With a patron like Tapu Koko, the idea of stealth often falls by the wayside. Not that Fern is annoyed by this—okay, perhaps they were at first, but they’ve come to adopt a shared mindset, linked as they are.[break][break]
A grand entrance fit for their shared chaos.[break][break]
Still, they default to their superior and don’t launch into the mess, headfirst. There are numerous little lackeys wielding the letters, but Fern isn't daunted by the amount. Far from it.[break][break]
“Do you think there are more than unown?”[break][break]
They’re ominous with their beady, wide eyes. Fern doesn’t understand how Naomi Sato manages to surround herself with the little creatures. Even coming from someone who enjoys the presence of spookier companions.[break][break]
Tapu Koko, meanwhile, snaps its shield together, twisting to ward off bolts of HIDDEN POWER before it drives the pointed beak of the bird mask down into the earth. A conduit to summon down a booming electrical column of THUNDER.

Fern pats the flat of her head before she sinks out of view again, no doubt to patrol the opposite side.[break][break]
Just then, their sableye scuttles back—gleeful titters rumbling from her throat as she tugs the admin’s pantleg and dances from foot to foot.[break][break]
“It seems we have company,” they muse to Dane as their smile sharpens.

Nudging him with an elbow, Fern lets their brows rise and fall playfully. “Good, huh? Sounds like an understatement.” It’s only ribbing, lighthearted teasing. Meant to ease the knot of tension that suddenly winds itself up between them. But the moment turns more serious regardless of their efforts to ease Mint’s troubles.[break][break]
As Mint speaks, Fern lets out a sigh– one of lamentation rather than exasperation. “I know, I know. I hate that too. We really should fix that,” their glance tilts sideways toward him, about to suggest that they might find a weekend to hunker down and really make up for the lack of time together. But then the other is continuing on, and they feel something in their chest plummet with a dreadful feeling. Probably their heart. Something like guilt, though they don’t know what exactly it is they feel guilty for.[break][break]
Fern stops short again and turns to Mint with a swift frown. Their hands plant on his shoulders and they give him a soft shake. “What’s this nonsense?” they ask quietly, blue eyes drifting down to green with intent. “Don’t be silly, Mint. You’re not a bother, not to me.” They sigh, and their own shoulders slump as they consider the fumble in the beast’s words. His agitation and anxiety. “You are a chara,” they slip into that familiar Galarian dialect they grew up with. “My friend. My dearest one.”[break][break]
A tiny frown mars their reassurance as the cogs in their mind continue to turn. “Did something in your dream? Did I do something? Well, not me, but you know what I mean.”

A soft snort follows their joke, but it’s not at all mocking. “My condolences. Hopefully you do get a bit of a reprieve.”[break][break]
Though honestly, that might be unlikely given how active Rocket is here.[break][break]
Their head tilts, and as if they summon her, a dragapult phases through the wall to greet them. It is not often that she’s kept in the confines of a ball, so she drifts about. There and then gone, only to reappear again.[break][break]
“She should be,” Fern remarks with a nod at the spectral creature. “She died there, but the mount gave her back. Or the rift there, really.”

It’s strange to find vestiges of the DRK Triad out in the open like this. So blatantly.

What is orchestrated, when it comes to things like this? Nothing quite feels like chance.[break][break]

“A little too coincidental, if you ask me,” they remark as electricity sparks off of Tapu Koko as it flits around them.[break][break]

The floating unown are eerie as ever, and Fern has to wonder if they’re really so oblivious to the new presence of the two Rockets.[break][break]

They smile, glancing at Theo with bright eyes. “I’m glad we are all in agreement then.”[break][break]

Without cue or any sort of patience, the island spirit launches itself forward with all of the furor of NATURE’S MADNESS reverberating from its form.

“What’s keeping you?” It’s no more than conversational questioning. Fern has always been, and likely always will be, more than a little bit inquisitive.[break][break]

They sigh, and from a pokeball, their sableye springs free. Sidhe chatters with obvious glee at being set to the task of running the perimeter of the station.[break][break]

With a cackle, she takes off to do surveillance– sneaking through the shadows, with only the occasional gleam of her gemstone eyes to give her away.[break][break]

Fern ponders the statement as he sets her to task, and then looks back toward Dane. “It’s an unfortunate truth.” They let out a humorless scoff. “But it the sort of business that keeps you employed, no?”

Perhaps agitated was not exactly the right word. More like…restless? Whatever the cause, Tapu Koko had been eager to leave when they first forged their bond as patron and avatar.[break][break]
“Mm, well, I figure this one here has been the only exciting find so far,” Fern tries not to dwell on that disappoint for long. The resolve is still there, and they’ll keep snooping around the city until they figure something out.[break][break]
And they are certain that Theo will be an asset to that endeavor.[break][break]
“Oh, of course. With Tapu Koko around, most everything is.” And also with them around, because Fern is a treat.[break][break]
It flits toward them now, though, zipping around the pair of them with pointed interest. “Wait, I think our friend’s found spotted something.”

