"A better tomorrow?" Roze had asked with caution, a frown forming on her face, "what better tomorrow is there in a choked land?" everywhere she looked in the clouded desert had been desolate, not a single sign of life emerging from the ashes and cinders, "What children will even remain to see that tomorrow?"[break][break]

There'd been... some semblance of relief hearing that the man hadn't been a part of Rocket of his own accord, that he didn't enjoy what he did. Yet, the sadness in her eyes had remained despite it all, the road to hell was paved by good intentions after all. Roze hadn't been aware of what the man had gone through, nor much of the region's past and she dared not make any assumptions of that she didn't know.[break][break]

Roze had toughed a smile through her feelings however, "this place is my home," she'd said simply, "though, tomorrow certainly is another day, but, for today, I'd like to be able to help one more person for just a little longer," she'd whispered, yet her words seemed to pierce through the howling sands and crumbling glass all the same. She'd noticed a small cave unearthed by shifting sands, a brief moment of respite and to tend to wounds perhaps.[break][break]

"But, again, what happens after all this, Howard? What's your next step once you accomplish all this?" she'd asked, hoping that perhaps she could still convince a good man to avoid a ruinous path.

Roze had found herself amongst a small handful in the dark, surrounded by walls of iron, she'd done her best to placate and calm those around her, promising to do everything she could to protect those few that remained. Blood had been spilt. She'd seen it firsthand, having been in the city when the sudden invasion had begun. The sheer atrocity of it all had left a chill down her spine with adrenaline long faded with her capture. She'd hoped to herself the few people she'd tried to lead to safety had managed to make their escape, thinking back to her capture, she wasn't sure why she'd been spared this mercy at all, what use did--[break][break]

A voice that sounded familiar, yet felt far more alien had answered her question, weariness and pain subsiding in favour of a numbing disappointment that had seized her body knowing what hearing the man's voice had meant. Roze had hoped that she wouldn't have to meet howard slayte like this under his guise as a member of Team Rocket, that perhaps after their meeting in the desert, the next time they'd met had been far more amicable, simple acquaintances who could discuss familiar topics rather than such an antagonistic fashion.[break][break]

She'd remained quiet, even without his halting of any retort. Yet his words were a bitter lump in her throat, a dryness that made her grit her teeth, an altogether negative wave that had her feeling like she'd shed hot tears at any moment. Yet not one drop fell, an act of defiance in its own right that melded still with the remaining shards of concern she still managed to have for the man, the very same remnants that held her tongue despite knowing his identity—some fleeting hope that the kind if foolish man she'd seen before wasn't some sort of facade, that there's a chance he could remain to normalcy, a dwindling hope that splintered with each drop of blood spilt and every fire lit in a once beautiful town that hadn't deserved any of this.[break][break]

As the shadow of a man she'd considered a friend stepped out into light and freedom, his words of attempted comfort had fell short in Roze's eyes. She'd whispered under her breath with disappointment, "a millennia is a long time away, life right now has just as much meaning." The conservationist had put herself between Admin Fox and the civilians trapped with her this entire time, yet with the man gone even briefly, she'd turned back to them, doing her best to reaffirm them and keep them calm, "I'll make sure nothing bad happens to you all, you don't deserve any of this," she'd said in a gentle tone. It had seemed despite the personal conversation, at best it had seemed like the ravings of a maniac to those that hadn't known Roze's connection to the villain.[break][break]

A warm light accompanied by the acrid smell of melted metal pierces through the darkness, a hole burnt through the back of the container-turned-cell in a blind spot, an unfamiliar, tired face with piercing red eyes peering into the darkness from outside, liberation. Roze had moved quickly, too quickly, a moment of falter as pain shot through her arm in her hurry to keep quiet the rising murmurs of the civilians who'd found their salvation. She'd wanted to make sure they escape safely first and foremost.

