She'd slipped up. [break][break]

In her worry and fear she'd made a mistake. Spoke too much that was on her mind. Of course it would draw attention to her. She sighed and ran her fingers through her orange locks. She didn't like actively lying to Nikolaj like this. It made her feel dirty. Besides, she seen what a lack of trust could do in a relationship, she didn't want that for her self. [break][break]

Camila had long since promised that she'd be better. Better than her. Stronger too. That being said, her strength would come into focus when she protected her family. Squeezing her hands into fists she looked down at her lap. "Maybe we'll be okay for now." she started, refusing to meet her husbands gaze. [break][break]

"But how long will we have that peace? You've seen the sort of things that happen in this region. It's full of uncertainty. Anything could happen at any time. You and I know that better than anyone." she was referencing how they had to cope with their impending doom when the meteor had been about to strike.[break][break]

Camila shakily clasped her hands together. "I thought I was fine. I thought our new life here filled with happy memories would make me forget about my past but...it's still there. It never left. We just ran from it but it's still a problem left unresolved and I can't help but to worry..." she trailed off. [break][break]

All this was true. Camila was still often plagued by nightmares from her past that always seemed to haunt her. Not wanting to draw attention to herself or to cause Nikolaj to worry. Ever since she'd joined Rocket she'd been suffering from these restless nights. And while she could reveal the entire truth she could relay a part. [break][break]

"I'm sorry." she whispered.

As she held her daughter in her arms all the worries and fears that she'd been holding onto ever since her daughter left to return to her homeland faded away. Even the pent up feelings from the dome appearing and locking them all in place here in Hoenn. Having her child back safely in her arms was the breath of fresh air she needed. In fact, it felt like this entire time she'd been holding her breath and was only allowed to exhale now that Saskia was here. [break][break]

"mamachka," she breathed and Camila gave her a squeeze. She could've stayed here with her like this forever. For as far as Camila was concerned the cares of the world around them melted away as soon as she had her daughter in her sights. Their affectionate reunion was interrupted by the placeholder in Camila's hand going off. [break][break]

Saskia pulled away first and Camila reluctantly allowed her. However the laugh from her daughter quickly wiped the slight pout that had settled on Camila's features away in an instant. "aw, awesome. that means our table's ready?" Steel blue hues peered down at the device in her hand. "I suppose so." she said with a smile before holding out a free hand for her daughter to take hold. "Let's go see what they have for us. You can tell me all about your travels on the way in."

"Now nothing," Kolya responded curtly. Camila felt her jaw tighten but she said nothing. Her husband gently nudged her to the side and she obliged as she watched him now rise to his feet. "So what if James' sons are here in Hoenn? It doesn't mean anything for us. They don't know we're here or even who we are."[break][break]

That might be true for now, but if living in Hoenn for the past twenty years had taught her anything it was that the only constant in life was change. Here in this region things could change in a moment, in a fraction of a second. Sure they might be fine now but for how long? Especially considering the position Camila was in. [break][break]

Her lips pressed into an even firmer line as she cast her gaze down to the floor. Her hands balled into fists so tightly at her side that her knuckles turned white. She knew this, but the concern and fear where still there. And she couldn't tell her husband about it. "It's not..." Camila muttered softly before taking Kolya's place sitting at the table. [break][break]

She felt a headache coming on as she bent over and pinched the bridge of her nose. "I'm afraid it's not that simple." Camila was reminded of the initial fear she felt when she found out she was pregnant. Their past wasn't anything to play with. She'd worked so hard to try and heal and overcome the scars that her past had left her with. But as she sat her with all those feelings rushing back to her, she couldn't help but feel all the progress she thought she made was barely any progress made at all.

