She has always loved talking, often rambling on and on without even realising she’s doing so. But, when Nomi starts telling her about her parents, Ceri remains as quiet as can be, and through it all, she listens.

Their lives have been completely different, and that much is clear to her now. Her own parents may be gone, not a part of her life anymore, but she had known them both. There are countless great memories of her mother, even if now marked by grief and sorrow, and of her father there are countless too, even if most aren’t great at all. Ceri can’t even imagine what it must be like to not know one’s parents, to remember so little about them, and for it to be the life of someone who matters as much to her as Nomi… Well, it makes her feel rather sad for her friend. It makes her want to help her.

”Oh Nomi…That’s awful, I’m so sorry. Maybe we can figure out something about this book’s publication, yeah?” Ceri smiles back at her friend, in a bright and reassuring way, but one too many thoughts occupy her mind, overanalyzing every detail of what Nomi had just said.

”Wait… They were in Kanto?” There’s only one way to find information about Kanto now that it’s in Team Rocket’s control, and that is having access to the syndicate’s files. A top secret project for an important organisation in Kanto sounds like exactly the sort of thing Team Rocket would know about. Hell, the thought even crosses her mind that Nomi’s parents could have secretly been working for the syndicate before the region was occupied, but what were the odds of that?

Ceri wants to tell Nomi, but this is a public place, and even in whispers, speaking of her Rocket affiliation feels like it goes against everything she has known since first joining. Can she trust Nomi?

The answer is obvious, and with it being so, she leans in closer, looking at her friend in the eyes when speaking a question in a barely audible tone:

Ceri steps closer for the sake of having a look at the book Nomi is holding, catching a couple of loose paragraphs here and there. Due to her recent very secret research with the subject she promised not to speak of, she had been learning quite a lot about Ditto as of late, their transformation abilities being the closest thing she has been able to find to those of the subject. The book is of interest to her even beyond this paper they’re supposed to write, and in it of itself, that motivates her a bunch.

”Galarian Stunfisk are nasty. Back when I was a kid, we always had to watch the mud ‘cause one might be there hiding. Once heard a kid got caught by one and chomped to bits, but it was probably one of those horror stories they tell kids to make them be more careful, no?”

She chuckles, fond childhood memories coming to mind. Although, admittedly, Circhester is so cold even in summer that things like those were mostly an issue for her when venturing out of the city. Ceri’s so distracted by these thoughts that she doesn’t notice the name of the research paper’s author at first glance, and because of this, Nomi’s question seems to come entirely out of left field.

”...Your parents?” No, she hasn’t. Ceri herself may be the one to blame for that, sine tries to avoid speaking about topics like those. Talk of her mum isn’t so bad, but her dad? And just who her living relatives are? She’d rather not get into all that.

Her head tilts just so slightly, gaze fixed on Nomi while offering a reassuring smile.

This time, Ceri quirks a brow, a playfully wicked smirk tugging at her lips when looking at Bee. Is she teasing him? Yes. Should she be teasing him? Probably not, but when has that ever stopped her? Maybe it’s just the fact that she likes Bee well enough.

Yet as much as Ceri may enjoy teasing others, it’s so very easy that her work steals her attention away. She watches the Meowth while finishing with collecting the blood samples – not in case it may have another outburst, but because she’s curious about its appearance and how its strange genetics are linked to its behaviour.

Once she’s done and the samples are safely stored away, she gives Bee a bright smile, putting her hands in the pockets of her lab coat.
[break][break]
”Nope! Not for now, at least, but if you have any questions about anything, let me know! Oh, and if you have any other pokémon for me to collect samples from. Thanks for supporting the MAGMA Division, your contribution is appreciated, for the glory of Team Rocket, and yada yada yada.”

That last part gets a light laugh out of her, for Ceri has never been one to care much for all those formalities. However, they’re apparently needed all the same. Shame.

Logically, it makes sense. Put most cats in an unfamiliar place and that’s how they’ll react, especially if they’re not confident, but that doesn’t mean she had to want to deal with all of that mess. Totally not her thing, and apparently also not Barnaby’s, judging by how he handles it.

Still, she waits and lets him deal with all of it.

”Well, look at you! Cat whisperer. Bet underboss del Mar would be proud.” She teases, giving him a wink, and admittedly, she mostly only does so because of the latter’s obvious fondness for Meowth… and because it’s much better and cleaner than the other joke that immediately crosses her mind. Shame Bee isn’t her type.

Her attention goes to collecting the samples as soon as she’s able to do so, but while she gets through every step with methodical care, there’s a small pause when the executive mentions Frenzy Plant.

