Big fancy soirée's like this were an excellent place to rub shoulders with the elite of society.

At least, that seemed to be the notion that his higher-ups were working off. Why else would they go through the effort of arranging an invitation on his behalf? Better yet, why else woud they send over a new ensemble for him to wear? Vincent didn't care to wrap his head around it, seeing as it wasn't his job. No, his job was to stand about and look pretty alongside his Pokemon, a task easier said than done.

"Bi! Bishar!"

"Shut up and stop struggling, you ingrate! I wouldn't have to fix your tie if you didn't keep tugging at it!" The trainer hissed in hushed tones. It was a truly Sisyphean effort, trying to put any accessory on a Pokémon whose body consisted mostly of blades. Indeed, such was the reason they were currently in one of the far corners of the hall, away from the majority of the prying eyes who might see the frankly embarrassing display. All things considered, he was lucky that Bisharp had taken to grabbing at his wrists and trying to hold his hands away, rather than going for any stabbings or slicings. Still, after a few painfully long moments of awkward struggle, the tie was tightened once more, and the deed was done. The sanctity of the dress code was maintained.

"Shar..." And there he was, already trying to pull at it again. Vincent could feel his eyes beginning to roll into the back of his head. This was looking to be closer to a filtered nightmare than a filtered dream.

Public perception was everything. Reputation was the key to all success. If one's name was spoken in bitter whispers and murmured insults, then the future was nothing more than a dead end. It was only through careful maintenance of one's standing in society that one could raise it.

In short? This act, volunteering to assist in the rescue of the downtrodden and the arrest of the perpetrators, was not born of kindness. Rather, it was all an elaborate PR move, designed to gather goodwill that could be burnt for advantage elsewhere. This was a glorified act of charity, no different that a donating money, or hosting a fundraiser. It just happened to take a more up-close, personal form.

Not that his heart was so dead and blackened than he could not recognise the value of this endeavour. Rescuing Pokemon and condemning criminals? All quite swell, to be certain. But it was dressing, a nice bonus rather than a driving force.

"Any second now... Any... Second... Now..."

Vincent perched himself upon a crumbling concrete wall, eyes glancing between his wristwatch and the various warehouses and alleyways that surrounded him. This wasn't to be a solo mission, no. Rather, he had been given a "partner" to accompany him, an associate to provide assistance where necessary. An offer he couldn't balk at, given the risk inherit on entangling oneself with the worst dregs of society and their underhanded means. An extra set of hands would suit him just fine.

All that was left was to wait for said associate to arrive.

Ah, cats.

Vincent couldn't claim any strong opinions about cats. They were, in his eyes, absolutely neutral beings. Neither bad or good. Better than dogs, though that wasn't a high bar to clear. Although, his opinion wasn't the one that mattered here, was it? While his opinions trended towards lukewarm, the faceless mass of internet goons he had to appease had much greater opinions on the beasts. Well, if nothing else, picking up a team mascot wouldn't hurt.

So, the businessman would set to work trying to wrangle these cats into his employ. A process that would inevitably see him smothered by cat hair and covered in scratches. It was a day that would end in a much more dour mood than it started in. But, he was driven forward nonetheless, the hunger for relevancy overcoming any moderate pains of discomforts he might feel in his quest.




That didn't stop it from being miserable, though.

Hm. Well, he hadn't anticipated that kind of reaction, but he didn't intend to balk at it. After all, it still seemed to have gone rather well, as far as breaking the ice went. It was far from an elegant solution, but this was far, far, FAR from an elegant situation. He was talking to a stranger in a warm box, not introducing himself to the head of a major corporation!

The woman then proceeded to introduce herself as Dahlia, a name that once again rung the same bell from earlier, but once again failed to bring forth a fitting memory. Irksome, but not intolerable. He didn't linger on the topic long. If he couldn't recall anything relevant at the first impression, then repeating the same efforts would doubtlessly prove similarly fruitless. Besides, there were more important matters to attend to, like a formal introduction.

"Vincent. Vincent Reviello." The businessman leaned back, allowing himself some measure of comfort as his body slowly adjusted to the heat. "I was told that this is some manner of tradition in this place. As of such, my management encouraged me to indulge it. Not that I truly understand the specifics, but I've gathered such from the broad strokes."

"Remember, Vinny: Social media is all the rage with kids these days. That means its the perfect way to raise the profile of our brand. If there's a trend you can chase, chase it until your legs break, and snap as many pictures of it as you can. Got it?"

Vincent had "gotten it", alright. Had he not "got it", he would not be subjecting himself to the heat of a sauna in the middle of the Summer. It sounded less relaxing, and more torturous. Were all of Hoenn's local fads going to be so needlessly peculiar in their nature? What was next on the docket, jumping off cliffs and playing in traffic?

Well, not that he could complain. As much as he hated all the advertising goons he was forced to associate with, they had a point.

Taking a deep breath, he opened the door to one sauna, and was immediately greeted by another. A woman, slightly older than himself, if he was to guess. There was something about her face that rang a bell in the back of his mind. Had they met? No, he didn't think so. While her face was familiar, her voice wasn't. Then, had she been in the news? It was possible, but it was also a wide net to cast, far too wide to dredge up any specific memories. It was unfortunate, but he was unbothered. He certainly didn't plan to lose any sleep over such a trivial thing.

"That's fine with me." Vincent replied simply, spending a moment to adjust his own pair of towels (one for the waist and one for the shoulders), before taking a seat opposite Dahlia. This was the part where he was supposed to keep up the dialogue, correct? Not that he would claim to be a stunning conversationalist, but he'd engaged in plenty of water cooler small talk, and this was no different. Just exchange meaningless pleasantries until one of them left. Easy enough.

"Quite the weather we're having, hm?"

Well, maybe "easy enough" was subjective.
