely not disagree with his decision, but Mars sees importance in being on the same page.

”My Orbeetle can teleport us all out of here, I brought it solely for that purpose. Might want to tell Lugia to get closer to the ship.” She’s probably already as close as possible as is, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. Sighing, Mars gives his Zeraora a quiet fist bump to indicate a job well done (a common occurrence between the two of them) and calls it back to its Luxury Ball. In its place, an Orbeetle is released, and when it is, the Unown returns to Mars’ side as if suddenly appearing out of thin air.

The instructions are clear and the potent Z-Move does exactly as intended (although perhaps with nausea as a side effect)

The itch won’t go away, yet the next time he reaches to scratch his neck, what he feels is not stubble nor skin. What he feels is hard, smooth, and cold, and if it weren’t for the fact that Mars has been interested in aquatic pokémon for the grand majority of his life, he’d probably have no idea what he’s touching. The fact that he knows doesn’t make it any less concerning.

”Fulgora, come here.” He tells his Zeraora once finding a reflective surface. Even with all the dust and dirt he can see it clearly in the pokémon’s light: scales, silver and sharp. ”Fuck. That’s not good. It’s like when we went into the Tree of Life.”

The only thing they can do is keep going forward, yet the sound of distant movement persists, as does the presence of the seaweed tendrils that Cillian Quinn had pointed out when they entered. How many Dhelmise are in this place? Is it really Dhelmise? What if it’s something else? Some Ultra Beast their world has not seen yet?

Just as these paranoid thoughts join those that slowly consume the underboss’ mind, a psychic warning comes from the Unown that had ventured ahead to scout.

”GET DOWN!” Enormous chains shoot out from the distant darkness, trapping them in the hallway and blocking their exit. ANCHOR SHOT, no doubt. Perhaps even multiple ones. ”Looks like we’re fighting our way out.”

Mars looks at the group, wondering if they’re all in condition to do as much. His own TELEPORTATION can bypass trapping methods like this one if they need to escape, but there’s no way he can take them all with him in one trip with his own skills. When whistling for his Zeraora to charge, his mind is preoccupied with considering alternatives.
