Klaus read the letter delivered via an unknown Dragapult with a touch of incredulousness, the pokeball now in his hand weighed with an air of thoughtful confusion; his eyes widen when the page is further opened to reveal a veritable patents of nobility for the Quilava contained inside, flourished with a signature from none other than yoshiro shioda. The promise of even temperament seems a unnecessary addition in his opinion.

"Huh," Klaus murmurs, as he turns the page over to see if anything else was written. Finding none, his gaze casts over to the nearby memorial to his father's long-passed pokemon - an Alolan Meowth he remembered fondly who's descendants still lived with his family back in Lilycove. Lightly touching the headstone, the young man stands and dusts off his pants at the knees before stepping away from the stone to release the pokeball.

His hand lifting to rub at the back of his neck, Klaus utters an awkward, "Hey," at the Quilava, who squeaks curiously in reply.

There is barely a fully minute after the introduction before chaos is unleashed; time stops; slows; time fast forwards; the world pitches forwards. Dazed, Klaus barely registers to get out of the way as a massive bear pokemon swipes just above his head. The Quilava's back flares in response, flames licking the air as she bounds forwards with an Eruption. Just barely dodging a second Slash, the little pokemon slams her front paw into the ground with indignation; a light shines around her, the beginnings of an evolution that is cut short by the Ursaluna's Headlong Rush.

Klaus watches in horror as the limp body of the half-evolved Quilava slides across the ground, his magenta-pink eyes wide as he tries to find a route of escape. Deeply regretting leaving his pokemon at the lighthouse for the trip, he holds up his hand placatingly as he utters a shaky, "Hey, uh. Nice to meet you. I don't want to hurt you! Just. Just passing through ya know?" The Ursaluna roars in response, the colour draining from Klaus's face as he backs against a headstone. Cringing deeply, he mused morbidly that this was certainly one way to go as he presses his eyes closed.

His impending death never comes.

A righteous shriek from behind the Ursaluna signals the finished evolution of the Quilava into an oddly sleek Typhlosion. Purple and blue fire explodes through the air as the Typhlosion uses Infernal Parade, pelting the bear mercilessly until it snarls and finally retreats.

Left in the aftermath of silence, Klaus wordlessly stares at the Typhlosion who waddles over his way, a wholly pleased look on her face. Her head butting underneath her hand, he idly strokes behind one ear as he utters a strained, "Hey there. Thanks."

Not wanting to over-think the now risen body of his newly gifted pokemon, Klaus tips his head towards the path to murmur, "Let's get out of here."

The pair cautiously makes their way from the cemetery.

Klaus loves the Aquarium.

Nestled comfortably at one of the observation stations sunk into the exhibit, allowing the guests to feel wholly immersed in thickets of coral, Klaus sits in a corner away from the weak overhead lights. Bundled comfortably against the chill in the air with a thick hoodie, a result of so much water drawing the temperature down, he purses his lips together as he sketches on the electronic tablet in his hands.

Mostly detailing the coral surrounding the room, a few pokemon are sketched here and there on his canvas, his hand presently detailing a bit of staghorn coral; beside it is a rough sketch of a cheerful Corsola, its little arms raised as if in greeting.

Pursing his lips thoughtfully, he glances periodically to the nearby coral as his reference, the squiggles of his tablet pencil creating a bit of texture on its edges. He looks at his work with satisfaction for a moment before scrolling over to another blank section on his screen; zooming in with a handful of movements that change his brush and the colour being used, he settles in to attempt a piece of mushroom coral.

With idle bobs of his head to the music filtering through his noise-cancelling headphones, Klaus remains oblivious until he becomes a touch too into his music and taps his forefingers in beat to a drum solo. Suddenly realising he's not alone when he opens his eyes, a deep blush spreads across his face as he notices a woman in the little alcove with him looking his way.

His headphones pulled off, a nervous laugh spills from his lips as he greets her with a strangled, "Oh, hey."

Clearly having expected a different response for his clumsiness, Klaus flinches in expectation of much harsher words than the ones which spill from Barnaby's lips. Yet pale, if a touch bewildered now, a shaky smile is offered with uncertainty that his superior already knows his name, a wavering, "It's nice to meet you, Bee," sounds from the shorter man.

His attention shifts gratefully as his pokemon are complimented, his mouth hitching up further on one side. "Hansel and Gretel," he introduces the Dhelmise and Skrelp with a strangled laugh, a blush finally rising to his cheeks supply some colour once more. His age at the time of acquiring the pair sadly did not lend itself to a whimsical explanation - Klaus simply liked reading fairy tales, and often still did while up in the lighthouse as a way to pass the time.

