"I might do Ranger stuff! Or well, I've met some cool Rangers and I like the stuff they do... Maybe I can do like a trial test thing through school?" Knight wasn't sure how all of that worked out. He watched as Harrow climbed up to join Gominha on the bed and hoped the Wigglytuff wouldn't mind the company.[break][break]
He was rather fond of Thea's Wigglytuff and was probably the most guilty of spoiling her, "Does Gominha need an extra pillow or some snacks or--?" He asked before Cass' reaction to the Grafaiai drowned out everything else.[break][break]
Kay laughed loudly, thrilled with the reaction he had earned for the surprise, "No name so feel free to give him one, just a warning that he uhh seems to be a bit food motivated." After all, the Grafaiai had come along with Knight because he had promised food. He gave his best friend a sheepish smile, "I told him you'd take good care of him though!"[break][break]
It was always worth it to see his closest, most beloved companions happy. Knight opened his arms to offer Cass a hug or, if she deflected him, to latch onto Thea instead.

A school trip had been arranged to Dewford and Knight had signed up immediately. It was rare he got a chance to travel around Hoenn so when the school offered to take them places, he didn't refuse. Luckily, since his school was based in Slateport, it was easy for them to travel to somewhere like Dewford.[break][break]
They were given a free day to do whatever they liked, and Kay had found himself wandering towards Granite Cave. There was a sign-up encouraging trainers to help protect the miners from wild Pokémon if possible, and to warn civilians away from excavating rocks themselves. Of course, Knight knew this didn't stop a lot of people.[break][break]
He hesitated at the entrance of the cave and watched as a few people headed out again. They seemed to have had a good time in the cave and were chatting excitedly about their morning. Inspired by this, Knight charged ahead -- until he walked right into someone. He forgot how dark caves could get at times, despite the lights set up at intervals.[break][break]
It was in one of the lightless spots that he had collided with someone, "Oops, sorry! Are you okay?"

It wasn't unheard of that, on a noticeboard at school, there would be warnings and posters pinned up. A lot of it was for older students to help, if they could and to warn younger students to be safe. Knight had read one about Combee going wild! And he wanted to help, if he could![break][break]
Which led him to here, now, standing with his hands on his hips as he let out a low whistle. A good distance away was a group of Combee that had gathered around a tree. They formed a tight cluster, so Knight couldn't tell if they had a Vespiqueen with them or not. Either way, they were definitely part of the problem and Knight had to decide how to proceed.[break][break]
"Maybe I should have asked someone along for back-up." He mumbled with a glance to his 'mons. Thea or Cass would know what to do -- or a Ranger! Kay had run into a few of those lately and it gave him a yearning in his chest. To join the ranks and be one of the good guys, helping out Hoenn![break][break]
So he was about to turn and leave, to head back into the City proper and see about rounding up someone else to help him, when he noticed someone coming in this direction. Something about their face was oddly famila-- "Oh Arceus, it's the Head Ranger!" He could have fainted from shock right then and there! What was the Head Ranger doing here?!

"We're not lost... Just a little... Turned around..." Knight muttered as he looked left and then right. He had chased a wayward 'mon down Route 103 and off the road, into the thicket, and now? He frowned with his hands on his hips. The sun had started to go down and he knew if he didn't get home before bedtime, his uncle and cousin were going to be worried.[break][break]
If only he had brought more than just Victor with him today. Perrin could have scouted around for him or Fitzwilliam would have hacked a path home. He smiled at the sword Pokémon and then looked around again.[break][break]
Maybe if he closed his eyes and listened, he would find the way home! Excellent idea![break][break]
He did just that and was almost certain he heard a fire...? Or something snapping... "This way!" He said with cheerful confidence to Victor, who floated close to his trainer. It wouldn't be great if they got separated.[break][break]
Without thinking twice, Knight hurried through the trees and towards the growing pool of light ahead of them, "Freedom!" He yelled and at the same time, he tripped over a tree root and came crashing through a bush, collecting mud and twigs along the way.

"It's okay, I just want her to know I appreciate what she did." Knight explained, more to the Type:Null. He knew Pokémon had all kinds of personalities and he happily embraced them.[break][break]
But next came an important lesson for Knight to learn.[break][break]
He had completely ignored the Incineroar and allowed himself to just focus on the Scatterbug, which left him vulnerable. Perhaps Captain Nariya being there made him feel safer but regardless, he had been forgetful and dumb.[break][break]
As he picked up the ball that held Scatterbug, the other 'mon readied himself to attack, and Kay let out a yelp of surprise. But he wasn't ripped to shreds because Shaylin and her Seismitoad took care of things. He was amazed to see how a Ranger Captain could easily handle a situation like this.[break][break]
The Incineroar ran off and Knight gave Shaylin a grateful smile, "Thanks, I didn't--" but he was cut off as he watched a couple more Pokémon appear. Had the vibrations of the ground summoned them somehow? From one side was a Nuzleaf and from out of a hole in the ground came a Durant. He glanced at the Captain, "Do you want to catch either of those?"

