"A job," Klaus repeats, his brow momentarily furrowing before he recalls the lifeguards of the beach often placed out ads calling for help with wrangling the enthusiastic Wingulls. Flashing a half-smile he jabs his thumb back towards the lighthouse in the distance as he explains, "I just show up to help sometimes. I'm one of the lighthouse keepers."

He then looks to his Lapras, his head tipping towards the expanse of beach before them to direct, "Alright, go on then. You know what to do." A sharp trill answers in response, and Anwhistle nods in affirmation before gliding slowly through the shallows, pausing routinely to take pot-shots at the Wingulls above.

Shoving his hands in his pockets as he begins to follow after his Lapras, he asks Xiura conversationally, "You local?"

Klaus's expression falters minutely as he observes Beau's distant expression, his brow furrowing as some of the hostility bleeds out of him. Beginning to suspect the man wasn't all there, Klaus's own mind grinds to an abrupt halt as he finds Beau's hands roughly searching his pockets.

"What," he chokes out, his question clipped at the edges before he goes wholly silent. Face now scarlet, eyes impossibly wide, Klaus stares up at Beau as he's man-handled about; turning out his pockets reveals a handful of pokeballs and perpetual grease-stain discouloring one corner of a pocket's fabric. Barely daring to breath, something that sounds suspiciously like "I love you," escapes from Klaus's constricted throat, though the jumble of words and their breathless quality makes it difficult to tell for certain.

Seeming to regain at least a modicum of composure, Klaus roughly shoves Beau back from himself with little warning, the smaller man taking several steps back for good measure as he heaves in air into his lungs.

"What the fuck is wrong with you!?"

Klaus is distantly aware of a pokemon scurrying back behind him somewhere, though chooses to ignore it in favour of trying to subtly adjust the front of his pants.

Klaus's gaze darts up for a fleeting moment as Gavin assures that he is not in trouble, the young man's expression tight and somewhat dubious. His brow furrows as Gavin continues, an aborted noise made in the back of his throat as to his expertise; Klaus gives a quick, single nod in confirmation before he chokes out a quiet, "Mechanical and electrical engineering."

Shifting his weight foot to foot, Klaus gives a silent shake of his head at the question. After a moment's pause he seems to realize Gavin likely isn't a mind reader, nor likely paying him that close of attention, and manages a rough, "No, sir."

He presses his eyes closed as he tries to calm himself. You're not in trouble, he repeats internally over and over, as the world's sorriest mantra. "What," Klaus's voice cracks and he stops, clearing his throat roughly. He tries again, "What needs to be done?"

Brow furrowed minutely at Mars's answer, Klaus nonetheless keeps his thoughts to himself as to the man's apparent walk. Somewhere, in the back of his mind, tickled the knowledge there was something that better explained the Admin's presence, but damned if he was making connections this early in the morning. He's nonetheless drawn to the present at the question, his gaze casting sidelong to to Dhelmise who hovers nearby, a pokemon egg cradled easily in its ghostly tendrils.

"Job," Klaus answers, his voice rough before he clears it. With an absent motion towards the forest obscuring the path beyond he clarifies, "Delivering it to a house at the other end of the route."

Before Mars can question why however, Klaus pipes up as he begins to walk again, "Helping my dad buy new nets for the boat." In his youth, summers and vacations were spent working on his father's fishing boat, the pair a common enough sight in the Lilycove waters once upon a time. Now, Klaus kept well-away from his father's business lest he bring undue trouble to the man with his own questionable activities.

An awkward laugh spills from Klaus's lips as Xiura speaks. Not answering immediately, his head tilts with curiosity as Xiura retrieves a bundle from her satchel, a soft "Ah," sounding from him before he's interrupted by a swooping Wingull. Thankfully, her own pokemon, an Incineroar, takes care of the bold bird with great efficiency.

A blush rising unbidden to his cheeks, Klaus hesitates for a moment before he extends his hand hesitantly as he answers, "Klaus." He tips his head in the direction of the nearby Lapras, adding, "And this is Anwhistle. It's nice to meet you."

That spoken, he glances about a moment before his gaze settles onto one of the nearby unused beach umbrellas stuck in the sand. Motioning towards a nearby umbrella, Klaus suggests, "You can probably get some peace and quiet to eat your lunch under that?" Looking upwards, the beady eyes of the Wingulls observing the pair with utmost calculation, Klaus offers, "Anwhistle can help keep them away from you if you'd like."

As if to emphasis the point, a bolt of ice flies through the air, disturbing the gathering birds; a pleased hum sounds from the Lapras for his efforts.

His embarrassment coursing up and down his spine, jittery sparks like a live wire, the deafening silence causes Klaus to look everywhere but up. Head swimming, eyes reddening as he swallows his pounding heartbeat, Klaus clenches and unclenches his hands repeatedly in his hoodie's pocket in an effort to distract himself from his growing panic.

