When Ceri had agreed to helping out with M.A.G.M.A research, she had known she would have to deal with some potentially extremely cantankerous pokémon, as is the nature of just about all shadows. The thing is that these aren’t shadow pokémon, though. They aren’t normal, sure, but aren’t Illumina Pokémon supposed to be nicer? Is this just a result of klaus anchoret being a terrible trainer?

While Ceri repeats the same testing process as before, step by step, she finds herself wondering about exactly what to list the temperament of these Eevee as. Should she just call them normal? Maybe she should put a note there for future Ceri in case she has to see these rude little beasts again…

As if on cue, Klaus asks his question just as this thought crosses her mind.

”Probably not! Looks like I’ll be able to get all the tests done today, but if we need something else from them in the future, we’ll let you know.” She gives him a wink, and the Eevee almost bites her for getting distracted just as she takes it off the scale. Little brat. ”Uhmm…. If you have any other pokémon you’d like to submit for sample collection, let us know. Hopefully more chill ones.”

With that, she laughs, but the Eevee is promptly given back to his owner. Where the hell did she leave her lint roller?

”Oooh… Second generation Illumina, huh? That’s interesting. You must have been busy with all that hatchery business.” Since her hands are more than full with the Eevee that wiggles in her arms, ceaselessly attempting to break free, she makes a mental note on such things to add them to her chart, trying to go through all the tests as quickly and painlessly as the feisty little vulpine pokémon will allow. ”No worries, we’ll get this done quick. Thanks for coming down to the lab, by the way.”

No one likes a blood test, not even pokémon, but samples must be collected, and truth be told, Ceri couldn’t care less about the feelings of a little fox. She takes a tissue sample while at it too, only then moving on to the simpler tests. At one point, when she’s weighing it, the Eevee jumps off the counter and bolts towards the door, but her Audino intercepts it. All Ceri does is sigh and get on with it. Once all samples have been collected and stored, she finally turns her attention back to Klaus

Ceri decidedly isn’t a big fan of overly fluffy pokémon. They make her nose itch in a way that would probably have her sneezing if it weren’t for the HEAL PULSE and the mist around them, and when taking the offered Eevee in her arms, she’s overly careful not to get bit because who knows what kind of nasty stuff is in its saliva. Oh, and speaking of that…

Buccal samples are first on the list, since she’d rather spend as much time away from those sharp little teeth as possible. Getting it to collaborate is a damn struggle, but to be honest, she’s dealt with worse. She takes her samples for Pokérus-Y testing just in case, even if the Eevee are clearly Illumina, and from there on, since Klaus gave her the ‘go ahead’, she moves onto the more invasive procedures. Blood, tissue, all of that. She’s surprisingly methodical about it all, despite how energetic and cheerful she acts.

Through it all, she chats Klaus’ ears off:

”Oh! Vaporeon is nice… Less fluffy, you know? Do they have all the typical Illumina Pokémon moves? Illuminate, Spotlight, all of that? Anything else you’d want to note? The samples will tell us most of it anyway, but any and all information is helpful at this point.”

”Mhm… Mhmm.” She takes notes, making sure to list it all down in order for it to be included in the Eevee’s chart. No information is seen as too insignificant to be left out, since truly, they don’t know when things like those might be of use. ”Glitzy Glow… Interesting. Do you know what shadow moves it’s capable of using?”

Once she’s satisfied with the information provided by Bee, she moves on to the actual testing, making sure to move fast in case the pokémon begins to resist the effects of her Spritzee’s calming mist. It affects even her, making her much less talkative than what she’d usually be.

”Are you okay with all types of samples, by the way? Blood, tissue, all of that?”
[break][break]
The Eevee is weighed and measured. She takes a cotton swab, and carefully opening its mouth, she rubs it against its inner cheek to release buccal cells. After that she moves onto getting a sample for a quick Pokérus-Y test, and then energy signatures, making sure to go through the non-invasive sample collection processes first… In case Bee is overly sensitive about his pokémon. Speaking of who, she barely pays any mind to his coughing.

"Uhmm... Probably? By the right entity, I guess. Like Necrozma or Shadow Lugia. Maybe with Ultra Beast toxins too or whatever not... That'd be a neat experiment. Hmm..."

Eevee. Had a particularly high amount of Eevee been bred while the hatchery had been open? Ceri had barely participated in that, busy as she is, but apparently, that really had been the case.

These Eevee are different, though. Colourful specks of light mark them as ILLUMINA pokémon, and she’s so enthralled by the sight of them that she barely notices klaus anchoret or his many scratches. Sorry, not sorry.

”Ah… Not the most tame, are they? That’s pretty interesting.” She chuckles, but she does reach for one of her pink pokéball… and for another once she does notice Klaus’ scratches. From one appears an Audino that waves up at the man, and from the other, a Spritzee that floats by the Audino’s side. ”Here, let us help you with that! Uhm…Let’s say… 40/60 ratio AROMATHERAPY to SWEET SCENT. And give me a HEAL PULSE while at it.”

