Knight swallows as Harrow dashes towards her opponent. There's a brief moment when the Tinkatuff and her hammer fly forward as well but somehow Harrow's the one that wins that exchange. He grins, "You're incredible, Harrow!" Hopefully that would help her to feel more encouraged since this fight had to be ending soon, right?[break][break]
A part of him knew that his Charcadet was pushing herself too hard but another part knew she'd never forgive him if he recalled her or ended the fight prematurely. So he had to just believe in Harrow and what she could do, "Now, strike back with Incinerate!" He encouraged.[break][break]
Harrow was speedy. She moved herself into position, switching from being in front of Sona to her left side and attempted to coat the other 'mon in her flames...[break][break]

Double Lave Plume might have been a bit too much. At least for Knight, he wasn't able to watch the end of the fight to see exactly how Harrow had triumphed over Delilah -- he only knew that she had. Of course, while his 'mon was clearly tired and needed to be healed, the battle wasn't over yet.[break][break]
Harrow looked sharply at him over her shoulder, as if she could read his mind and Knight nodded, "Alright... You want to keep going?" This could be her last attack for this match-up so Kay had to pick something good.[break][break]
"Well, alright, hit her with a Flame Charge!" It was evident that his Charcadet favoured a more melee approach, which might work to her advantage if she didn't give Cass' Tinatuff the space to swing her large hammer around. Knight bit his lip as he watched.[break][break]

As Josh suggested his Dewgong, Knight approached the Pokémon with a smile, "Nice to meet you Ulysses. We'll get on great, yeah? Please take care of me!" He wasn't sure how he was supposed to mount the 'mon at first, and studied the saddle with some care. More care than Kay normally gave to anything.[break][break]
He had never considered himself a fearful person before but something about the water made him hesitate for a second. Luckily, Josh was there to help with that as well. Knight took in the instructions and, with only a bit of awkwardness, did as he was told.[break][break]
As he sat in the saddle, Knight hugged the Dewgong slightly. It was weird! Bobbing in the water like this but Ulysses seemed to be doing his best to keep them as stable as possible -- for that, Kay was super grateful. After a few minutes of this, he felt more at ease and held onto the Dewgong the proper way.[break][break]
Watching Josh get onto another 'mon with such practised ease made his chest tighten with excitement. Would he be that cool some day? Knight hoped so![break][break]
"That sounds cool, having that history with your Pokémon. I got my first 'mon at ten too! It was an egg my parents gifted to me and he hatched into a Farefetch'd!" Maybe there would be a chance later on to let Josh meet Fitzwilliam. For now, however, Kay had to survive the whole Aquatic Ride Lesson! [break][break]
He nodded as Josh explained a bit more about riding Pokémon and then laughed, "I can feel it in my thighs already but I'm determined to do a good job today. I don't want to let anyone down." Not Ulysses, Josh or himself. It would be cool to be able to head back home tonight and let his cousin and best friend know he had succeeded. [break][break]
Ulysses seemed to sense that they'd be moving soon and allowed himself to merely drift into position next to Josh. It was subtle enough that Knight wouldn't have noticed only he had been looking at, and talking to, the Gym Leader, "So, what's the next thing I need to learn?" He was growing a little more confident the lower he spent in the saddle.

Knight didn't give much attention to those two Pokémon while he watched Captain Nariya's Type: Null at work. It was his first time seeing this kind of Pokémon in person, and it was just neat to see it doing its thing. [break][break]
And with good timing, the Type:Null revealed his missing Poké Ball at the same time a Scatterbug appeared! "Thanks, Lathiel, you're awesome!" He hoped it was okay to praise someone else's 'mon like that. Sure, if it was Thea or Cass it would be okay since he knew them and their Pokémon pretty well.[break][break]
If the Ranger had a problem with it and let him know, he'd be sure not to do it again![break][break]
"Perrin, let's get that Scatterbug~! Can you use Peck so it's easier to catch?" His Rookidee hopped a few times to signal his compliance before he took off into the air. A few seconds later, he circled back and dove at the Scatterbug! A direct hit! Of course, Knight felt a bit bad but he knew it was good to get experience like this too.[break][break]
With a slight smile, Kay tossed the same Poké Ball that Lathiel had returned to him and aimed for the Scatterbug.

