"riots are being thrown, i hope you know that." [break][break]

she sighs, straightening her back as she attempts to grab onto what was supposed to be a longer piece - the leash that he was talking about, though it was still short enough to be annoying - and she can finally tug it up properly. she'd be relieved if it weren't for how tight the wet suit felt. at least she can breathe in it. "so you say, but apparently not all wet suits were manufactured the same" her eyes narrow, and she shakes her head. "i heard from somewhere that the zipper was in the front" she groans, lifting herself on the boat to slowly dip her foot into the surface of water "needless to say, i feel cheated." [break][break]

the words are followed by a soft 'splash' into the water, and gravity is cruel enough to dunk her underneath a little while until she surfaces back up, properly, thanks to her fingers clinging onto the edge of the boat for dear life. her other arm raises up, holding close to her body, and she narrows her eyes down to the corsola below.[break][break]

and after a bit of gandering, she opts to gather the floating locks of ashen hair to rest against her shoulder, lest they spread out over the surface of the water and obscure their vision. "cold--" she curls into herself shortly afterwards "jumping in all at once was a mistake--"

"ouch, stingy with your praise." wearing a smile to her lips, marisol chuckles - though with the underlying tone of a scoff. maybe she shouldn't be the one to say that, though, what with how jaded she's become. what with how warped she's become from the woman she once was. [break][break]

a single eye narrows, fingers moving as a pointer finger gently presses against her bottom lip. she hums, both in amusement and to fill her end of the silence as she deliberates. "mmn.. i could argue that's true" her lips curl into a smile, her other hand raising up with an open palm, facing down, and tilting the invisible scale "about.. thirty percent of the time?~"

neurology is a field of interest to her.[break][break]

the brain is complex, you see. though psychology was never a focus for someone who invested her time in autonomy and anatomy, having parents who work with pharmaceuticals and (less ethical) experiments open the path a lot more than you'd think they would. take this paper, for example; where she remembers a man who was so, so engrossed in his research to where he would dissect a pokemon (and for the sake of appearances, would guise it under psychological research to examine behaviours). marisol's single eye skims the paragraphs, familiar terminology and wording fly by as the knowledge is gradually following and lagging behind. [break][break]

first it started with the body, then sensations, then the mind, then pain, then consciousness; the trend was so predictable that reading through these papers play back old memories. ah, how hateful. now she takes a look through the cerebellum and cerebrum, two parts of the brain that dr. olson was so focused on in this particular paper. [break][break]

the sounds of leaves rustling in the breeze are blocked out, eventually, and all in her world are the words, the feeling of her screen against her thumb, and the single route between her cup of coffee to her lips. the mundane cycle. an insultingly simple cycle. [break][break]

that's quite easily broken, by the sound of a man suddenly calling her by a shortened nickname. "oh my--" her body suddenly jolts at the sudden call, fingertips flinching enough to nearly knock over her cup. it doesn't spill, thankfully, but good god, her heart probably skipped a beat from the shock. who dares to disturb her quiet ti-- oh. oh, it's him. [break][break]

she gives him a dulled violet stare as he makes his way over, then she attempts to pull herself back together, like she wasn't about to drop her coffee. "arceus, don't surprise me like that.." her eye narrows, finger moving to click her phone to sleep. the woman leans forwards, one leg crossed over the other, with an elbow to her knee "i was let out early, actually." she wears a small smile, tilting her head "and you? aren't you usually holed up in your office doing work at this time?~"

ah yes, a bunch of fully grown adults and trainers. rangers and officers, some who were with the military (read as: this man), thwarted by a bunch of bugs. the image comes out of a sitcom - one that she wouldn't mind spending a few nights binging. even if she knows that bugs were a terrifying bunch in the world they lived in today, the image is still enough to make her smile to herself. damn. if only there was a camera. [break][break]

"ah, ah." she starts, moving her hands over the wound that he tries to run his fingers over. the woman wags her finger, slightly (it's out of habit) as she holds the pad between tweezers. then she stats to gently dab around open scraps and wounds, cleaning it up first. "don't touch the wound. first aid one-oh-one~" she chimes, making quick rock as any blood marks are absorbed by the pad. it probably stings a little, but he's a big man. he can handle himself. now she hums, gauze in hand after placing the tweezers and cotton pad down to gently wrap around and over the wound "i'm kind of assigned all over the place" her eye scans his arm, searching for any more wounds, and doing the same. clean and wrap. "the only downside, is that i'm paying to work in the field. isn't that funny?"

though she's smart enough to easily have a doctorate or two under her belt, that changes nothing about the zipper, nor does it diminish her struggle, thank you very much. [break][break]

with her hands behind the back, she tries to pinch the zipper together so it's at least easier to tug it up. unfortunately, arms don't work that way, and she can only barely reach the dangling piece of plastic (metal?) that taunts her so, just sitting there on her upper back. "and yet here i am, on the verge of throwing a riot." she scoffs, slightly, tilting and arching her back. maybe if she plays with angles enough, she'll actually be able to reach the damn thing. curse you, human anatomy. [break][break]

