Kantonese food was not one she indulged in often, but there was a small hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Mauville, tucked beside a rotten alleyway, that produced the most decadent broth in the world. She had hired their team to cater an important meeting at her company, and the business relationship formed had resulted in her getting the details on her favorite bowl. [break][break]

So she got to work recreating it. She pulled out some Slowpoke tails, one of the underrated pokemon originating from Kanto. She favored psychic types naturally, but the Slowpoke was seen as a lacking pokemon. However, her first encounter with them had been the variant species in Galar. They had a considerable battle prowess, and thus she held Slowpoke in high regard. And, in this circumstance, the flavor and texture of their tails was going to put her over her competitors. [break][break]

She chopped up the tails while her broth simmered. The tails went in easily, along with the Tangela noodles. Once everything played well together in the pot, she poured a generous portion into the bowl. The blue-pink coloring looked satisfying, but the added chopped green onion pulled the dish together.

The ecologist angle was solid. The two of them looked concerned with conservation rather than theft. "What are you hoping to find out here?" She knew the other woman loved shiny pokemon, but this area would specifically spit out water types and poison types exclusively. She wondered if Himiko had a specific goal, or if she just chose the area out of convenience. [break][break]

"I need a stronger water front in my team," she explained as her own rationale for coming. Psychic pokemon were versatile and their prowess gave them innate mobility, but it was important to have a strong force on the sea because of the coming war effort and the sea-based properties that would require assault and defense in the coming days.

"Sounds like a plan," she confirmed as they walked through the streets. It wasn't long before the tower they sought flashed in a blinding light. Ameena flinched, but otherwise was unaffected, though she sympathized with Gwen's annoyed pokemon. "That light is going to summon all..." As she spoke, it was clear that all the Megalopolans in the area were mobbing towards the tower. [break][break]

"We will want to start from the top-down, then." They would want to fly up to the tower at this rate and work downwards. The entrance to the tower was going to be swarmed even if they ran there like a Zeraora. "Keep your head on a swivel for any Megalopolan that tries to get close to you. While they want the light, they are still dangerous."[break][break]

She found her gaze gravitating to their mouths, passively. They were a cannibalistic people, and she would hate to explain that kind of wound to a doctor if Gwen got bitten. Instinctively, she pulled Gwen close and tucked the girl against her side as a metal-ridden Megalpolan walked close to them, though it was tunnel-visioning on the tower. [break][break]

"Like Necrozma," she said breathlessly as it passed. The shininess of the metal was a lot like crystal, the very otherworldly kind that Necrozma bore and, consequently, Zev materialized.

She had held his breath as his radio pinged. What was he going to do? He called his colleagues off, giving them an opportunity for a longer conversation and for Ameena to better entice him, but then - [break][break]

Fire. Smoke. The loud, numbing silence that comes after a sound that can burst ear drums. [break][break]

Then, she saw him, not yet getting to his feet as she was - years of training telling her to never stop moving after the launch of an incendiary device, as the sapped adrenaline will make immobility too enticing. She rushed to his side with a stagger, reaching to roll him onto his back. "James!" She couldn't hear her own voice. [break][break]

Through their telepathic connection, she urged Gardevoir to act. Both of her psychic pokemon sensed her distress: Delphox grabbed the KO'd Claydol while Gardevoir and Ameena dragged the Deputy to the parking lot outside. "Set off the alarm again," she instructed Delphox, who generated light screens inside the building and triggered lockdown and a police alarm again. [break][break]

"Do it," she said to Gardevoir, who had hesitated even after Ameena's mental command. The psychic was unhappy to assist a Leaguer, but she had little choice against Ameena's steel will. Gardevoir used healing pulse on the Deputy to aid with any concussion or smoke inhalation. Gardevoir looked to Ameena pointedly, and finally, she conceded. "Okay, fine. We can take our leave." She looked back to the warehouse, which they should have plundered, but... oh, well. [break][break]

She could live without the steel, but a recurring pattern of losing against the Deputy on her Rocket missions would spell trouble later. "Burn it." Delphox and Gardevoir both launched mystical fire until the warehouse was a conflagration. Then, the trio teleported from the location, leaving James and his Claydol to be discovered by arriving forces.

Swarm behaviorism could not be considered an area of expertise for her, but she had done research on psychic influence on behavior, so perhaps that avenue could be fruitful, and they could manipulate wild swarms of pokemon to disrupt the League. She wasn't so sure about it being pointless to hide what was obvious, as subterfuge and false leads and misinformation were excellent tools of war, but perhaps it would have been pointless this time. [break][break]

Tensions had been brewing for too long for anything else to erupt. [break][break]

"I was thinking from their perspective. Who they might take as a tit for tat. But I really cannot say, now that you mention our unity. I suspect none of our publicly-known members appear weak enough to the League to try for. But they are certainly out for blood." Kyle made it personal. And personal made soldiers stupid, but also desperate. [break][break]

Mt. Pyre offered them no concrete proof of his passing, however. "I suppose we will know soon enough, as to your initial question. If the League had faked his death to have an upper hand against us in a battle, we will see it before long. If the League does nothing stupid, nothing extreme, in response to that death, I suspect something else is afoot." But death of a leader could rally an army just as much as it could cripple it. It wouldn't be long until the dust cleared.

She could use a big bad to focus her energy on. "And bragging rights," she tacked on as they walked down the left path. "It is far easier to find them in their home country; for all the different pokemon we see readily in Hoenn, I have always found Galarian pokemon to be the least frequent visitors." It was a good for her, however, since the sight of them often brought a melancholy. It felt like a punch to the gut. [break][break]

"But if you find yourself in desperate need," Ameena said, flinching at the sight of the PROTECT that worked effortlessly to deflect their assault, "I make an annual trek to Galar, and I can bring you along." The trip was actually a sore spot for her in many ways because of how difficult it was to handle the memorial of her mum, but it would be nice to spend that week with someone with an alternate agenda. Hunting for specific pokemon could be a satisfying relief, after. [break][break]

Gardevoir used psychic once she felt the shield was about to go down, trying to time it based on the bird's body language. "There we go, Gar," she praised.

"I have no shortage of resources for competence. But you have to be willing to accept a condition." While they were both members of the same organization, loyalty to the brass was far more important than loyalty to another Rocket. It meant she had to be a little careful about her hired help. "You will need to agree to an NDA." Not totally unusual for a white hat hacker. "And if you find any sort of connection between the company's servers and my personal servers, you must alert me immediately." Her face was completely stoic despite her own Rotom's pleased buzzing at the hacker's. Rotom tended to disrupt any momentum or serious atmosphere she crafted, but she needed to walk it around so it wasn't so high-charged it possessed everything in her laboratory the minute she released it. "There is research there that cannot be made public in any circumstances. The release of some of it would bring punishment from our admins and underbosses. I hope you understand just how vital it is that that never happens." If her dream research about the higher-ups was ever released, she would be killed instantly, she was sure of it. Or, perhaps they would take their time.

She hadn't seen this one around before, but she often interacted with hackers within her own company, Abundance Connections, and had little connection to external parties. "I was hoping to borrow you for a security test on my own systems." Some after hours activities shared among her internal cybersecurity team had left their manager no choice but to let them go, which meant her systems still needed testing in the meantime. "I am Ameena Abadi. You are Missingno., right?" As she spoke, her Rotom companion began to edge closer, making some of her hair strands stand on end. She clicked her tongue at it without turning her attention away from the grunt before her which had him back off a few feet.