The scent that soon fills the air is intoxicating, but it should help calm the pokémon down, and the HEAL PULSE would do wonders for Klaus’ injuries.

”What can you tell me about them? Oh, and are you fine with all kinds of samples, by the way? Blood and all?”

It’s important to ask for consent, after all. Some people are just so weirdly protective of their pokémon.

An Eevee. A pokémon with so many possible evolutions is fascinating, and for centuries, they have captured the attention and interest of scientists from all over the world. Ceri herself shares in this fascination, of course, but to her, Eevee also aren’t the most interesting pokémon in the world. An Eevee that’s the offspring of a pure Shadow, though? Now we’re talking.

”Oooooh! Nice, nice… Do you know which of his shadows is the parent? I could ask Underboss Merlino later or compare samples, but you know… saves me some time.” Ceri’s a busy woman, after all, but it’s not like she won’t be putting the samples in Rocket’s database anyway.

”Let’s get started, then!” Instead of grabbing a swab, she reaches for one of her pink pokéballs, from it summoning a small Spritzee. ”Give me a 30/70 combo of AROMATHERAPY and SWEET SCENT… You might feel a little loopy.”

The warning is for Barnaby and it comes just as a rose mist begins to swirl in the air, filling it with an intoxicating scent. It’s meant to calm the Eevee down enough for samples to be taken, since it’s easier and faster than attempting to sedate it.

"Always better to be safe with Shadow pokémon than sorry, you know? Especially after what happened with Necrozma and all of that."

Dark eyes exam BARNABY FINCH. Up and down and then up again. Is she checking him out or carefully studying him? Since she says nothing about it, the answer could be either. All she does is smile and reach for the tablet that has been so graciously provided by Team Rocket for her use in the lab.

”Yup! What do you have for me? Legendary? Pokérus-Y? Illumina? Offspring of Shadow Pokémon? Purified offspring? Some actual Shadows?” She holds his gaze, ready to check those boxes and set up the appropriate files. Ah, but if he brings out all of them at once it might be a problem, she knows that much, so she decides to also specify:

”Priority usually is based on rarity, if that helps! Underboss Cillian Quinn is particularly interested in us getting samples from Shadow Pokémon, since you know… Like… It’s his whole thing, right?” She winks when saying that, allowing herself a light laugh.

Isn’t Serena Malcolm one of the Rocket beasts? That’s pretty intimidating! Ceri vaguely remembers having met her once in the woods, but a lot of time has passed since then, and in that time, a lot could have changed. Hopefully she’s still nice! And, hopefully her shadow pokémon are less aggressive than some of the ones Ceri has met the past few weeks.

After checking the time on her phone, she begins clearing her working area to make sure it is spotless, setting up all the sample-collection tools while at it. It wouldn’t do good to waste a Rocket beast’s time, after all! She could tell one of Ceri’s bosses!

Here’s to hoping this goes well and with no incident! She does have cute Bulbasaur-themed band aids in her lab coat’s pocket just in case, though – for the pokémon bites and all!

Ceri has a list, she looks at it, she checks it twice, and in it, Elisabeth Fiorelli is pretty far down. It’s that whole thing about “admins being super ultra busy most of the time” or whatever. But, she’s here now! They always see each other at the lab! So, like, why not kill two birds with one stone and all of that?

”So, like, I was watching this alien movie the other night, super mid stuff, six out of ten–…” It’s lunch time for our hardworking, dedicated, lab-assigned Rocket grunts (although Ceri is technically a researcher now) and Ceri is enjoying some mid tier store-bought sushi while chatting with priam conrad. She pauses mid-conversation to have a piece of her maki roll, and then she keeps going as if nothing. ”It really got me thinking… What if Deoxys is actually using Killian Decker as a host for its little baby Deoxys… Deoxyses? Deoxi? Are they like… gonna burst out of him? Wild.”

It’s then that she gets a text, and she looks at the phone that had been resting on the counter next to her now almost-empty sushi container.

”Oh! By the way, have you given samples from your pokémon for M.A.G.M.A research?”

Priam does have some pretty cool pokémon, doesn’t he? She had promised she would help with the sample-collection, and she intends to keep that promise. Plus, it seems interesting! Who knows what kind of cool things they'll discover!

Another hot summer day hiding away from the sun in the confines of Rocket’s submarine and labs, another few samples to collect, this time from a guy called Bee. Ceri has never heard of him, but she hopes he’ll have some interesting pokémon for her. Or, well, for M.A.G.M.A rather.

Perfectly manicured nails tap on the lab’s counter while she waits, and when the door finally opens, it’s with a bright smile that she greets him:

”Oh hey, you must be Bee!”

Ha. Be Bee. That one got a chuckle out of her.

”I’m Ceri, nice to meet ya!” He would perhaps notice the heavy northern Galarian accent that coats her every word, or the fact that her lab coat’s sleeves are rolled up and her attire leaves probably a little too much skin exposed for lab work.
