"it's not much of a story, but i took a girl out to a bar on our first date. played beer pong, chugged a bit too much, and i ended up throwing up on her."

he visibly recoils from the memory as though the incident's still fresh in his mind.

"don't think she ever called me again after that."

led back towards their placed footwear, he nods, suddenly craving a mug of hot cocoa.

"it is! that sounds really nice. let's go get one."

"a little. but i'm starting to really like hoenn."

obviously, certain people and events have helped with his changed perception, and even now, in the depths of his peril, he's still able to find happiness here.

happiness, as well as nervousness.

"no, no, not nervous, no."

he basically stammers over his heads. but after a breath or two, he steels himself, clearing his throat.

"i was just...looking."

slowly, gently, his lips curl into remnants of a grin.

and at her story, he could only chuckle softly.

"that's horrible. don't fall now, though."

because in what she's wearing? surely it wouldn't end well. for her, at least.

is that what this is? it has to be, right? again, the thought causes guilt to rise, but he forces a nod and a smile, doing his best to suppress it.

"sinnoh, but my dad's from here. we recently moved back."

perhaps she's heard of newly appointed councilman GABRIEL BLACK? the man's hard to miss, given his size.

after putting his skates on, he takes her hand, then waddles his way over onto the ice. his head dips in a nod at her question, though he's quickly caught off guard by her remark.

"i...i don't? i mean...i usually squat, but i guess i haven't been hitting the gym much..."

heartbreak, and all that.

before he could catch himself, he also takes a peek at her backside, only realizing after.

no comment is made, however. he just squeezes her hand, then looks away.

her initiative catches him off guard. but then again, it's almost too easy to, given how beautiful he finds her. as painful as heartbreak is, this is a step in the right direction, isn't it?

then why does he feel so guilty?

"two pairs of skates, yes."

he nods in agreement, standing tall as their pairs are handed to them. with her arm still looped with his, he leads them over to the side, sitting so he can start to change into the skates.

"so, uh, i'm uriah. but most call me uri."

once again, uri is met with the loneliest time of the year. who would've thought? after everything he's done, he's still walking through the winter festival in slateport park all on his lonesome.

this is important, they said. use the pain, harbor it, and grow.

fuck that. uri's going to skate the pain away.

"excuse me."

he says, approaching a stranger who also looks to be by herself. what are the odds? quite high, really, but uri's already drawing up tales of fiction in his head.

"would you like to...skate with me? they make you pay if you go in solo, but it's free for couples."

but as chaos erupts all around them, uri takes a moment to gather his thoughts, breathing as he braces through the chilly winds of the BLIZZARD.

hit by a CONFUSE RAY, machamp is stopped in its advance, staggering for moments as it attempts to regain its bearings.

"chad! focus up!"

uri starts scanning the area, searching for silhouettes.
