Fumbling around in the dark gave him no clue on how to turn the power back on. Though he supposed he should’ve known better than to just think he would stumble across a fuse box, his luck was nowhere near that good.

The older male’s voice would call out to him in the darkness, filling him with relief. It was good that he had made it.

“I’m good, mostly; I wasn’t expecting the power outage and didn't like the fact I couldn’t really see where I was going. I made Flash come to a stop right away but didn’t account for the momentum and was thrown off. I have a few scrapes and bruises, maybe a dislocated shoulder from where I hit the ground, but other than that, I’m fine,” he said, seeming completely unbothered by the minor injuries he had obtained.

His injuries, compared to what he had received in the past, were nothing. In fact, due to his high pain tolerance, he didn’t even hurt.

“How about you? Are you okay?” He asked, his voice sounding closer since he had the Zeraora guide him towards where the older male was.[break] Raziel Beckett

It had been three weeks since he had been freed from his imprisonment.

And it had been one week since he had gotten out of the hospital.

All in all, the last few weeks had taken their toll on him, and they still weren’t over. Since getting his grandparents back, it has been insufferable. They had barely left him alone for even a moment, especially since he had been released from the hospital.

Though the fretting was annoying, what really made him want a bit of escape were the questions. Just like with what had happened with his father, his grandparents thought talking about what had happened to him would help. However, they didn’t seem to realize he just wasn’t ready.

Besides, he had already given them the abridged version; what else did they want?

It was all of this that led to him sneaking out after his grandparents had laid down for a nap. Sure, he was still recovering and needed to rest, but he needed a break from his grandparents constant hovering.

Releasing Rook from his pokeball, he would consider his options on where he could go.

After some thought, he urged Rook to make his way towards Lilycove. His reasoning was that to feel a bit less stifled, he needed someone who would understand why talking about what he had gone through might not be something he was ready for.

Dismounting in front of his location, he would make his way inside the building, but he was hesitant right inside the entryway.

Before he could actually consider leaving, like he had never been here, Elaine would make her appearance.

So they were going to make a run for it. Not really what he was expecting, but effective if it paid off. If not, we’ll

He gave a slight nod before making a run towards the power station when he was given the station. That didn’t mean he got careless, though. No, he still paid attention to their surroundings, which is how he saw the Stakataka begin to turn their single eye towards them.

At the near hit, he flinched and stumbled slightly. At the suggestion to keep going while Razz took on the ultra beast, his head snapped around towards the older male so fast it was a wonder he didn’t end up with whiplash.

His innate desire to protect those around him warred with his need to follow a direct order. Scowling, he would send out Flygon with orders to provide backup as he swung himself onto the back of Zeraora. “I’ll see if anything in the power station can do anything to get them to leave,” he said as well.

Leaving just as Gaia would use Earth Power against the Stakataka.

Using Flash as a mount, even when not going at the full speed the electric cat was capable of, he managed to close the distance between the power station and himself faster than he would’ve if he were on foot. And this would be with him having to dodge lightning.

His eyes were fixed on the power station when it happened. Suddenly, there was a flash, and he couldn’t see the power station anymore. Had some of that lightning hit the power grid? Or had something happened during the battle that had caused damage to the power grid?

Unable to see where he was going, he pulled hard on Flash’s reigns but didn’t count for how fast he was going, and the momentum threw him off. Grunting as he hit the ground, he pushed himself up, glad to see he wasn’t really hurt aside from some scrapes and bruises and maybe a dislocated shoulder.

A flash of lightning would show he wasn’t far from the base, and he made his way inside.

Once inside, he would release Celestia from her pokeball and tell the Galarian Rapidash to release Dazzling Gleam outside the doorway to show Razz their location so he could get to the power station without difficulty. [break] Raziel Beckett

Unless ordered to do something against his morals he wouldn’t disobey a direct order given to him by a superior. However in the heat of the moment he might do something reckless like riding a mount he hasn’t familiarized himself yet. Also his reasoning for riding Zeraora was so he could possibly get to the power station quicker and send Flash back out to provide further back up if it was needed

He supposed it in a way that did make sense. It would give civilians the necessary skills to get stronger. Though that meant he still didn’t worry, even if there were warnings in place, he just hoped some daydreamer didn’t end up wandering into one of these places by accident; not everyone paid as much attention to their surroundings as he did.

As they continued their trek through the Ultra Plant, a power station would soon come into view. They eyed the power station, coming to the same conclusion as Razz did: that the power station could possibly be used as a place to set up camp.

Before he could think too much about the idea, he noticed it stomping in the distance. It seemed setting up camp in the area wouldn’t be so simple. It seemed like they would have to fight for it.

As if the older male were reading his might, Razz asked if he was prepared to fight. "Yes, I’m confident in all of my Pokémon’s abilities to hold their own in a fight,” he said, his gaze flickering to Flash's, whose attention seemed fixated on the power station in the distance.[break] Raziel Beckett

He didn’t really see anything specifically special about his response. To him, it was just something anyone would do. Well, anyone who had the morals or a conscience anyway.

Besides, he wouldn’t allow himself to be shaped by his past. Some believe family is what you make it, and he would like to believe that. To him, his fellow rangers were like family, and if they didn’t have each other's backs, then who would? That’s the way he saw it.

Hearing the first part of his comment, he started to pause before pausing at the mention of the Ultra Beast. “It seems pretty dangerous; I’ve heard these places are open to anyone, though even those are just civilians,” he said. It was clear he was wondering the reason for that, even if it wasn’t overly obvious.