Despite the man's words, the only thing she'd seen in the distance had been a walking calamity, she wasn't even sure if it was a pokémon. The destruction it wrought so easily far beyond the grasp of any sort of danger or disaster any normal pokémon was capable on its own. Only, Roze wasn't aware that this hadn't been done by the behemoth alone.[break][break]

"... is a last resort like this worth it? This indiscriminate razing of the land?" she couldn't help but say, not even sure what sort of dangers the region was in that would warrant a response like the steel behemoth in the distance. Her expertise was on ecology more so than anything else, yet she'd picked up on the man's use of the word 'golem', wondering what sort of Doctor Frankenstein would so desperately need to make such a monster, and more of them?[break][break]

She'd remained quiet at the man's declaration to kill a god, unsure what sort of reaction she should even make in response to that, simply letting his words sink in as they continued trudging through the desert. A silent march that lasted an amount of time Roze herself hadn't been keeping track of. Yet she was the one to break that silence once more, she'd opted to let the man's declaration remain as is, unsure of whatever response she could make towards it and whether any she could make was even appropriate in any angle. She wasn't going to admonish a man without knowing everything, yet, she wasn't sure whether she even had the right to pry to find out.[break][break]

"... is it easy on you to be part of Team Rocket?" she'd asked, not looking the man's way, simply continuing to take her steps and help him stay steady. Roze wasn't sure what the man was thinking, she wasn't sure she could even fathom his reason to be part of this terrorist organisation nor his desire to supposedly bring down a deity. Nor if she wanted to. Yet, the conservationist had hoped that the concern he seemed to show for her was genuine, that his humanity was genuine. The capacity to care for the wellbeing of a stranger he'd only met twice now.[break][break]

What would that change? What would fundamentally change if howard slayte was a good person? "What happens afterwards?"

Despite knowing that part of the man's views had come from a far longer scale of time considering his profession, there'd still been a twinge of disappointment hearing him call this meaningless cataclysm nothing more than a footnote. She'd remained quiet despite hearing a response like that in regards to the loss of lives and the damage they were facing here and now.[break][break]

She'd turned back to Howard as he'd continued, a brief moment of resentment cracked by the strange sense of duty and concern he seemed to have of her own wellbeing, resentment she herself hadn't even realised she'd been feeling until that ugly spite had loosened its grip upon her.[break][break]

As Howard had delved into his spiral of loathing, it was now that Roze had finally realised the damage he'd suffered, a far more brutal fate than she herself had, held back shock and horror on her face, unsure whether she should even voice her concern if it'd cause the man to realise his own pain and collapse from the mere shock. Yet as his speech pushed to her purpose here in the desert, she'd remained confused, what was her next action?[break][break]

It was a silence that felt far longer and far more awkward for her than it likely had been, yet, she'd banked on the hope that she was doing the right thing, stepping forward, quietly climbing up the dune.[break][break]

"Because I think it's the right thing to do, because the world is a beautiful place if we let it be, that behemoth out there was... no, is a natural disaster, preventing as much damage as possible's for the best." she'd answered in a hushed whisper, not bothering to bring much attention to her actions as she spoke, stepping to the man's right, and getting ready to help prop him up, more concerned for his injuries than her own if he'd allow her to.[break][break]

"Well, that's what I think at least, a far more dour answer would be my own selfishness, satisfaction from affirming my own beliefs, maybe?" she'd added further, "However, I'm not dead yet, right? I can do more to help those who need it, whether I'm actually acting selflessly or doing it for my satisfaction, in the end, seeing the world around me, the environment, plants, pokémon, people too, flourishing? I think it's a good cause." she'd said, making a head motion that seemed to point towards the only thing the man seemed to be focusing on beyond their conversation and her safety, a wordless offer to help him walk some of the distance to the hulking behemoth even if she didn't understand why just yet.[break][break]

"I'm admittedly... not sure whether what I'm doing right now is the right thing to do though, you seem to have some history with Mr. Gwyar, after all," she'd further commented yet she seemed resolute on assisting the man on his current path as far as she could, "but... if I can ask in return, what of you, Professor? Why are you here, doing what you do?" she'd asked.

