He'd run away, but what else was he supposed to do? wren rourke wasn't supposed to be there and yet... this shouldn't have happened. He should have left earlier, not even gotten in a fight with his best friend to begin with. The only hope he had was that Wren hadn't figured out who he was in the process, but that wasn't looking entirely certain.

Levy was out of breath by the time he stopped running, realizing he headed back the way he'd come from. Back towards the theater. It might have been best to make like a golbat and get the hell out of dodge, but he still had a job, didn't he? And yet... "You gotta be fuckin kidding me." He hissed at the sight of the blonde, the same that had attacked his group earlier. Obviously, the kid had about as much emotional control as a toddler, so it wasn't surprising when a fight was initiated right off the bat.

He couldn't catch a break. Truthfully, he didn't have lot of options left (or pokemon for that matter that were still in fighting shape). So, he'd just have to make do and hope for the best. Maybe make a run for it again the second he had the chance. "Iron defense." He hissed as he released Perrserker, and then: "Fury swipes." The feline dashed for the Metagross, lashing out with its claws.

There was likely no way he'd ever live with himself after this. Was it worth it for a modicum of acknowledgement from Rocket elite? Was it worth it to prove himself right about being a monster? Probably not. Nothing was worth hurting the only person who had ever stopped to help him up after he'd fallen. Wren had always deserved better than him and this proved that. Beneath the mask, he winced as Stella went down.

The anger on Wren's face would always be burned into the back of his mind, a reminder of his utter failure as a friend. The slightest possibility of being found out would ruin everything. However, maybe then he'd finally be free to be the person he seemed hellbent on becoming. Maybe Wren was his weakness, the thing he hated most in the world. The same thing that had plagued the man he'd battled before. Weakness.

In his distraction, Perrserker was hit head on then by the gogoat's bulldoze. The feline yowled in pain, thrashing about as it forced itself back up. Levy recalled him then, to preserve his strength before the gogoat could strike him down for good. Then, he released centiskorch. The fiery insect hissed before lashing out on its own with a devilish INFERNO. It was always a risk to bring out Centiskorch, who rarely wanted to do as he ordered, but its attacks were still impressive.

The strangled edge in that cry made his throat close up. That pain, it was his fault. He asked for it. His actions hurt people, what a simple fucking concept yet it was like a knife between the ribs right then. The power he'd felt before felt diluted and constricted, twisted up with the guilt he felt. It didn't make sense, he should have felt nothing right then. The other man was too weak to take care of his pokemon or protect his people. That meant he had to pay for it, right? Levy didn't have sympathy for people that couldn't stand behind their beliefs. Yet...

Did that mean he needed to become a monster in the process? What would Wren think of him right then? He'd hate him. He'd take whatever measure to get as far away from this version of Levy as he could, surely. But Wren wasn't here, so...

"Learn from this..." He muttered, whether or not it was heard didn't matter. It was a pitiful excuse to justify it. He'd had moments where abusers tried to cover their actions as educating him and he was doing the same thing. He'd live with it though, he had to. The other man looked back at him at him and he could only tilt his head, owlish and taunting. So be it.

The hatred seemed to seep into the atmosphere. It felt like a palpable force. Maybe he was entirely too natural about clipping away every little string of composure, probably because he himself had struggled at the expense of greater forces. Whatever internal battle the other man was waging, he was losing. It felt good, admittedly, almost like finally making up for his own weakness. Years of his own inability to take control and conquer his own insurmountable flaws. All of it at the expense of this guy.

Starmie made another pained response as the curse continued to eat away at its health. It was still just enough to keep going, enough time for him to strike back with POWER GEM once more before it was struck with NIGHT SHADE. The star pokemon, weakened by the curse, took the brunt of the attack and fainted. Returning the Starmie to its ball, he released Perrserker from his pokeball. There was no knowing how much fight the other man still had in him. It was inconvenient, and yet, necessary. Maybe he was getting too cocky, but maybe for once he was beginning to feel confident.

Perrserker was not a patient sort and acted of his own accord. Levy hadn't yet trained him to better follow orders. Thus, when the pokemon burst from the ball, it raced toward his opponent with FURY SWIPES.

It didn't mean anything to him, until it did. Even after everything he'd already done to the person before this and to everyone before him too... suddenly, all of his actions were under a microscope. He tried not to flinch, seeing the pain inflicted on the Umbreon. The stink of blood mixing in with the smoke from the buildings around them as claw rent fur aside and the vulpine shrieked in pain.

The bite was fatalistic and with a soundless whisper of pain, Shedinja fell unconscious to the ground. Levy grimaced from beneath the mask before returning the husk pokemon to its pokeball. In reality, he could simply choose not to fight. That was an option. He could choose not to bring out another pokemon, knowing that Wren would likely never be the person to attack anyone. Or was that changed now? He was a different person at this moment, after all. Still, he didn't think Wren capable of attacking someone who had no pokemon and stood relatively unarmed.