Wouldn’t it be better to somehow close the places off to the public? He worried about someone not really skilled ending up in one of these places, maybe by accident, and getting hurt.

As he was asked whether or not he had questions, he thought about whether he had any questions before shaking his head. “None that I can think of off the top of my head, but if I have any, I’ll ask.”

While the two humans talked and Marowak used a lightning rod to defend against the lightning flash, he would play Look Out. Of course, if they needed to, they would absorb any lightning that struck nearby if the Marowak missed any.[break] Raziel Beckett

The high praise from Oliver was a bit embarrassing, if he was being honest. Thankfully, he was skilled enough at controlling his emotions that he didn’t outwardly show that the older male’s praise had flustered him. Instead, he maintained his neutral expression as the older ranger continued to speak.

As Oliver spoke of all the ways ordinary citizens could lend a helping hand, he found himself nodding in agreement. Just because one wasn’t a ranger or officer didn’t mean one couldn’t do their part. The sooner these people knew that, the better. They also needed to know the rangers would be there for them, no matter what propaganda started up by the opposing faction would have them believe.

Seeing that the leader of the entourage seemed ready to speak out again, he would choose that time to cut in. He was reminding those around him that, just like everyone else, they were just humans. And being humans, they would be expected to make mistakes.

The older ranger would back him up, even going so far as to challenge the three troublemakers. As they reclaimed the crowd's attention, he could see the three people who were trying to start something weren’t exactly pleased by this. Nor did they seem pleased about the older male calling him out.

“Back down,” the pick-haired youth said, a note of warning in his tone.

He really wasn’t looking to battle, but if they didn't, he would go into battle if there was no other choice.

The leader of the trio would meet his glare head-on before dropping his gaze. "Look, Ranger, all we want to do is keep everyone safe. Sure, we’re not officers, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to see everyone safe any less. I don’t like the conflict with Rocket any more than the next person, but it is what it is. As are the other dangers that make Hoenn’s home. How about instead of being at each other's throats, we help each other out and not forget who the real enemy is?”

The wilds were never a place he had been before. But he needed to get stronger. He just needed to. His abduction had been proof of that. He had gotten careless. Had gotten complacent. And it had cost him.

Due to the injuries he had sustained, his grandparents were worried more about him, and because of that, Volt hadn’t gotten the help he needed in time. He hadn’t been strong enough.

Was it wrong for him to beat himself up over something out of his control?

Probably?

But beating himself up was what he did best. It enabled him to get up and do something about the problem he faced. Which was getting stronger.

It was why, when Razz put word out that he was looking for someone to go into Ultra Plant with him, he immediately jumped at the opportunity. And that was now where you would find the two.

As Razz explained the dangers of the Ultra Plant, he nodded. “We’ll have each other's backs,” he agreed. There was no way he would have Razz be the only one to play protector.

“I have a Pokémon that knows volt absorb; I also have a Flygon,” he would reassure the older male as he returned Rook, the Corviknight, into his pokeball, only to send out Flash, a larger than average Zeraora, in exchange.

Once that was done, he would follow Razz into the domain.[break] Raziel Beckett

With pleasantries out of the way, they could get down to business. Which, of course, was them doing a Pokémon battle. But before that, they would both have to make sure they were on the same page, which involved planning.

“My Flygon here is new to the team. I’m hoping to establish a good bond with her, like with my other Pokémon, through battling. It will also be more learning just what she’s capable of,” he explained to the older ranger, his gaze flickering briefly to the Flygon at his side.

So far, he hadn’t had any trouble with Gaia, but he was well aware of how dangerous dragon types could be. Chances were, if the Flygon didn’t see him as a capable trainer, she wouldn’t see any reason to respect him, which would lead to her not listening to him. What he would need is to show her that he is a capable trainer worthy of her respect.[break] Elinor Anderson

Pain was the first thing he noticed when he came back to his senses.

Blinking, he looked around, confused as to what had happened. He only vaguely remembered what had happened when he had been influenced by the ruinous Pokémon. He remembered getting worked up over what had been done to them more, especially the Megalopolans, who had maybe looked to Cyllora for guidance only to be used by her. Than nothing…

Rubbing at his eyes to try and get rid of the forming headache, he happened to look down to see some of his injuries had reopened. Well, that would explain the pain and the woozy feeling.

He blankly watched some blood drip to the ground below. It seemed like a lot of work to tend to his injuries. What was a bit of blood loss in the grand scheme of things?

zachary stellar's voice would break through the strange fog in his mind, causing him to look towards the younger male. He shrugged and was about to respond, but before he could, Elise Calcifet spoke. "Well, that’s good. I’ll need to get home and tend to my injuries,” he said, his eyes returning to the blood hitting the ground from the few wounds that had reopened.

Mentally shaking himself, he gave zachary stellar and Elise Calcifet a nod, as well as Josh Devlin if he was nearby, before returning Flash to his pokeball and trying to find Elaine Highland before they were sent back home.

If he found her, he would approach her and thank her for putting up with him, and yes, those would be the exact words he used.

Rather or not, he was able to speak with Elaine one last time. He would go over to where people were being teleported away and allow himself to be teleported away.

Much to his chagrin, he would teleport home, where his grandparents had apparently been residing during his absence, apparently out of worry. Upon seeing the state he was in, they would immediately force him to go to the hospital. Along the way, he would give an abridged version of what happened to him.

He spent a few weeks at the hospital, where, just as he had expected, his arm had begun healing wrong and needed to be rebroken and reset.