Left alone to her thoughts, largely undisturbed, perhaps due to her mind focusing on the ash of destruction surrounding her to do its best to ignore the pain in her arm that remained both dull and sharp, Roze hadn't overheard the crunch of glass underfoot over the dancing winds that seemed undisturbed by the desolation wrought upon the superheated, ruined sands. There'd been a slight flinch at the unexpected echo of a voice, turning to an unrecognisable figure with a far too familiar voice.[break][break]

There's clear hesitation on her face, a mix of emotions that she's not even sure she could describe herself, let alone know what sort of face she's making. Yet, despite her worries, her first concern in any situation has always been that "it's good to see you're alive too," she'd said perhaps a little quieter than her usual polite self would voice, another brief moment of hesitation as if even drawing breath to say it would be the wrong move, what had come out was a far quieter whisper, "professor."[break][break]

While she'd been worried about what to do, unsure if she should even associate with someone her own senior had seemed to identify and been aware of, part of her fears that the archaeologist she'd met had simply been a facade for the ironclad man that stood over her atop the dunes. A sense of relief had poured through her body at the apparent concern he'd had over her wellbeing, that she hadn't made the wrong choice.[break][break]

Yet, perhaps it was adrenaline surging throughout her body in its vain attempt to ignore the pain drilling through her broken arm, however, Roze hadn't stepped closer quite yet, still unsure whether she could or should trust him.[break][break]

She'd turned away from Howard, her attention drawn again to the decimated landscape surrounding them, to the hulking figure off in the distance, "... do you think they'll recover?" she'd simply asked aloud, her concern as a conservationist apparent, she'd known pokémon were resilient, yet it still pained her heart. Not just in regards to the wondrous species that called the desert their home, but that she'd had to doubt anyone. It weighed strangely on her conscience to be testing the paleo-archaeologist like this.

A sudden gasp of life. Sputtering coughs, the convulsion of muscle shaking accumulated sand off the girl's body. Roze had shot up with a struggle, wincing and nearly crumpling as a sheer pain seared through her arm. Despite the pain radiating up, she'd flicked her head around looking in different directions, worried. She hadn't spotted her Clefairy, nor anyone else, she'd wondered if she'd been blown away that far by that burst of chaotic scarlet energy. Yet her fears gripped further, what happened to everyone else? To Allende? What happened to Gwyar Wledig and Yuina Higashi? To that odd man onyx straub? Their time together hadn't been particularly long, little more than a couple hours to at best half a day yet, Roze couldn't help but worry.[break][break]

She'd peered down at the poké ball that her Clefairy belonged in, and with that, one major worry had melted away quickly, her Clefairy at the very least was safely tucked away in its ball. She could only pray that the others weren't in mortal danger.[break][break]

Yet, all around her she could only see destruction in the wake of wrath. Her gaze lingering upon the desert surrounding her, the rolling dark clouds leftover from gathered power, shattered glass pooling in the low points of the dunes, searing hot glowing chars marring the land. Whatever vegetation that had once proliferated in these bountiful sands reduced to ash or otherwise choked amongst soot, glass and sand.[break][break]

The destruction brought upon the sands pained Roze's heart, almost more so than the thrumming agony numbing her right arm. Just how were the pokémon that lived here meant to recover from this? She'd frowned, struggling with one weak arm to stand up. Just... what had happened? She couldn't quite fathom the things that had happened today—was it even still the same day? The sudden appearance of giant pokémon, the grand steel behemoth that had brought an onslaught like none she'd ever seen. The sheer damage wrought upon the valley by these dwarfing beasts.[break][break]

Roze had simply stood there, alone in the desert, her mind wandering, contemplating what to do, if she was in any shape to return to civilisation on her own. What of any other survivors? Surely emergency services would make their way here for such a catastrophic walking natural disaster and save those that had fallen in the battle. What of after all this? She'd wondered what the best course of action would be to returning the desert to its original splendor? ... what of howard slayte? She still wasn't sure what to do with this information. She'd barely known the man, yet the small amount of time she'd spent working with him protecting this desert before all this had painted the man as someone trustworthy and caring.[break][break]

It certainly had been the professor's voice behind the mask, yet she couldn't fathom what would bring someone like that to work for a terrorist organisation. Nor why she'd covered for him instead of outing him. No, she knew why she hadn't revealed the man. She'd simply hoped she hadn't made the wrong choice, the conservationist's eyes resting upon the darkened horizon.

