HOLY FUCK—THEY REACHED THE STATUE. The redhead and his Garchomp scrambles out of the ground and leans closely to inspect the wooden figure: a bunny with a bulbous crown on its own royal steed. And then a horrified gasp escapes his mouth as the effigy catches flame.

And then he sees everything around him: the Groudon, the Wo-Chien, the volley of attacks from both sides, and the materialization of the bunny creature in-front of them. Sergei watches as some malevolent energy lifts up these people, possessing them with his spirit to communicate with the lot, and then eventually with its decapitated wooden head.

"Bitch, when I brought my dragons the last thing I expect is to be teleported into this winter fuckhole," he turns to Jack Napier, air-quoting with his fingers, "and then 'die.'"

The creature speaks again and offers an opportunity to grant them its final wisdom. It was a risk he is willing to take. "But while we're at it, let's not get stupid."



The redhead instructs Valiant to use STONE EDGE and protect them from possible attacks, as he attempts to ask his question as well.

"IF YOU ARE THE KING OF BOUNTIFUL HARVEST, THEN WHY DOES YOUR KINGDOM SEEMS SO BARREN?"

When he hears the creature bids them to finally end its life, and seeing other trainers do so as well, he can't, out of his good conscience, actually let it happen. Before Valiant can even complete his move, he makes the dragon redirect his attack into the CALYREX's direction. Stones erupt from the ground as it creates a barricade against the onslaught of that comes to target it.

As a researcher, it is not his obligation to obliterate problems but to find solutions for them.

Moved by his own hero complex and call of morality, he turns to Jack Napier in that split second so he can answer his question. "I know, I know. This is stupid."

SERGEI KNEW HE WOULD BE A POKEMON TRAINER IF NOT FOR HIS LOVE OF RESEARCH. The Dachev knew he had the skills and the talent to train his Pokemons in a way that deserves to be recognized as a Pokemon Champion material. But Sergei does not want to compete in a field that is already claimed by a lot of people his age: he wants something for himself that no longer relies on proving his own capabilities amongst others.

But in a new region with a new life and a new objective, sidetracking into the path of League Championship is a welcome change that not only boosts his reputation and his career opportunities but also teach him valuable lessons that will help him live in Hoenn. This region, after all, relies on Pokemon battle not just for entertainment but for survival. After everything he has seen, he knows defeating the Gym Leaders and the Elite Four is a feat he is willing to take.

It is a lax Thursday morning: the only free day in his schedule this week to do something outside his work. He had set appointments with at least two Gyms, but only Mauville responded. So now the redhead wanders around the open field, his glance navigating all around the grassy terrain, waiting for his name to be called.

LIKE HIS TWO COMPANIONS, SERGEI SNEAKS A FEW PIECES OF THE DEFUNCT Z-CRYSTALS FOR FUNSIES.

He continues to follow their trail as Remiel Calcifet narrates his reasons of going in this expedition. Sergei, on the other hand, is busy scrutinizing the crystal. Thanks for the few lights that continue to illuminate their surroundings, the z-crystal is a hollow core that can easily tremble with a force of grip. He shares the sentiment of Saki Shitachi, but gives in to the fact that he has already seen enough crazy to not actually believe this can be possible.

It is now their turn to answer, but Sergei's eyes is fixated on the vending machine, the only thing brightest in its corner. Suddenly, his throat begins to feel dry like the Desert Resort. "I suddenly feel thirsty."

Sergei knows he should not be doing illogical things, but curiosity gets the best of him upon seeing the familiar machine in an unfamiliar terrain. Saki Shitachi must be right about the Megalopolans mass producing z-crystals, but not for reasons they thought they know. The redhead touches the steel, his fingers searching for trenches on the cold surface, and then there's one: in the shape of the z-crystal.

"This must be their currency."

He places one, two, three... he counts seven crystals already in the slot before the machine lights up in full disco color and a neon-tinted bottle rolls down. "Dope."

Sergei opens it and gorges liberally on the bottle. The flavor overwhelms him as he begin to throw up and accidentally drop the bottle from his hand. The ODD TASTE leaves a feeling of sand and dryness in his mouth, the liquid seems to be something inherently unhuman. "Nope. NOT DOPE."

Unfortunately for the trio, the flickering lights is just another signal. Valiant howls in their rear: the Megalopolan mob has destroyed the barricate and is running back to them.

SERGEI AND HIS CYCLIZAR ARE NOT SO LUCKY. Volante's DRAGON RUSH proves ineffective in the wall of ice that smothered them, his dragon maneuvered her dash to take most of the damage. As they both drown in the avalanche, Sergei and Cyclizar fall unconscious only to find themselves waking up from the bed of snow in what looks like... Crown Tundra?

Crown Tundra is the home of the original Dachevs. The dragon-slayers. He only heard about it from his Mama and only planned to visit it after he finishes his education. Moving in Hoenn to visit his hometown in Galar is the last thing he thought will happen. But here they are.

The cold never bothered him. Sergei takes in everything he sees in-front of him but is brought back to reality when the other man, who is now clearly Jack Napier, regards him.

"I AM warm." He is, after all, a Dachev. But one look at the Cyclizar and he knows the dragon is suffering an injury from the previous attack. "But dragons rarely do good with ice."

He recalls Volante and summons Valiant instead.

Sergei checks upon the surroundings: no signs of the canine nor the feline. But the presence of the fight continues to haunt him as he sees SUNLIGHT-POWERED SOLAR BEAM (from fern delaney) and GIGA DRAIN (from Elisabeth Fiorelli) all around the field.

He takes a moment to now think what he wants and needs to do: his natural curiosity draws him closer into the statue, but he also needs to act for his self-preservation, and perhaps the person with him. He cannot make any more poor decisions, especially seeing what happened to Volante.

"Let's take cover!" He calls to Jack Napier and then orders Valiant to BULLDOZE into the ground. The ground will act as cover should the wild attacks get to them but it will also be his path to reach into the wooden figure and to take a closer look.

Caught in the skirmish at the Ultra Deep Sea, what others affectionately call 'roaring moon' has been the subject of Sergei's recent curiosity. Its perfectly moon-shaped wings mimic the perfect shield in the face of war. If his theories are proven true, perhaps roaring moon's undeniable resemblance with salamence may not just be in its silhouette.

"Thanks for agreeing to this battle! After all, when trainers' eyes meet, there is no escaping a battle, right?"

For starters, Sergei cannot comprehend how an alien race that are moderately human can even understand and speak their language—if ever he hears what they say correctly. But his suspicions are confirmed when the horde follows the light: Saragosa leaps away upon Remiel Calcifet's command, giving the trio the time to hide.

Yakumo (Saki Shitachi), on the hand, sounds panicking. At least that's what Sergei believes. Whatever reason a girl comes with them in this mission is beyond him since he thinks girls her age should be in the confines of her own home.

"No time to waste arguing now! Let's do what he tells us."

The redhead follows after Remiel Calcifet, leaving behind Yakumo with Valiant on their tail should a there be a loose Megalopolan who was not herded by the illumina Pokemon. When Remiel Calcifet takes a moment to squint at what looks like Z-CRYSTALS scattered on the ground, Sergei takes upon himself to make a closer inspection.

"Seems like it. But are they still working? Looks like they're totally expended.

Sergei has to repeat himself in order for Shalin Nariya to hear him. "MINE"S SERGEI!" He points towards the frigibax who stares nonchalantly. "THIS ONE'S WINTER."

He watches as the sygna-suited trainer settles herself, probably the use of the armor wearing her down from what looks like a training routine. "That one's fucking expensive, though! You must be stinking rich, eh?"

Sergei doesn't mean to pry but the idea of having a sygna suit of his own is something beyond what he and his parents can afford. He doubts his parents will even let him have one even in the name of science. But still the curiosity gets the best of him.

"How does it feel... to become like your Pokemon?"

Sergei chokes on his beer before he can even interject.

"No shit, dude. I was there!" The redhead does not even know how he managed to stay alive or even get out of the caves he now know as the Ultra Deep Sea. All the memories surge on him: his clashes with Rocket members, Commander Wise falling ill, and also his own Valiant saving the day, just like Vortigern. "And I was only there because I thought I was invited for a field work!"

Turns out the only work in this 'field work' is to work his ass off just not to die in the middle of the clash.

Hearing about Navy's warning puts a smile on his face. "I like to battle without complication. To be honest, I read about the Rocket takeover thing before but I guess there's something about Hoenn that makes these two forces clash. I guess I'll just have to adopt if I want to stay here longer, right?"

He cheers his bottle again, this time contemplating on the words of his parents. Navy's words remind him of his parent's refusal of him going to Hoenn. But just because it's dangerous doesn't mean it will change his mind of moving in.

It's all for the glory then, he muses happily.

MISSION: ZERO TO ONE HUNDRED

SERGEI IS TOO STARSTRUCK WITH SARAGOSA TO EVEN RESPOND, an illumina garchomp he has never seen before. The truth is, he only learns of the existence of illumina pokemons upon reading public records and tabloids but has never seen an actual one. Until Saragosa.

And despite the warnings and threats he received from his colleagues about going to the Lesser Megalopolis, all his courage pays well when he is this close to the rare garchomp.

"Of course, count us in." Sergei is busy trying to force a selfie with the illumina pokemon and his own garchomp but the flashes from his rotom phone only aggravates the looming situation in-front of them.

Something lurks in the dead metropolis: A 'DEAD' ARMY OF BLUE-SKINNED HUMANOIDS march from the other end of the street. At first, they did not took notice. But the light coming from Saragosa and the flashes from the rotom phone caught their attention.

The horde is slowly walking towards their direction, and when they have come far enough to confirm that they are actual humans, the swarm begins to run.
