Both him and the Absol couldn’t help but roll their eyes at what they were witnessing from the other human who let the Froakie fight on his own… what the hell-ass even was that supposed to be?

Scoffing slightly, she didn’t let the taunting faze her even as she took a direct hit straight to the face from the little Froakie… there really were some things that could not be done without getting one’s hands dirty.

“Cordy, you’re definitely better than that!” he called from his side of the stage.

“Show ‘em your finesse and grace!”

With those words, she was bolstered enough to attempt landing a surprise Sucker Punch on the Froakie.

He chuckled despite the bell signifying the start of the round.

“Honestly I don’t know what close species Absol can be called, but I think she took that as a compliment!” he called from his side of the ring while Cordy herself eyed the strange… robotic cross of a Gardevoir and a Gallade.

(Cordy could tell, because she frequently worked alongside a Gardevoir and knew what they looked like in general.)

As the first attack came spinning forward, the Dark-type took a deep breath, before centering herself—and attempting to block the incoming attack with a Night Slash of her own!

Okay, to be fair he was not expecting the black-colored Tauros to know a… whoa.

Holy hellballs on a stick, w h o a how was that possible?! Dang, was that like the ‘Alolan variant’ Pokémon he was familiar with?

He’d been staring at the sudden Water-type move he didn’t notice that his Absol had already gotten clobbered by the surprise attack. Shaking off the water from her fur, she then moved to strike back with a surprise Psycho Cut, an attempt to throw the strange Tauros off-balance!

Now, if she got hit by that oddly-colored Tauros she’d be in for it!

“Be careful, Cordy!” he called from his side of the field as he watched the Dark-type Pokémon take a deep breath, before brandishing her head-horn like a sword before lashing out with a surprise Night Slash attack!

Hopefully, this would throw the incoming opponent off-balance, at the very least!

And then the sudden burst of water caught the Absol by surprise—whoa, that was terrifying!

…and now she was soaked from head to toe!

“Cordy, don’t lose your temper!” he called out as the Dark-type shook her fur out; the better to dry it somewhat before changing tactics and then barreling forward with a surprise Psycho Cut attack towards the flightly little Froakie!

Oh, this was going to be another problem—the belated realization that the Poochyena was also a Dark-type so this was going to be, indeedy, one hell of a climb if he wanted to pull out a win from… somewhere.

“Cordy, let’s go!” he cheered the Absol on as she got ready with her preferred starting move—a Swords Dance in preparation for the slugfest that was coming in the next few moments!

Another match within the same day—how many more was he scheduled for? He had to take a few minutes to rest, because holy shit so many fights were starting to blur together.

“Yeah, that would be me. Call me Jack,” he nodded as he shook the other man’s hand.

“Good luck to the both of us, huh?” he chuckled as his Absol nodded her head in greeting in the Pikachu’s direction.

Belatedly, he wondered what gimmick his opponent was packing… hopefully it wasn’t that one-shot move that exploded and required a damned-ass pose to execute!

The next attack would come in swinging—and this time, it was much more painful than the earlier version of it—

“Ouch,” he cringed quietly as the Absol had gotten pummeled upside the face; because ouch that really did hurt a lot!

“Hang in there, Cordy!” he called out to her, clenching his fists in worry as she was quick to try and smack back with a surprise Sucker Punch attack.

Hopefully that worked, otherwise they would be in very hot water…

Who knew the funny hat made all the difference at a time like this?

Now that the Beedrill had reverted back to their base form, and she was still whizzing around thanks to the funny balloons, the Absol then decided to take the step forward and aimed another Night Slash coming from the horn right at the Beedrill!

“Come on, Cordy! We got this!” he continued cheering from his side of the field; because holy shit this was a close match!

He was trying so hard not to burst out laughing because the commentary was turning it into a ladies’ night out gone wrong and he couldn’t help but duck down for a few moments to actually let the wheezing noise of mirth escape him before he straightened up to hear that he was declared the winner of this round.

“Thanks for the commentary!” he wheezed over at the commentator’s table, before recalling his Absol and giving a two-handed salute his opponent’s way.

“Nice match, yo. Even if the commentating went silly after a while,” he laughed.

Seeing as there was hopefully one way out of this, she took the attack head-on… before releasing a surprise Sucker Punch at the Beedrill; no way she was going to get her ass messed up this early!

He couldn’t help but snicker at the commentator’s remarks about how this had basically devolved into a slap fight between two ladies of the same species—because that was what it was!

The chuckle escaped him.

“I swear, if they were kids they’d be slapping themselves silly!” he cackled as his own Absol, unfazed by what happened; really got into the thick of things—by swinging out her horn one more time.

If that’s what she wanted, then it was going to be a ~~death~~ slapfight via Night Slash they were going to get!

“Damn, man, no need to lose your chill,” he blinked from his side of the field. Heck, even his Absol was just… reeling at this point.

He took out his recently ‘renovated’ tome where a certain part sparkled and was ready to chuck it across the arena; but now was not the time. Instead, he would flip it open and start making actual notes in it.

“You know what? Getting drunk on delusions of grandeur doesn’t suit you,” he continued with this unfazed stare as he recalled his Absol who had pretty much tipped over and was considered to be ‘knocked out’ as per the rules of the match.

“Might want to cool your head a lil’ bit.”
