arceus, it feels like only yesterday she was taunting some other fuck with Rhys Collins . oh wait, that was yesterday. gods, those tacos were good. she should have ordered more. avery would've liked 'em. 

that's what she's thinking about when avery goes over the plan, but then she zones back in at the tail end and nods and shows off her guns. 

"anti-male's my jam," she says, meaning it. apparently she has superpowers that make men talk to themselves. tremble before her, howard slayte and Shred! "we got this, sis."

she clasps her on the shoulder and walks into the room, meeting the grizzled face and square jaw of a dude that rubs her the wrong way. he narrows his eyes and parker looks him up and down, and he scoffs, and parker says, "okay, bet," and slugs him.

he seems so...tired. and a pang of worry, like one might have for a dear old friend, knots in her stomach, but then her head hurts and she metaphorically slaps away the memories. imstead, she replaces it with annoyance - the hell could he be so fuckin' stressed about? dino bones?

okay, sure, maybe the fact that they could all become bones in the ground for some crazy alien species to discover one day. but still.

he puts the pen down, at least, and when he asks about nomi, parker finally softens. she runs a hand through her hair and sighs.

"swear she wouldn't sleep if i didn't make 'er. and we gotta sleep with her creepy hot dog eyes open on us in case that holo bitch tries to assassinate 'er again. but she's fuckin' managing. somehow. she's tryna do a whole lot of good, just, from the wrong side."

she rubs her face. "but hey, gotta play the cards you're dealt an' all that, yeah? and i'm sorry, for the deep sea."

their doordash order arrives. parker, of course, went balls to the wall and ordered three and a half entrees for herself (a kid's mini taco platter is the 'half'). she dumps the extra bags of chips they threw in, assuming no doubt that the order was a meal for five people, and rifles through to find rhys' food.

the league official sits across from them, sweating, looking too terrified to be hungry, but parker bets after nearly sixteen hours of being cuffed to the table, his tummy must be having some sort of reaction to the ridiculously delicious-smelling alolan food wafting over the table.

parker pours melted queso over one of her tacos and shoves the entire thing in her mouth, shakes out her hand, crosses around the table, and grins down with chipmunk cheeks before punching him right in his already-swollen face.

"talk. 'n mym good copf might share shome food."

"i'm graceful as a gogoat," she promises. she went on a mountain hike kinda like this once with another rocket grunt, Marza Volchitsa , and as far as she remembers, their little mission went swimmingly. they slaughtered a few bouncing pigs and then went their separate ways. 

amulius had enjoyed his time that day. 

"'kay, we avoid lilycove. 'mul probably don't wanna go near all that water anyway. wanna keep it spicy by the mountain."

both of them don't seem the best strategists, though, because their casual trek down the mountainside keeps them in plain site. amulius points and chirps and parker stutters to a stop, blinking, reaching out to grab alba by his shirt to yank him down. 

"oop, watch out." a blast of fire sails past them, exploding against the ground. parker looks backward and then bounces on the balls of her feet. "let's go fuck 'em up. we can't die, right? it's all vr shit. that's what nomes said. let's FUCKING GO!"

and she takes off running, amulius at her side.

parker shuts the door behind them. it clicks and so do maisey's nails as she trots away from the door on the other side. parker keeps her hands on the vintage knobs, tucked against her back, and watches nomi dig through some of the boxes and a few bags of toiletries. the lights are warm, honey-like, and the tile is so clean. 

parker slips out of her shoes and her socks. well, one of them. the other gets stuck on because nomi glides over to the tub and leans right over, leaving parker staring. 

"tease," she mutters under her breath, shakes her head, and thumbs out of her sock and then her shirt, leaving both both by door. cool tile underfoot, steam curling up from the tub, a sudden awareness of the beating of her own heart.

her hands go to nomi's backside, knuckles gliding under the pleats, squeezing skin as she settles her hips against her, leans over her, to the side, mercurial eyes hungry and playful. "yeah?" she says, as though she's not allowing her hands to wander to nomi's front.

she's only trying to help, parker tells herself, but still, it's hard not to choke on her fries when nomi swerves back from the safe zone and into the fire pit. lots of low level grunts don't agree with kanto's methods, but hoenn's a baby fuckin' kanto and the work they're doing - she cuts the thought off, not wanting to start a fight over sloppy burgers and fries. 

still, she gives nomi a warning glance and then flicks a chicken nugget at her sister. maisey drools, waiting to see if it'll tumble to their feet. 

