”And get my Pokemon poisoned in the thick of it all~? That’s a bit of a rash suggestion, don’t you think?” he shot back with a brief hum, dripping similarly with another form of venom—however lightly coated—that masqueraded beneath a front of amusement.[break][break]

…Even then, though, it was a more than decent idea.[break][break]

Lobbing a Pokeball high enough to evade the gas would be easy enough, in any case— and it hadn’t taken entirely long for him to note a silhouette enshrouded beneath the toxins looming upon and around them, either. Just as he found himself straining against the noxious fumes a bit too much, the dual-spherical form made itself present amidst the gradients of violet, its identity only further solidified by the signature cries it was known to make.[break][break]

Just as she called it. A Weezing— and one that seemed to be consistently pouring a Smog out throughout its travels.[break][break]

He gave a nod as azure hues lifted to gaze upon the Safeguard conjured before them, all before tapping a finger against one of the Pokeballs that resided upon his belt. With a familiar flash, a Fletchinder manifested before him, trilling with an equally as familiar greeting as he flapped his wings.[break][break]

”Rad tebya videt, Garnet,” he hummed, chuckling with a smile. He nodded towards the toxins afar, watching as his bird followed suit before reaching into the bag he’d brought along. ”Can you use Tailwind for me, moy dorogoy? Up, if possible?”[break][break]

A simple enough command— and one obeyed without missing too much of a beat. The trainer watched as the bird trilled a second time, shortly, before gliding off and conjuring its own, momentary winds to begin sending the gas away from their direct vicinity. In the meantime, he brought his attention back towards the selfsame area they found themselves within, and—with the veil of poison lifted—spotted a Furret that seemed to be writing.[break][break]

He hummed gently, clicking his tongue and furrowing his brows in a sense of pity before carefully beginning to approach it from behind, taking a little while to ensure he meant no harm before taking one of the selfsame antidotes he’d mentioned and spraying it onto it.[break][break]

He continued along the pavement accordingly, turning corners and outdoor corridors until trailing into slower, lighter steps. It took him a moment to note it, but the sight of a gaseous form seemed to begin filtering from down the newest alleyway— but rather than that, it was the deteriorating environment around them that caught the majority of his attention.[break][break]

”God damn...” me murmured under his breath, brows furrowing alongside a surfaced grimaced beneath his guise. For the amount of effort it had taken to prepare everything that morning, he couldn’t help but feel a bit gladder than intended upon seeing the beachfront before him. Needless to say, the summertime heat had always been nothing short of blistering—especially within its seasonal apex—so once every so often, he thought of whatever events to aid the community. Water was a much-needed companion in times like the given, so what better way to give trainers and their Pokemon a break than a little water works?[break][break]

Cheap prices to both clean and rejuvenate Pokemon, with proceeds going to book charities.[break]
Volunteers being given free books for volunteering to help.[break][break]

A win-win situation, truly— and one he found himself engrossed within as he finally finished his rounds and found a moment to relax beneath one of the many gazebos for shade. Not too long after he’d sat back down, however, he’d only glanced to the side for a split second to see a blur rolling by, all before he gave a soft wheeze of equal parts confusion and shock as it bowled into his ankle.[break][break]

Word on the street was that there was a poisonous smog nearby.[break]
The irony, given his recent activities.[break][break]

Yet unless the toxic smokes he’d dispelled alongside his companion had somehow traveled across entire cities, he knew he was in the clear— and so he had little qualms in lending a hand with aiding others that were affected by other masses of fumes that plagued the area. Poison Powder, Sludge— maybe even a Pokemon’s Ooze that secreted from its body as it crossed the way.[break][break]

He hadn’t quite known how the area became so toxic, yet when MARISOL SIMONE had talked about it in her most recent visit to his store, he figured that it wouldn’t hurt to lend a helping hand.[break][break]

So he walked through the city with a low hum, passing her a glance, alongside a musing, ”So where did they say the smog was?” as they walked along. ”How many Pokemon were affected by it, too? I’m sure you have your own medicine, but I figured bringing a few extra antidotes wouldn’t hurt, too…”[break][break]

A simple task in itself: clear out the nearby fumes in preparation for a soon-to-be mission that a few others would be embarking upon soon. Truthfully speaking, there wouldn’t be any harm or foul in letting the proper officials deal with the mishap, but the sooner the mess was cleared up, the sooner the others would be able to do whatever it was they needed to do.[break][break]

There was always a body of water relatively close to where he lived in his youth, though a simple riverbank always seemed to pale in comparison to the bountiful bounds of the ocean, itself. There had been times within his younger years in which he visited the shorelines of Undella Town, or perhaps even ventured the streets of Castelia, and it had been within those places that he found himself in inheritance of a sea-borne affection.[break][break]

