lightheartedness in the conversation never left. even when held in position, the slight smile accompanies the inability to hold eye contact.

"didn't you say you almost died last time you tried?" he probably was still recovering despite being out of the hospital for a long while now. "it's just my turn now, heh."

ironic, given that he had been there because he was hired by someone from the hospital. he never really got close to reaching the ruins of petalburg's medical facility as per the request, and had everything else go against it.

he turns to his side, planting a kiss at the back of the hand on his shoulder, before pinning it with a tilt of his head.

"what now?" he asks. "are you really going to leave me behind to march straight to that place and take revenge?"

he says it a joke.

"it honestly feels like one of those isekai shows to have all these under my trainer id," he chimes to Navy. "but it's open for rental for those in the slateport police too, so there's no need to feel bad about me using them."

that's how the past kyle had done stuff to get around work hours— training newly caught pokemon under the pretense of it being related to champion-related duties. kyle, then, makes up a fuss about them not fitting the vibes of his team so he can start over, filling in the scheduled hours with menial tasks rather than difficult ones.

they end up being transferred to a roster of pokemon rented by public security officers to have something against the monstrosities of hoenn while they build up teams of their own. despite his excuses, kyle does find uses for them, as they do now.

a remoraid comes out of a ball. bullet seed blasts a path open alongside navy's pokemon, revealing more of the fleshy substance underneath the layer of eggs.

"do you really spend most of your time hanging around here?" he questions the deputy before turning to noah faber. "there's no place like this around verdanturf, right?"

the introvert that he is, he makes himself look busy with bewilderment of ultra sea to avoid addressing Eduardo Hisakawa. it wasn't that he doesn't like his vibes, but a stranger is more difficult to force himself to act casual with.

not that he can't. he just needs some wind-up time.

a shift of tone from addressing navy and noah would be obvious if he goes straight to eddie. this is a tactical pause so it wouldn't be as obvious, giving him time to adjust to make his words seem natural as opposed to forced.

surprisingly, a telescope that has been left unused in his parent's attic didn't share the same layer of dust that other items stored up there had. he can only guess noah had used it some time ago.

stars shone brightly at the clear night sky. a list of constellations were one can find are printed on a sheet of paper, alongside a star chart to help guide amateurs like him. once he finds the right orientation, he starts to look for them.

none of them seemed evident for someone like him who doesn't partake in stargazing, but guides were helpful for times like these. one particular one stood out among the rest as he finds himself unexplainably nostalgic with the shape.

he smiles as non-existent memories invoke a sense of wistfulness.

★Nbl - a pokemon that looks like the small cloud creating a star directed by disembodied, claw-like hand.

Rain drizzled down in the middle of their fight surprisingly extinguishes the flames that surround the moor. Smoke turns into the same mist that brought the STALWART to diverge from his companion, eating the area up once more the same way it expanded to a mirage of Terrakion and Keldeo's HISTORY.[break][break]

The final clash of swords tears through the sky with a pillar of light, breaking through the illusion and shattering the forged reality of this realm. Like a distortion, each piece of the backdrop fade as they are forcibly brought back to a space connected to everyone else.[break][break]

With the trial concluded, Terrakion has reached its RESOLUTION with the help of Eduardo Hisakawa.[break][break]

The mist eventually eats everything up. kyle lopez and his SUICUNE disappears with a blink of an eye, leaving behind the pair and the unconscious Keldeo. Visuals will return to what they had been from before they had split up, minus the beckoning light that marks their location on the map.[break][break]

Coincidentally, the eventual arrival of Yuina Higashi, after her meeting with kyle lopez and Gabriel Navidson, Navy's departed brother, would disperse the cloud of haze.[break][break]

When she reaches the BEACON, the previous landscape returns to what it was. the way back is clear, but immaterial spirits of old congregate to their location. Hoping to seek asylum in the light after seeing YVELTAL'S SHARD, their presence will still prove navigation to be difficult once they start congesting the area.[break][break]

Should one inspect the unconscious KELDEO, they can gauge the colt to be content. Being able to vent its frustrations out after the fight with its mentor accounts for the answer to the reason of its disappearance.[break][break]

a wall of ice separates kyle and terrakion. tension is cut in the coldest way, diffusing any aggression should it still continue. suicune appears from his side, which stood down with a sound of a whistle from kyle.

the face of nonchalance is portrayed on his expression, breaking down with a content smile and a shake of his head.

his gaze returns to the colt on the ground. kyle crouches to its level, caressing its face and wiping the ash and soot from the surrounding fires. instead of clearing it, each stroke smudged them further.

