It was so cool when Loot Guard talked about important Ranger stuff! It made Knight feel like he was helpful, since they didn't mind talking about it with him around. [break][break]
Knight also appreciated their concern about him flying -- they noticed it was possibly his first time? Knight got himself comfortable on Moiraine and shook his head, "It's f-fine! I got this!" He just had to be more confident. Hadn't he managed the aquatic ride with Josh's Dewgong? This was sort-of similar...[break][break]
He rose into the air, a bit slower than Loot Guard and definitely not as high as them but Knight grinned, "This is kinda neat! Thanks Moiraine, you're doing great!" For once, Knight's small size was working in his favour. He looked around but nothing immediately stuck out to him... So he hoped Loot Guard could see something.[break][break]
The Ranger probably had special training to spot things like this!

Night (ha) fell (again) and Knight (ha) stumbled onto the main path -- finally! He was pleased that he had managed to get himself back on track and hurried towards the lights of Petalburg.[break][break]
But he didn't get too far as he, surprisingly, ran into Cass. "Yo, Cass!" he greeted her at the same time she asked why he was here. That made Knight stop for a second, and he shrugged, "Dunno." He genuinely couldn't remember how he had got here or why he had come here. [break][break]
A problem for future Knight.[break][break]
"Woah, what are those...?" Kay commented when he noticed the colourful markings on the surrounding trees. Knight spun in a slow circle, realising for the first time how dark it was now, "Wait, what is that!" The sparkles from the jewel crown on the largest Grafaiai caught the moonlight and made Knight squint a little.[break][break]
That seemed... Like trouble.

Knight clapped once Captain Nariya was done with her impressive display, "Incredible!" But all the noise and excitement hadn't just attracted his attention.[break][break]
More bugs appeared from around them, and Knight immediately zoned in on one in particular. "Woah! A Joltik! You don't mind, do you?" He asked out of politeness, even though Captain Nariya had already explained which type of 'mons she was most interested in. He grinned and pointed at the tiny Pokémon, "Perrin, get it with a Peck!"[break][break]
His Rookidee cawed his confirmation and took to the skies. A second later and he dived towards the Joltik but the little thing was clever and jumped out of the way. It responded by using Slash and landing a hit on Perrin, who hadn't expected to miss or for the bug to fight back. What a brave thing it was! [break][break]
"Don't worry, Perrin, you got this. Hit back with Fury Attack!" Despite the Joltik holding its ground, Perrin was able to land a few strong hits. The Joltik fell onto its back and Knight grinned. [break][break]
Before he had a chance to toss a ball, the Sizzlipede seemed to take offence to him trying to catch the spider and wanted to fight him as well, "Uhh, Captain--" Not that he couldn't handle it but... [break][break]
Knight side-stepped to get a clear shot at the Joltik and tossed the ball while Perrin tried to scare off the Sizzlipede.

It was the last full day of the class trip to Dewford and they were allowed to do anything they wanted! No reports or educational tours, and Knight couldn't be happier.[break][break]
"What should we do first? Ice-cream? Beach? We could check out the gym and see if there are any challengers and watch the battles!" As far as Kay was concerned, there were a lot of things for them to do and it wasn't like they got to travel to places like this very often.[break][break]
Maybe one day, as a Ranger, he'd see the sights of Hoenn but for now he was just a private school kid on a class trip. A holiday![break][break]
He waited for one of his friends to chime in and checked to see if his 'mons were doing okay. They probably couldn't wait to get home while Knight was having fun. For now, he just had Fitzwilliam and Perrin out of their balls since Dewford was a lot smaller compared to Slateport and having all six out seemed silly.[break][break]
And maybe a teacher had already talked to him about being more reserved with how many Pokémon he let out of their balls at once.

"I think it's around here... Somewhere..." Knight said, with waning confidence. For the past hour, he had been trying to find his way back to the main trail and out of the woods. The sun had set and he was just growing more perplexed -- how had he got lost?![break][break]
As the woods darkened around him and his 'mons, Knight noticed some weird patterns on the trees around him and he couldn't help but focus on them. They were hypnotising in a way and it was hard for Knight to remember what he had been doing before. He noticed a few bug Pokémon on some trees but his brain didn't compute that they were stuck.

Knight blinked and he was back in that small grove again, the sun bright in the sky. He had maybe thirty minutes before it would set and he had to find a way out of here... Which way should he try next? "Over here!" He said with fake cheerfulness.

If the cosiness of their set-up or the comforting film wasn't enough to send Knight off to sleep, it would be Gominha's snoring. The sound just had this weird effect on Knight, making him super sleepy almost immediately. He fought to stay awake but only managed to watch about half of the film before he had fallen asleep as well.[break][break]
Gideon shyly snuggled close with her new friends. The seemed to know so much about the sky and she was fascinated to learn all she could -- she'd share it all with the other 'mons in her team tomorrow. Gideon smiled as Dermot got some more snacks as she tentatively leaned against Jon's comfy bed and fell asleep herself.[break][break]
Knight's other 'mons had found different pockets of blankets or a cushion to fall asleep on. Fitzwilliam, who'd claim he didn't snore let out the softest, cutest snores while hugging his leek. Chani and Harrow had opted to share some blankets and looked very cosy, even if they made sure to keep to their own space. [break][break]
Victor worried about where to sleep, since he didn't want to accidentally touch someone he shouldn't. In the end, he tucked himself under Knight's bed so he could be close to his trainer. Sort of.[break][break]
As for Perrin? He had perched as high as he could manage and watched the film to the end. Only then did he let himself go to sleep, tucking his face into his wing.

