She actively watched as her husband relented under her touch. She was relieved he trusted her so but it was such a bittersweet feeling. But she knew she would make this choice every time if it meant she could protect her family. She sighed softly at the follow up question. "That...I'm not sure of."[break][break]

Like everything else she had been saying, this too was a half truth. "Dealing with a corporation always has it's ups and downs. They can be speedy with their responses one week and then leave you rotting for the next two to three." she quipped. "Ideally though I should see some progress month to month and a half."[break][break]

Cami leaned in a planted a gently kiss against Kolya's cheek. "But I'll try to get some help so that I can rest too. I don't want to worry you." she said with an affectionate smile. "How's that sound?"

At the question of if she could hire hire someone she sighed. Realistically, hiring someone for her normal work would work for sure. But it would only free up a fraction of her time. "That's only a temporary fix." Cami explained as she looked up at Kolya from his lap. "Is it a money issue?" her husband asked.[break][break]

"What? No,no." Now Cami felt bad. She hopped up from where she was leaning against Kolya and instead sat in his lap, cupping his face between her hands. "Don't think like that. I don't want you to think you have to work more or anything." she was afraid he might tire himself out just like her. "The extra doctor or two might be able to free up my hands around the clinic but that won't be enough."[break][break]

She ran her fingers through her hair. "Since our clinic is merging with the union, it means extra work. It doesn't help that there's a shortage of healthcare professionals too. So when its all hands on deck, I have to answer the call, usually putting on ridiculous shifts at the hospital instead of the clinic."[break][break]

Cami was already tired thinking about it. "I'm the only one that can do that work unfortunately." she said as she offered him a small smile. She didn't like telling half truth's like this. Especially when Nikolaj was clearly concerned. It made her feel guilty. "I'm sure once everything is squared away with the merger then half of my workload will be eliminated." she said as she nuzzled closer to her husband. [break][break]

"I just gotta hang on a little while longer." That's right. She'd solve this problem soon and everything would go back to normal in no time.

Cami chuckled at her husband's response to her treat. It was as she expected, it was still too sweet for him, even if she thought it was mild in comparison to her own tastes. Still, Kolya tried to put on a brave face for her, it was cute. Once they had made it to their beach blankets Cami sighed in relief. Happy to be back under the shade of their little beach umbrellas. [break][break]

"You don't have to thank me," Kolya responded to Cami's gratitude as he eased into his own chair. Meanwhile Cami opted for laying across her beach towel. "I know you would've regretted not coming with Sasky and me. And you need it, you know? You can't work all the time, baby girl." Nikolaj was right. Under normal circumstances she wouldn't have even attempted to handle all of this on her own anymore. [break][break]

She'd long since learned how to take a break. At least, for her standards. She still worked extremely hard, a firm believer in doing nothing half-assed. But this pickle that she had gotten her family into was different. She had to work tirelessly so that they could sleep well at night, safe and sound. But it's not like she could just say that. [break][break]

"Ugh, I know but," she said with a groan as she shoved another spoonful for sugary goodness into her mouth. "It just feels never-ending. The amount of work I mean. I finish one thing and something else pops up. If I don't get it under control it'll swallow me alive." she said with a dramatic huff. "I don't even want to think about what's waiting for me back at the office."[break][break]

Cami flashed a pitiful look at her husband as she crawled over to gently lean her head against his lap. "I'll get gray hair at the rate I'm going."

As soon as Kolya handed her the shaved ice she ordered and her spoon, she quickly scooped up some of the sugary goodness and popped it into her mouth. "Mmm," she hummed. The sugary goodness served to momentarily distract her from her troubles at least. Her hunch had been right that this flavor would be good. Especially on a hot day like this one, it was rather refreshing than sickly sweet. [break][break]

"Yours good, Cami?" Kolya asked her and steel blue hues turned to meet him. "Mhm, you wanna have a taste?" she asked with a smile as she scooped some for him and held out her spoon. "Say 'ah'" she said with a happy grin, fully intent of feeding her husband some of her sweet treat. [break][break]

If Kolya took a bite she'd eagerly watch his expression before asking, "Is it good?" She was well aware that he didn't exactly enjoy sweets, the exact opposite of her. Cami actually had to struggle to keep her sweet tooth in check, otherwise she'd ruin her diet with sugary treats. Then that could lead to a slew of medical complications and she just didn't want to go down that rabbit hole. [break][break]

"Thank you, by the way. I don't think I said so earlier." she said before taking another bite of her shaved ice. The 'thank you' wasn't just for the treat he bought for her, but that he'd pushed her to go on this little vacation trip. Despite this being tradition, this year, with everything going on she had half a mind to work through everything and send Kolya and Saskia on without her. [break][break]

After all, it didn't seem right to be enjoying herself with there were still outside forces that threatened the peace of her family. But she was always reminded how she didn't want her family to be concerned. If she'd told them the truth then it would only serve to create problems in their day-to-day lives. That wasn't fair to them. No. No matter how tired Cami was, she was sure she was strong enough to handle this on her own.