"frankly, i don't like this conclusion," kyle confesses, "but this is the good ending."

it differs from what he considers a true ending. the border provides him with possibilities unreachable from the other side, and keldeo's self-imposed trial gave him the opportunity to execute an alternate conclusion.

there is no future for him in a world where he stays stagnant. he needed to be broken down with his weakness, and then rebuilt with his strengths. he may not know eddie personally, but what kyle saw is enough to be convinced with what comes up next.

"terrakion." his eyes stare at the bull. he opens his mouth to speak, but no words come out. the expression softens as he dips his head. "you know how close you were to failing, right?"

the previous top champion always had his peculiar way with wording. what can be heard as a taunt will interpreted by the sword that had been on his side with clarity. failure hasn't occurred, and cracks that the failing world can take advantage of before they propagate have been remedied.

eddie's support will be terrakion's fail safe, as much as terrakion will be his.

as noah takes him in, kyle turns to entei, gracing them with a bow of the head before quickly disappearing away.

he allows himself to fall limp in noah's hold, taking the time to lean his head over his as he stumbles on what had been his home when he was a child. the interior was different that what he remembered, having forgotten renovations made from when the rocket boss struck his hometown with a disaster once upon a time.

"are you going to take vengeance for me?" he teases. "hearing that from you gives me the butterflies in my stomach."

kyle makes light of the situation, keeping the relieved expression on his face as he drops to the couch. despite the pain and soreness, there had been no major injuries relatively speaking.

for someone like him who always kept to safety, it was more than the usual. people like noah usually experience worse.

"petalburg," he answers. "i thought i'd try helping you out since people always said i'm so great."

yveltal's presence tells them more than they need.

with a shrug of a shoulder, he motions to gabe that he's likely to follow yveltal's direction with a jerk of his head. to yuina, however, he provides a separate message.

"you might want to head to that direction instead," kyle tells her, pertaining to the uncleared sea of fog from where yveltal came from. "i doubt it, but there's always a chance that your friend might get stuck there."

kyle doesn't mention the implications of what he meant, but given the garden of stone they were at, it was obvious.

a burst of light shines like a beacon from afar, breaking through the obscurity of the border's mists. like a lighthouse, it beckons everyone to its location, spirits or otherwise.

"you can escort her there if you want," he tells gabe. "you'll be able to find me anyways if you need me."

he waves goodbye as he awaits for dispersal.

embers burnt a trail from the nearby forest to their lawn, leaving a singed pathway to the door. hanging on the back of entei, a worn out arm reaches for the doorbell.

unease from the dog pokemon welled up as they remained distance between them and the entei, thanks to the pressure it exuded. wagging tails show excitement, though a confused reaction was evident to the riolu and lucario. things they see in their vision contradict the different aura.

these pokemon were unknown to him, having had all of them after his story on hoenn began. even the entei's loyalty was unexplained, but he figured it shares the same sentiment with everyone else that treated him differently.

after all, there's no reason for a being like him to save him from the skirmishes of petalburg.

caked with blood from shallow cuts and mud from running around trying to hide, kyle musters a smile amid the weariness as he hears steps from within the abode. he tries to get down from entei, using him as a support, when the door opens.

as much as he wanted to hold himself off from saying fighting words, the retort can't be held off much longer.

"dude, i explicitly told you i'm not the same one." he readies the same stun gun once more. "if you want the world saved, do it yourself."

the same surge of electricity jump starts the electivire's motor drive once more. it is at this moment that kyle forgoes the original task, already drafting up a statement in his head on how to tell his client.

"you have control over regirock. i have fucking electivire. tell me who is more capable of that task?"

he pivots the direction of his electivire's route towards the rambling admin, gambling that any attacks towards him would stop if the trainer comes into contact with the collateral.

instead of a drive-by hit, kyle and his pokemon runs past. a calling card from his business falls off— the only 'merch' this kyle has of at this moment.

kyle escapes the scene, forgoing his objective to escape the situation after realizing there's nothing to be had with the interaction.

he grumbles. the love-hate relationship with games of luck starts to teeter to the negative end of it. it is only the thought that these were designed to have those loved by the universe to excel win that stops him from thinking too hard.

there's no right way to approach, he tells himself, since there will always be luckier people than him. he resigns himself to the only solution that will stop him from acting irrational: throw on purpose.

it's the only way he'll get a result that he will be certain of.

at this point, there is no reason for him to even join the guessing game if he doesn't aim to win. the conclusion of it doesn't reach him until he has given his answer.
