Maybe he was thinking about this the wrong way. It was hard to imagine there being barriers in the ocean, large, formless, expansive shape of the void that it was.

He kind of just looks at her, for a minute, because it is starting to sink in to him that he is way out of his depth. He came to Hoenn to do research and help a region that seemed, from the outside, to be somewhat in need of environmental guidance. Maybe some gentle, but firm, voices could change some policies and, in doing so, change the trajectory of the region.

But it was so much worse than that. Hoenn wasn’t just suffering a little-- it was suffering a lot, and it was, it seemed, less like a mildly mismanaged environment and more of a Persian toy being batted around by the claws of whimsical gods.

He let his head fall back and looked up at the sky, where the ash-- apparently, possibly, maybe the extended, scattered remains of this kyle lopez-- continued to fall.

Saskia looks miserable, frankly, and Porter’s heart squeezes, while his mind churns through ideas of what he can do to help. He swallows down his ack at being splashed with water, body long cooled down in the grip of his semi-thermal wetsuit.

“Oh, jeez. Here-- ‘yelvi--,” he puts his weight into leaning away and the anchor spins, offering its other fluke for Saskia to balance on.

“It really is. I don’t--,” he stops, mouth opening and closing, because what he’s about to say isn’t exactly positive and he doesn’t think it’s really needed, right now. So he swallows it down and forces a smile.

Porter was still grumbling and groaning about his math mishap. Sansurin must have spotted the Capsakid in the tall grass, though, because he called down a moonblast that burnt a small black spot in the weeds-- perfectly circular-- and the dazed little pepper seed sat perfectly in the middle.

“Oh, jeez, the warden’s never gonna let me in again,” Porter whined. After zapping the Capsakid, he kicked and pulled at the grass to try and cover the damage.
