The question comes naturally and with a smile when noting the way Luka addresses her, the origin of the word being easy to pinpoint even without all the years of studying linguistics that Lia has under her belt. What’s someone from Kalos doing all the way in Lavaridge? Tourism? The mystery sparks the petite woman’s curiosity.

’Do you come here often?’

At this, she can’t help but chuckle, because yes, it does sound like a pickup line even if Luka’s embarrassment makes it clear that she didn’t intend for that.

”Right?! I’ve been surprised by how many people I’ve ran into here! Although, I have to say… Company isn’t always this nice.”

The comment comes passingly, and as true as it may be: yes, it’s actually a pickup line this time. One said with a confident yet still somehow soft and gentle smile. The sort of smile that’s so often worn by Lia.

To be completely honest here, Lia and the ocean have never really vibed.

Is it because she comes from a family whose origins are in mining, of all things? Yes and no, for while she will always have a certain fondness for Ground types, it’s up in the skies that she thrives.

And so, it’s by air that she arrives; the golden wings of a huge Pidgeot spreading as wide as they can spread as it lands by the beach where a few struggling Wailords can clearly be seen. Poor things. Although… That’s a hell of a mission to give a new Cadet and a recruit, isn’t it?

Good thing that by now Lia is full of confidence that she can handle this sort of thing. In fact, she’s even a bit excited about it, and it’s with a smile that she can only assume is her companion for this mission.

If Lia had any fatal flaws, it may have just been the way she so clearly wore her emotions upon her sleeve. Always so very obvious, so very transparent, as if she truly were made out of glass through which anyone could easily see.

The Tirtouga kept her distracted for a moment, but it was soon enough that her thoughts returned to him; to the fact that she was leaning against him, to the way he held her close, to the setting sun, the gentle waves, and the beach. It was perfect. It was romantic. It was like a scene out of a movie.

Something shifts in the very ground beneath her feet. Soil, pebbles, pine needles, twigs, and fallen leaves… They all get sucked into an endless darkness that causes her to lose her footing.

Caught up in searching for the creeper through the fog as she had been, it’s only when she slips that Lia notices it; her gaze shifting down in a split second while an arrow remains firmly drawn up to her cheek. There is it: a Dragapult.
[break][break]
Just like that, within the fog, it all descends into chaos.
[break][break]
”Shit.”

The sound of the curse is stolen away when the wind gets knocked out of her, for she instinctively shifts all her weight to her right in a desperate attempt to dodge the attack. While she tumbles over wet soil, the Fletchling flies away, chirping in a panic as the Comfey that at first had tightened its grip on her forearm lets go as well.

The latter heads for the dragon, fearlessly wrapping around its neck as if a fashionable floral necklace… And also a painful floral necklace, for its grip tightens and tightens more and more, a few of its flowers falling to the ground while it attempts to strangle their attacker in the sort of ROUGH PLAY only a merciless Fairy type could choose. So much for being small and cute.

Unaware of all these events, Lia coughs as she attempts to get back on her feet, the taste of dirt ever bitter and distracting her enough for her bow to be lowered despite all potential threats...

Using a foot to click a minimized pokéball attached to a chainlike anklet (an adaptation of the unfashionable yet practical ways once shown to her by LANCE VOLLANS), her usual companion when wielding her bow is summoned in a flash of light. The Comfey is quick to wrap its flowers around her forearm, her grip shifting just so slightly in accordance.

Something is wrong.

A SWEET SCENT mingles with the fog, as if the Fairy type knows something is coming for them. While it would distract most pokémon, it causes Lia to grow even more tense instead, her arrow readied as she looks through the forward sight – searching.

By instinct, she can feel the gaze of something on her… Of someone maybe? Is someone watching her? Some kind of creeper? Did they cause all this to mess with her? Lia has listened to enough true crime podcasts to know how the rest of that story is supposed to go, and she doesn’t like it at all...

Fuck. Is it this damn fog that’s causing her to have all those paranoid thoughts? Why does she feel like she’s going insane?

A chill runs down her spine with the howling of the wind, and her Fletchling chirps, alert.

A snap.
[break][break]
A crunch.
[break][break]
Something falls.
[break][break]
The arrow is shot.
[break][break]
Thud. An apricorn is cleanly pierced by the projectile that sinks deep into the trunk of a tree, and with her sight obscured by the fog, Lia is only able to tell the latter part by sound alone. Target missed.

Readying a second arrow, she crouches down, hiding behind a large bush as she awaits for the stalker to once again make their presence known in the fog.

At first, it had been difficult to notice, but even in the dim light of the Mareep’s tails, it became all too obvious the moment she gave the girl a good look: she was soaked, and so was her Luxray. What the hell had happened? Had she fallen into a river? Had she been sleeping under the rain or something?

Beneath her feet, Lia could feel the wet soil, making the latter the most likely possibility.

”...Shit. Okay, give me a second, you’re going to catch a cold if you stay like that.” Or worse.

So, the wolf ignored the sheep, reaching into her tent to grab her boots and a couple of pokéballs. From them, two pokémon were released: a Comfey of colourful flowers and a large Typhlosion. ”The wood is wet after the rain, so I’ll have to get some more before starting a fire. You can stay near Quill for warmth… I’ll grab you a towel and something for you to wear while your clothes dry off.”

And as if on cue with her words, the Typhlosion stepped closer, the flames emitted by the spots on its neck being as if their own campfire. Their warmth quickly began to spread as if a wave over the camp, while the Comfey used its FLORAL HEALING to help with the child’s endless sneezing. Warmth, petals, and a delightful aroma.

”Why were you out in the rain?” Having to avoid a few Mareep in order to approach the little girl, Lia placed a towel atop of her head in order to dry her hair. ”My clothes are going to be too big for you, but you can’t stay in those wet ones... I left a few in the tent if you want to get changed.”

A smile was given then; one gentle, soft, and as warm as the Typhlosion’s flames.