”...It’s an offspring of one of the pokémon that came from the Tree of Life? Interesting.”
[break][break]
That’s all she says on that, but she’s all too familiar with the eggs that had been given to the participants of the expedition into the tree, and the strange move they had all hatched knowing.

Well, actually, it’s her allergies and the fact that they’re not nearly as cool as her poison types, but still, their attitude plays a part. Especially when she needs a cat to cooperate but it just doesn’t. Needless to say, the brunette is not particularly sympathetic, but there would be no way of telling as much with the way she smiles.

”Awww. Poor little guy… Give me a sec!”
[break][break]
She makes sure to finish with her notes before reaching for a pokéball, from which she summons the same Spritzee Bee had met before. Before giving any instructions, Ceri walks around the table, kneeling on the cold floors of the submarine’s lab and looking at the cat.

”Okey dokey… Give me some AROMATHERAPY. It should help calm him down enough to handle.”

At least that’s her hope.

Eyes of a warm russet shade widen in surprise at the sight of the unusual Meowth, only to then immediately narrow as if they were inspecting every single visible aspect of the feline. They are. Bee becomes inconsequential. Or, well, actually… He becomes one of the methods to confirm what Ceri is already suspecting.

”The hatchery.” She echoes the executive’s words as if she were speaking of a distant place – a fantasy land where all things can come true. And, it’s almost forcibly that she looks away from the cat, turning her attention to the tablet on the counter, where a chart awaits to be filled out. Written notes have always been her preference.

”So… A couple of months old, yeah? Illumina genes? Anything else I should know… Special moves, all of that? You know how this goes by now.”
[break][break]
With that last comment, Bee gets a grin out of the scientist – bright and slightly wicked, as if she herself were a Cheshire cat or something of the like.

She’s running on three hours of sleep, a cold shower, and a frappe from Sawsbucks with so many shots of espresso that she had almost forgotten the fact that it was originally supposed to be caramel flavoured. In true Ceri fashion, she’s ready for whatever life may throw at her, even if in this case it’s something as dull as working on a research paper for school. Ceri would much rather be at the lab or researching a topic of her choice, but alas, ya do what ya gotta do.

If anything, Nomi’s presence comes as a comfort. When she finally shows up, that is.
[break][break]
”Oh goodie! I was beginning to wonder if you had stood me up.” She teases her friend, giving her a wink to signal as much before her expression is overtaken by the brightest of smiles. Like the buzzing of a bee or a tireless hummingbird, Ceri’s words are filled with energy even when whispering, and it’s all said in the sweetest northern Galarian soprano. ”Sucks about the bus, though. I swear they’re always late when you least want them to be. But, hey, at least you got some cardio in, no?”

Much to the dismay of Nomi’s Sylveon.

It’s a good thing that Ceri’s own Salandit, Domino, is too busy napping in the sunlight that breaks through one of the library’s high windows, or he would probably be bothering the poor fairy type right about now. Sprawled on one corner of the table as he is, the lizard’s back and white scales look almost iridescent in the light, and Ceri gives him a couple of loving scritches before turning her attention to the shelves Nomi points towards.

”Yup, looks like it… Ugh, I wish they would digitise all these already. It sure would make searching waaaay easier.” She quietly whines, yet it’s all done while reading through the spines of tomes, nails painted of a bright yellow sometimes touching one or another before she gently grabs those which look most interesting and looks through them. Despite her complaints, it’s all done with care and diligence. ”Anything catch your eye yet, Nomi?”

A bubbly demeanour, a seemingly endless amount of energy, a bright smile, and an unquestionably Galarian accent that drips off every word that is spoken in a sweet soprano. Her appearance may never be exactly the same, for her choices in attire vary with the winds, but undoubtedly, these are the things that will always be true about Ceri Glynn.

Well, those and perhaps the fact that beneath an open lab coat, her attore of choice is arguably far too revealing for this kind of professional setting. But, hey, who’s keeping track of that, right? At least she gets the job done!

”Elisa it is.” The decision is made with ease, since for the most part, Ceri is a young woman of spontaneity. When it comes to most things, at least. ”I always feel weird calling people by their last names. Like… It makes me feel like I’m talking to my professors, you know? Too fucking formal. Ha.”