"An Archivist huh?" Camila murmured as she nodded listening along to Saskia's explanation. She had the slightest concern when she mentioned exploring ruins but Cami had to remind herself that Saskia was an adult and could handle herself. It was always hard to let go though. If possible Camila would shield her from all the danger in the world and keep her in a perfect bubble. [break][break]

But Saskia wouldn't like that. Besides, that wasn't truly living anyway. "When history comes alive it does end up being really cool." she agreed as she polished off her appetizer. "Did you guys find anything else interesting while exploring?" she asked as she glanced at the menu again. [break][break]

Meanwhile the waiter returned to the table to take their order and Cami smiled. "I'll have the Cheesy Whimsicott Meatloaf and a Bouncy Brionne Soda for the drink." she said as she handed the menu over to the waiter and turned her attention back to her daughter. "Museum... you mean the one in Slateport? The Museum of Natural History?" Cami had heard good things about that place, she'd been meaning to stop by for herself and take a look.

After Camila was finished buttering her piece of bread she bit into it, delighted at the warmth that flooded her mouth. Saskia began to add some things to her plate as well as they continued to talk. She mentioned working on getting her Lycanroc to heed her commands more. Her mother nodded in agreement. "That's certainly a good first step Sasky."[break][break]

She watched as hunger won out over reason as her daughter began to scramble to shove things into her mouth. Cami chuckled as she pushed Saskia's drink closer to her. "Slow down, it's not going anywhere." It was times like this she was reminded that some things never changed, no matter how much time flowed between them. [break][break]

Camila continued to nod and chew on her appetizer as she listened to her daughter, only managing to choke a little bit at the mention of a 'cute boy' from Saskia's lips. Okay maybe that wasn't her words exactly but still. "Boy?" Cami asked for clarification as she grabbed a napkin to wipe the corners of her mouth. She didn't want to seem too eager to know the details lest Saskia choose not to tell her, but she couldn't help it. She spoke the magic words. [break][break]

Arceus...what would Nikolaj think when she told him...maybe she was getting ahead of herself here. Best to not panic and let Saskia explain everything first.

Camila was bone tired. In fact, she had to put effort into doing her makeup this time because the bags under her eyes were screaming they were designer. Why was the doctor so exhausted? Simple. That filthy rate, Jamie's younger brother, managed to contact her once more. After she had even went and reassured her husband that things would be fine.[break][break]

She didn't need this on her plate too. She had her hands full with the aftermath from the conflict in Ultra Deep Sea and her clinic was in the middle of a merge with a larger facility. Why? Because doctors and nurses were in demand around here considering the shenanigans that went on in this region. [break][break]

This meant not only did Camila have to manage her clinic branch near home but she was also constantly traveling around the region to assist with other hospitals and clinics of the like. Wherever her services were need, and her services were required often. Just those two things alone were enough to drive her up a wall and now she needed to deal with her stalker, Josiah.[break][break]

It soured her entire mood and this was supposed to be a nice relaxing family get away. She loved her beach trip tradition with her family. Being on the beach would always relax her. Hearing the ocean waves, smelling the salty sea, feeling the sand on her skin. Nothing rejuvenated her like being near the ocean. But for once it seemed like even that wasn't helping her.[break][break]

Her husband's voice was what managed to drag her away from her inner turmoil's. "Hm? Oh, um. Swablu Shave Ice sounds nice, thank you hun." She said as she flashed him a smile.

Kolya sighed before slowly rising to his feet. Camila's blue gaze slowly following him as he did so. "I'll have Garchomp guard you at your clinic," He stated simply. "You can bring her while you run errands as well." Camila was aware why he was doing this. Cami didn't have any pokรฉmon of her own that were really capable of protecting her.[break][break]

Still, this would end up being more of a pain her ass than anything. There were times when she would need to disappear to handle her Rocket responsibilities. She couldn't have his Garchomp tailing her while she did all of that. "Baby, that shouldn't be necessary. I mean, nothings happened, it really is just me being paranoid. I--"[break][break]

"You'll tell me if you get any more messages, or if anyone strange approaches you, all right?" Nikolaj interrupted her. His tone made and body language made it clear that he would not be budging on this matter with her. Understanding this was a fight she'd lose Camila quickly relented. Instead she just stood up and embraced him. "Okay, I promise. Thank you." she said softly as she nuzzled against her husband. [break][break]

She'd figure out a way to deal with this situation on her own. She had to.

