Today, however, was going to be different—

“No hard feelings, yo?” he called out to the poor unfortunate soul that was seated on the dunk tank, before picking up the baseball, winding up, and letting it fly!

Now that he’d gotten his Mareanie under some semblance of control—which involved a really stern talking-to—he then turned his attention to the Mantyke who was splashing around happily.

“Okay, so let’s not mind the Mareanie—she’s a real piece of work,” he chuckled quietly as he kept his eye on the small Water-type.

While he knew that the Mantyke was still too small to ride for now, when they evolved into a Mantine that’s when shit would really begin for him at least.

He was still sad that there was no Mantine Surfing this year, after hearing of how big an event it was the previous year…

The Mareanie then approached, holding something in—

“What is that?” he blinked, as the Mareanie used her… hair… to hand what she’d found to him.

Hilariously for Jack, this Jack right here?

He was hopelessly lost in the house of Mirrors. Whoops!

To be fair, hed had another rogue Wooloo situation on his hands, which involved Lis of all things—and to make matters worse? Sumi the Yamper was now chasing circles around him rather than trying to help the situation at hand!

“Geez, what even am I going to do with you, Sumi,” he grumbled as he pressed the flat of his palms into his eyes. The reflective surfaces were only making things worse for him.

His Mareanie was picking on the poor Mantyke as they were playing out in the surf—geezus, why was that particular Pokémon of his so aggressive?!

“Don’t pick on the kid, I swear! No play time for you if you keep doing that!”

He sighed. Geez, if she was like this as a Mareanie now, what more would it be like when she evolved into a Toxapex?!

At least the Mantyke had managed to find something today, swimming over to him while holding something in her mouth.

Funnily enough, he’d actually forgotten to bring his own Mantine along, so that shot down any plans of practicing to surf this year.

…however, he had a Mantyke, although it was kind of small.

“Yeah, I don’t think I’ll be getting any ride practice, you’re too small,” he mused quietly as he watched his Mantyke and his Mareanie waddle around in the surf as he snapped the goggles on once more.

Understandably, the Alolan here was more than a little ‘smad’ when he found out there was no Mantine Surfing this year.

“Boo,” he said quietly once he was done applying sunblock all over his arms and legs. At least it was legions better than picking up Pyukumuku and yeeting them back into the ocean…

“Oh well, there’s always next year for surfing.”

Damn, he missed those days.

With a snap of the goggles down, he picked a quiet part of the beach (hidden by some rocks), left his bucket there and took a dive into the water.

What wonders would he find down here?

Another message found its way into his phone’s Inbox, so with a few swipes, he cracked a grin. The Yamper that was running in useless circles around his feet looked up, tongue lolling out one side of his mouth.

“Hm? Sumi, what?” he asked the yellow Pokémon absently. Was there something on her mind, too?

The canid Pokémon would not relent, still running in silly circles around him as he threw his hands up in mock celebration before continuing on to their rendezvous point—

Okay, to be fair.

How in the hell was a Tyrantrum going to fit in here?!

Either way, somehow, the overly-large Pokémon had somehow managed to fit in the tunnel—albeit at a very tight fit, mind—and had already watched a Lycanroc and… a literal walking salt tower… do their thing.

So the next thing was his, right?

Shuffling backwards a bit, he then took a deep breath and then Roared. Even though normally the force of the Roar was enough to repel wild Pokémon; in this instance it actually plucked several stray, weird, flower-looking Pokémon (the Glimmora, not that Jack knew their proper name) and drifted away to join their brethren already looking for a new place to roost.

Oh, god.

See, the thing is—when one has a memory that’s nearly infallible such as him due to his line of work, one tends to remember things.

A lot of things.

For he himself was carrying the proof that what happened in Hammerlocke was all too real—his notebook. Yes, the very same one he travelled with, was now littered with as much information as he sought fit to scratch down in it.

(This included the drawings of the ruined tapestries, for one. The legend of Hammerlocke, for another. And then… the rest of the pages… were taken up by even more notes. Small, idyllic details that he took note of during those twenty years.)

He still couldn’t get over how his hair had gone blonde, though…

A chuckle escaped him as he saw a message slide into his phone’s inbox.

‘Heading to your location now, will join you shortly.’

He was accompanied by his Yamper, Sumi, who was running in useless circles around him.