Despite the guilt she felt over this, as ridiculous as that might be, and the emptiness from the sudden loss, that was all that Camila could bring herself to feel in the moment. She wasn't that close to James if she was being honest. The extent of their relationship was straight business. [break][break]

Outside of seeing him at the clinic to patch him up, she didn't have much interaction with him. He was Kolya's friend after all. And above that the man was dangerous. She wasn't in the habit of hanging around dangerous men. Putting the fact that she married one aside. Still, whatever Kolya was feeling right now Cami knew she needed to support him through it. She was sure this was quite jarring to say the least.[break][break]

Camila didn't say much, instead just offering a comforting embrace as she rhythmically ran her fingers gently through Nikolaj's hair. "That's not all," Kolya spoke, his voice piercing through the silence that had enveloped them. He lifted his head to look up at Cami while she shifted to gently caress his face instead. All the while giving him her undivided attention. [break][break]

"James' sons are here in Hoenn. Plural. I didn't know he had more than one." Cami's brow creased as steel blue pools stared down at her husband. "More than one? And here? Of all places?" she echoed before her mouth pressed in a firm line. If she was honest, Camila wasn't too thrilled to know that more and more pieces of the life they had strategically left behind in Sinnoh was now following them here in their new home.[break][break]

She felt threatened enough with Rocket on her back desiring her husband's services. She was doing everything in her power to placate them all while keeping secrets from her beloved. It tore her up inside. And now this. Her frown deepened as she thought about their daughter returning home. With her return Camila's resolve to protect her loved ones was strengthened. So now there was only one question on her mind. "What now? What does this mean?" she asked after a long pause.

Camila was running late today because one of her appointments had run over it's scheduled end time. That then created a train reaction with the rest of her appointments and completely made her late for the rest of her tasks for today. But such was the life of a doctor. She'd dealt with numerous setbacks like these before. [break][break]

Today she was handling checkups and consultations for Rocket here on the submarine. It was always better to handle offical offical Rocket business far away from her home. She didn't want to take any chances of people running into her family. Arceus knows she wouldn't even know how to begin to explain herself to and right now. [break][break]

Her overseer, , had recommended this meeting for her despite the fact that she'd been a part of Rocket for a while now. Her entry into the fold was much different than other's but Elisabeth figured this would be a good chance for her to get connected with some of the brighter minds in the organization.[break][break]

Despite being reluctant to doing any of this, Camila did agree with branching out and putting her hands to use elsewhere. If she performed exceptionally then perhaps she could reduce the time she was required to stay her. The sooner she could give them what they wanted the sooner she could leave and Rocket could finally leave her family alone once and for all.[break][break]

Her heels clicked on the floor as she walked with haste towards her appointed meeting spot. She spied a couple of people already there in the distance and conversing. As she closed the distance between them she slowed down and fluffed her hair. A last minute check to make sure that she was presentable. "Sorry for running late." she spoke up when there was a lull in the conversation. "One of my meetings ran long." she said with a pause before gently gesturing to herself. "I'm Doctor Camila."

"It's acute and happens at random times of the day. There's no pattern. Actually, I think I've been feeling it for a long time now. Years," Nikolaj clarified for her which made her frown deepen. If he'd been feeling this way for years why the hell hadn't he said anything to her until now? Instead of doing as she ordered he grabbed her wrist and pulled her in close before wrapping his arm around her waist. [break][break]

"Usually when I see you lounging around the house all cute, or when you smile or laugh," he finally admitted to his joke with a slow cheeky grin spreading across his face. "I fucking knew it." Cami cursed at him before slapping his arm. She half laughed half sighed in relief before shaking her head at him. It was a relief to know this was just a joke, nothing serious.[break][break]

"That's not funny I was really worried." she said with a slight pout before grabbing hold of him by the collar of his shirt. "No matter how cute and funny you are, if you scare me like that again you'll be in big trouble. Do I make myself clear Mr. Volosenkov?" Having birthed and raised a child it was easy for Camila to slip back into 'Mother Bear Mode'. Then again, for as long as Kolya has known Cami, he's been aware of her temper. [break][break]

The threat was serious.[break][break]

Cami's steel blue glare was icy before a small smirk formed on her lips and she leaned in close to plant a soft kiss against his lips. "I love you too." she whispered before giving him one last playful shove. She couldn't believe she'd fallen for that. It was obvious now that she thought about it. [break][break]

"Now for real this time." Cami said as she grabbed her tablet, ready to begin the check-up/physical exam. "And let's hurry. You're taking me out to lunch to make up for scaring me." she said with a smug grin of her own now.

