[break][break] skoll much have thought so too, because the pokemon broke into a run. however the spinda was faster — it twirled to the side the moment that skoll darted to the right, to the left and the teddy bear spun again. skoll growled softly, frustration lighting in his gaze.

[break][break] callie laughed.

[break][break] "you're better than this, skoll."

[break][break] with a bark, the lycanroc launched forward with a new vengeance. he burst into a DOUBLE TEAM, followed by a accelerock. rocks split through the air as the spinda combatted with copycat, the two pieces of slab smacking together with a cracking force. skoll didn't give up though — he leaped and opened his jaws, teeth snapping around the other in a crunch. finally, it made it's mark.

[break][break] callie tossed a pokeball at the normal-type, a reward for her pokemon's win.

[attr="class","callista"] sunrises were beautiful.

[break][break] callie had seen plenty of them and in different areas of the world too. there were of course the ones in kanto, where she'd had to crawl out of her bunker in the dead of the morning, fumbling through morning routines before doing suicide runs along her comrades. when you were out of breath and heaving, and staring out just as the sun peeked straight over the horizon.

[break][break] there was johto. the sight of the sun arching over the sky, as the car rolled away from the only home she ever knew. her fingers being clutched by a social worker that she barely knew.

[break][break] coloring crayon sunrises with @sole and Alexandra Briarwood, in the safety of a pillow fort.

[break][break] and then there was —

[break][break] "skoll! where are you going?"

[break][break] the officer broke into a faster pace, as she followed her lycanroc further down the forest-ridden path.

[break][break] normally, callie doesn't love surprises. especially with people she doesn't all that well. but there is something to be said for relinquishing control —

[break][break] her arms wrap tighter around niko's, leaning into his back and dropping her chin in the crux of his shoulder. she laughs. "if you say so!"

[break][break] her heart is still in her lungs when they roll to a stop in front of a building on the other side of town. an arcade, huh?

[break][break] callie hops off, pulling off the helmet and handing it over to NIKO MANNER . "amazing. i loved it," she says, then flashes a grin. "i didn't know you rode a bike."

with a friendly bark, it's skoll who comes to greet Greyson Connors first. callie follows soon after.

[break][break] "same to you, sir." she grins at the other, arm lifting to bump her elbow with his. the first time they'd met seemed like ages ago. burying her feelings about her current situation with @sole , it was nice to see a friendly face.

[break][break] "you don't have to ask me twice. skoll!" the lycanroc had been sniffing around Greyson Connors 's shoes — as he found something particularly interesting in the boy's sneakers - and looked up at his trainer's command. nodding, the pokemon's demeanor shifted to professionalism and set to work, nose to the ground, as they headed towards the woods.

her and @sole had always had a connection like no other. even as kids, electricity had sparked between them in form of good-natured competition and rivalry. callie had many friends in her life, but none other sparked a fire in her like the one that sol did. and when sol had been gone, all that fire had been snuffed out — and turned to ash.

[break][break] but staring in her eyes again — her single eye, that is — stirred something anew in her. like heat sparking amongst the ash.

[break][break] she swallowed, thickly, then pulled away.

[break][break] her cheeks burned with the signs of a telltale blush.

[break][break] "you're alive," she said. and it was just then, as if everything that had been building up in the last few minutes came crashing down. "you're alive!" she said, and this time it wasn't with excitement. it was accusatory.

[break][break] "since when? how long?"

she's in a rush, so she doesn't immediately notice but when they're standing in front of their motorcycle, it's enough for the 17-year old to blush when she realizes they're holding hands.

[break][break] it's for this reason, she's glad for the distraction when he tosses her the helmet. the brush of cool metal against her fingers is just enough to calm her. even though she fumbles a bit when handling it.

[break][break] a motorcycle. cool. she tries her best not to be too impressed. the slight flush is hidden when she places the helmet carefully onto her head and settles into the seat behind him, arms going around to wrap around her waist.

[break][break] the rumble of the engine makes her heart lurch as they set off onto the pavement.

[break][break] "where are we going?" she asks, raising her voice so she can be heard over the rush of wind.

her arms squeeze around the other — tight, unforgiving, unrelenting. almost as if she lessens up, she's afraid that @sole will disappear from her sight again. never to be found again.

[break][break] her eyes burn, and she burrows her face in the other's shoulder.

[break][break] "i - " she whispers, her voice catching. "i can't believe it's you." she pulls away, staring deeply at the other, gaze burning. "it is you, isn't it?"

[break][break] one hand reaches up to the other, the back of her hand brushing against her friend's cheek.

who would have ever thought that she would be going on a date of all things? certainly not her. callie does her best not to be giddy at the prospect — she tries at least not to seem excited, when she texts of the recent developments to @sole . she's easygoing, chill, cool as a cucumber.

[break][break] the fact that she's going on a date, with an older guy? yeah. definitely not something she cares about.

[break][break] it's callie's idea — since they've been spending so much time together anyways, but she hardly expects him to take her up on the offer. even less that she expects him to pull up at her house of all things.

[break][break] perhaps NIKO MANNER is more of a gentleman than she thought.

[break][break] she creeps towards the door. her gaze is quick to slide towards her mother's sleeping form - passed out from the day's events, passed out with multiple beer bottles around her. astra is asleep, soundly as ever.

[break][break] there's a knock - and then a ring. shit. her mother's stupid doorbell chime rings. loudly.

[break][break] callie rips the door open.

[break][break] "let's go!" she says, her voice a bit of a high-pitched squeak, and she shuts the door behind her and grabs niko's hand. dragging him away — somewhere, anywhere, before her mom wakes up.

the floor drops beneath her, the air leaving her lungs and the world spins on its axis. standing in front of her is the one person that she thought she would never see again. the one woman that had once been her entire life — her sun, her stars, her sky. her comrade in arms, her best friend, her family.

time. what an odd concept — time had passed, years, since she had seen the likes of paxton concordas and yet things were still the same.