Yet he couldn't do that, it would be too strange. A rocket unwilling to fight? His actions were already bizarre enough as it was. He let perrserker out, "Iron head." The feline burst from the pokeball, launching itself at the Umbreon with a burst of speed in a collision course. As long as he pulled this off, nothing had changed. Right now, he was a different person and Wren didn't know any better, right? He could work with that. Swallow up the regret and stave off the self-hatred he felt afterwards. He was a liar and a bully, but he could live with that.

Vitriol thundered from the other man, anger lashing like a tangible force of nature. It was like looking in a mirror of himself years ago, feral with all the anger he held for the world. He was still angry, but he'd changed. He'd learned to become the hunter, the predator, rather than the prey. He couldn't understand at the time, why people did what they did. But he understood now, it made them feel powerful.

It also made him feel a little sick. It was so easy, wasn't it? He used to be afraid of change, but the truth was it was nearly effortless. "To be filled with so much rage and yet be so weak. It's a little pitiful actually."

The curse struck true, making the Starmie thrash in silent pain. It wouldn't have much time before the curse finished it off. "Starmie, hydro pump." He hissed in response, not looking at the pain visible on its rigid form. After another shudder, the starfish pokemon let loose a jet of water aimed for the Gengar.

A serious eevee? He nearly laughed at that, but remained quiet and passive, not wanting to scare the poor terrorized creature. It was obvious she enjoyed being around Juno, so it just seemed better to keep the two together, but he was not going to object to the gift. Levy nodded at that, with a little smile. "Okay, I'll take care of her, I promise." It made a warm funny feeling twist up in his gut. Wren had thought of him for this task. He believed in him, even if Levy didn't believe in himself.

"Minerva, I like it." Juno and Minerva, it was cute. "Can nickname her Minnie." He was not very good at names so he laughed at this one, thinking it was pretty dumb. Levy could feel that there was still something between them. It was a strange, confusing tension that made Levy admittedly a little scared. Wren didn't make a habit of being somber or tense. Though he had a habit of mixed feelings and confusing signals that had taken years for Levy to read.

"Don't want me to hate you? Wren, what are you talking about — I could never hate you." His brow furrowed in confusion at that. Once again Wren's attention fell away, babbling under whatever pressure what currently building up in him. "Wren, please... just tell me. You're kinda scaring me here." Was it really that bad? Was the eevee a distraction to hide something horrible? Levy could feel his gut twist up further, on the brim of dropping entirely. It made him feel a little sick.

It wasn't going to happen though, he could see the resolve in the other's face. It was beyond bizarre seeing Wren in this light, looking at him in a way that was warmth and bright. Instead the expression aimed on him was cold and far fiercer than he every would have imagined in the other. He deserved this though, didn't he? There was no room for complaining when he brought this on himself.

Levy had a choice though — as much as he wanted to play innocent. He could easily choose to back away. He could even choose to remove the mask, reveal himself. There was no explanation for this, however, not one he wanted to give to Wren though. There was always the chance he'd understand, but Levy was not one for gambling. Not with his closest friend.

"So be it," He murmured, barely audible. The second time that day and yet this time with far less resolution. Venom seeped out of Wren's mouth as he spoke, in a way that made ice form in Levy's veins. This wasn't right at all. How could he have caused this. Umbreon struck out at the Shedinja with a critical strike. The husk pokemon shuddered under the impact. Leave it to Wren to easily get past the wonder guard. Levy sighed then, shaking his head. Regardless of who this was, he was not prepared to lose yet. He was still there for a reason.

"Metal claw," This time when the Shedinja struck out, it was not with intent to threaten, but strike true.

The smog did as intended, though it wouldn't have been a usual tactic of his. At some point, it'd become easier to use these methods. His first instinct was to get the fight over and done with as soon as possible. Yet that didn't mean he could afford to be impatient and sloppy. He watched as the golbat was called out, air slash cutting through the remains of the smog. Salandit flinched, knocked around a little by the sharp currents.

Levy called him back, it was better to call him back before he got to the point of fainting. They were a long way away from the end of this battle, and even farther from the end of this day. This is what you signed on for, he reminded himself whenever he felt the slightest ounce of regret.

He released Starmie next. The star pokemon spun in the air, turning to face their opponents. "I'm disappointed, I'd hope your anger would make you a good fight, but maybe this place isn't worth that much to you." Anger wasn't a good weapon though, he knew that from personal experience. "Starmie, power gem." Starmie spun once more before a beam of incandescent light was launched at the opposing Golbat.

Better keep you around as long as I can. Levy felt a soft warmth fill him up. He felt dizzy with the notion of that, wanting so bad for that longevity to last forever. Keep me forever, but that's not what Wren meant. He had big places to be in life, far away from him. Maybe if he was smarter, he'd pack up and go with him. Yet that too felt like he was crowding the other's life. Wren may not have realized it, but he put a lot of things on hold for Levy.