"Though they are quite selfless, from what I hear," Roze had added with a smile, releasing the Pancham from the ball only to give her a quick pat on her head, "Rough and tumble but still the same sweetheart at the end of the day," she'd chuckled. At the offer of hanging around the man, Roze had cocked her head at a slight angle, seeming to consider the offer.[break][break]

"I've gotten the extra soil samples I needed for today," she'd thought aloud, "it'd be a good opportunity to study some more pokémon too, this sort of arrangement couldn't hurt," she'd added with a quaint calm seeming happy to stay a little longer. Roze hadn't particularly minded chaperoning if need be, if anything she'd have been worried leaving someone alone out in the mountainous route like this, even if they seemed capable of handling themselves.[break][break]

Yet as she'd been thinking these things, the man seemed preoccupied with capturing a Magmortar, and she'd noticed a Pansear creeping up in all the fuss, seemingly curious about the situation, and perhaps looking for a chance to swipe some food for itself. She'd had a soft smile as she'd offered some crushed up muesli to the little monkey pokémon, drawing her newly caught Pancham over with the promise of a sweet snack to see if the two would make any decent friends together.[break][break]

All the meanwhile she'd made sure to keep an eye on Kouji, hoping he doesn't wonder off too far and end up lost, "oh, do make sure to stay hydrated too, it's easy to parch in such a warm place," she'd called out, as a polite friendly reminder.[break][break]

NOTES/COMMENTS: If possible, setting the thread near the rear of Team Rocket's invasion (even outside Petalburg) is ideal. Tsubaki and Eddie will charge towards the back of Team Rocket's assault to find and defeat those leading from the back, before being intercepted by Howard and freeing Roze from captured custody. On Roze's end having been momentarily in Petalburg for treatment post-Wrath of Registeel and caught up in the sudden attack and having gotten captured in the process of trying to help defend and evacuate a group of civilians.

This thread will explore the aftermath of Hyperborea, Howard's months of training in the fictional Galar, Regice's ascent, Tsubaki's connections to Kanto's Team Rocket, Eddie's warrior mindset, and Roze being pushed into a conflict she is not yet ready for.

A thrumming heartbeat in her ears, intense, beating louder than the cacophony of chaos, louder than the bolts of charged lightning turning the ground around them to glass, louder than the screams and shouts of the devastated. The shellshocked conservationist can't even fathom how she'd ended up lucky enough to be one of the survivors of that point-blank Zap Cannon. Yet, a slight twinge of pain as her Clefairy had pinched her arm had woke Roze from her stupor.[break][break]

The brilliant crimson glow that started to singe the skys, staining their surroundings hues of eldritch scarlet had felt like the end yet, Roze had renewed herself, redoubling her efforts, scrambling to hurry to the group forming the grand shield. The conservationist had done her best to help protect those around us, there'd be only one chance she had, and she'd felt lucky. Perhaps not lucky enough to see this battle against the behemoth through to the end herself, but lucky enough to protect the few around her from the Dynamax Cannon that would scorch this desert.[break][break]

"Metronome, Allende, let's try to save everyone!" she'd called out, one last resurgence of fire in the conservationist's eyes, a fire that burnt brilliantly as the Clefairy's Metronome had turned into a swirl of verdant waters, a grand bubbling whirlpool that surrounded the few that remained, doing what they could to bolster the defenses of priam conrad & Alba Evovae in a beautiful burst of a Matcha Gotcha.

Despite the warnings, despite the danger she'd put herself in focusing upon others, be they friends or strangers, Roze hadn't stopped moving. Her mind had been racing, not only about the new information she'd learnt, not only about the looming disaster overhead, threatening to crush those who opposed it as steel and iron groaned to conform to its master's will. She'd been frantic to help those around her, to keep them moving such that they could continue the battle. Arceus knows there were braver, stronger people than just little old Rosie fighting this behemoth, at least that's what the conservationist had kept telling herself.[break][break]

She'd hurried across the battlefield with her dear Clefairy, both sets of eyes scanning their grass-laid sand-wrought surroundings, the first person she'd seen had been Thomas Benoit, witnessing the man's Ceruledge's dance with danger as it dodged crackling bolts and tried to strike back with its own decisive blow.[break][break]

Her Clefairy had noticed the struggle too, as energy was drawn to the little moon fairy's finger, she'd flicked a glittering orb towards the Ceruledge, a Present that Roze hoped with all her heart would not be Lost.[break][break]

She'd held her breath.

