lisette's pokemon are smarter than her. this is a truth she has come to accept over the years. her gothitelle, once a wayward gothita lost in the woods, now stands tall and proud before her trainer, using its psychic powers to their advantage. it communicates with the other pokemon, and telekinetically intervenes with wild pokemon, leaving no room for error whatsoever. [break][break]

lisette watches it all unfold, occasionally throwing in a command or two, but ultimately leaving the fate of her pokemon to themselves. that's how she's always been — a true, blindly loyal grunt, from even before she joined team rocket. someone like her will never question orders, or even wonder about the reasoning behind it all. she will simply carry out their will, and be unrelenting as death itself all the while.[break][break]

and just then, the sound of footsteps. these routes are busy with the sounds of battle and conflict, both league and rocket trying to dig their hooks into the lay of the land. lisette stands up straight, eyes narrowed at the newcomer. "if you're with the league," she'd begun to say, "turn back. there's nothing for you here." [break][break]

she nods. "they most certainly are." so many rangers have strong pokemon, and it makes lisette burn with envy. if only she were as strong as a ranger captain was, then helping team rocket would be so much easier. but just as she always has, she makes do with what she has. [break][break]

and cillian is with her. she would be foolish to assume they'd be safe just because of that, of course. she watches the way the strangers in the distance stare at them, and realizes a pitiful look when she sees it. [break][break]

"we've definitely caught their attention," she says aloud to him, voice barely above a murmur but still loud enough for him to hear. "they're curious; they're coming our way." at least they're not storming cillian and lisette, but seeing a pair of indviduals walk across the sand bank to reach them does nothing for her nerves. "should we simply play it cool...?" [break][break]

she'll leave the decision to her superior. she is prepared to do anything, either way. she counts the seconds in her head, in the meantime one, two, three, four, five, six... [break][break]

"that makes sense." lisette figures that beyond the obvious wreckage, petalburg is just as beautiful and livable as it had once been. maybe even more with all the aftermath of strong pokemon battling it out here. [break][break]

she follows the direction of temp's thumb and stares at the empty house behind them. it was a nice house, really. it almost reminded lisette of the homes in couriway town, and is just a few good renovations or two from resembling her childhood home, as well. what was the word to describe that awfully mushy feeling, again? la foi. emerald-clad faith of the heart. "i actually don't have a place to stay." not since she was a child, anyway. she realizes that makes her seem like a well-dressed transient, but many people are called to nomadic lifestyles, right? "so maybe i could be a filler." if no one would look twice at her for doing so, she'd scoop up residency in a heartbeat. [break][break]

sneaking around, taking down notes, working in the shadows — all things that lisette has experience in doing. and clover seems experienced in doing these kinds of things, too. they would definitely have to meet again. "yes, let's hope so." lisette would remember this particular vendor for future reference. [break][break]

in the meantime, she follows clover's lead, and reluctantly peels herself away from the stool and out into the market air once more. "ah, good thing you found it. we would have been searching for quite some time if it were up to me." which isn't to say she'd slack off on the job, but sometimes the girl could get lost in her own head at times. someone who was pragmatic like clover was certainly a relief to be around. [break][break]

the hand-off of stolen pokemon was as unceremonious as it was quick. to think that no one else in this place would notice the exchange unless they went out of their way to observe them is a funny thought, indeed. lisette watches as the ferryman returns to the waves, new acquisitions in hand. the sapphire waters lap up hungrily at the edge of his boat, and in a few moments, he's gone. [break][break]

lisette waves back but is a moment too late, and is still waving by the time clover looks at her. "what?" she hadn't been listening. then, it dawns on her. "yes, all in a day's work. i hope we can do this again sometime." still, the night is young, and the aroma of delicious food in the market has yet to disappear completely. "some treats for the road, perhaps? or not." lisette wouldn't mind, but she also would be content if they cut it off here. the night is young, but those with clear minds and fiery hearts are even younger. the woman moves effortlessly. this is what people mean when they say professionals do it better — professors, scientists, doctors. they have a way of conducting themselves that automatically makes lisette think she is inadequate, besides. it is equal parts inspiring and confusing. [break][break]