If Wren sought a destiny away from Levy, maybe there was a reason for that. He wished he'd not set his drink on the floor, away from where he could grab it. Maybe then he could form the liquid courage to do something. As he tilted to look at Wren, he only really realized then how close they were. It made his breath stifle a little, which wasn't due to the discomfort of close proximity like it might have been otherwise.

"Might have to, if they're mean to you... of course." He had to clarify so that he might not be seen for wanting, or longing too much. Whether or not his wants were tied to the other's company or more than that, truthfully, Levy didn't know. He'd never felt any specific way about anyone. He'd never even genuinely kissed anyone before.

“You’d lose all culture and refinement, go back to eating like animals.” He shook his head with a huff of laughter. It was nice, sitting there as they were. Sure, they could have done this at his flat. Granted, the effort had been in getting Levy out, so maybe that was a job well done on Wren’s part.

There was an overwhelming need to draw his fingers through the blonde hair that rested on his shoulder. Instead, awkwardly, his hands rested in his lap without the luxury of a pillow to hug in distraction. Maybe they were both struggling with the same underlying symptoms of this unfathomable predicament, but Levy doubted it. Wren’s life seemed so much fuller than his own, so how could he expect one so bright to diminish that for him.

There he was again, cutting himself short, but for this he was at least certain in his pessimism. Either way, it felt kind of wrong to want that out of their relationship. “No way, when it happens, it’ll be a complete surprise.” If only he could steal him away, things hadn’t felt right since Wren left. He could play it off or pretend for the other’s good, but he knew the truth.

Levy was a little surprised by that offer, tilting a little to get a better glimpse of the other. “You sure?” He paused at that, looking back ahead. He didn’t know why he felt so coy about it. “Yeah, I’d like that.”

There was pain in @viole that he'd felt in himself many times before. Yet all he could manage to do was step all over him. Maybe he was worse than the people that used to hurt him. Somehow, it felt necessary. His own anger had made him stronger, so really… he was doing the guy a favor, right?

“H-hey, wait! Juno don’t-” The voice cut through the noise — through all of the destruction and the fighting. It cut him right down to the core and he felt himself freeze. Instinctively, he tugged at the hem of the hood, looking up only to reaffirm his immediate fear.

No. No no no no. What was he doing here? Wren wasn’t supposed to be here. Then again, neither was he. What idiot thought it was a good idea to bring wren rourke to a battle? The other stood out starkly from the blaze and the pain and the smoke. Too soft, too good. A light burning in a place that only wanted to swallow him up.

His eyes dropped down to Juno, the bristle of her fur in confusion. This was not how he was found out. He needed more time to explain. The only security he had right then was that Salandit wasn’t out to ruin his cover and the majority of his others were newer or simply didn’t care to play nice. So, what was he prepared to do, fight him? Was he really prepared to fight his best friend? No, he wasn’t going to do that. This wasn’t part of the plan. An acidic taste climbed up his throat. He felt sick to his stomach. Still, he remained silent, staring at the other as his mind worked a way out of this actual nightmare of a situation.

Without thinking further, he released Shedinja. The husk pokemon hovered over the ground between them, impervious and unaffected. "Leave." He hissed, attempting to change his voice as much as possible. He'd never talked to Wren like that before. Without order, the pokemon lashed out at the ground between it and the eevee with a single FURY SWIPE — a barely suppressed threat. Levy tilted his head in question, almost asking what he planned to do about it? In reality, he was begging him to leave him alone.

Levy smiled at that, even if a pessimistic part of him wanted to immediately deny that. One thing he’d come to realize over the years, was that he had to retrain his thoughts. It was so inherent for him to disregard or belittle himself, but Wren had taught him otherwise. It was alright to believe in good in other people (especially Wren). He didn’t need to go and cut himself short all the time. “I knew you were hopeless without my poetic quotes.”

Wren’s head rested perfectly in the curve of his neck and, instinctively, Levy let his own head rest in turn atop the other’s. It was such small and yet prominent affection that he couldn’t imagine going without it again. Maybe he’d grown a little too comfortable with having Wren, but no one could fill the space beside him except for the blonde.

That didn’t keep him from feeling a little jealous because the truth was Levy hadn’t really met anyone. Not really. Rocket was a job, it was a collection of like-minded and usually terrible people. That was all. The one thing it offered Levy was a purpose he’d long since been floundering on. “Yep, already drawn one up.” He snorted at that though he’d never try to take Wren away from what he’d been dreaming of doing. “Uhh yeah… class and around…” Maybe not too convincing, though only half a lie. They were around. It wasn’t like he could just tell Wren that he’d joined an organization that rangers were systematically opposed to. Maybe one day, but not today.