Should she be swearing in front of a higher up? Probably not, but when the Cyndaquil is released, the thought leaves her mind as quickly as it had appeared.
[break][break]
”Aw! Are you a cutie?” Yes, a cutie, but it makes her sneeze. Part of the many reasons why Ceri prefers her reptiles. Still, she extends a hand towards the Cyndaquil for it to sniff, offering it a treat.
[break][break]
”I’ll run a quick Pokérus test along with my samples. Did you get him from the hatchery or somewhere else?” She gets to work immediately, preparing all the implements she needs. It starts off with the quick test to ensure that the Cyndaquil is indeed infected with Pokérus-Y, and then she moves on to grabbing a cotton swab. ”Are you good with more invasive stuff? Blood and what not?”

She always makes a point to ask, but once the Cyndaquil seems comfortable enough, Ceri feels no apprehension in opening its mouth to collect a buccal smear from its cheek. At least she’s wearing gloves.

Elisabeth’s question is answered in the middle of all that:

”Seems mutualistic for the most part, honestly. It benefits the host, but we’re not sure exactly to what extent yet. There have always been records of pokérus, obviously, but it was rare until now, and this strain is one we haven’t seen before… Underboss del Mar claims it may come from the dimension in the Tree of Life, which, like, is cool, but also kinda super creepy, no? Leaves me with a whole bunch of questions!”

”Oh! I’m glad you asked! Yes, there is.” It’s almost as if she had been expecting those questions, and as if she’s pleased to hear them. She pauses in the middle of setting up one of the devices for the sake of giving Adrian a bright smile, and then she continues with her work. The device is connected to the tablet.

”You said it yourself, Gyarados are super temperamental, ya? So I was thinking…Just training a pokémon like that and getting it to answer to your commands takes a lot of effort, which translates to a strong bond. Much more if your Gyarados can mega evolve! That got me looking through Rocket files and what not, and I noticed that a lot of the mission reports mention you and your Gyarados. Like… uhmm… the expedition into the Tree of Life last November!”

She talks a lot and she talks fast, seemingly being incapable of running out of air. While she explains, all machines and cameras are quickly yet carefully set up, and by the time Adrian brings out a pokéball, Ceri is standing there ready to witness it – tablet in hand.

Furor, Adrian’s Gyarados, makes for an impressive sight, and looking up at the massive pokémon, Ceri finds herself grinning.

”Cool. Let’s see… How about his age? Does he know any unusual moves? Anything about him you’d like to point out?” Warm eyes squint, watching the pokémon carefully. ”...What’s up with his fangs?”

She had come to Cillian Quinn’s laboratory to deliver the latest samples collected from shadow gene pokémon, but in true Ceri fashion, she had found herself distracted by looking through all that data once all the samples had been safely stored. Technically, she’s not even supposed to be here today, as made evident by the fact that her lab coat is still on its hanger and that her outfit isn’t exactly all that “work appropriate”. Does she care for any of that, though? Of course not.

The simple truth is that Rowan is a man of great timing, and that when he steps into the lab, she immediately smiles when seeing him.

”Oh, hey! You’re Rowan Wrynn, right?” Rocket Beast, in charge of the Sea Mauville project, but most importantly of all, oceanographer. She’s been wanting to meet him.

”I’ve heard a lot about you! What can I do for you?”

Her every word drips off a northern Galarian accent that has not faded despite her years in Hoenn, and the smile she gives him is as radiant as it is honest.

Bonds.

The subject had first become of interest to Ceri when now-underboss Killian Decker had introduced her to Deoxys and allowed her to study it. What drives a pokémon to bond with a person? What do they gain? Would Killian be able to access more of Deoxys’ abilities if he were to improve his relationship with it? Her mind is filled with questions, but during her research, she has also learned a few interesting things…

MEGA EVOLUTION, for example, is a phenomenon that supposedly depends on the bond between pokémon and trainer. It’s a good start. And, it’s with Mega Evolution in mind that she requested the assistance of one of Rocket’s Beasts.

Adrian Malcolm.

Is he somehow related to Serena Malcolm? Honestly, Ceri’s first impression of him when she steps into one of the labs equipped to handle more dangerous testing is that he’s kind of really intimidating.

She doesn’t say it, obviously.

All she does is put the tablet she had brought with her under her arm, giving him a little wave with perfectly manicured fingers. Today her nail polish is red.

”Hey, hey! You must be Adrian! I’m Ceri, it’s nice to meet you! Really excited to have you here! This shouldn’t take long, if you’re busy and all… I’m just gonna set up the cameras and energy reading equipment and we can get started, yeah? ”

There are two things Adrian would probably notice beyond her appearance: she talks really fast, and she has a heavy northern Galarian accent.

She does get started with the set up right away, though. No time to waste.
