Although he’d intended to return to the shelves as swiftly as he’d called his greeting, he found himself faltering upon his feet while barely beginning to turn away. The sight came before the voice at first, but regardless, hues of a navy-touched slate remained upon the newest visitor to his establishment as she made herself known.[break][break]

”Oh, Miss Hasegawa~!” he called back, his brows raising as an intrigued toothiness had interwoven itself into the smile he’d worn. ”You’re right on the money, yes— the one and only~.”[break][break]

For only a moment’s worth of time, he watched as she walked her way along the lobby’s space, guiding herself to the steps leading up to where he stood. With the cart he’d been tending to swiftly becoming a secondary note, he embarked upon a brisk—albeit short lived—stride towards where the steps met the loft proper.[break][break]

”I’ll admit— I’m surprised you actually took the time to drop by~,” he mused, offering a hand out to her as she neared the topmost steps of the staircase. ”How’ve you and the casino been since the party?”

A slow day in all of its glory.[break][break]

Just like always, there had always been the occasional patron strewn throughout the interior of the store, claiming their respective seats and lingering to read whatever books they’d purchased or picked for perusal, alike. Compared to other days, however, the trail of activity found itself dwindling, leaving those within—staff and visitors, alike—savoring a quiet spell amidst the aromas of the specialty cafe located upon the premises, alongside the gentle melodies that accompanied the place through the speakers.[break][break]

While some of the staff tended to other parts of the storefront, a certain, ashen haired man found himself maintaining the lofts located just above the entryway. A small cart of books remained by his side as he gently ran his finger along the spines of those aligned before him, murmuring softly before finding the space between titles he’d been looking for. With a finger left to mark its place, he quickly reached towards the cart to pluck a tome from its contents before placing it where he’d initial marked.[break]break]

He’d barely been able to turn his attention to another shelf before noting the gentle chime of the front door below. With a small hum, he took a short lived stride towards the railings protecting the edge of the floor.[break][break]

”Welcome~!” had been his simple greeting, paired with a smile nothing short of welcoming as he eyed the lobby beneath him. ”If you need help, let us know~!”

He chuckled, a coyness gracing his expression as he watched her.[break][break]

A wordless thought, yet one that may as well have been conveyed, nevertheless, by the look upon his face. He merely hummed softly at her denial, eying the tips of her ears all the while.[break][break]

He shrugged with a touch of nonchalance.[break][break]

”Whatever you say, krasnaya~,” he chuckled, turning with steps leading away from the shelves.[break][break]

With that same, lazy smile strewn upon his lips, he peered through the main lobby of his store, briefly observing those sitting and passing through with more nods and the passing, ”Hi~,” or, ”Hello~,” as needed, all before slate hues found themselves upon the front desk. Like before, he met eyes with the very same man he’d silently communicated with before, giving him a small nod before slipping through and settling himself beneath the counter.[break][break]

”I don’t see why a call would be necessary,” he mused with an idle hum once situated, ”but I guess I could humor you if it means that much to you~.” He rose a brow towards her, offering her a brief look before preparing the registers for another checkout. ”Rather needy of you to need a call to help with browsing, though, if I’m free to be honest~.”

Her hand left his by the end of the small venture he’d guided her upon, and he held no resistance whatsoever. Rather than that, he merely stepped to the side once more, eying her with an ongoing spark of amusement within his gaze as both of his hands returned to their pockets.[break][break]

”Now, were there anymore books I could help you get~?” he hummed, raising a continuously teasing brow, ”Or are you gonna keep standing there looking flushed for a bit longer?”

”And I’ll hope they’re respectful, wherever they are~,” he chuckled, slate hue narrowing amidst risen cheeks as his grin broadened further. To say that he dwelled beneath oblivious waters regarding where her eyes had been would have been a shot away from the truth— because in the grand scheme of things, noting details had always been a strong suit of his.[break][break]

For her, however, he would make a wordless exception.[break][break]

And so he merely remained close by as she’d begun to situate herself, only to find himself springing to action soon after— and instinctively, to boot. As she remained upon the top steps, he’d shifted his feet between either of the ones belonging to the ladder—a means of security and insurance—and reached out instinctively as she stumbled. With a gentle, yet swift touch, he rested the line of his knuckles against the small of her back, all while the remaining hand held itself against the arm she’d stretched for the shelf.[break][break]

With a small, ’Tsk, tsk~,’ in both teasing and concern, alike, he gave a louder hum of faux disapproval while slowly beginning to back away once her security was proper.[break][break]

”Hmm~... This is nowhere to be so klutzy,” he chuckled, flashing her another smirk—a lighthearted chaff—before slowly stepping to her flank. He held a hand up to her and winked while waiting for its invitation to be taken or ignored. ”Come, now~.”

Ah, the motherland.[break]
No matter the region, it was always so delicious to see it surface within another person at their own expense.[break][break]

Though he hadn’t the slightest clue the specific of what she’d said at first, the tone in which they parted from her lips with seemed to speak volumes upon volumes— ones whose worth had been beyond what he’d needed to properly assess the context of. His arms remained crossed as the grin upon his lips only broadened, and while a line of frustration had escaped her, a simple, bemused bout of laughter had eluded his.[break][break]

”No, I didn’t,” he hummed with no shortage of amusement, ”but it adds at least a bit of comedy, don’t you think~?”[break][break]

He watched as she reluctantly shifted further up the steps as needed, leaning to the side to ascertain which specific tome she reached for once able. Though teasing in nature, he remained behind her as a means of safety and precaution; alert and ready to react if needed, but otherwise still basking within her difficulties, even as she found herself eye to eye with him.[break][break]

”Eyes on the prize, dorogoya moya,” he chuckled, flashing a glance between her and the shelves she so desperately reached for. ”I’d rather not have an injury on the premises~.”

Better, but much to his chagrin, it would end up being as best as he could do for the meantime.[break][break]

Though a sense of joy had been sparked by the words he'd written, there was a sense of calmness that enveloped him in both mind and soul following them— one that seemed to have brought his inspiration to a gradual halt. The rest of his surroundings continued on as they always had since his arrival; the waves soothing, similar to the winds that blew through on occasion.[break][break]

In the end, however, they hadn't been enough to spur him any further.[break][break]

So, with a reluctant sigh, he inhaled deeply and slowly shut the booklet within his fingers, hooking his pen within its spiral before gazing out across the horizon. He watched as numerous Pokemon soared across the shimmering tides for a while longer before ultimately closing his eyes and running a hand through his hair.[break][break]

He looked across the nearby beachfront for a few moments once more, pondering to himself at the sight of a few, free tubs beneath unoccupied gazebos. A soft hum escaped his lips before he turned his head towards both trainer and Pokemon once more, nodding towards those selfsame pools of water.[break][break]

”Volunteers get discounts from my store, customers get to cool their Pokemon down, and any proceeds go to charity.” His eyes fell upon the Spheal within her hold again, and he reached out to give it another, gentle pat before raising his gaze once more. ”You wanna take a round or two with your Pokemon~? Y’know, seeing how eager at least one of them seems to be.”[break][break]