"i'd like to see you try to tug a zipper that's just out of reach." she sighs, parting her hair from behind to have ashen-blue locks rest over her shoulders. "the suit is on me, and i'd appreciate some kind of help?" a leg rests over the other, and she leans her elbow against her knee "before i try to figure out new ways the human body can move to reach the bloody top of my back."

the corsola sighs, white eyes in black sclera narrow at his words. sure, the experiments weren't.. great? but she thinks that they were necessary. i mean, the trainer doesn't exactly do anything to hurt them (we don't talk about the wild pokemon she decides to nab here and there) so there shouldn't be anything too.. unethical about it. [break][break]

she shrugs - what was probably her shoulders - while swinging her body back up, that time to sit up straight, bobbing back and forth as she regains her balance. "i mean, there's also a bunch of.. brain experiment stuff she does on herself. she has a lot of computers and papers and pictures of the brain and stuff at home." not that the corsola knows what it's for.

she muses, humming in a sing-song tune that she never would have a few months past. back then, she would have stammered, and stuttered, or apologized to a man who'd probably enjoy the meek behaviour (though would have found it annoying before long; she can't blame him and it surprises her to see him still calling her out for an outing after this time). meanwhile, he was a stark contrast; the man hasn't changed a bit. it's a bit of a relief. [break][break]

the visible eye casually scans over the two pokemon passing by, though doesn't bother to give a second glance as she turns her gaze back towards the path ahead of them "ah, that poor soul." she hums, a small smile to her lips as she tilts her head forwards, directing her gaze to the ground. an old habit. "try not to drive them insane with your antics."

not often she's assigned to rustboro, but what can she do? [break][break]

it's better than the bustling of mauville, anyhow. preferring the workload but not the amount of people is a contradicting, considering her job. but.. the less people the better. it means less people are hurt, less people to care for. overall, it means good things. or people are too stubborn to take advantage of the free pokemon healthcare. that's a different kind of worry. [break][break]

.. even if the point is fruitless. today is a slow day - so slow that they actually asked her to leave early for today. you would think that they'd be more careful with assigning nurses so that they aren't overstaffed, though she can't blame them when a morning passes and nothing noteworthy happens. long story short: she was assigned for the morning, the afternoon workers started coming in, they got overstaffed, and so they sent home some of the students thinking they were "less qualified" then the actual nurses. which, fair, but now she has free time she didn't plan for. [break][break]

the day is still strong, so marisol went out to grab herself a little donut at the local bakery, along with a cup of coffee (sweetened, though to where it's less "coffee" and more "hot chocolate with a bit of coffee in it"). she sits herself on a bench in an empty park with a fountain running, and in her lap sits a tablet. her free hand scrolls through the pages of a document, until she comes to a stop when the names "OLSON" reach the top. "how pretentious." she scoffs, a smile of contempt on her lips as she scowls at the name beneath greyish-blue bangs. [break][break]

contempt and disgust are brief in her expression, but it settles and dissolves as she reads, and grows engrossed in her reading. some things never change.

it's another slow day, but she's expected it now. [break][break]

what is there to worry about in petalburg? how violently the beedrill sting you? (yes, it will actually hurt a lot, and could actually be life threatening, but for the sake of her point, we'll pretend that it's only a little flesh wound.) marisol sighs, very softly, as a happiny bounces around on the ground of the pokemon centre, the little thing is so happy that they can have more time resting, here. at least, it's not s busy as it is in mauville. [break][break]

she can't complain about field work, though it's when it's so empty does she feel antsy. there are so many experiments and observations she could be making back at home, and yet, she's here. the woman narrows her eyes (one through a medical eye patch) while the pink pokemon rolls around, chatting up the neighbouring chansey. [break][break]

another slow day until.. some officers and rangers come in, somewhat wounded, with their pokemon in tow. the woman perks up, slightly, seeing the group come in, and as the other nurses are quick on the uptake. what piques her interest isn't the group; it's someone in the group. [break][break]

moving from her seat, she grabs her own kit of equipment and weaves through the few nurses already tending to them. "i'll handle this one." she smiles, nudging the nurse who was about to tend to a certain someone. their surprise isn't suppressed, but she doesn't dwell on it. marisol lowers herself to the cushioned bench, motioning her hand down for the man to do the same. "so" she starts, opening up her kit to pluck a cotton ball and disinfectant "what bug pokemon caused all of this?~"

seeing him casually wave his hand and turn his head puts a small smile on her face, slightly out of appreciation, mostly out of amusement. she thankfully makes somewhat quick work of her clothing, and changing into the wetsuit (considering that all she was wearing was a t-shirt and a pair of shorts for the warm weather), although she does have to move just a little bit while putting the suit on properly, and it rocks the boat a little. [break][break]

and when it does, she quite literally freezes until the boat stabilizes, and she goes back to rocking it very slightly as she tries to get her legs through the damn thing. "mm.." she hums, slipping her arms through ".. it should be okay as long as i hold onto the edge of the boat?" she tilts her head, bunching her hair so it's not caught under the fabric. it's form fitting, and makes her feel a tad awkward since it's so skin-tight. ".. one sec." she sighs, grunting softly as she tries to reach for the zipper. "just-- mm... one.. sec..!"[break][break]
