[attr="class","samjermain"]The wind picked up in the face of the Beartic, louder than it had been before. Ghost’s appreciation of her reflexes was ignored in favor of facing down the great, white beast.

Like Thalia, Jayce was fearless, though hers was more of a casual indifference than poised bravery.

Ghost’s Fletchling joins the fray just as the Beartic launched itself at them, swiping at them with a powerful slash. In response, Jayce wound up her hammer, swinging it like a baseball bat. Her slam met the Beartic’s paw and completely redirected it, causing the beast to spin around on one foot in the snow.

While its back was turned, she fired off a flash cannon straight between its shoulder blades.

“Knocked out is about as calm as you can get,” Thalia said with a wry smile.

The knowledge of what lies beneath, the structures and variations of the ground and the ground beneath the ground.

“My price for goods is fair,” she says, in the firm, self-assured tone of a businessperson who knows what they are about, “but information… whispers… are frequently more difficult to grasp.” Her hips cant forward, a press of her lower body against his own, a split-half second of contact. “The more difficult the prey, the higher the fee.”

In their sway, her head leans in, close enough to feel his breath.

WINTER MASQUERADE [Holiday Event]

[attr="class","samjermain"]She would be remiss to neglect an appearance at Hoenn’s biggest event of the year-- even if no one knew who she was. Maybe it was better this way.

Thalia slipped through the crowd, most of them having gathered to view the unveiling of the museum’s grand exhibits. Wrought in flowing gold with a mask to match, her long fire-red hair slipped freely about her shoulders.

It was nice to pretend she was amongst people she didn’t know. A whole palace full of strangers.

Most of the attentions drew towards the Terastal exhibit, which made Thalia roll her eyes. In Paldea one couldn’t walk a mile without stumbling upon a cavern full of Tera-energy, and a Pokemon warped to match. But it was still a novelty, here in Hoenn; perhaps, to keep up appearances, she should go with the rest of them and let her jaw drop in kind.

She stepped out of the way of a gaggle of young children attending the soiree on the arm of their guardian-- most likely a relative, on account of their having the same exact color hair. Despite her determination to remain above the sway of the thralls of Hoenn, she can’t fight down the sudden pang of envy that swells within her.

It’s a nigh-Pavlovian thing, happens every time she sees an apparently happy family.

Swiping a crystal glass from a nearby tray, she drowns the figment of human emotion, and tracks over to the Nautica exhibit, to see what treasure’s she missed out on.

Thalia was oft a frequenter of locales like this, though rarely solo. Whether it was wining and dining potential clients for expedition funds or swapping stories with her rowdy and raucous crew, she knew her way around a good many bars.

But with most of the Dawnhunters still in Paldea, and the rest of them scattered to the winds hunting monsters and chasing relics, all she had in Hoenn was little, old her.

Well. And her family. But she’d die before she went to them seeking companionship.

She was no stranger to drinking alone. But it wasn’t nearly as fun as drinking together. And she was in the mood to make new friends.

Double-fisting zombies she slid into the open seat of a corner booth-- she’d targeted them by the color of their hair-- and gave its sole occupant her friendliest smile.

“You all right? You look like you’re about to jump out of your skin. No one’s going to bite you.” She drank from her glass, wrinkling her nose at the sweetness-- much more so than she’s typically used to. “Unless you want them to, of course.”

The waters push a bedraggled, wet teapot up on shore. She almost misses it, except for Breakers pointing it out with a nudge of his shovel.

“Ah. A Houndstone. Nice catch.” She similarly throws a Pokeball at the Polteageist. “I don’t imagine you’d find them in Hoenn if not for the massive spatial rends in the fabric of the universe. Did Rocket do those or was it a joint effort?”

“Well, I won’t be taking no for an answer. I came all this way. We’re going to chase shooting stars.”

[attr="class","samjermain"]Little did he know, the unsuspecting stranger-- who introduced himself as Ghost, which had Thalia’s mouth quirking up in an ironic smile, because wasn’t that funny?-- was actually doing more harm than good. Distracted as she was with admonishing his interloping, she didn’t hear the telltale crush and crack of undergrowth until it was almost too late.

She lunged forward and grabbed Ghost’s wrist, dragging him out of the way of the rampaging Beartic before it could disembowl him with a swipe of its massive claws.

“That is what I’m doing out here,” she said, rolling Jayce’s Pokeball over her palm and calling the Tinkatuff forward with a burst of light.

“Suffice to say I’m disappointed.”

Breakers hurls a shadow ball at a lurking Mismagius, blowing the Ghost-type to purple shreds of fog. When it comes back together again, Thalia throws a Pokeball.

[attr="class","samjermain"]Callan calls for another round and makes a point of staring at her. Thalia dips her chin, smiling expectantly; after a moment, her gaze flits away, then back again, as though waiting for the ball to drop.

“Many things, Mr. Young,” she says, turning in her stool to face him. “My family is here, after all. I grew up here. But most importantly…” one elbow on the bar, she rests her cheek against her fist.

“...I have to be a woman of… many talents, in my line of work. But I am, first and foremost, an adventure seeker.”

The bartender brings their drinks and Thalia pushes her long, red tresses over one shoulder, wraps her slim fingers around the glass.

“I always have been. I just wasn’t aware of it. Which is why I was so… unfulfilled before I left for Paldea. I didn’t realize the greatest adventures were right in front of me, the entire time. So I have returned to rectify that condition.”

Hoenn was a region of many things, good and ill. Her definition of which was which most likely differed from the average person.
