“H-hey!” he retorted, aiming to lightly whack his partner’s arm. “I-I am not scared!”

…the way he said it and the way he stared into Memo’s eyes were two different things, though.

“I-if I give up now, th-then I’ve lost!” he continued as he returned his attention to the movie on the screen. “I’m gonna tough it out…”

(He didn’t finish the rest of the sentence, though.)

Looking back at the screen, he could tell that there was something coming up.

“I s-swear if something just comes running out of th-those trees…”

“Someone’s excited,” he continued with that same smirk on his face. Damn it, he was still red everywhere.

“I thought you liked presents. Unwrapping them all, stuff like that.”

Clearly the ploy was working…

While he was busy sorting, he couldn’t help but sneak another small piece while he was at it—look, he was hungry again!

Chuckling quietly, he then looked over at the repurposed ‘cat’ tower, where most of (if not all) of his own Eeveelutions were contorted or squished into various forms of rest.

“What, you wanna dress ‘em up like the seven sisters from The Little Mermaid?” he cackled. Well, some of his own Eeveelution army were male, so it would be a mix of female and male merfolk, then!

“Or do you have any better ideas other than Snow Wooloo and the Seven Kids?” he cackled again, realizing that the ovine herd would probably throw a shit fit if they weren’t dressed up, either.

One moment he had his eyes closed and was leaning against the cold grain of the table, next he realized his center of gravity had shifted and it was now… warmer.

And the moment he peeked out from his new position, he let out another arrested noise of surprise, before feeling his face turn red right on cue!

“Oh my fucking god, I’m so tired,” he all but whined at this point, this time settling for his partner’s shoulders as he leaned against him; never mind if his hand was now becoming rather… undone the way the other was tackling and trying to get the knots out of it.

If he could scream in multiple languages, he’d have done so already.

(And proceed to look like the screaming cat emoji he so favored in their little dirty private chat, but shh.)

“Th-this is how I wanna spoil you! If not cover the whole price of the thing we’re gonna buy together, at least let me cover half! What else money do you have hidden away?” he wheedled, almost practically whining at this point as he shook his arms in an empathetic gesture.

“…or are you looking to get more tracksuits from the high-end side of the Lilycove Department Store?” he drawled, finally drawing his arms across his chest and giving him this look that bordered between unamusement and sheer incredulity.

Kyouya the Braviary, for the duration of this entire exchange, was just watching the two silly humans… arguing. Or talking? Whatever, it sounded angry! Or exasperated—yeah, let’s go with exasperated for 200!

The moment he heard the loud noise (it kind of sounded like a snap… or was it a slap?) he squealed and then made to hide behind the lamp post where his Sableye made him wait.

What the hell made that sound, why was it so loud?!

He continued to hide behind said lamp post until he saw a blur of purple approaching, mouth turned upside-down and now gesturing towards the—

“Loki, that was you?!” he gasped as he made the mad dash forward, never mind if the lights overhead from the lamp posts he passed were flickering—hell, did one of them pop and short out?!

Either way, it didn’t take too long for him to find…

“Frog!” he exclaimed, making the crazy skid-dash forward and immediately, for all 6’1 of him, scooped the other man up into his arms.

“A-are you okay?!”

He was actually expecting Frog to laugh along with his joke, not shriek like a girl the moment the mini horde of… Swalot… began to stink up…

And then it dawned on him why his partner had literally screamed like a girl.

“Y-you might want to c-calm down!” he exclaimed, reaching for the bedside table and throwing out a random Pokéball; which then transformed into…

Carina, the Ribombee.

Who absolutely did not like being woken up from her beauty sleep!

“Carina! I know! I’m sorry! Can you help?!” he continued, his voice going up several octaves as the rank stench of the Poison Gas began to linger—and she immediately wasted no time; never mind if she was a Fairy-type (partially) and knew that Poison-types would fuck her over.

The cloying, overpowering Sweet Scent propelled from the tiny Ribombee’s wings then began to fill their bedroom; hopefully the damned Swalot would just… go away!

“You need me to open a window or something so we can yeet all the Swalot out?!” he exclaimed, looking over at his panicking, near-hysterics partner.

They had to wait another thirty minutes before the previous Incense had been fully burned out and disposed of properly, before returning back to the same scene with a new one…

What, he had quite a lot of these! So far, though, he’d only managed to find one of the new birds, so… he knew he was going to be out here for quite a bit.

His Hawlucha was looking down from the same branch that it was lounging on, watching as he lit the new Incense and left it at the base of the tree before climbing back up to join the Pokémon.

“Yeah. We continue to wait.”

The next Pokémon that came shuffling their way was… unfortunately, not the one he was looking for. He actually had to do a double-take because wait, what was that?

Aw, it was Idun… or rather, a species-cousin of his Pidgeot. He already had one of his own, though, and he knew what a proud little jackass she was, and so therefore left this Pidgeot to its own devices.

The Hawlucha gave him the stink-eye in answer.

“What? It’s not what we need!” he hissed back.

“Simple, but ultimately—yes, very useful to know,” he nodded in agreement.

(Even if his own doubles-style battling sucked ass, too.)

The moment the macarons were spotted, they stole the show entirely. He couldn’t help but laugh at the expression of glee on the greenette’s face.

“I wasn’t sure what flavors to make them, so I played it safe and went for matcha for the Natu, and the Pidove one’s vanilla,” he continued with the same sheepish expression.

“Did I get their profiles right?” he added with another laugh. “Even piping the icing decorations for the Natu creeped me out, I don’t know what’s up with their stare! It looks like it’s following your every move.”

And don’t get him started on the Xatu line, the stares of that evolution line were even worse.

“You had me at macarons,” he chuckled as he then whistled sharply once; before watching his Archeops and Braviary fly over to join them.

“Kyouya, you already know. The Archeops… well I haven’t picked a name for him yet… but you know how it is. These things take time.”

The roaring of what would be recognized as a Salamence would echo as whoever this… whoever this was approached the cell and continued to literally cause a ruckus.

Only, instead of familiar words, there would be rather familiar words interspersed with the unfamiliar language…

Some of the words even sounded like “idi nahui” and then a few words later, “blyat!” before a string of crisp curse words would tumble out from whoever was headed her way.

“I fucking swear, if you don’t let me get her now, I will have my Salamence raze you alive!” he continued to yell in Russian, clear danger peppering his words if they didn’t get the fuck out of the way as fast as possible!

“Hand me the key to her cell, now!”
