Rook was used to being considering odd, and even more so, dramatic. He was okay with those qualities because there was nothing more insulting to him than to be considering ordinary. Something had struck him particularly hard that time. That stupid game had to go and get under his skin, driving up all of these little painful memories and feelings of a past he felt was better left buried. The problem was it was a thin layer of dirt covering it and the remains had started to stink. He pulled up out of the bath, leaving his wine and phone perched on the little dinner table tray.

Maybe he should have stopped to reconcile his feelings on his own, or at least taken the time to towel off. Maybe even put on clothes because it was still the dead of winter and their little apartment did the best it could with keeping them warm. He didn't do any of those things, even after almost slipping on the cheap linoleum and peeking out the door to see his actual boyfriend was snoozing.

It didn't feel right to interrupt Lam's personal time because Lam had left him be during his much-desired bath time. So, he didn't wake him up initially. Not one purpose at least, he thought as he slipped on to the bed, careless to the fact he was still quite wet. He'd worry about the sheets and the mattress after the fact. In truth, he just wanted to fill the hollow void that had carved out in him. It was supposed to be a cute game and it was, so why did he feel so empty by the end of it?

Why was he crying when he pressed his face against Lam's body? He didn't know, but already he felt a little bit better.

"Happy new year, Lam." He laughed lightly, letting them naturally drift closer and slowly tangle in one another.

Hands lingered over his skin, slipping across the rough linen of bandages and burning the skin spaced between. Every little touch lit a fire in him and provoked immeasurable little sighs and breaths. Already he felt like he was being untwined until he was shivery and loose. He was love drunk, in his own way. Maybe not quite the same way as Lam but still swoony, as if in flight.

Without thought, they were slipping back from the living room. It was, admittedly, a bit pointless to put so much effort in the lights and champagne and the rose petals decorating the bed. They never paid that much attention in the heat of the moment. Once again, Lam was reminding him that romance didn't require massive gestures. It was a product of passion, a moment between two idiots tangled in one another so tightly that they didn't know how to split apart (not for long anyways).

This was enough, it was his perfection. He knew he'd never trade it in a million years. "That's very considerate of you, baby." He laughed before the other directed the other back to his bandages. Thus, the artless effort of removing them. Sometimes, he wondered why he still did it and he knew it was a product of habit and trauma. He did it to hide that part of his life. It felt perfect, as long as he didn't have to look at himself. In a way, it was a tapestry, except instead of it being a beautiful mural like Lam's art, it was just decades of pain that he was still running away from.

He still didn't always feel comfortable with the contact, with Lam looking at them and, for the most part, Lam did his part it making it seem like no big deal for him. He was good like that. It bothered Rook less now.

Jinx seemed excited enough about the idea of a younger version of her. So he couldn't imagine she'd have a problem, in the end. His mind was instead slipping to the grumpy little murkrow staring down at him. She was really quite adorable, one of the only bird types that he appreciated seeing. Thus he couldn't give up the opportunity to catch her. Jinx struck out then with shadow ball and Rook quickly threw a pokeball.

Sure, maybe Rook was a little over-excitable? Definitely, but he liked what he liked. They'd never been exactly normal, but he still liked the pokemon he caught. They were unique. He was odd too, of course, so maybe that was how he justified it. He knew that Lam didn't always understand his tastes, but he was always really supportive and that was really all that Rook could ask for.

"A Zorua!! Catch it, catch it, Lam!" He laughed before quieting a little at that, realizing he didn't want to scare the little fox pokemon off.

His own attention was stolen by the Swirlix watching the act in dopey silence. "Aww, hey there little guy." He knelt in front of the pokemon, it dopey smile firmly affixed to its fluffball face. "Wanna be my friend, huh?"

Rook had never travelled this far out before. The desert was unlike anything he'd felt before, blazing heat and dryness that he can feel through his skin and the creak of his bones. It reminds him that his usual preference has always been for the cold, but he was there for a reason. It couldn't be avoided. Of course, he'd been encouraged by a supportive boyfriend, so it didn't make it all that hard in the end to build up the courage.

Jinx didn't really know why they were there either and he couldn't blame the Zoroark's confusion. In truth, he didn't fully know why he was there either. Not entirely, at least. This would either go well or... well, it wouldn't. The latter was probably more likely considering his usual luck with these sorts of things. Those were negativities that he was learning to wean himself off of though. Rook was far crueler to himself than anyone else could ever manage to be.

For a moment, his eyes leave the Zoroark, fixating then on the shard before him. A YELLOW SHARD that glints in the strange ambiance cast by the distortion. Hesitantly, he plucked it from the surface holding it aloft. His history of thieving made him nervous of the repercussions to this kind of plundering. Something told him he needed to act quickly. Yet, when he turned around, the zoroark he knew well had vanished and was then replaced in a different form.

They were out into the snow in no time. The warmth of their shared space was left behind, replaced by the deep chill of the winter atmosphere. At first it was a little like jumping into cold water, but almost immediately he settled into it quite easily. He'd always enjoyed the cold, for some reason. Though he'd never met another person that liked the cold the same way he did.

He was certain that if he looked deep enough, he'd probably find some psychological reasoning for it like all of his other weird quirks, but that diminished the mystery and the feeling of strength that came with braving something that most other people hated. He liked things that required some adversity, from pokemon to weather. Though, his boyfriend was about as far from adversity as he could get, which was probably good. Lam was calm and cool and collected, the definition of confident in his book. Even if Lam didn't always agree. Still, that was super attractive to him. The same way it was to see Lam's eyes light up with the snow.

