Sy flashes her two big thumbs up and checks the street for vehicles and ride Pokemon before striking out across it, Vermillion following in his wake. At the opposite sidewalk he goes round the corner and selects an alleyway between two buildings. Looking back at Nina, he says, “The park and the practice fields are just down this way--,”

Vermillion shrieks loud enough for him to freeze, foot mid-step in the air. He looks at her, then down to where she’s pointing, to see his foot hovering above a defenseless Snom, about to be crushed to worm goo by 200 plus pounds of extremely fit man.

“Oh, snap. Sorry, little bud,” he says, averting the path of his foot and stooping to scoop the little worm up safely out of harm’s way. “That would’ve been real rough. Good eye, Verm.”

With a small, sheepish laugh, he continues on to the practice field.

Something stirred deep within him-- a competitiveness he thought he’d long put to rest.

“Sounds like a good time. I’m in.” He lifted one arm to gesture around them. “But maybe not in the middle of the street?”

Verm tittered disapprovingly. Combat on a sidewalk meant other people might get hurt!

A Floette happened across their path and Vermillion reached out and grabbed it instinctively, to rip off the flower and add it to her lei. Sy made an aborted noise of panic and intervened with a Pokeball before that could happen.

“There’s a practice field near here,” he said, shoulders dropping after the moment of alarm. “Less collateral.”

A barrage of attacks fly towards the Huntail in all forms-- Columbina’s moonblast is just one that lands. The great beast’s death knell seems to shake the very molecules of the water, its massive body kicking up sand and silt. Symon is still hanging onto annalise henderson, and he twitches and winces a bit with each blow, like watching a sports play-by-play.

He waves a little weakly at CIAN MAHER, who thanks him for help he didn’t really give, before finally releasing Annalise from his grasp where he’s been squeezing her like a stressball.

“Sorry, sorry,” he says hastily, rubbing at the back of his neck. “I’m an anxious hugger.”

Columbina returns back to him with a victorious trill, nudging him with her nose towards the downed Huntail. Sy hesitates. He doesn’t want to leave the dig team unguarded, but Columbina bites him through his wetsuit. She wants to go bathe in the gory glory of her success! Sy relents, grabbing her fin and allowing her to pull him through the water to the massive sea-beast’s final resting place.
