Doesn’t really matter that some methods weren’t exactly legal, and that other methods didn’t exactly follow trainer etiquette, but he’d thought about it for a while and eventually came down to the conclusion that he really just needed more firepower; that he needed more friends to share his damn life with. Kind of a sad thing to say and hear out of context, right? Well, sad or not, it was still something he’d been pondering for a while.[break][break]

He seldom went out of his way to look for Pokemon ever since arriving in Hoenn, so he figured that now was a good of a time as any to change that. Despite how he’d sooner have busied himself with other things (business, Rocket stuff, the usual) in the past, there honestly was a fair amount of little creatures he’d fancied the idea of adding to his family, and all.[break][break]

Just so happened that he crossed paths with one of those Pokemon, only for it to wriggle away and run off at the last second, leaving him clicking his tongue and sighing while scratching his head.[break][break]

]”Hahaha, you say that like we’re not both here on business, right now~!” he said back with what (for the most part) had been a jokingly sarcastic tone, but to the trained ear, there would’ve been a small bite to his words despite the grin he wore. Nevertheless, he leaned back into his seat, watching as the dealer began shuffling the cards to and fro. He reached into the innermost pockets of his jacket for a moment before picking out what seemed to be smaller fold of bills, putting them on the table. ”I respect the grind, but I’m just sayin’— it’s kiiiinda selfish and detrimental to other tasks if all you’re thinkin’ about is fucking off~.”[break][break]

He watched as the dealer took the bills and slid the according amounts and types of chips towards them.[break][break]

”...Blackjack, though. I’m sure ya at least know how to play it, right~?”

”Oh, bitch, I know I look good in it~.” Although she hadn’t seen it, he lifted his arms with a grin and flexed them as if on cue, in light of her words. His gaze shifted over his shoulder as one of the attendants helped him fasten a tether onto the respective slots and hooks of his suit. ”Like I said, emphasizes the goods. If it wasn’t obvious before, it’s obvious now, baby.”[break][break]

He lowered his arms, glimpsing over the boat and into the waters beneath them.[break][break]

”...That aside, though, this shouldn’t be too hard?” he hummed pensively, quirking his lip. ”Supposedly they’re within a mile down? But, like…that’s the max. Probably gonna be less than that.”

He recoiled softly with a scrunch of the face and a quick, disgruntled grunt at the flick. ”Biiiiitch…” had been his initial, grumbling form of response to it, and after eying her with a faint degree of disdain and annoyance, he sighed before returning the gesture by gently slapping (applying, really) an opened hand directly onto her face. He patted her like that a couple of times.[break][break]

”Not really, though. Your turn’s your turn, anyways--”

With a purse of his lips in mock thought, he narrowed his eyes at her before shrugging as they walked along. ”Suit yourself,” he responded nonchalantly, missing little more than a beat as he reached down for another leg. ”Open up for Jay Jay the Jet Plane--”[break][break]

…And he just crammed it into her face.

The skepticism was clear in his voice, and as if emphasizing it more, he shook his head with a further furrow of the brows, clicking his tongue. ”Like, yeah, money’s sexy? But are you really sure it’ll work?” he spoke with no shortage of inquiry, crossing his arms. He tapped his foot gently against the ground all the while as if impatient, or even just pensive. ”The perfumes work for us, yeah, but what if it’s got a different effect on Pokemon? What if it just, like…makes them more angry, or something?”[break][break]

He thought on it more before giving an eventual sigh, shaking his head and beginning to walk again.[break][break]

”Ah, whatever…”

His intention was to just keep walking on once she could hold on, as he began to take a step, and then two, and then a third, he paused in thought before slowly bringing himself to a stop again. Turning his head, he eyed her with a gentle furrow of the brows before nodding her way in acknowledgment.[break][break]

”...You sure you’re good?” he questioned again, skeptically. ”Kinda feels like you’re shaking a bit.”

”A couple things, really,” he murmured absentmindedly, narrowing his eyes with a pensive hum as he continuously peered through the cabinets. Before long, though, he found himself glancing off to the side at the sound of some softer clattering, and after staring at a lower cabinet that a certain little lizard so graciously opened and hissed at, he crouched and shifted over to peer inside.[break][break]

”Oh, there it is. Thanks, Pele.”[break][break]

He reached in and plucked it out before shutting the door and wrestling his wrists upon his knees, pushing himself back up with a hefty sigh before reaching over to rest the sieve onto the counter. ”First off is a luau stew, the second is a boil up,” he went on, tapping his hand onto the surface where he’d placed most of his ingredients. ”Ingredients are over there. If ya really don’t mind helping, I already got some flour and water measured out next to a bowl. Do me a solid and just knead those together for the boil up dumplings, but, uh…pass the flour through the sieve, first. Gets rid of lumps.”

He stuck his tongue out and blew a raspberry. ”Ah, fine, whatever. You’re no fun, anyways.” A sigh followed the words after they’d been spoken aloud, and as he lifted the glass he’d taken up to his lips again, he gave a quick, higher hum of acknowledgment as he sipped and nodded towards one of the tables afar as he made eye contact with the dealer (a coworker) some ways off and exchanged nods. ”There’s our game, though~,” he added, glancing towards the silver haired woman from the corner of his eye as he nudged her. ”C’mon~.”[break][break]

And with that, he lifted a hand and planted it onto her shoulder after a couple of taps, gently pushing her along towards the aforementioned table. Though she likely hadn’t seen it for herself, both he and the croupier shared another, smaller nod and exchange as the other players gathered themselves. He sat down with a hum, subtly slipping his hands into the pockets of his jacket briefly.[break][break]

”Are ya sure you don’t wanna give it a couple of tries, though~?” he asked again, his voice raising once more in inquiry.[break][break]

His nose scrunched immediately at her question, and he turned his head towards with a similar spark of judgment within his eyes.[break][break]

”I mean…it ain’t that I’m unhappy...?” he started off with a rise within his tone, eventually ending his initial statement with a pensive grumble. Glancing down towards his suit again, he narrowed his eyes before reaching up to tug at it again. ”Just uncomfortable? Like-... I dunno, don’t you feel kinda exposed while wearing this?”[break][break]

He tugged a few more times before sighing and releasing it, watching as the material immediately snapped back onto his body. Quirking his lip, his gaze remained upon the reformed section of the suit before he leaned back against the inner wall of the boat again, eventually glancing over towards his arms.[break][break]

”...At least it emphasizes my body.”