Knight tried to pay attention like Loot Guard seemed to do, scanning the area around them for anything that would potentially work for the Mandibuzz nest. He smiled as Pelipper was invited to investigate with Sylph. He nodded when the Pelipper looked to him for approval and Moiraine happily joined her new friend.[break][break]
"Oh, that sounds good! And yeah... This might just do the trick..." Knight said as he looked around with intense purpose. He could visualise the nest safely tucked up in the abandoned warehouse away from other Pokémon but how the Mandibuzz would be able to take advantage of the numerous other Pokémon in the area. Hey, circle of life![break][break]
Thinking of something else, Kay grinned, "You know, moving Mandibuzz here might also help with the overpopulation of wild Pokémon if she's able to hunt them down?" Moiraine came back with Sylph and, being on the slightly larger size, Knight was able to climb onto her back. It was, however, his first time doing this but he tried to hide any fear he had about falling.[break][break]
Surely Moiraine wouldn't let him fall...?

"Thomas? Cool!" Knight made a mental note to remember the face and the name. Especially if he planned to be a Ranger in the future, he had to get good at remembering people. "Woah a ranch?! That's cool! What kind of 'mons do you have there? I helped a farmer recently and he let me keep a Mudbray. I named him Palleniel and he helps me with gardening and stuff!" [break][break]
Ah, the good old Knight motor-mouth. He blabbed excitedly about wanting to visit the ranch and he held onto the offered business card like it was his ticket to some grand adventure -- which in his mind, it totally was! "How did you get into ranching? Did your parents own the ranch?" Poor guy was going to get drowned in questions if he let Knight continue like this.

As if a dream about Miltank wasn't weird enough, now a cream Pokémon pops up across the street from him. Knight shakes his head, "You should be careful, there are a lot of cafe's and bakeries around here!" It was mostly a joke that the Alcremie might not understand.[break][break]
Or maybe she would. Either way, she seemed like a sweet 'mon and he wouldn't want her to fall into the wrong hands and be forced into some kind of weird, bakery-mon situation. That happened, right?[break][break]
But it didn't feel right for him to catch that 'mon either, so Knight continued on his walk and hoped she would be fine. Something else would pop up along the way for him.

Knight was fine with that until he saw someone rip off their flesh to adorn a freshly-made (fleshly?) statue, and then his breakfast threatened to say hello again.[break][break]
Also, didn't it feel like those statues were watching them? Double creepy. Knight glanced at his friend and could tell she didn't want to hang around longer than necessary.[break][break]
"That's... We need to help them... Something isn't right with those statues." He murmured to Cass, hoping she hadn't seen that part of the ritual. Luckily he had Fitzwilliam with him and that 'mon knew some good smashing moves. [break][break]
Of course, a part of Knight would feel bad about smashing something that didn't belong to him but the more the looked around, the more he was seeing those toxic chains and he knew this was just a no good, terrible situation. He coughed a few times, a hacking wheeze that left him winded for a few seconds but if Cass worried, he threw up a hand to stop her.[break][break]
It was then, with zero hesitation, he whispered, "Fitz, use rock smash on that monkey statue. Let's see if this frees them."

Knight panted as he finally caught up to Loot Guard. Once he had spotted the Ranger, he knew it was probably a good idea to stick close by in a situation like this. [break][break]
He was soaked to the bones thanks to the tropical rain and, despite whatever heat was in the air, he shivered from it. Kay pushed back his wet hair out of his eyes and looked at Loot Guard, "This is bad, isn't it? Like, really bad. That's a Latias..." Hey, the kid might not remember his Rotom Phone, but he knew his legendaries.[break][break]
"Careful, that bridge looks--" There's a groan, followed by a creak and Knight yelps, jumping back, "Okay, we need to hurry and get the bridge evacuated. Perrin, go up and keep an eye from above, Fitz, let's help Loot Guard as best we can!" Despite how confident he sounded, Kay had a throbbing headache and the world around him had a bad habit of spinning.[break][break]
That was info he kept to himself because he didn't want to distract Loot Guard or give them a reason to send him away.

At Loot Guard's prompt, Knight started to head off in the opposite direction. He followed a path that would help them bypass a lot of the inter-city stuff but if his ranger companion saw anything they wanted to stop at, he'd happily oblige.[break][break]
Moiraine was content too. Floating along at a relaxed pace, she seemed to be enjoying seeing more of Slateport beyond the Dojo and the property grounds. Knight hadn't had a chance to bring her out on an adventure before![break][break]
"She seems quite capable and oh? Cubone huh?" Knight hadn't thought about it but now that Loot Guard had mentioned it, there was a weirdly skull shaped bone in that nest, wasn't there? But he didn't say much else as they walked along, eager to get to the Outskirts to see if anything there would be suitable.[break][break]
It wasn't often he'd wander into this area of the city and he was very glad to have a ranger by his side, "What do you think? A know a lot of it is abandoned buildings but..." Maybe if they looked around, they'd see a good spot.