Saskia's face flushes as warm tears begin to drip down her face. Camila feels a strong tug on her heart. She just wants to cross over to the side her daughter sits on and wrap her in her arms. But she resists. As Sasky attempts to swipe the tears away from her face with the back of her hand, Camila expertly reaches into her purse and hands her a small packet of tissues. These would be gentler on her face than that napkin or her hand anyway. [break][break]

"And you can, darling. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, even if that's yourself." Camila would pause for a moment as memories of her own journey flashed past her eyes. She could understand Saskia's sentiment quite well because she used to think just like her. Even now she still tries to do her part to make a difference in this world. [break][break]

"You remind me a lot of myself when I was your age." Camila continues with a distant smile gracing her lips. "I was extremely ambitious and I had big dreams." She had to have big dreams considering her living conditions back then. It was the only way she could realistically get out of that hell hole. Cami paused once more, as if to choose her words carefully. She didn't want to burden her daughter with her tragic backstory but she wanted her to know that she could relate.[break][break]

With a slight bite of her lip she continued, "I didn't get to live life like normal people around me. In fact, I had to sacrifice a lot." Back then she was forced to live paycheck to paycheck all while in medical school and working full time. Her nose was always in a book and her social life was nonexistent. Camila would often push herself to the brink and beyond, hell she could remember the constant stress nosebleeds and fainting spells now. [break][break]

Even from childhood she didn't have many bright memories of childhood bliss and innocence. She needed to work to ensure that she was safe and could get out of her abusive household while still intact. "It was hard. I can't tell you how many nights I cried myself to sleep, but whenever I felt like giving up I was reminded of how far I had come. And where I was going."[break][break]

Cami cast her gaze down to her hands that rested on the table as she continued, "I learned that, at times, the bigger our dreams the more intimidating and impossible it all seems. But if you take one step at a time, make one small change, when you look back you'll see you've come farther than you realize."[break][break]

Camila smiles at her daughter as the waiter stops by their table to bring them some appetizers. She'll pause for a moment before signaling that they were fine and that the waiter could leave them before turning her attention back to Saskia. "If I know my daughter, and I think I do," she'd say with a playful wink, "I'd say you're stronger than you think you are. When you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything, Saskia." she'd say with a reassuring smile. [break][break]

"And no, I'm not just saying that as your mom." she added as she reached for a piece of bread and began to butter it. "I've seen you do it baby girl." she'd chuckle. "So when you don't believe in yourself, just remember that I do."

"No, no he didn't visit me thankfully. It was a phone call." Camila didn't even want to imagine what would happen if he'd actually showed up to her place of work. That would be a page out of her worst nightmares for sure. And she wasn't confident she'd be able to handle it. Then again, this was all just an embellishing of what actually happened.[break][break]

Looking at Kolya's facial expression she could tell he wasn't pleased, but she was already in too deep. "He...He called me like how he used to. Told me he missed me and that he'd see me soon." Her frown deepened as she explained. "But there hasn't been anymore word. The dome was up for a while after all."

"Unresolved? What's been left unresolved?" Her husband asked her and Camila froze. How was she continuing to put her foot in her mouth like this? Camila bit her lip and lowered her head. She'd really done it now. She was an idiot. And now she was going to be forced to tell even more lies than when she had started. [break][break]

Well, she could always tell the truth, but she wasn't quite ready to deal with Kolya's potential outrage. Besides, he had enough on his plate for today and here she was making things about her. She was despicable. "Do you want to talk about what's worrying you?" Kolya gently prodded. [break][break]

He was concerned and he was trying to help but it only made his wife feel even guiltier for what she was about to do. Cami let out a heavy sigh as she picked at her nails. "I didn't want to make this about me...you've been through enough..." she said as she tightened her grip on her hands. "You lost a friend."[break][break]

Cami continued before sighing once more, as if she was saying she had no choice but to finally come clean. "Before...the dome went up I got a funny message while at work." she started. Nikolaj already knew about Cami's past. How her father's death was what prompted her to study medicine. [break][break]

The steady decline of her mother's mental health before she fell to drugs, prostitution, and alcohol. Her pimp and drug dealer becoming her lover. Her bringing him in their home and turning Camila's life into a living hell. Her mother turning a blind eye to the abuse until her daughter stopped coming home because she couldn't stand how he looked at her.[break][break]

Finally, the breaking point. The final fight she had with her mother when she caught her mother stealing from her. Her mother's boyfriend coming home inebriated and joining in. Her mother and boyfriend getting into it before an accident broke out and ruined everything. The fire destroyed everything that was left of their house and the short but pleasant memories she had with her mother and father. All it left behind in it's wake were ashes and the burnt corpses of her mother and boyfriend.[break][break]

Her hesitation proved how there was still trauma there as her body began to tremble slightly. "J-Jamie....my mother's boyfriend." she spoke the name as she stared down at their tiled kitchen floor. "Jamie had a brother who was also in the business. He wasn't as...aggressive as Jamie but he was no better. He was...closer to my age. And he never hid his interest in me." she continued. [break][break]

"After my mother and Jamie's death, word on the street was that he was looking for me. You know, since I was the only one that made it out of that. That's why I needed to move away from my hometown. It's why I chose to start my clinic somewhere else. Why I got to meet you in the first place." She took a shaky breath and ran her fingers through her hair.[break][break]

"It would seem after all these years he still holds a grudge. Because the message I got was from him. I don't know how he found out about me, about where I work here.
