Even though cleaning knives was a tedious task, Mark meant what he said. He appreciated finding someone who shared similar views and interests. Mark wasn’t typically one to make friends without clear benefits, but he felt fortunate to meet a grunt he could relate to. It brought a bit of peace to the otherwise overwhelming training of Project Tower.

Though he’d never directly admit it, Mark would feel lucky to work alongside Makoto again, especially in the field.

It was increasingly difficult for him to stay positive in situations like this. While they had completed their training, their win felt hollow as it was obvious that the Admin had let them win. Mark had no issue with bending the rules, but he saw no point if there was no genuine victory at the end.

He released a sigh and closed his eyes for a moment, trying to clear the negativity from his mind.

"I hope we can work together again," he added before walking off.

Though he couldn't see much of her face, her silhouette and certain features seemed oddly familiar. It was as if he had seen her before, possibly in the records he skimmed at headquarters. Even if he couldn't identify her at first glance, he sensed she carried significant value, purely from the faint recognition he felt.

Meanwhile, Morpeko’s Aura Wheel missed its target, and the rodent was quickly pounced upon by an oversized cat. In the ensuing struggle, Morpeko reverted to its more peaceful mode but quickly returned to its feet. Despite the size disadvantage, the morpeko had a few tricks up its sleeve. With a fierce bite, it latched onto the feline’s paw, a subtle jolt of electricity coursing through with thunder Fang, attempting to paralyze the persian.

"You're right," Mark admitted, a subtle grin hinted in his tone. "I did."

As Giada prepared to strike again with her whip, the porygon-z, connected to the computer’s interface, materialized into the physical plane. Its hovering limbs deftly maneuvered around the whip as it extended, and within seconds, it prepared a devastating counterattack. Relying on the webcam to track its opponent, the porygon-z had been thwarted by the shadows, but now, with Giada’s whip pointing directly to her position, it was the perfect time to strike.

Empowered by the porygon-z's adaptability, a charged up Hyper Beam unleashed from its snout. The powerful blast was aimed straight at the source of the whip, and would slowly track her movements across the room, burning lines into the walls if she tried to evade. This mission was meant to be stealthy, but Mark was willing to resort to anything necessary to achieve his goals.

Taking advantage of the distraction, Mark bolted from his cover and sprinted towards the laptop. He grabbed it from its hovering position on the floor and hid behind the same desk he was using before. During the exchange, the rotom attempted to avoid the whip, but it wasn't so lucky, sustaining a significant slash to the monitor's frame. Despite the damage, relief washed over Mark as the screen flickered to life, displaying the rotom's reassuring face.

Immediately, Mark began typing furiously on the keyboard to complete his objectives, with every keystroke bringing him closer to their overall goal. His ally ’s well-placed USB drive set the stage for him, enabling him to continue his efforts. Within seconds, he unlocked the door for both and , granting them access to the next part of their mission. Like before, Mark's signature symbol infects all of the monitors near the door, animating like some sort of screensaver. Now, all that was left was ensuring the virus made it to the satellite and launched successfully.

[attr="class","mark-inner"]Both Rotom and Porygon-Z were integral to Mark's team. If Fenelle asked for assistance, Mark would eagerly tout their usefulness. His most successful hacks were due in large part to his rotom and porygon-z working together to crack passwords and breach firewalls.

But now wasn't the time for computer-related topics.

Their current trainer, a well-known Team Rocket Admin, expected physical responses. He wanted to see how they could react in scenarios without computers and pokemon. He wanted to see them in action.

"Sword," Mark said, selecting the option for both of them.

His words carried a tone of reluctance. If it weren't for his partner, he wouldn't care to be here. He also didn't particularly enjoy making decisions about things he didn't care about.

With the sword in hand, Mark charged towards the Admin. Working alongside Fenelle, he released a series of strikes with his blade, all of which were blocked by the superior swordsman. The weight of the blade surprised Mark, but he mimicked techniques he had seen in countless videos online. As he went in for a final all-out-attack, Mark maneuvered around the Admin to a place near his rear. Although his attack was blocked, it seemed as if the Admin had let them win, yielding after their effort.

Mark couldn't shake the feeling that their victory was more a lesson than an accomplishment.

His expertise in the digital realm made him believe modern wars were more likely to be fought behind computer screens than on the battlefield. He couldn't picture himself in a situation where he'd need a knife.

"Sure," he responded, returning the knife in his hand to one of the containers.

He picked up the other knife by its tip, holding it in front of his face. His fingertips shook the blade slightly, revealing a loose handle. Mark twisted the knife around, noticing a missing pin from its hilt, the likely cause of the looseness.

"Looks like it's one of the pins," he said, stating the obvious as he examined the blade.

Mark wasn't a master at knife repair, but he'd seen enough videos online to have a general idea of how to fix it. However, the concept was still new to him, and he had no interest in pursuing it further.

"Let's let the instructor deal with it," he concluded, placing the knife back down.

He was only excited because no combat meant he could relax a bit, but cleaning knives was still labor. It was miles away from his true interests, yet it was clear that this training was designed to push them out of their comfort zones, to prepare them for real combat situations.

Accepting his relief, Mark decided he didn't mind cleaning knives.

"Do you normally fight with these?" he asked, as he removed a knife from one of the containers. Despite his preference for digital work, field operations intrigued him. He knew he needed to understand them in case he ever found himself in the thick of things.

[attr="class","missingno-content"]In one swift motion, Mark released his hands from the laptop and scrambled for cover. The sudden attack caught him off guard. The two pokemon connected to the device were momentarily disoriented by the abrupt shift, but one of their levitation abilities activated just in time to save the laptop from crashing to the floor.

"You have a whip?" Mark shouted, his voice tinged with disbelief and pain as he darted behind a row of desks. Once behind cover, he took a moment to glance at his trembling hand. As he peeled off his glove, a deep gash from his wrist to his index finger came into view, the sting of the open wound sharp in the cool air.

"Dammit," he muttered, shoving his hand back into the glove. The fabric quickly absorbed the blood as he secured it around his wrist. For a moment, Mark paused, reflecting on why he was fighting in the first place. He wasn’t here to brawl; he was here to make a name for himself. But to do that, he had to see this through. Clenching the fist of his bloodied hand, he solidified his determination.

"It's about time you start pulling your weight around here," Mark called out to his morpeko, which had been idly perched on another desk, seemingly unfazed by the chaos. In many ways, the morpeko mirrored Mark's reluctance toward combat. However, when push came to shove, both were willing to fight when absolutely necessary. At his command, the morpeko's demeanor shifted instantly. It transformed into its hangry mode, eyes narrowing with a determination similar to Mark's.

A wheel of dark energy began to form beneath Morpeko's feet as it revved up, scattering papers and small items in a whirlwind of power. The room erupted into chaos as the attack launched from the desk, turning the electric-type into a spinning blade of dark energy that sliced through the air towards the source of the whip.