The sight of the Starmie now in the water, however, gives him pause with curiosity. "Breeder or wild-caught," Klaus suddenly asks with a pique of curiosity, his hand motioning to the Starmie as he clarifies, "The Starmie."

As he awaits the reply he moves to hoist on his air tanks, staggering briefly under the weight before he corrects for it. With a deep pull of air into his lungs that he slowly releases, Klaus then offers, "Ready when you are."

As Nathara drops down onto his Lapras, Klaus's brow arches sharply. "Rookie," he repeats, his acerbic tone readily evident at the declaration. "Right." A muscle pulling taut in his cheek, the man instead turns to his surfacing Dhelmise.

"Sink it," Klaus instructs, pointing to the boat just vacated by his fellow Rocket grunt. Whistling through the air is an eerie wail originating from the Dhelmise before the pokemon sinks back into the water. But a moment later the boat shudders violently as it's struck from below.

Thud...

Thud!
[break][break]
THUD!
[break][break]
The second boat judders with each strike. Meanwhile, a cry of shock rips from the man and woman still on the boat, their anger morphing to terror.

It happens all at once.
[break][break]
A spray of Acid from Skrelp showers onto the deck above, wrecking havoc upon unprotected skin, while the final blow from Dhelmise upon the ship sends it sinking faster than even the first boat. Chaos ensues. When the man and woman hit the water, their gasps and cries of pain are almost immediately silenced. From the depths rise tendrils of ghostly kelp to wrap around their shoulders, their necks, to draw them swiftly down into the water, leaving only the roiling of the ocean to fill the air.

His pokemon would find their way back home. Wordlessly, Klaus taps his Lapras's shell to head back.

Klaus gives a nod of affirmation as to Mars visiting the lighthouse, his attention clearly drifting for a moment as he runs through a list of tasks he'll need to complete on the property before giving a tour. A confused, if interested "Hmm?" rumbles from the young man's chest at his superior's question, his magenta-pink gaze sliding sidelong.

"I'm not sure," Klaus begins before his words catch in his throat in surprise; in a fluid motion Mars has stripped his shirt and shoes and is in the water. A bewildered little "Ah?" sounds from the young man as he observes the unfolding scene, the Vaporeon swiftly darting down below.

Well, that was certainly something wasn't it?
[break][break]
Admiring the view as subtly as he can, Klaus eventually looks away at the sound of a splash which reveals itself to be an Inteleon. "Why not," Klaus muses to himself before directing his Skrelp with, "Double Team, and then Dragon Pulse." Observing the skirmish only half-heartedly, his gaze occasionally flicking in the direction of the ocean where Mars is diving.

It's not long before his own pokeball is thrown at the Inteleon and Klaus collects it via his Skrelp. His lips pursed for a moment, he then taps his Lapras to angle over to one of the nearby outcroppings - where the Seel had been digging - and finally completes his intended task for the trip. Kicking through the sand until the edge of an aged munitions box is revealed, Klaus retrieves the small bag from within.

Giving an absent wave to Mars, Klaus hops back onto his Lapras and the pair cuts back towards Lilycove.

Despite the chaos of noise that unfolds around the group, tension bleeds out of Klaus's frame as he looks around the hologram of Slateport. This wasn't real. He could handle not-real. Klaus's hand passes through a nearby man, a static-y feeling shooting up his arm that he duly ignores.

Fist clenching and unclenching in an absent manner, Klaus shakes out the sensation before his magenta-pink gaze settles firmly on the lighthouse in the distance. "We should go there," he asserts suddenly. The young man does not wait for anyone of his group to confirm or deny the decision, instead moving purposefully through the crowds as he mentally repeats his mantra of It's not real.

"Steel and water," Klaus mumbles, his hand going to his hip, only to pause as he thinks better of it. "Down closer to the water. Anwhistle can Safeguard us, unless someone else has a Protect. Both might be worth it. There was an Ultra Beast."

"I know the area," he continues in a distracted manner, his hand swapping to another pokeball that he doesn't release just yet. "The beach down there should be safe enough. The rocks can provide cover, but they'll hinder our movement. I can draw whatever out onto the open water if we need."

Gone is the timidity of earlier, a focused glint evident as Klaus falls silent, consumed in his plans. The song filters unbidden into Klaus's mind, an almost manic laugh spilling from his lips which then continue to move, wordlessly repeating the lyrics to himself:
