(The Hall of Fame that the staffers kept updated was indeed proof of who came by when to ask for a battle).

Right then and there the Braviary would size up their opponent—however instead of attacking, this time he would Bulk himself Up to get ready for whatever was going to come screaming out of the gate!

While Braviary aren’t exactly the fastest fliers, their species are some of the most stubborn known to man—at least, around Unova they have that stubborn-ass reputation to live up to!

Anyway, the moment the dual-type saw the incoming flames, he would do the next best thing—fly down low; so close to the ground it almost looked like a Brave Bird—but in reality it was actually a surprise Aerial Ace the moment the avian suddenly banked up extremely close to the Charizard for some close-quarters action!

“Come on, Kyouya, I know you can do this…” he said; mostly to himself as he watched the rest of the match unfold.

The Braviary, somehow, had managed to scrape out a win against the odds—but fact of the matter was that there was something else that was nagging him to speak with the younger man.

After he’d climbed onto stage for the requisite footage and all that, he quickly recalled his Braviary before leaning in to whisper to the other, “Don’t you know about the possible side-effects of turning your Pokémon kaiju-sized?” before tilting his head to the side of the stage; better for them to clear out of the area right away for the next battle to take place.

They could talk about this while not on the stage, right?

Okay, this Charizard had a lot of sass, much like his own Ravana—and the Braviary would spread his wings in answer to that roar from their opponent, before rising into the air and immediately summoning the avalanche of boulders that came in the form of a Rock Slide, plummeting around the Charizard in an attempt to pin them down!

“Let’s go, let’s go!” he cheered his blue-plumed avian on from his side of the field.

So his next opponent had a rather dark sense of humor, and he couldn’t help but laugh at the snark.

“Trick question is to ask, ‘how much of my blood isn’t vodka’,” he cracked back, his Braviary sizing up the Charizard that they were going to be squaring off against in the ring.

“Let’s have a good match, eh?” he continued with this smirk on his face.

The use of Vacuum Wave like a literal—ooh, that was a clever move from the gigantic Scyther, however his mind was still flashbacking to the potential collateral damage an extremely large Pokémon was capable of—

“Doug! It’s kind of important!” he followed up before gesturing at the large Scyther with both his arms spread out wide; hoping the other would understand it was a bit of an urgent matter that concerned the ‘kaiju phenomenon’.

Back out at the field, the Braviary was drawn in by the suction power of the Scyther’s attack (due to the size; bigger attack meant bigger force of gravity) however he would allow himself to be drawn in; before—

Attempting to catch the Scyther off-guard with a surprise Aerial Ace on the larger-than-life Scyther!

He could only watch as the Rock Slide had been obliterated by the force of the Z-move and—

The tiniest sigh escaped him as his Braviary landed belly-down, knocked out cold before he climbed to the stage.

“I never stood a chance against you,” he would say as he shook the older man’s hand.

“…you already have my badge from the last tournament, though! I can’t hand it out a second time,” he added, an attempt at humor.

Safe to say, since Doug wasn’t a Gym Leader anymore, he had no idea of the meeting that was happening between Gym Leaders and that they were going to be discussing things—one of which happened to be the ‘kaiju phenomenon’ as Alex here called it in the back of his mind.

“Doug!” he called from his side of the arena. “Are you free after this battle? I have to talk to you about something!”

Meanwhile, the Braviary was sweating bullets; how was he going to make the Scyther shrink back down to its normal size without causing a lot of collateral damage?!

(For he’d seen the Dynamax phenomenon in the alternate Galar—didn’t the other know how dangerous it was?!)

The avian then decided to switch tactics a little bit; for instead of trying Sky Drop (because how was that going to work) the avian had to swap at the very last second and used Rock Slide on the humongous Scyther!

“Still, that one good hit really hurt, look at Kyouya,” he remarked, quickly recalling the Pokémon back into his Pokéball.

“Poison of any kind is literally a race against time,” he hummed afterward while he was declared the winner of the current match.

“No, I haven’t been there yet in a hot minute,” he admitted.

Today was absolutely not his day… what was going on?!

“Kyouya, what’s the matter? Snap out of it!” he would holler from his side of the field as every. single. attack of his Braviary hadn’t landed at all so far!

And now things were going to get even worse when—

The Braviary had a few seconds to react before he was flattened by the incoming attack from the Corviknight; squawking in a panic and causing an avalanche of boulders to come falling from the sky in a surprise Rock Slide attack—anything to stay in this battle!

Otherwise, was this going to be his first clean loss?!

The moment the Scyther started growing to comically-humongous proportions, the lines on his forehead creased for a few moments—didn’t the other know how dangerous it was?!

He… he would want to have a few words with Doug after the match, however the immediate concern was this!

The Braviary let out a squawk of dismay, before switching to a surprise Aerial Ace moment in an attempt to try and hack away at the now comically-large Scyther…

The Braviary knew he was in a ra against time, because that stinger had already unloaded its venom and… ugh, this was going to hurt the longer the match was drawn out!

Bracing himself, the Braviary then unloaded another close-range Aerial Ace at the mega-evolved Beedrill, hoping to end this match as soon as possible before he collapsed due to the poisons in his system!

Come on, come on, come on… he chanted mentally in the back of his head; everything was on tenterhooks right now with this match!

Oh, boy.

Was this going to be another wash-out battle where he couldn’t do anything? Surely not…

Things weren’t exactly going too well today, all considered that the Braviary saw dark shadows coming from the Corviknight—he didn’t want those to touch him, either.

Even if this was going to be difficult, the Braviary would then caw loudly; fighting through the pain before approaching the Corviknight and attempting to drag them into the sky with a Sky Drop attack!

“Maybe it was a good thing I got your badge too, back in the previous tournament!” he cackled, referencing the Hoenn Star Tournament where they had met under extremely strange circumstances that involved an aerial race with body pillows being dropped from everywhere…

“So what’ve you been doing these days?” he asked the other; all this while the Scyther and Braviary were exchanging blows.

While the Scyther’s attack was meant to be so fast it would go first, the Braviary had other ideas; suddenly flapping his wings once and conjuring up a surprise avalanche of boulders in the form of a Rock Slide!