Roze had chuckled at the comment of how much care the man had for his pokémon, "I'm much the same, honestly. My own abode's rather small and quaint, though I refuse to skimp any expenses when it comes to caring for my dear friends," she'd explained. She'd chosen to settle in a small cabin on the outskirts of Dewford, having chosen the locale more for the opportunity for a good environment for a variety of pokémon around her. Despite her lady-like demeanour and mannerisms, Roze seemed much more hands on than most would expect, much enjoying the more menial tasks of pokémon care than relying on any others for it.[break][break]

"Lavaridge? I'll make sure to go visit in that case," she'd confirmed with a smile, though she'd had a slight concerned note at the mention of Team Rocket, "Team Rocket? I haven't quite encountered anybody of the sort just yet, but I hope we can come to a good solution," she'd given her own opinion. Much of her care was towards environmental safety, though Roze hadn't liked the idea of mindless confrontation, nor of falling into the trap of associating any sort of stereotype or stigma over a group, but she'd still be willing to do her job, worst case scenario.

"A little earlier, and I'd have probably said it would be my mother and father, but..." the conservationist smiles warmly, "there's a handful of people I've met in Hoenn who feel like good guides on what I aspire to work towards, a particular archaeologist whose care for pokémon was rather inspiring, and a man of respectable charisma who's been able to make sure I keep a steady line, thus far would be my answer," she'd added further, referring to one howard slayte and Gwyar Wledig in particular.

"Your back's against the wall. You're down to your last Pokemon. Which Pokemon is it and why?"
The conservationist chuckles, "I'd probably rely on my Duraludon, Stormy. While my dear Altaria's my closest friend, well, she'd likely be the first one I'd bring out because of how dear she is to me, Stormy however, he's always a rather stalwart shield and the anchor to my team."

"What is your favorite water-type?"
"I do quite appreciate the brilliant bioluminescence of Fineon and Lumineon, they're rather mesmerising in the night ocean,"

"Describe a new Paradox Pokémon. Go crazy! The whackier the better!"
The conservationist cocks her head slightly, a bit confused by the question, she's only seen a handful at best and she'd figured they were the only ones. "... an upside down Altaria, perhaps?"

"Would you still love a loved one if they were a Wurmple?"
"Nothing would fundamentally change about them, I'd make sure they're happy, safe and live a fulfilling life as the best Wurmple they could be!"

"Do you have a quote/proverb/lyrics that changed your life? If yes, what is it?"
"Not so much changed my life more just... how I've always lived it, but, something along the lines of caring for those around you, sharing kindness is an easy feat, after all."

"What is the biggest lie you've told?"
"I told my parents I'd be fine with cooking on my own when I moved out, it's been a rough road, ahaha..."

"What big or small thing would you do to bring a little more joy into the world?"
"I've always wanted to help maintain some sort of nature preserve where as many pokémon as possible could live healthily, all the brighter if it could be used to show people around the world the beauty of it all,"

"I'm not really all for battling, it's much more a necessity to protect what I need than a sport I chase after,"

"A delicate medium rare with a nice port wine's always wonderful,"

"I couldn't even dream of doing such a thing! Couldn't we just talk it out?"

"Would you want to fight one thousand Durant sized Ursarings or one Ursaring sized Durant?"
"Either scenario'd be rather interesting. What sort of environmental adaptation and genetics would have caused a Durant-sized Ursaring or an Ursaring-sized Durant? I'd love to study that."

"A peaceful day atop a grassy hill under the shelter of an apple tree back in Galar, watching the ocean glitter and dance at the port below."

"I'm always doing my best to make life better for those around me, be they people or pokémon."