Freeing, it was. Inspiring.[break]
And so he found himself returning to the shorelines so often.[break][break]

Many times, it had been hand in hand with another— yet as he sat there upon one of the many, jutting caressing the further outstretches of the tide, he simply sought for little more than the peace in those moments. The sea had quickly become a trusted companion after his arrival in Hoenn; its status and closeness as equal as the pen and booklet he carried with him so fondly.[break][break]

in spite of the distaste that came with the familiarity of extravagance, there had always been a part of him that enjoyed the glamour of it all. initially, he hadn't quite intended to attend the event, given the general themes and likeliness to be whisked from one attraction to another, but alas, after some prying from other friends and acquaintances, he found himself at the mercy of the gathering, nevertheless.[break][break]

for the most part, he merely took it upon himself to idle alongside those that had goaded him into attendance, but upon noting the announcement that sounded overhead, he'd given a curious glance towards those with him. in the end, he opted to ascend to the aforementioned dining hall with another friend of his while the others passed on the dining offer, instead turning their attention to the rest of the gambling floors.[break][break]

so he made small talk with said friend— though not long after taking their initial seats amidst the tables, the writer couldn't help but cast a gaze throughout the audience to-be, noting a particular someone that seemed to be eying towards his companion on occasion. one glance had been a coincidence, but from the second onward, he couldn't help but smirk to himself before nudging his friend and nodding towards the other's way.[break][break]

soon after, he dismissed himself after spotting someone vaguely familiar to his own person—though not without placing an order of the miltank steak, and ensuring the server knew where he was relocating to—before sweeping himself along, gliding swiftly and quietly along the dim isles as the show began its course.[break][break]

"small world, seeing you here," he commented with a chuckle, eyes befalling upon MARIA LANARO-MATISSE as he nonchalantly pulled a nearby seat out, taking it for himself. "looking for someone else to swindle? the usual~?"[break][break]

WHAT CAN BE LOOKED UP

Unova-born. Comes specifically from Icirrus City, and is the former scion of the company his parents inherited from their parents: Skyveil Entertainment. Not necessarily blue blooded, but he and his surname definitely hold prestige because of the company. Another family member took his place after he rescinded his role-to-be in the company.
Shaky familial relations. Because of the above, he may or may not have the best relationships or views with and from his family and vice versa. He's found his own passion in life, but he'd publicly denounce most of his family without skipping a beat.
A self-made author, albeit under a pen name that he doesn't necessarily associate with openly. Said pen name is Damien Orkov. Otherwise, is a very dedicated reader and hobbyist writer.
Owns his own establishment. Unovan-styled, and a hybrid between a somewhat more extravagant, multi-floored and lofted bookstore, alongside a small restaurant. Affectionately named Between the Lines, patrons can freely choose between perusing the pieces of literature available, if not finding themselves a spot at the food court to seek a bite or two.
Previously owned another store. Also a bookstore, and was more or less the foundation and prototype, of sorts, for his current establishment. Formerly located in Castelia City, Unova, this selfsame store was called The Page Turner.
Formerly engaged. Only several months before he was due to be wed at age 27, his fiancé passed away in a fire— one that actually resulted in the destruction of his first establishment, listed above.
A semi-recent Unovan immigrant. He moved to Hoenn once his bookstore was a month or so shy of its grand opening in January 2023.

Eagle is the moniker he goes by during Rocket missions, alongside hit activities.
Skyveil Entertainment supports the organization through both funding and supplies, alike— especially the Unovan branch. Because of this, the company has been involved in numerous scandals despite its overall success in both prosperity and producing talents (most scandals, if not all, swept under the rug).
Between the Lines, alongside being his daytime establishment and passion, is also an archive of Oriel's files, as well as a potential meeting ground for Rocket individuals. Locked behind security and other personnel, these records and rooms hold information about noteworthy figures that he's personally researched, alongside any information that may have been debriefed in past debriefing sessions for reference.

PERSONAL SECRETS

His fiancé's death was intended. The public sees it as an accident, but it was a hit made by rivaling associates after his family crossed the wrong people. This is ultimately why Oriel stepped down from the family company, instead going on to pursue the murderers for an end goal of vengeance.
Ice skating? Ice skating. Absolutely something he got into because of his fiancé.
Familial misunderstanding. He's been condemned for disowning his family and leaving his post; something he plays along with for simplicity. In reality, he left in an attempt to minimize potential crossfire damage should things go wrong in his pursuits. Despite not always seeing eye to eye, he loves his family, and has more or less been playing their villain as a means to keep them distanced and—in his mind—safer.
