moss was looking absentmindedly into some wilderness when he heard a person approach from behind him. moss turned to greet him, but couldn't shake the concerned look on his face. a face that was well beaten up -- scratched and bruised, moss looked like he'd gotten into a tussle recently -- but it didn't seem to bother him too much. the man introduced himself as ollie. he placed his hand almost nervously on his hat. something was worrying him. [break][break]"i'm moss," he replied, "and no, not particularly. i'm from sinnoh." he looked back into that vague direction he'd been staring in and turned back to ollie with a new question on his mind. "hey, ollie -- you ain't happen to see a scared lookin' teddiursa 'round here, have you?"

moss was walking down the street eating some ice cream with weezer. it was a nice, cool night, and coming into the city from the neighboring routes was a nice reprieve from the quiet of the wilderness. together, the two wandered down the dark streets none the wiser. they passed an alley -- moss noticing a van being packed or something -- and moss continued on, licking his frozen little treat happily. "man, that place makes some good ice cream," moss said to weezer, "don't they, weezer?" he looked down to gauge his little buddy's reaction.[break][break]his little buddy was not there.[break][break]his heart dropped in his chest, and his ice cream fell off the cone. whatever, it didn't matter. he rushed to the alleyway just in time to catch a glimpse of orange fur behind the closing door. the lady didn't seem to notice he'd climbed on... moss shouted something nonsensical as she got into the truck and began driving away, and chased after it on foot for a moment before realizing that it'd just get away if he let it. [break][break]he shoved his hand into his pocket and retrieved a pokeball. "c'mon, doodles! we gotta hurry!" in a flash of light his altaria was summoned, and he hopped onto its fluffy back. thankfully, doodles was a large altaria (or moss was small, or both), and was strong enough to carry him. "c'mon!" [break][break]chirping pleasantly in its sing-song voice, the altaria took flight, and began its pursuit of the truck from the sky.

"royal califer family, huh?" moss had no clue who or what that was, but it sounded cool. a real royal! "did'ja live in a castle? why ain't you there now?" the country boy was all questions now, it seemed. his imagination had been piqued, and he was having trouble connecting the dots as to why and how a member of some fancy royal family ended up deciding to go to hoenn and start a farm. [break][break] but as to growing her own food, moss understood the value on that. "well, if you're on the road, it'll mostly be huntin'. fishin' is prolly the easiest in that regard, if you can find a spot when you settle for the night." he pointed over to grotle. "or, if you got a buddy like tort, sometimes he grows berries in them bushes of his. its good for snacks on the road." having pointed it out, weezer would pluck a little berry from one of the grotle's bushes and munch on it. moss seemed pleased with himself. it wasn't often that he got to talk to people -- let alone give advice to them.

"alright!" moss hopped a bit in place. "been a long time since i battled a trainer. c'mon guys, give it your best! time y'all toughened up! bastard can't do all the heavy liftin' forever." [break][break]and with that, their battle began! despite his heart racing in his chest, moss threw out the first commands with a determination. he thought about doubling up on mochi just to try to take out one of them quick-- but he felt bad, considering how nervous the thing looked, and so he split his attention between the two equally. "weezer, trap 'em in a whirlpool! tort, leech seed!" [break][break]following his lead, the pokemon rushed into action. weezer ran for silver on all fours, enshrouded in a watery aura. quickly, he attempted to encircle the pokemon, trapping the cool lizard in currents of swirling water. tort, on the other hand, set his sights on little mochi -- letting out a cry, the bushes on tort's back glowed, and out burst several orbs of energy that'd take root in mochi's vicinity, sapping her energy.

moss was just minding his own business. the sun was shining. there was a pleasant breeze. wildflowers dotted the verdant landscape, splashes of vibrant color among the greenery. the day was ending, and the sun's dying light shone brightly in pools dotting the route, ephemeral reflections of blue and gold.[break][break]so why'd some muscle-bound meathead have to go and ruin it? [break][break] "huh?" it took moss a moment to process what he'd just heard. and then his expression shifted. confusion turned to irritation turned to anger. "huh?? little guy? huh??? what'chu mean, little guy? you tryna fight??" moss was all up in this guy's face now, turning to look up at him. in truth, moss was a little guy -- standing at just five-foot-four, the young man was well below the regional average in height. maybe that was lost on him. or maybe it wasn't. either way, he wasn't pleased to hear it. "you got some nerve, comin' up to me and talkin' all that..." he reached into his pocket for a pokeball. so lost in his own soured mood, he failed to consider the unique temperament of his strongest member. he clicked the button to release the pangoro and stood stanced up and ready to scrap. "c'mon, bastard, let's show this guy what's for."
[break][break]thus released, the pangoro -- aptly named "bastard" -- smacked the back of moss' head and made the kid's face eat dirt. moss' straw hat drifted lazily behind, settling on the back of the bumpkin's head where he lay like the saddest admittance of defeat. bastard made a noise like he was chuckling to himself, and then looked over to size up his would-be opponents. the pangoro crossed his arms, twiddling the piece of bamboo branch thoughtfully, and then grinned. from below, moss finally stirred, a low wheeze escaping him as he struggled to his feet.

"alright, weezer, let's go!!" the buizel hopped to attention, a determined look on his face. moss was playing it up for the camera and it was obvious. he cast his arm across the battlefield, landing in the direction of the mantyke. not the goodra. for obvious reasons. "swift, weezer!" [break][break]weezer cried and an array of stars burst into existence and flew towards the mantyke. the mantyke, surprise, would try to dodge -- but each shining star would hit the beast in succession. it would then turn to run, hurrying acrosss the water, which moss excitedly realized as an opportunity to finish the battle. "quick! pursuit!" [break][break]invigorated by the thrill of the hunt, buizel rocketed towards the fleeing mantyke and battered it with an empowered strike, crashing into the water below. the mantyke, defeated, would sink beneath the water's surface to lick its wounds. moss' buizel would then launch out of the water shaking its fur quickly and looking to moss for approval, its tails spinning happily. [break][break]and then moss turned to sierra with a grin on his face. if he had tails to wag like weezer, they would be wagging.

moss watched patiently, with his arms crossed, as sierra took care of the oshawatt and caught it. she was pretty good at that! not as good as him, of course, but good enough. still, she needed a guide, and moss was more than happy to play the role... the exact cause of their meeting -- chance -- was completely forgotten. no, now in his eyes, she was a person that had need to be shepherded through a dangerous cave of wild pokemon. [break][break] and she had a challenge for him! "sure thing! c'mon, weezer." the buizel hurried alongside moss. "i'll show you somethin' real cool to record, don't even worry." puffing out his chest and taking the lead, moss dove headlong into the cave's darkness, hopefully prepared for what was yet to come...