He yelped at the sudden voice, not expecting anyone to talk to him (despite this being a public area...) but he thought he recovered quite quickly. Knight got up and then looked at Fitz, "Oh, um. I hatched him from an egg when I was ten so... Seven years?" Kay didn't know why that mattered or why this stranger was interested in that.[break][break]
Fitzwilliam didn't seem too bothered. He puffed out his check as he proudly hefted his giant leek over his shoulder. Knight watched his 'mon with a fond look but he realised he hadn't even introduced himself or Fitzwilliam. "I'm Knight, by the way. This is Fitzwilliam. Over there is Chani." [break][break]
And then the guy would tell Kay his name, right? He hoped this dude wasn't a Team Rocket member, about to snatch away his beloved Farfetch'd!

Had the heat doubled? Knight made a face and took another step back. He held up a hand to protect his eyes as the two Charcadet continued to clash in the middle of the beach. He was pretty sure he had heard Cass call out another fire-move.[break][break]
Knight didn't think about this Pokémon's ability. It went zip out of his head as he watched the two evenly-matched fire-types do battle. It seemed like Delilah got a good hit in, which caused Harrow to stumble for a moment.[break][break]
"You got this Harrow! You can do it!" Knight encouraged, "Hit back with your own Lava Plume!" [break][break]
He watched as Harrow steeled herself and then summoned more heat, more flames -- it was a real inferno happening right now. Knight was forced to take more than a few steps back this time.[break][break]

He knew it! Loot Guard was an awesome person![break][break]
They didn't seem to mind answering all of Knight's questions and when they mentioned Kalos, he gasped, "Where is Kalos? It sounds far away." He didn't want to say it sounded fake (which, really, it kind-of did) but Knight wasn't too great with Geography so it really was no surprise he had no idea where it was.[break][break]
"But that's cool, how do you like living in Hoenn then?" It was all he ever knew so Kay was slightly biased. He just thought Hoenn was the best![break][break]
At the Ranger's directions, Knight and his Pokémon moved into position. He looked left and right, dramatically, as he expected someone to just jump out right away. Knight pictured it being someone from Rocket and having to tackle them to the ground! And then Loot Guard would work their Ranger magic and the day would be saved![break][break]
Knight was so distracted by this daydream that he didn't notice the sound of snapping twigs as someone (or somemon) moved through the trees nearby -- the perfect cover for an act of thievery!

Knight was almost as bad as Gominha and Zeus, wanting to race into the bedroom alongside them (and Fitzwilliam too). However, Thea's scolding soon put the brakes on him and he hovered by the doorway. She had such good control of her Pokémon! Knight grinned at his cousin, "You'd make a good Ranger too, some day... Or do you plan to take over your dad's dojo?" He had never asked before and he didn't think too hard about his own future either.[break][break]
He piled into the room with all of his Pokémon already, tossing himself onto the bottom bunk but that was mostly to keep out of the way. Immediately there was a small scuffle between Gideon and Harrow for who got to sit in his lap and he ended up with one mon on each leg, "Hey, why don't we transform this room? Into, like, a blanket fort paradise? Then the 'mons can have the top bunk while we have more fun down here."[break][break]
Mostly, he said that to tease Thea's Pokémon (so he was no better than them... Ah, Knight...)[break][break]
"Film! Unless... What game were you thinking?" It was easier to eat snacks while watching a film, in Kay's opinion, so that's why he picked that option. He grinned at Cass, "Wait! Our V.I.P Guest should pick -- what do you feel like, Cass-cass-cass?" As he said that, Knight let out a comically dramatic gasp and dove under his bed for something.[break][break]
And missed her talking about games.[break][break]
A few seconds later and he pulled out his school bag, unzipping it to remove the too-large book he carried (Seriously, one book... Taking up so much room!) and pulled out a Poké Ball. This he held out for Cass to take, "Ta-da! For you!" He had a big grin on his face, pleased with himself for surprising her like this.

Knight knew that even if what he talked about wasn't particularly interesting, Thea would still listen and engage with whatever he said. "We can go together sometime, I'm sure Ben would appreciate some more help or maybe there's another farm out there, that needs us to protect it!" Kat hoped it wasn't the case that multiple farms were having the same problems as Ben.[break][break]
It was bad enough that it happened to Farmer Ben![break][break]
He chuckled at the cheek squeeze and nodded, "You know I'll ask for back-up immediately, if I need it and! Well, I've only caught one 'mon... And it sort of came along with me for food..." He didn't mention which one it was because he didn't want to spoil the surprise just yet. Not that he thought Thea would blab to Cass about Grafaiai! Just! In case![break][break]
Meanwhile, Gideon was running around them both in circles and didn't seem to be getting dizzy. Knight snorted and nodded at Perrin, "Want to see if you can spot something for us?" The Rookidee ruffled his feathers and seemed to puff out his chest. A few seconds later and he was in the air. Knight followed his progress for a second and then smiled at Thea, "Aren't our Pokémon awesome?"[break][break]
"And I'm hoping Perrin will-- Oh, he's spotted something over there!" Knight pointed and then rushed off towards some trees, ducking through the plants to see what Perrin had discovered for them. He just assumed Thea would follow along as well.