It was clear Nikolaj was still quite shaken up, understandably so. Even Camila couldn't quite believe it. It didn't seem real, almost like it was some bad nightmare that they hadn't woken up from. When she thought about James she thought about when she'd met both James and Nikolaj through her work back in Sinnoh.[break][break]

She thought about how she would always chastise him for coming into her clinic with some new injury every other day because of his recklessness. Camila's brow creased as her frown deepened. In her mind, she'd always thought of James and Nikolaj as invincible. Of course, she knew they weren't. She was a doctor after all, she'd seen almost everything in her line of work. But those two were some of the strongest people she knew so this was...hard.[break][break]

She could only imagine what this was like for her husband.[break][break]

"Lung cancer," Kolya replied after settling into his seat. "Fuck." Camila breathed. Cancer was a bitch, this she knew very well. In her line of work, Doctors would do their best to care for their patients but sometimes...sometimes you lost them and that was never easy. Even after twenty plus years of working in medicine.[break][break]

Cami would like to think she knew her husband pretty well at this point. And considering she was concerned she was more hyper-focused on his subtle movements and body language now more than ever. She noticed his eyes drift to the cabinet where he stashed his cigars. She could understand his thought process immediately.[break][break]

"Hey." she said softly as she stood closer to him and took his face in her hands. "Look at me." she said softly as he pulled his head up gently to look at her. "I've got you." she said firmly as she softly caressed his face. "And you know how careful we're being." she said as her gaze softened on him. "You'll be okay." she said as she pulled him in close to her chest and hugged him.[break][break]

"I'm sorry." she mumbled softly into his hair as she embraced him. Her sorry wouldn't bring James back. If she was honest, part of her felt guilty even though she knew this wasn't her fault. But as a Doctor she wanted to save everyone. She'd worked so hard to study medicine to prevent her friends and loved ones from suffering and she still wasn't good enough. "I'm so sorry."

"Sometimes it's like an ache in my chest. Other times, I feel delirious — like I have a fever. I do get pretty warm when it happens, but I don't sweat or anything." Cami's frown deepened as she began to filter through a list of causes and diagnoses. "Chest pain isn't good." she muttered to herself as she reached to grab her tablet as she jotted some of the symptoms down that he was listing to her. [break][break]

"When did you start experiencing--" she began to ask after she was finished with her notes. But she was interrupted as she turned to face him again only to realize he had leaned in closer to her. "In fact, I kind of feel it now." he said with a frown. "Now?" Cami said as she quickly placed the back of her hand against his head. [break][break]

"You don't feel hot." she muttered. "But I'll take your temperature just to be safe." she said as she rose to her feet to grab her thermometer. "Sit back and sit up straight." she said as she placed a hand on his chest to push him back before prepping the thermometer. "How would you describe the chest pain?" she said as she closed the distance between them. "Chin up." she said as she lifted his head up with her free hand. "Open your mouth for me."[break][break]

Cami had currently shifted to 'Doctor Mode' which is usually where she's hyper focused. It was one of her strong suits that she could easily shift her focus and easily adapt according to what she was currently faced with.

It seemed her approach finally got her husbands attention, but when she received it she noticed that something was wrong. He turned to embrace her before gently planting a kiss on above her brow. But when she looked at his facial expression she could tell he was troubled. Suddenly her playful mood was replaced by a more concerned and serious one as she waited for him to answer her question. What's Wrong?[break][break]

"I just got off the phone with Dad," Kolya responded after a moment. This caused Cami to raise an eyebrow in confusion. For as long as she'd known Nikolaj he didn't have a good relationship with his father. For what purpose would he be calling out of the blue suddenly. "He called to check that Sasky had arrived safely and was settled in."[break][break]

Cami's frown deepened but she nodded her head in understanding. That was the other shitty part. Despite Evgeni being a total ass to his own flesh and blood son, he was apparently a doting grandfather. Camila hadn't resisted when Saskia had mentioned going back to her parent's homeland to study. She even permitted that she could be in contact with her grandfather, though she did protest a bit. How could he continue to be an ass to his only son yet treat his granddaughter with delicacy?[break][break]

Well, at least he had a small decent bone in his body to do that much. Camila wouldn't have allowed such treatment of her daughter on top of how he treated her husband. It seems the strange news didn't end there, "He also let me know that James died recently. His funeral was a couple of weeks ago." Camila's eyes were wide as she stared up at her husband in disbelief.[break][break]

She knew James was Kolya's friend from their days in Sinnoh. To be more specific James was a friend he made when Kolya was still a member of Team Rocket. She could remember all the stories Kolya would tell her about their escapades. Some of them sounding so outlandish that it almost seemed like it was straight out of a movie script. "Ah." Cami breathed as she lowered her gaze to the floor. "W-What happened? Did he say?" she asked as she turned her gaze back towards him. She took his hand and led him to the kitchen table so they could sit and talk.