Of course, the thrill would dissipate quickly and Lam would get over the delight of snow, but for now Rook would admire the childlike excitement of it.

Rook sipped at his coffee, letting it warm him before releasing Lam's hand to scoop at some snow. "I used to like eating snow as a kid. Weirdly tasty. If it's yellow though, it's not lemon-flavored." He laughed at that.

They were going on a trip. It was a surprise, apparently. Rook liked that, the mystery of it. There was something very romantic about that, which wasn't usually Lam's forte. His boyfriend might not have been the most romantic person in the world, but that didn't really bother Rook because he was. He made up for the other's lacking sense of amour. However, when Lam did put in the effort to be passionate, Rook could see the intent there. God, he loved it.

Ikarus gawked at the place that Lam had taken them too. "Wow! Lam, I love it." The other man knew him better than anyone ever cared to. He was the only person, it seemed, that had ever actually tried. Granted, Rook didn't always make it easy, he was odd and most of the time limited himself in a lot of ways.

"A hotspring, I've never been to one before." He'd always wanted to though. Bath time was his favorite thing to do. There was something so relaxing about chilling in the bath tub. It was his "me time" and he took it very seriously. Like no one interrupted Lam's sleep, there was no interruption to Rook's bath time and he'd gotten snappy about it just as the other had when Rook had unwittingly woken him up.

He grinned before hugging the other and planting a big smooch on Lam's cheek. "I love this, thank you."

It started with a kiss, so really... Rook thought it was going pretty great, right? Sure, they were in a weird creepy underwater world, but that was a vibe he could live with. He liked weird vibes after all, but things were steadily descending into unfathomable depths. Something bad was going on. It was a little hard to keep up with. First, his boyfriend was panicking and his friend was coughing.

Rook wasn't familiar with handling panicking situations well. He tended to close down under pressure, an after-effect of a bad childhood. Likely, it would come back to bite him when his failure to act ate at his guilt complex. Truthfully, he just didn't know what to do. "Lam? Lam... it's okay, calm down." It's just fish, he wanted to tell him, but that wasn't the truth for Lam. Fish were a big deal and there was no changing that fact for the other.

Had he known the Gyarados was Elio's, he might not have been quite so kind to him after the fact. It was never funny playing on other's fears, he knew that better than anyone.

"What?" Rook flinched under the contact as Lam yanked him aside. It was alright though, it was just Lam. Everything was okay, right?

Lam was ultimately right, of course. When was Lam ever wrong? Except for the times he was maybe wrong but Rook still thought he was right regardless. "Yeah, that makes sense." Trying to befriend wasn't always the best idea and that seemed to be true once again. Especially when he saw the oddest looking pokemon of the bunch. He let out a little gasp. "Oh, Lam... it's perfect."

Truly, he didn't know what it was... Probably a new pokemon like the one Lam had just found. "Okay, I'm gonna catch it." He looked down to Rosie. "Okay, one more time. Play rough!" She dashed out at the unknown pokemon in her funny little way before attacking. Then, he quickly followed it up with another pokeball.

Admittedly, Rook was somewhat besieged by his partner's energy, but he wasn't about to object to it. If fury had to go somewhere, it might as well be this. It was almost humorous because it wasn't a side of Lam that he'd gotten to see before. It was sexy. Though there was never a time that Lam wasn't sexy, be it slow and steady or frenetic as it was right then. No one had ever owned him quite this way, body and soul. He would never relent this ownership either. Lam could have him.

Laughter sung in his ears, vibrated against the base of his throat. The sound was beautiful. He was beautiful. Rook wasn't certain that he could ever prove deserving enough, but Lam had a point. It wasn't like Lam didn't know what he wanted, or that Rook could trick him. To suggest otherwise would be insulting at best.

"Not possible." He teased back, teeth nipping at a reddened lower lip. Hands and teeth plucked at bandaging, unravelling it and prying fabric and linen aside. His own hands slipped down to the hem of the other's sweatpants, teasing fingers slipping under fabric before pulling impatiently.

Maybe it was a lapse in judgement that led him here. It was okay to be a little messy in their love though, right? Maybe he didn't deserve to pay for it at the end of the day. Lam was too good for him. Most of all, this was not sustainable. He wanted to be better, so that he could see himself as the person that Lam deserved. That was thought for a later time, not motivated by heat and passion and love. I love you, Lam had told him, that was really all that mattered right?

“Yeah, suppose it is,” He said, head tilted, as if the goldeen was anything but a fish, but also possibly not. There really was no room for debate in that category. Only, he was a touch slow to the point, which was the distinct reminder of Lam telling him about his fear of fish. “Oh right… don’t be afraid, lamchop. There’s far worse out there than a little goldeen.” He didn’t want to belittle his partner’s fear, even if it was a little funny. So, he grabbed the other’s hand, giving him an encouraging squeeze. This was his attempt at being encouraging, which wasn’t very good.

“Throw me at will, I’ll be your human shield.” He laughed, with no doubt that Lam would sacrifice him at the slightest hint of a fishy threat. “Hey watch this,” With a touch of difficulty, he spun upside down and began walking down the ceiling of the tunnel. Then, pushed off so that he was upside-down facing Lam.
