days after securing an apartment in mauville hills, dane is assigned to defend a rocket hideout not too far from it. some may call it fate; he calls it dumb luck.[break][break]

"they're about two minutes out."[break][break]

he relays what he hears to his partner for the evening. with his identity (mostly) hidden behind his face mask, he turns and asks,[break][break]

"are you comfortable fighting in a SANDSTORM?"[break][break]

the call disconnects, leaving him all on his own at a farm on the other side of mt. pyre. he had run into the elderly couple when they first visited the mountain a few days ago to look at plots to bury their deceased lotad. 'our dear lottie lived to almost ten years!' until it died of natural causes.[break][break]

ten years is not long enough.[break][break]

so, on a different day, dane offers them his sympathies by helping them watch over their farm while they're away at the funeral. they tell him someone else will join him on his watch. they also tell him to be wary of hungry predators.[break][break]

as dane walks around the farm, he starts to suspect their lotad may not have died of natural causes as they said it did. it was likely chomped to death, the poor thing.[break][break]

hearing footsteps behind him, he turns.[break][break]

they don't talk about it much as he doesn't share unless asked, but the fairchilds were responsible for tending to the cemeteries in mahogany as well as the one at the lake of rage up north. for that reason, dane has always been comfortable around death.[break][break]

suits him? he may be a single and relatively eligible bachelor but he doesn't want to be exuding that aura. he thinks he doesn't, but if a place like this suits him then maybe he does.[break][break]
