But the ground is not enough to bury his opponent. Like a warrior sent from heaven, it rises from the sand tomb the dragon has created. Instead, it is Valiant that receives a deadly blow after blow after blow and with each strike leaves the audience screaming in awe and delight. Blood paints the entire arena and he can only hear the applause that the people get for what the people call "Navy".

Sergei immediately rushes into the side of his garchomp, his mighty form reverting back to its original one, never mind the round man screaming numbers so loud in his microphone.

"You did a great job buddy, you can rest now. We can try again next time." He clicks the ball button onto his flesh as the bright red light consumes the dragon back inside its shelter. Just in time as he stands up, the referee finally announces the other side the winner. Everyone cheers on: the winning side of the audience now happily minding their own business and collecting their bet moneys.

Inside the cage, Sergei walks towards Navy, passes and nods at the bear with acknowledgement, and brings back the garchompite to its original owner.

"I really thought we could win this battle." He chuckles, acknowledging defeat without any taint of bitterness. "Judging by the amount of bloodshed tonight, it really seems like the league has no control of crime industry in this region, eh? I swear if you have no better control, I'd be planning a funeral by now. Anyway, congrats!"

Serge knows shit just got real when the other man pulls up another trick up his sleeve. The megastone sparkles when the man throws it into his direction, the faintest of light in the arena glimmering on its surface as Sergei scrambles to catch it in one piece. He has seen this before as he had studied its effects on dragon-type Pokemons but never did he own one or even use one for a battle.

"Lopez? I don't know him" Serge raises the stone and it shines with Valiant, the latter transforming into a creature both hideous and amazing. The effect of the megaevolution replenishes his feeling of weariness and the only thing on his mind right now is to try and finally win this thing. "But you have me--Dachev--and that's all you have to worry right now."

It is as if the kinetic energy in the arena pulses when Valiant megaevolves, clumps of sand from previous strikes now levitate and flow around the dragon like water, its ability SAND FORCE taking full course around his body. The garchomp attempts another SAND TOMB--and this time it's more lethal than ever.

IT WAS LIKE A DREAM. A redhead just as tall as him (Valerio Dachev) standing so solemn in what is like a state between reality and fiction. Sergei recognizes him from somewhere like a vivid dream that has long been gone but cannot quite put his fingers into whether it is real or not. The person looks like him but is nothing like him. What bothers Sergei is that this person could either be his past of future.

A nudge is what awakens him in this sort of like living dream. Valiant bumps him as he stands close on his back, watching the horror that surrounds the town in his first Hoennian field work. This is starting to feel like an action film, he thinks. An action sequence wrapped in what is like a pink filter from the mist leaking out of the earth. This must have been the source of his trance, he thinks.

A figure comes out of the smoke when he thinks all hope is lost.

"I don't even know what's happening here. Is there a way out of this?"

SERGEI catches CYCLIZAR.

A pack of rockruff passes by the trainer and one particularly catches his attention. Sergei scrambles to get a snack it is trying to save for his Pokemons to this little one, but before he can give the jerky to it the canine has already run away.

SOLO WILD - 1/3

When the grey beast grapples the dragon and hurls it into the fence, there is nothing that is stopping it from such a great counterattack. Valiant braces the assault but not before cocooning himself to lessen the impacted surface. His back hits the fence wall and without him knowing Sergei just learned that the cage is electrically charged the moment it is closed and that just doubled the damage that his partner has received. Whether the opponent knows about it or not is a mystery he will never get to know, but at least the crowd is more frisky than before.

Valiant coughs up blood; when the previous punch may have hit a bone or two, the recent strike surely did the number. The dragon looks into his trainer's eye, saying it can do a little more for the win: they just need to be a little more... unusual.

"That is a good counterattack." Despite being taunting, Sergei is real sport when it comes to Pokemon battles. "It's like you're a seasoned underground Pokemon trainer yourself."

Valiant takes the time to recharge, his eyes meeting that of the opponent as it carefully watches its every move. And like a raging pinball, the dragon, glowing bright red purple, launches itself all around the octagonal cage, leaping and leaping, faster and faster, building a momentum using DRAGON RUSH. He will continue to do this until all that is seen is a blur of passing light, and when it thinks the opponent can no longer follow him with its eye, the dragon strikes.

Sergei has to give it to his opponent's partner that grace and fighting-type often does not marry well but it manages to get out of the hitch like a river coursing through colossal boulders. Tearing down flesh and splattering blood can only satisfy the audience for a little while but there is much thirst to indulge when not one of them almost looks unalive. The rapid strikes leave no dust and stones in the air that when the opponent is finally out of the veil can it only prepare itself for the landslide that is about to hit it.

"Funny you should say that when it's your view that's obstructed." There is smug in his tone that is undeniably proud.

Valiant attempts to tackle the bear with a TAKE DOWN, his horn-like appendages glowing in bright blue as it catapults itself into the enemy with much speed and accuracy. Speed is not Valiant's greatest strength; it's his timing.

MISSION: BOXING BOUNCERS (QQ)

There is nothing like the twinge of such jab that can get Valiant easily get back on his feet. The sharp punch hits the garchomp's torso; the dragon wincing in pain as the impact pushes him back just a few feet beside his trainer but not without dragging his heavy fins onto the ground, sending a VEIL OF SANDSTORM (SAND VEIL) the opponent's way.

"Your partner is so strong it's scary... but don't think for a second that it fazes Valiant and me!" He says as his lips curl ever so slightly, as if revealing an old trick in his books.

The ability to create a sandstorm is just enough to setup the garchomp's next move while recoving from the pain. The dragon leans on its leg and attempts to flap his wings, tempting the raging sandstorm in the direction of his opponent, in which the only way out is to dig out from the SAND TOMB that it will create.

The crowd continues to cheer but Sergei can hear they are no longer satisfied: the audience is out for blood and the lead actors must satiate the people's thirst sooner or later. This is going to be more complicated than I thought, is what's in his head.

Now that is a Pokemon I have never seen before! Sergei thinks with both admiration and anxiousness. The thing with Valiant is his strength mostly comes from experience and from experience comes a long history of dealing with the same kinds of Pokemon, those other competitive trainers have an obsession of bringing on the battle arenas. Between conquering an uncharted territory and the threat of being obliterated penniless leaves the couple no choice but to see things through and expect from a miracle dear Arceus could have ever given such a pair.

"Knock it down!"

Judging the speed of the opponent, Valiant knows there is no need for competing on who can strike first: he just have to steal the momentum. The garchomp leaps into the air then swiftly crashes back down, BULLDOZING into the arena, trying to slow the enemy down.

HIS PARENTS WARNED HIM it is a dangerous time to be living in Hoenn right now. It turns out that they are right about it.

But at least for Sergei, it is good that he does not listen to his parents very well. Besides, he is not above anything to not try his luck in an opportunity to earn some good and quick money. Student loans are already getting the best of him and his travel to this region without any support is not that cheap. And so when it comes down to entrusting Valiant the garchomp that he has a way out of this or to starve for the next few nights in some rundown, cheap, roadside motel in Lilycove, he knows better there is an option that could potentially save him in his first days in the region.

The referee begins locking up the gate and it is just the four of them inside the caged battle ring. Valiant looks in the eye of his trainer, and is geared to make his first move.
