Damn that Ranger and damn that girl. Ameena and Gardevoir were out for blood, and she had nearly tasted victory as the flames sped forward, as the girl foolishly stood in front of the fairy that had guarded them all in the penitentiary and had now become her guardian. Indeed, Ameena had thought the girl would be burnt to a crisp, but she was shielded. Worse still, Necrozma loomed above them all and his laser... [break][break]

Well, Ameena had witnessed enough of Necrozma's power to know better. [break][break]

It was time leave. Celebi copied her mega evolved Gardevoir and launched a mystical fire back, just as Ameena tugged on Gardevoir's arm to urge the psychic what she'd already telepathically ordered ('Get us the FUCK OUT OF HERE'). Gardevoir, stubborn and filled with blood lust, craved this battle with Yuina so badly it tunnel visioned and ignored the impending doom. "NOW," Ameena shouted, her hand grasping at its pokeball, her heart beating out of her chest - this was her moment of clarity, the bucket of ice water drenching her. [break][break]

She could not trust Gardevoir. Gardevoir's judgement was so skewed, so overwhelmingly hateful, that it would pay both their lives for a chance at revenge. Gardevoir sensed Ameena's shifting loyalties to it and finally yielded, TELEPORTING them away from the laser, but not before a ball of MYSTICAL FIRE struck Ameena and singed her arm where she'd been tugged on Gardevoir. [break][break]

The duo floated above D2. Ameena looked below, panicked and painfully aware that Gardevoir had been the source of her uncharacteristic sadism of late. The emotional roller coaster was not yet over. [break][break]

Montgomery James was below, along with Cillian Quinn and Tempest Quinn . Ameena didn't have the capacity to help all of them substantively, but she could offer each of them something. Montgomery was clearly engaged in a fight, and while she didn't recognize the other woman, it was obviously a Rocket. She could not sacrifice her allegiance for him in Mossdeep, and she could not do it now. Similarly, she could not trust Gardevoir without a short leash. [break][break]

Clinging to her pokemon, she ordered, "Use healing pulse on the waters below." It would help the civilians that she saw her superiors helping, and hopefully offer Montgomery some aid without appearing deliberate. As the curing pulse spread out, Ameena took a long look at her companion. knowing now that she could not bring out Gardevoir again without sacrificing her own mind.[break][break]

Ameena had few hobbies. This was the nature of a woman who spent all of her time researching or contributing to some type of Rocket project. Even her rest wasn't restful, as it fed back into her dream research. [break][break]

This also meant her skillset was built taller than it was wide. In other words, the plants in her house kept dying. [break][break]

She had claimed countless victims, but she still wanted a small blooming Rowap. The colors were pleasant, and the berries were delicious. Hers always died shortly after sprouting from a seed, so she had taken to buying them further along in growth. Of course, those also died, and so she was on her monthly pilgrimage to replace it. [break][break]

Ameena was content enough to wait for the shopkeeper given the gorgeous array of plants she had lined the room with, but the shattering of glass interrupted her serenity. "Lou can help with that," Ameena offered without lifting a finger. Her companion, the perfect posture Lucario, stalked over and offered, first, a healing pulse for her cut. Then, tentatively, he moved to grab shards.[break][break]

"Dangerous times we live in," she commented with a faux grim tone. The coming war hung over them like a guillotine, but the macabre was a source of amusement for some veterans like herself.

"Don't remind me of the Blacephalon," she grumbled after Fern's commentary. The damn things had done their best to blow up her, Gwendolyn, and half a city block. Their temperament was unpredictable and their lack of self-preservation only multiplied their danger factor. She feared the Megalopolan mob not half as much as she worried about the exploding ultra beasts. [break][break]

She was admittedly glad their route minimized contact. [break][break]

She followed in line with Nenet and the Clefable that seemed a little standoffish towards Zev if she was reading his body language correctly. A few questions sat poised on her tongue, but whatever she could glean from a conversation would change nothing about their mission, so she let it pass. Instead, she considered the Tapu. "I have yet to fight a Tapu," she said with an obvious glance at Fern. There was a concern more pressing than the deity they were going to find, and that was the one they were going to summon. [break][break]

"Has anyone traveled through a rift summoned by Necrozma before?" Would it kill them? The otherworldly being would have no attachment to her, so would it abandon her in another world? She felt no one had addressed the cufant in the room, that this was a huge amount of trust to put in one another - or, at least, for her comparatively powerless self to put in them. [break][break]

Even with that hanging over her head, she couldn't have said no. The potential knowledge on the other side of the rift outweighed any cost.

She had yet to meet Father Winter. From the sound of Matias' earnest sharing, she wasn't sure she was interested in it, even if he had special prowess to show people hyper-realistic dreams. [break][break]

She tried to read between the lines. "Do you think you are carrying parts of these recent dreams with you?" Was it a bad thing? She didn't have a complete transcription of his dream with Elisabeth; the corrupted data had hindered most of it, and it was nearly impossible to parse meaning of what was left. A picnic, a oil slick, an earthquake. What any of it meant, she couldn't say. [break][break]

"Are you here for advice, or for a cure? I must warn you, a regular sleep study will not reveal much - those are primarily for REM data and apnea evaluations. If you are asking me to look into your dreams... it will require my Musharna." Not strictly illegal, no different from an effective dream eater mechanically. Certainly nothing to advertise publicly, of course.