Yeah, he was going kinda slow wasn't he?[break][break]
It didn't feel like it to Kay but when Josh encouraged him to go faster, he paid more attention to how Ulysses was moving (and compared it to Josh and the Barraskewda he was riding). Huh. "Okay, yeah. Let's kick it up a notch!" [break][break]
And Knight did squeeze a teensy tiny bit tighter on Ulysses' sides. The Dewgong responded by going at what could be compared to a brisk walking speed -- but Kay gasped, "Woah!" It felt like he was really zooming now! There was a slight breeze causing his hair to dance as they moved through the water.[break][break]
He kept a good hold on the reins to steer Ulysses and after a few more minutes he squeezed a bit tighter and managed to adjust to a jogging pace now. He grinned and looked over at Josh, "How's this?"

See, this was why it was a good idea to drag his cousin along. She did smart things like, remember to bring her Pokédex. At least Knight knew where his was -- on his bedside table, under three comic books, with a glass of water on top. So he wasn't completely useless![break][break]
...Maybe a little useless since he hadn't even paid attention to the Grapploct and was more focused on the Pelipper that was lazing in the pond. It had its eyes closed, so he had to assume it was asleep? Or relaxing?[break][break]
"Perfect chance." Kay whispered to his cousin before he gestured at Gideon, "Get 'em with a good Headbutt! Perrin, follow up with Drill Peck! Both Pokémon work in tandem to pull off their moves. There was a little awkwardness as Gideon barely got out of the way as Perrin dove into the Drill Peck.[break][break]
The Pelipper let out a surprised squawk that was cut off when Knight chucked a Poké Ball right at it's head, hitting the same spot that the Headbutt and Drill Peck had hit. Oops.

"Oh, hey -- Woah. Cool 'mon!" Knight took in the sight of the trainer using the Zoroark as a mount... At least, he thought that was what the Pokémon was. It seemed a bit different from the normal one. Kay didn't dwell on that for too long, however, as a Mareep attempted to eat the end of his t-shirt![break][break]
He managed to free himself and then shook his head, "Not sure but there's a farm not too far up this road. I figured I'd herd them that far at least and see if the they belong there?" Knight attempted another shove and the Mareep did move a few steps but then stopped to eat grass.[break][break]
That definitely let Kay know it had moved less due to his efforts and more because it wanted more grass. Awesome. "Do you have any idea how to get Mareep to move?" He asked the newcomer in the hopes he'd have more experience with this kind of thing.[break][break]

This. Was. Amazing![break][break]
Already Knight had fallen victim to one of the Spidop traps but that didn't kill his enthusiasm for this whole experience. He was fine with Bug types (even had one himself) and thought the little web-weaving Pokémon were cute! Well, the Tarountula were cute... Spidops were... Spidops.[break][break]
He had been crouched, poking some web with Victor next to him, when he realised Cass had shouted out for help. [break][break]
"I got this!" He completely ignored the fact Cass was trapped, upside-down, by some webs and stuck his hands into the cat's cradle she had started and helped make a new pattern, "I was okay at these when I was younger, let's see..." He stuck his tongue out as he worked the strings.[break][break]
Next to him, Victor floated closer and attempted to help in his own way -- slicing at the sticky strings with a careful Slash.[break][break]

"Pazuzu... I'll keep an eye out for him!" Knight grinned, already scanning the air above them on the off-chance he'd spot the Pidgeot already. As Josh started to explain about the reins worked, however, Kay was quick to pay attention.[break][break]
He copied how Josh held the reins and nodded as the Gym Leader explained how they would help him to control Ulysses' movements and speed, "Pull left, go left. Pull right, go right. Hey, that's pretty easy!" He was glad it was something he could easily remember, at least.[break][break]
Now everything that involved his legs seemed a bit more complicated, "Squeeze to go faster, ease up to go slower. If I tug the reins, then he'll stop." Knight repeated the instructions to himself but smiled. He felt like he understood what he had to do, at least.[break][break]
And then it was time to go![break][break]
Knight squeezed gently with his legs and Ulysses started to move forward. He wasn't going faster than a walking pace at the moment but Knight felt like he was zooming! He gasped, but with delight rather than fear, and tugged the reins to carefully guide the Dewgong to turn right, following the curve of the water they were in, "Woah, cool! Hey, I'm doing it!"

It's the perfect move and it caught Harrow completely off guard. The hammer connected and the Charcadet was bashed off the field to land near Knight, "Harrow!" He dashed over to check on her.[break][break]
There was a determined flare in her eyes but she was tired, "You did so well! You're amazing, Harrow." He praised her before recalling her to her ball. Now he had no 'mons left for the fight, and trip to the Center to make.[break][break]
Still, Kay was pleased. He got up and went over to Cass to offer his hand to shake, "You did amazing! Thank you for battling me and my 'mons. It was tough but I think I learnt a lot from this." His attention went to Sona and he gave her a thumbs up, "You're amazing too, Sona!"[break][break]
With a smile, he nodded in the direction of the Pokémon Center, "Shall we heal our 'mons and then go for something tasty to celebrate your win? My treat!"[break][break]