"…And then! We went to visit this farm and help out. The farmer was called Ben and he was super nice!" Knight blabbed as he walked alongside his cousin. He had convinced her to travel outside of Slateport City but they were going to stick to a route nearby. After all, they didn't want to venture too far and make his uncle / her dad worry![break][break]
Perrin, Knight's Rookidee, happily hopped along behind while his Karrablast, Gideon, was running ahead. Knight was hoping to catch a Pokémon today and show off his skills (newly taught by Loot Guard) to his cousin. He had already explained all about the Ranger and their run-in with the Grafaiai (which he planned to give to Cass).[break][break]
Knight came to a stop and looked around, "Here seems like a good spot to find some Pokémon! I even have a few berries left over from the ones that Loot Guard gave me so we can use them if we don't want to fight."

Knight was chuffed to shake hands with the farmer and felt a bit proud to be trusted. He knew it was mostly to do with Loot Guard being there but maybe someday, if he became a Ranger, he would get to know people like this and be trusted for real![break][break]
And he didn't mind a bit of hard work either! Part of him was rather excited to see around a working farm too. He listened Ben explained the situation and was unable to control his expression. He really didn't understand why people stole Pokémon when it was fairly easy to find one in the wild and capture it (either by force or by friendship)! [break][break]
He shook his head and turned to Loot Guard when they spoke about getting started.[break][break]
"Lead the way and we shall follow." Knight said, gesturing to Chani and Victor as well. The Honedge seemed to hover close to Knight and, if Loot Guard or Kay paid enough attention, they would notice the hesitation. Because Victor wanted to be close to Knight, to hold onto him with his blue cloth but he was scared he'd do something bad...[break][break]
The trio happily followed Loot Guard and Knight had a bit of bounce to his step, "Did you grow up on a farm then? Was it a Miltank farm? What was it like? Where is it? Do you go back and visit?"

The heat hit Knight like a wall and he hissed. He took a few steps back as it felt like the hairs on his arms were getting singed too! It was incredible and, if he tried to look across at Cass, it was just waves of heat in the air turning her into something like a mirage.[break][break]
Only he knew this wasn't some kind of daydream -- Delilah and Harrow were just fiercely competitive and seemed to enjoy testing each other's limits. While they still used their fire moves, it was evident that it wasn't so much the fire, but the physical contact between them that was taking its toll.[break][break]
"Back off a bit, Harrow." Knight commanded and his Pokémon obeyed. She dashed back a few paces but kept her stance ready and her gaze on her opponent. Kay could tell this was very serious for the Charcadet. [break][break]
With a few seconds of breathing room, Kay considered what to do next, "Try another Flame Charge!" He suggested and Harrow didn't hesitate to carry out the instruction. [break][break]
Dashing forward once again, she summoned a vortex of fire and intended to use it against Delilah.[break][break]

What a lucky day! A ranger showed up and seemed willing to help him out![break][break]
"Nice to meet you Captain! I'm Knight Naito, from Slateport!" Well, that was where he lived currently. Technically he was from Fortree City... He took in the sight of the Seismitoad and smiled at the trainer, "Cool 'mon!" His own Rookidee was still on his shoulder, taking it all in. Neither of them had come across this Pokémon before.[break][break]
A second Pokémon was released and Kay took a step back at the unexpected appearance, "Wah-- Oh!" He quickly understood what Captain Nariya intended and nodded, "Sure, that sounds good to me."[break][break]
Trying to be brave, Knight took a step forward and held out his hand so the unfamiliar Pokémon could do what she needed to do. After all, she belonged to a Ranger, so Kay knew she had to be good -- right?[break][break]
Just then two bug Pokémon rushed from a nearby bush which startled Perrin off Knight's shoulder. The winged 'mon recovered quickly but didn't seem too impressed by the interruption. Knight, on the other hand, didn't mind too much but grinned, "Karrablast! I know that one, I have one!" He watched as the two bugs seemed to be racing each other. Huh. He looked back at Captain Nariya, "Seems like they're having fun?"