"allll the aphrodisiac bits. if i can get a girl like nomes, means there's hope for us joneses after all."

waiting for a reciprocated high five is one of the worst things to happen to a human being. because you don't want to put your hand down and accept rejection - that's fucking embarrassing. it's one thing if, y'know, maybe the other person didn't realize you were going for a high-five. 

still awkward, but salvageable.

her already-forced smile looks damn near porcelain, something off a creepy doll podcast, and what's worse is the pickle is slowly drifting into her peripheral vision. taunting her. haunting her. 

and admin fox's brain consequently breaks.

what the hell is it about the men in rocket who talk to themselves in incomplete sentences whilst leaving poor parker to stand there none the wiser to the true nature of their not-one-but-two-sided conversation? is she really that bad a conversationalist? is she Too Gay? do her lesbian vibes interrupt the wavelengths of the Male Mind?

whatever it is, he finally snaps out of it and leaves her hand stinging. the satisfaction of a complete high-five ritual is a high that escapes no one, so her smile breaks into something easier, but then, right with fox still looking at her, the unown flicks the floating pickle right at parker's forehead. 

it hits with a wet splat and peels off into her waiting palm. 

she blinks and says, "anyway, good talk, houston, seeya 'round, byeeee!!!!!" and consequently lopes away and off to find some proper food.

it's not like the cool mechanized version of her from the mechanical kingdom, but it kinda resembles her. well, her her. herself her. and not her. okay, i'm getting a fuckin' headache. 

"why the fuck do they all get a coolass gauntlet and all i got's my dumb fist?" she says as she takes a step and slugs her own double right in the face. the jaw pops off and like a zombie in some b-rated horror flick, its teeth clack comedically. 

her knuckles split from the impact, but it works. the double's hold is loosened and with another kick, it's shoved back into the water. their boat creaks, complaining about the splitting of its sides. parker hmms. 

"arceus fuck, this place sucks. how you holdin' up? your charmander's losin 'er mind."

oh, yeah, she's got a friendly face for sure. no wonder nomi talked so nicely about her. and, uh, snacks? brownie points to aurelie - or vol-au-vents points. parker digs in immediately, not needing to be asked twice. 

"oh, fuck," she groans around flaky crust. "this is delicious." chipmunk cheeks swell as she pops three in her mouth at once, too absorbed in the flavors in her mouth to notice aurelie looking her up and down. 

but she at least has the decency to pay attention while aurelie plays the hanky-panky around what's really going on. parker appreciates it, but she chuckles as she licks her fingers. 

"yeah, war's comin' 'n rocket needs us to get our shit in order. i'm pickin' up what you're puttin' down."

hmmm. it's a good plan, for sure. on paper. rarely do things go as planned. and that's, parker assumes, where she comes in. aurelie's the brain, parker's the brawns. if she's gotta knock a few heads, she can. 

she cracks her knuckles. 

"yeah, yeah. i got a greninja with sticky fingers who can nick 'em. shit hits the fan, i gotchu, girl. you got a doggy bag?" she points to the platter.

it had taken about five times of Naomi Sato patiently explaining what the hell this whole thing is and she still doesn't really understand it, but it's not like she's ever understood the rks machine to begin with. except that it's the thing that made the unown go all bananas and juice up nomi. 

and also how one of the drk triad consequently found her blue-haired belle (pink at the time, though, she remembers) and tried to 'eradicate her from this timeline' or something.

she sees alba and she grins, saying, "no hard feelings, yeah?" with a laugh. and then when asked if she's good to go, she checks her belt. only amulius' ball sits, nice and shiny. her skin is hot. she jogs in place, feels her muscles squeeze, thinks, damn, this ain't that vr shit, and then nods. 

"'kay, let's go. guess we can start at the base of the mountain? ask around for lil' miss bitch 'n see what else we oughta do?"

remus does not like this one itty bitty bit. that much is obvious by the way his appendages are floating behind his head and twitching like no tomorrow. parker tries not to feel unsettled, but it's difficult, because the last time she'd been here it had been crazy town.

maybe they just need to cross the river and she'll find what she's looking for.

a metal hand grasps the side of the boat and she jumps. remus lifts his paws, but parker beats him to the kick. one booted foot hits fingers, but they don't budge. the rest of it - her - hauls itself into the boat. 

another set of hands, one oversized, wearing a bigass gauntlet, tips the boat in its direction. parker grips the sides and prays they don't capsize.

"yo, fuckers, we only paid for two seats. no fuckin' joyrides. get off." she snarls and kicks again.
