[attr="class","snub-fletch"]He wanted to correct the heiress with a 'intent on killing you' retort, considering his primary purpose for being here, but he holds back.

Ever since he'd been given this assignment things had gone wrong one after another.

He clenches his teeth to push through the pain that was, to his estimation, bruised ribs, and climbs out of their modified tomb of stone and sand. His eyes fall on the very items hers had stuck to like glue—bones.

He's quicker to recover, having dealt with things like this his entire life.

"Keep moving. We need to find an exit." The room they'd entered into was wide with dark shadows lurking in every corner, but somewhere on the far end, two dim orbs of light blue pierce the black veil.

He approaches and this time it's his turn to widen his eyes.

A VOLCANION lies crushed beneath a mountain of rubble. Its eyes flick up to meet Fletcher's, mouth opening wide as if to speak. Then, without any preamble, the lights fade and it stills for the final time.

His heartbeat, a thunderous applause in his ears, begins to slow. How ridiculous was it to get frightened of something like this? Age was getting to him, clearly.

"There's an exit over here. Let's go."

Instead he dons a coat and cap and wanders the icy tundra. Imagine his surprise when he finds another warm body with the same thought.

"Oi." He waves back, averting his eyes beneath the heavy swept winds, missing the deaf explanation entirely. "By yourself?"

"What are you do-" His words are ripped from him as the elevator shudders and then drops, the very air surging from his lungs in a scream that comes unbidden.

Force and speed keeps him pinned to the wall, Delilah clinging to his arm, but with considerable effort he wraps a hand around his Pokéball. Rocko, his Sandslash, emerges halfway through the air.

"ROCKO!"

Earth and sand and dirt and grime all collect together as a SAND TOMB wraps them both in a tight ball just in time for the entire elevator shaft to come roaring to its final end.

The job was remarkably simple — at least on paper.

Halfway through pushing the warrant up the appropriate channels he'd received a text.

Stall them.


Tracing the number came up empty; a burner phone that, more than likely didn't survive another minute after pressing send.

The thought made him chew harder on the worn piece of nicotine gum, lip curling in equal parts disgust and frustration.

An entire team was now waiting on his order to go in — an order he couldn't rationalize delaying any further. He could only hope the other person on the end of the line was able to finish what they were after.

Without looking at the person next to him, he speaks in a low, tired voice.

[attr="class","snub-fletch"]Delilah's promise was of little comfort to Fletcher. Her curiosity, much to his annoyance, was more heightened that most. Suppressing a sigh, he gives a half hearted:

"Very well."

He keeps a hand wrapped around a Pokéball in his pocket, just in-case.

Knick-knacks and 'junk' littered nearly every visible surface. His Mawile no doubt would love this place, the little kleptomaniac that she was, and for that reason alone he keeps her sealed in the orb. If the trip back presented no threats, she could come out and play.

Something captures his attention and he stops. On the wall to their right was a massive painting, though the image itself was half-torn and barely visible. Still, what little he could make out, noticeably piqued his interest.

"What do you imagine this place used to be?" He asks the heiress.

His voice held the slightest inflection as an underlying trickle of curiosity bleeds through.

Instantly, it catches the scent of something completely unexpected. Not the type to dilly-dally, Rocko throws the top back and sticks his whole neck-less body out of the satchel.