After Cami was done cleaning her tools she hooked her stethoscope in her ear before pausing and giving Nikolaj a frown. "What do you mean 'something's off'? I need more details." Concern was clearly written on her face as she scooted closer to him. "Deep breaths, in and out." she ordered softly before her hand hesitated. "This might be a bit cold. But continue, I'm listening."[break][break]

She pressed the stethoscope underneath his short on his back so she could listen to his lungs while she prompted him when to inhale and exhale. Her brows were creased the entire time, a sure sign of her worry at the words he'd said to her. Since they were getting up in age Camila had taken it upon herself to take extra special care of both her health and Kolya's.[break][break]

She wanted them both to live long happy lives with no issues. For them to grow old together and become complete menaces to the younger generation and they have a valid excuse, since they were old. Kolya was one of the most important people in her life. Her hearts gleam. When concerning things such as health crises arose she was naturally prepositioned to assume the worst. [break][break]

After all, she lost her father due to them being unable to have proper medical care available. It's why she became a doctor in the first place, so that she wouldn't have to lose someone important to her like that ever again. If she was being honest with herself, it was still a big fear of hers.

"Hey, baby doll. Surprise." a familiar voice caused her to snap her head up from fiddling with her tablet as she stared back at her husband sitting on the examination table. "Oh," she said pleasantly surprised as she checked the papers Emily had handed to her earlier. Sure enough her husbands name and information were sprawled out in front of her.[break][break]

If she had taken a closer look she would've known he was here waiting for her. Daisy happily floated over Kolya to greet him with an affectionate nuzzle. "You act like you haven't seen him in years." Cami said to her comfey as she crossed her arms over her chest. Daisey paid her no mind though. Just like most of Cami's staff, everyone here seemed to have a soft spot for her husband.[break][break]

Camila didn't mind though, after all she could understand why. Her husband was attractive, kind, and strong. Perfect husband material if she was being honest. The kind that would make your parents proud. And he was all her's. She didn't mind if they looked as long as they kept their hands to themselves.[break][break]

"You didn't tell me you were stopping by this morning." she said as she placed her stuff on the counter before making her way over to the sink to wash her hands. "Not that I'm complaining. I'm always happy to see you." she said after a moment and dried her hands. Grabbing a pair of gloves she sat in her rolling chair and slid next to Kolya.[break][break]

"Alright big guy." she said with a smile. "Talk to me about how you've been feeling health wise while I prep my tools." she said with a pause before flashing him a glance. "And yes, I still have to ask." she added before he could protest. He should know the drill by now. Grabbing a hold of some sterilizing tools she began to cleanse her equipment while waiting on Kolya to give her the usual report sot that she can update his file in their system.

Cami had just gotten out of the shower and gotten dressed. On her days off she gladly slept in and took her time to enjoy her day since it was a day of rest. Today though, she was starving and she was thinking if she acted cute enough around Nikolaj he would cave in and take her on a cute little lunch date. [break][break]

She was finishing putting her hair in a braid as walked barefoot into the kitchen. Her feet padded softly against the wood floor as she looked around for her earrings that she had on the other day. "Baby, have you seen my earrings?" She said with a frown as she looked around. "The cute ones with the sapphire stone you got me?" she said as she continued to ruffle through their things in search for her jewelry. [break][break]

After a moment when Kolya hadn't responded she looked up for a moment. "Kolya?" she called out to him again but he still made no move to acknowledge her. With a frown she puffed out her cheeks in a pout. Nikolaj rarely ignored her so she assumed he was in the middle of something. Still though, shouldn't his wife in need be more important?[break][break]

Leaving her searching duties to the side for now she closed the distance between herself and her husband as she approached him from behind. As she got closer she reached out with her hands to cop a feel of his butt before pressing herself closer to him. "This is your punishment for ignoring me." she said with a pout as she soon wrapped her arms around him. "What's wrong?"