A voice from behind Klaus drags him sharply back to the present.

Jumping to the side, eyes wide, Klaus stares as Gavin pushes past to scold the imposter behind the desk. The young man's brows immediately draw together as the scene which plays out - that who was assumed to be Gavin is instead revealed to be a Ditto. Klaus's expression instantly falls into dismay as he realises his error.

Why was he here?

Features wholly ashen, Klaus gives a little nod as it's suggested he sits, though he does not make an effort to do so. "I - I'm sorry," he babbles. "I should have - I didn't realise -" Cutting himself off short Klaus pulls a hand from the depths of his hoodie to rub at his neck and then face, his eyes squeezing shut as he weathers another bout of nausea.

Focused on his task of plucking up bejewelled scales from the cavern's floor, Klaus's head jerks in Barnaby's direction as he feels a tugging at his waist. His gaze travelling downwards to the bag, brow momentarily furrowed in confusion, Klaus seems to quickly realize what has happened.

Mirth evident in his gaze, his hands move to question <<Forget something?>> His attention diverting to the ground, Klaus looks up with unmasked curiosity at Evangeline's flashing. From the gloomy shadows emerge a battery of Barraskewda, the sleek fish circling with predatory intent.

Catching notice of their appearance, the Dhelmise and Skrelp abandon their herding of the Luvdisc, Hansel's ghostly tendrils spreading wide while Gretel looks pointedly at Klaus. <<H. Rapid Spin, you Water Pulse,>> his hands direct fluidly, the message seemingly relayed from one pokemon to the other; Dhelmise cuts through the water into the nearest Barraskewda, the ghost's body soon out of the way as the Skrelp's Water Pulse follows to send it off kilter.

As Klaus looks around the cave, his hand reaches out to tug at Barnaby's arm. <<This is dangerous. We should leave,>> he signs rapidly, his magenta-pink gaze searching his superior's face for confirmation.

"Shit - fuck," Klaus barks out in shock, the young man's hand immediately grabbing at his heart at the sudden appearance of a voice, only-just noticing Mars just a short distance away. Well, he hadn't been awake earlier but he certainly was now.

Grimacing for a moment at Mars's unperturbed expression, Klaus glances over to his Dhelmise yet cradling the egg in swathes of ghostly kelp, a sigh then exhaled audibly as he notes its undamaged nature. Desperately wishing he possessed the foresight to buy coffee before this venture, Klaus then focuses his miserable attention on Mars, his eyebrow quirking at the sight of the Natu.

"Hello..." His voice slows, brow furrowing minutely as he debates what, exactly, to call the Rocket Admin before him. Bastard seemed most appropriate, if slightly ill advised for keeping his operation going. "Sir," he settles on with obvious displeasure.

Lifting his hand to rub haphazardly at one eye, Klaus's voice croaks as he questions, "What are you doing out here?"

Slowing down as he catches sight of the falling Wingull, Klaus subtly winces at the sound its body makes impacting the sand. Brow furrowed with minute worry that some hapless beach-goer has taken an unconscious pokemon to the head, he looks relieved when the crowd parts enough to reveal Xiura simply standing there with a curious look upon her face.

Blinking once, he lifts his hand and waves hesitantly as he offers an embarrassed, "Uh. Yeah - I guess so. They're a menace when left too long." Glancing from Xiura to the Wingull, he hazards carefully, "That didn't hit you, right?"

Meanwhile, Anwhistle continues to snipe contentedly at the squawking flocks above, thinning them though not wholly.

"I train ghosts," Klaus confirms, his eyebrow slowly arching as Beau levels a suspicious look at him. Chewing at his lower lip beneath the scrutiny, he's mercifully spared for a time at the appearance of an Octillery. Klaus's own attention is drawn to just behind Beau, his brow knitting together in mild concern as he notes a Cofagrigus manifesting from the shadows, its many hands snaking their way towards the unsuspecting Beau.

Flushing abruptly at Beau's complain, Klaus clears his throat awkwardly and mutters a low, "Curse," at his Litwick; the Cofagrigus sways in pain, the Curse creating enough of a distraction that the pokeball which is lobbed its way is mostly unnoticed.

He then blinks once as Beau accuses him all of a sudden at vandalism, his nose wrinkling in offence. Setting down his Litwick, hands resting on his hips as he glares up at Beau. "Yeah?" He challenges, his weight shifting to cause one hip to jut outwards with the action. "You gunna turn out my pockets while you're at it? Make sure I'm being a good little boy down here?" Practically sneering, and certainly not compensating for potentially being caught at his somewhat-illegal rewiring of the station, Klaus demands, "Well?"

Klaus should have let the damn Cofagrigus steal Beau's soul.