"Nice work," she reiterated as the two of them pushed the Megalopolan mob back. "I expect we will find some notes on the Ultra Beasts inside the tower. That should help answer your questions about Ultra Space." Ameena had her own questions, but she didn't suspect Megalopolan notes would close the gaps in her understanding. [break][break]

Dozens of Rockets had been here before and pulled information from the source. No, this was about showing Gwen how you could make scientific advancements if you took risk. Risk was the gateway to opening Gwen's mind to Rocket. That, and seeing how many opportunities Rocket alone could provide. [break][break]

29 become ensnared by a guzzlord's pincer like tongue that undulates to draw you and/or your pokemon within its endless gut.
30 reach floors 2-4 of the lesser megalo tower. these floors are pitch-black containing extremely violent and maddened megalopolans hiding among the debris. moving to a higher floor will require repair of the elevator in the future.

Oh, that was interesting. She had a theory that Avatars and those that had experienced space-time rifts had a different interaction with infinity energy and consequently had more control in the dream realm than others. The idea, though, that the patron itself could pick doors... why, that warranted study. [break][break]

The odds of getting him in a study again were low. [break][break]

"More real," she repeated slowly, chewing on the thought like gum. "What makes it feel real?" [break][break]

She considered his question. She knew little of him, but it would do her no favors to pretend otherwise. "I know little of him. I believe he has some sort of manipulation over space." How much of the DRK could she reasonably reference? Unfortunately, she did have minimal grasp on the Triad.

Ameena ducked underneath the attack of the Lokix. Its tackle had been fast, but Ameena's sense for danger had ticked her off before it struck. [break][break]

"Sleep him." Musharna obeyed, yawning at the bug. Her sleep-inducing prowess was unmatched among her pokemon. The Lokix prepared another strike but succumbed to the sleepiness it felt. It fell on its face, making it an easy target. "Nice work, Munna."

What did it mean to pity Cresselia? [break][break]

Could it be Cresselia was trapped between two realms? Her apathy could be a result of Her own position being stuck outside the dream realm, that She felt fractured Herself. Why else would one pity Cresselia? Could they know She had a bigger part to play? Ameena couldn't imagine. If everyone 'outside' - DRK and Megalopolan - thought their world was wrong, could Cresselia be related to that? [break][break]

Her mind spun with the possibilities. [break][break]

But standing around would not reveal any answers. She knew in her heart that her choice was made for her, here. "I am in," she answered. "I cannot miss such an opportunity. Whatever the cost, we will claim Her."

Lulu's recall of the last mission there reminded Ameena of the vital fact that gods were all dangerous. She couldn't forget that, as easy as it was to apply a docile nature to anything overseeing dreams. Cresselia had the capacity to be violent just as much as She had one to be sleepy or sedated. "Cresselia knows about the instability?" [break][break]

It shouldn't be surprising given that it's Her domain. Still, the apathy was hard to believe. She was stunned at the prospect that Cresselia didn't care about the fracturing of the dream realm. [break][break]

She gathered herself once Lulu shared her assertion. "We will take it by force," Ameena confirmed, "if we have to. There is too much on the line to lose this fight. As the world grows more unsteady, we need more avenues." To explore, to experiment, to escape.[break][break]

That was it, wasn't it? That she wanted a life boat. If she could not fully complete her research in this world, let her find another. She could not let this victory slip through her fingers. "If you have any combat data on Cresselia, it will be worth review. I have been strengthening my pokemon to prepare for the war; I will be ready to face Her down if... when, things turn ugly."

Cresselia was a hell of a pitch. She knew Amor had left Nebula in howard slayte's hands, so he was the man to harass for space travel and related missions. At least, that team was the one she trusted with the task. "Last I heard, Cresselia was staying on the moon. Are you planning an excursion?" Space travel should have sounded more out-there, more crazy. But so should everything, really. [break][break]

She watched Lunatone rise. She considered confessing her latest sin, that of the sleep study, but she wasn't ready to voice it. At the very least, she needed to talk to Cillian before confiding in his sister; she owed him that much, for the invasion of his mind. Her Porygon knew to share the information with Lulu if she ever sought it - which she might, if Ameena died at the hands of any of the admins who'd been indoctrinated in the study - and Tempest already owned a copy of it. [break][break]

If nothing else, she hoped it would teach them something. She was still trying to repair the data. [break][break]

"I have never been in the company of a god." Ameena had little frame of reference for Avatarship or even for being in audience of a deity. "Do you think Cresselia would be a guide or a teacher?" To give away something so precious so freely... she didn't think it possible. She figured they would have to tear the secret to the dream realm from the god - a bloody, terrible affair.

She wondered if he was lying about not having a theory. She was, however, in no place whatsoever to accuse nor pry. "Very well. You are welcome to all of it," she said as Porygon finished transferring the zip file to Tempest's device. "I will take your advice about not approaching the others alone."[break][break]

It would be difficult to approach them at all without a solution. "Whenever you are available, Musharna and I can run you through a semi-conscious dream experience to see if we can find the source of your mind's upset. A solution to your problem - and that that everyone else is likely suffering - will make it easier to mend things." For as much as she valued her own hide, she did feel particularly guilty for harming Tempest and Cillian in particular, who had been nothing but helpful to her to date. [break][break]

And taking them away from the scientific community seemed especially cruel, but it wasn't a thought worth articulating aloud. "Your memory and quality of sleep should improve once we've re-examined the dream. My current theory is that, if the study followed its original trajectory, you've forgotten something... and we just need to restore the memory." The study had been designed to see how once psyche could influence another; additionally, when given a choice, the study would see how frequently people chose to forgo their current reality, and how many wanted to hold onto it.