“So watching this station now should be no difficult task for you,” they remark casually, before their focus drifts out toward the expanse of the chasm beyond.[break][break]

"An expression, darling," they remark dryly as they breeze into the conference room behind jayden cross. Their tone lacks much inflection, but is somewhat teasing, given away by the small curl at the corner of their mouth. "It means we have a dilemma on our hands."[break][break]
Really, though, their mind is in the present - an exasperated huff slips out as Jayden fumbles to pull out their chair before they can get to it themself. Still, they slip into it while also thinking that they could have managed the simple feat just fine on their own.[break][break]
He has been like this constantly as of late.[break][break]
"I do think the barriers make for a useful fortification." they agree with howard slayte. And selfishly, when it comes to Sootopolis, they would prefer their home unsquashed by some pink zeppelin of a dynamaxed jigglypuff. Or similar.[break][break]
It is the news Jayden supplies that dampens their amusement. "Agreed," their glance flits to BARNABY FINCH and then back to the file.[break][break]
"It'd probably be only a matter of time before Eternatus shows up, right?"[break][break]
It would make sense, wouldn't it? Their nose wrinkles in distaste. They don't remember much now of their time spent in the alternate Galar, but much of that last battle lingers - not at all quick to fade. "Did Calyrex share anything with any of you lot?" Fern had steered clear.[break][break]
At the time, they hadn't been sure if it was the same Calyrex, but they hadn't exactly helped it so much as sped up its death the last time they had encountered it - if it was.

It is unfortunate that they miss even a bit of the show for the convenience of quick travel. Offended by the attempt the terastalized raboot makes, Tapu Koko swerves from its task in pursuing the second in order to try snatching at the bunny up between its pincers.[break][break]
In doing so, it tries to shoot upward into the air again to give it a little SKY DROP from considerable height.[break][break]
When Fern reemerges, it is the first thing they notice. Their attention deviates to find the subject of their study, but lands on kyle lopez instead.[break][break]
Their expression crumples into a sulk, and in a flash and crack of sound, they travel the space between them in no more than few blinks.[break][break]

fern can apparate or travel from place to place instantaneously using electricity and electrical currents. there does not need to be preexisting electricity for this to be possible, for they can create their own.

"Ohhh...I wish you wouldn't do that!" they whine, their tone edging on childish dismay as they make a grab at the communicator in the Top Champ's hand. Their expression shifts again and their smile is a wild, sharp thing. "You're bound to spoil all the fun."

Howard's exasperation drew a giggle of entertainment from Fern. The sound bright to cut through the doom and gloom hanging in the air of the office. "Then you should refuse to do the work for him," they comment simply. Then, a pause - "So wait, why are we doing these for ol' ComBee?"[break][break]
On Elisabeth Fiorelli's handwriting, their expression fell into a look of contemplation. "Hmm.. yes, I see your point." They gave the impression of doing complex mental math, but they were only picturing the signature in mind. Mentally making those corrections. "I will practice," Fern then declared swiftly, fist falling against the flat of their open palm. "Then I will come to you for critique."[break][break]
Despite pointers, Howard was equally as praising, and Fern was quick to preen. "Why thank you!" I'm deciding what I should do next, in fact. Lady With a Furret? Or - ooh! Numel Descending a Staircase?"[break][break]
They looks to their fellow admin with expectant, eager eyes. (And quite notably, their hand had suspiciously ceased all productivity.)[break][break]
"Hm? Oh...good question. It is somewhere on the sub." A delighted laugh slipped free. "If I had to wager a guess, it's probably trying to scavenge in the canteen." Always a troublemaker - something they'd grown increasingly fond of. "Why do you ask?"

The sound only swells into something louder and full when he finally does reply.[break][break]
"Oh, says the pot to the kettle," Fern remarks, teasing as they nudge him with an elbow. "It's not like we've never done the same. We've just never been caught."[break][break]
Fern scoffs, nose wrinkling and blue eyes rolling, "Let the clergy clutch their rosaries and be done with it. They are just as gossipy as any other person in Ballonlea. Don't take it so seriously."[break]break]
They turn toward him, though, brow arching. "Or is there another reason you're concerned about it..?"

They can get through this if he is here beside them. Because he doesn't look at them as if they're too different now. Changed in a way that can't be fixed.[break][break]
The shift in his expression isn't one of disdain, but they don't quite know how to pinpoint it. It is not bad, though, and it ignites their curiosity.[break][break]
Breathing out, Fern's gaze rises to Jayden's. Their smile is still relieved, but bright. There is one less uncertainty to be concerned with. When lips press against theirs, they sight into the kiss. But it is short-lived as it trails away. Automatically, their head tilts to give him access to their neck.[break][break]
A shiver races under their skin, excited static sparks kick off of them at points of contact. They can't help it, it just happens..[break][break]
"What's gotten into you?" they purr, voice teasing as their fingers curl around his arms. Pulling him closer. "Not that I mind," they add hastily, smile wide as they drag him back under.