Lately Camila found her clinic busier than ever. Honestly ever since joining up with Hoenn's Medical Association and partnering with the Pokémon Center's, things have been going better than ever with her and the clinic. As her clinic was an extension of one of the local pokémon center's in Oldale, and served both pokémon and trainers, Cami and her staff constantly had things on their plate to do. [break][break]

Today was no different. She had an early start this morning and it didn't help that she'd done a little drinking last night as well. On top of not being a morning person, this particular morning was rough. She was currently nursing a hangover headache as she poured herself a cup of coffee back in the break room. [break][break]

Since doors opened she'd probably seen about 15-20 patients already which was already above average. It wasn't even lunch time yet. With a groan and a slight rub to her temples she took a sip of her tea. This was going to be a long day, she could tell. While she was in the middle of enjoying her moment of respite one of her nurses entered into the breakroom with a sheepish look on her face. [break][break]

"E-excuse me? Doctor V?" she asked timidly. Tired steel blue orbs shifted slowly over towards the woman before placing her finished cup of tea in the sink. "How can I help you Emily?" she asked as she turned towards her. "You have one more patient before your lunch ma'am. He's all set up and waiting for you back in room three."[break][break]

One more sigh and a couple pops from her muscles she closed the distance between herself and her nurse. "What are we looking at today?" she asked as they made their way out of the room. "Just a scheduled check-up ma'am." she said as she rushed behind the counter to hand her the files she would need. [break][break]

"Thank you. You can go ahead and take your break." Cami said as she grabbed her tablet and nodded towards Daisy, her comfey, so that they could get to work. "Are you sure? You'll be here alone." Emily asked a bit hesitant. "I've got it covered Em, no worries." she offered her a small smile before making her way towards the room.

Camila had been busy lately much to her own dismay. She had been eagerly awaiting the return of her daughter ever since she'd sent work to them that she'd be returning home. Camila was practically a crying mess once word reached her. Poor had a time getting her to calm down. [break][break]

Ever since the dome had gone up she had been constantly plagued with regrets of things left unsaid. Back then, with the threat of death on the horizon she could only think about all the things she wouldn't be able to do with Saskia. Her secrets were heavy and she didn't want to leave this earth without telling her the truth.[break][break]

So she'd spent time journaling and pouring her feelings out on the paper. Everything and anything that she needed to tell Sasky should she ever find herself in a World where she could no longer come to her mother for advice. She wanted to make sure that Saskia was equipped with all the tools necessary to survive in this cruel world. And above all, she deserved to know the burden she was carrying.[break][break]

But then the dome came down and the meteor striking Hoenn and killing them all was avoided. She had stopped journaling and instead focused on reuniting with her daughter once again. At least that was the plan until she was forced to attend this medical conference here in Mauville City. Just thinking about it soured her mood all over again.[break][break]

She hadn't seen her precious baby in years but here she was, working. But she had to show up after all she was representing more than herself here. Not to mention, Rocket took full advantage of her work trip to assign some work for her while she was over here as well. What a pain in the ass.[break][break]

But all that was ending today. While she still had one more day left of the conference, Saskia had agreed to meet her here in Mauville City at a coffee shop to hang out. Camila was so excited, it was practically all she could think about today. She even managed to get dressed up and arrive at the shop early. [break][break]

Cami didn't mind waiting though. It would be one of the few times where it was absolutely worth it. She kept checking the small watch on her wrist while she held the buzzer the staff had given her as they prepared a table for them. Steel blue eyes scanned the area until she believed she spied a familiar head of brown hair that she'd recognize anywhere. [break][break]

Cami had to resist the urge to run over to her and wrap her in the strongest bear-hug imaginable. Instead she took a deep breathe and tried to relax. "Be still, my heart." she said softly before turning and closing the gap between them. Still some things couldn't be helped. She pulled Saskia into a deep embrace immediately as she felt tears well up in her eyes that she forced herself to repress. "Oh my baby." Cami said as she squeezed her. "I've missed you so much."
