Bonus of the entire matter was that there was a local farm not too far from Verdanturf that was down a few shepherds, and were looking for people who had herding-capable Pokémon that could help out for one afternoon while they got their affairs in order.

So of course, mister meme lord Jackie here jumped at the chance.

What he was not expecting, however, was the fact that he would be surrounded by an indescribable amount of Wooloo that called this rather expansive farm home.

Oh, but couldn’t he take one of them home at least? Give Lis and the others a new sibling to take care of?! He could only sigh at this point.

So here he was with his eternally useless Yamper, Sumi, trying to get her ass into gear because why was she not moving?!

Which was why the Absol never took her eyes off the little Poochyena. She knew better than to just rush in recklessly—however, if they stayed still too long the people might start wondering if they were just having a staredown contest!

So, she had to take the next step forward, before releasing a surprise Night Slash from the head-horn that she had.

Just to startle, to see what reaction she’ll get from the canine…

As luck would have it, he would make the trip to Meteor Falls, riding on the rumors that there was a place deep within these sacred grounds that could grant a wish… or something along those lines.

Either way, fact of the matter was that he was here to check out the rumors, and wanted in on this too! Even if it was just a little ol’ tale stirred up by people who had a certain belief that the place could grant one wish, well…

He was accompanied by his strange new companion, the literal embodiment of living thunder. He knew right from the get-go that keeping them cooped up was a bad idea, and so let them run around as much as possible because holy crap on a cracker, if left alone long enough they could wreck an entire house.

(Sometimes he was glad he didn’t have a permanent place to call home, then and there!)

Either way, the two—Pokémon and human—would find their way down here and walk up to the bell…

And ring it.

He was hoping that the Tauros would realize what he was up against—to his surprise though, the match-ending bell rang and he was declared the winner—

Wait, what?

“Whoa, hey!” he exclaimed as his Absol ducked around the exploding confetti to return back to his side, ready to fall over.

“You had a really nice Tauros!” he exclaimed from his side of the field. “Let me know where you found ‘em, I’m curious!” he added before realizing—

“Good fight, good fight! Good luck with your battles!” he added a few moments later as the field was cleared out for the next match.

Eww, that tongue coming out of nowhere was gross! Either way…

The Absol made to step aside, before trying to catch the Froakie with a surprise Night Slash once more—and then he realized that shit was about to hit the fan unless he could pull a win out from somewhere!

Come on, come on, come on! he thought frantically as the Absol continued to keep her stare on the Froakie; in case the Water-type decided to do something to catch her off-guard.

Alright, so he thought his match with Gwyar Wledig was going to be the last match he would take. However…

He found himself back on the stage once more; and his Absol just ended up giving him this ‘I thought we were finished?!’ look and he had to hold both his hands up in apology.

“Look, look, I know! S-sorry! It’s just that—” he exclaimed, trying to apologize before said Absol huffed his way and paced around his side of the field like a cat.

“Th-this will be the last match, I swear!”

Uh-oh!

While the Absol’s attack did land a solid strike, this only served to infuriate the bull Pokémon; as signified by the loud roaring as it tried to gore at her with its horns.

“Whoa, Cordy! Careful there!” he called from his side of the field; fists clenching and hoping that she would be able to get the hell out of there—

Of course she would; with a surprise Sucker Punch; hopefully the raging bull would snap out of it!

…or not, depending on how this landed.

See, the thing here about Pikachu was—

There was an entire valley of them in the region that he called home, Alola—however, try as he might to understand the appeal of why Pikachu were popular, he would inexplicably be drawn to Wooloo instead!

(Even if Wooloo were not native to Alola. Could you blame him?!)

“Cordy, let’s go!” he cheered from his side of the field as the Absol then made ready with a Psycho Cut attack; aiming to either knock the Pikachu off-balance or to send it flying across the arena!

He couldn’t help but laugh at the ‘dynamic entry!!!’ that the Corviknight had made, gravel splattering everywhere the moment they came in for the three-point landing from the skies above.

“No worries, you ain’t late, we just got here ourselves,” he waved off the other man’s arrival with a grin. “Name’s Jack, and—”

Before they could exchange any more words, the bell rung; signifying the start of the match!

This time, while he was not usually one to take the offensive, the Absol would begin the prep work by getting ready with a Swords Dance to raise the fighting spirit, eyes never leaving the avianid Pokémon’s line of sight.

No, he knew Psycho Cut was going to be useless; because from the looks of things, this Samurott wasn’t… well, it wasn’t the Unovan kind that’s for sure!

He had to take quick mental notes while keeping an eye on the battle; his Absol not showing any fear on her face as she took the blows in stride—before lashing out with one final Night Slash—

This would decide the entire match, this one final blow…!

Okay, so he told himself he was going to—

He couldn’t help it, this would be his last match for the entire tournament! Or so he hoped.

He just wanted the biggest prize, and when he did get his hands on said biggest prize, he would just watch the rest of the matches from the sidelines, so there was that…

His Absol was already pacing on her side of the field, so who would show up and humor them with a battle? He watched, and waited…