the no-nonsense blissey has already won a spot in lisette's heart for her odd character. unlike other nurse-like pokemon, this one seems hardened and precise in its evaluation of others. aubre speaks so gently yet plainly, lisette is caught off guard from her own inward thoughts. "yes, it was ariados." lisette had never been to a party in her youth; she would have been amused by the common saying of 'tell the police nothing, but tell the medical professionals everything.' it would certainly apply to this very moment. [break][break]

then the doctor says that the espathra hadn't suffered much, if at all. and what's more, it seems to be thanking lisette. thanking her? for what? for saving its life inadvertently, the young woman supposes. better to be in a human's debt than to be a dead pile of feathers somewhere. [break][break]

she feels a little silly for mistaking its behavior as medical symptoms. "oh... i hadn't realized." she wants to pet the espathra, but she doubts her touch will be as comforting as the doctor's had been. but would it hurt so bad to try...? "so it's in its right mind, after all. that's a relief." she tries to copy aubre's movements, and scratching the bird in its favored place. "perhaps this visit was unnecessary, then. apologies. had i known, i wouldn't have brought a fully-healed espathra to the clinic." [break][break]

"that would be nice." she hasn't seen those specific grass-type pokemon since the day she parted with her grandmother. in the books lisette has read, the elderly often die in their beds surrounded by their loved ones. lisette's grandmother wandered off into the great kalosian forests with her partners, never to be seen by anyone again. she still doesn't know if she preferred it that way or not. [break][break]

but seeing the leafeon and feeling the pyroar's reins, lisette's mind drifts from reminiscence to sheer awe of how professional and experienced the gym leader is. part of her hesitates (why bother making nice with the enemy?) but the rest of her is too indulgent and too selfish to deny the chance to learn from the master of faster, himself. "okay. reins, direction. leg pressure, speed." [break][break]

then it wasn't too different at all from what she experienced. her grandmother's gogoat always loved to buck extra hard during rides, as if he knew that lisette would bounce like a spoink when it did. the memory makes her smile. "here goes nothing." she signals for the pyroar to dart forward, ready to run down the road and see the sights. [break][break]

"ex-boyfriend..." lisette wonders if she'd ever run into madd's ex before. it would be amusing if she had. but perhaps it's better that certain paths never cross. she doesn't try to make rituals out of coincidences, after all. "i see. funny how our loved ones shape our lives even when they are no longer in them." [break][break]

though she wonders if having an ex around, or having a late family member returned to you, would make any difference to how they do their jobs. it's almost comical how human and vulnerable the members of team rocket can be. that anyone could look upon them in their spoink-jewel harvest, and see two women with their fair share of loss and nothing else. [break][break]

"ah. thank you for saying that. she lived a long and fulfilling life. it might be a dream for some of us to live half as long as she did." a morbid truth in the midst of their extreme reality. lisette hopes she can make it to fifty, sixty, seventy years of age. the likelihood of it is low, especially with her own given skillset, but how nice would it be that one day she could be gray-haired and reminiscing on her time spent on team rocket like this? she might even give madd a call and see if her fascinating xurkitree and emotive obstagoon are just as cool and spirited as their trainer is, too. [break][break]

"i'm just about finished here. do you think this is enough?" it's hard to tell what the upper brass have to say about tasks like these, but lisette only hopes to meet their expectations, anyway. [break][break]

the first thing lisette thinks when she sees the lopunny and buneary swarm is, those are not usually native to hoenn. and it is this rare occurrence that makes her want to nab one of the pretty pokemon for herself. [break][break]

though perhaps she leans towards a different type of pokemon to have for her party, she knows the rabbit pokemon are popular with other trainers, and could sell for a pretty penny if nothing else. "let's help out our new friends, shall we?" and her pokemon — especially stufful and roserade — move out to herd the unruly pokemon. [break][break]

relief floods her as tempest puts her worries to rest. she often worries about being a bit slower to complete tasks than other team rocket members, so she is grateful that for once, that is not the case. "i see. thank you." her pokemon certainly appreciate it, too. beyond psychic abilities and the unnatural strength of one fighting-type pokemon, lisette's team does not gravitate towards being physically built. [break][break]

though there is some brief amusement to be found in the sight of a sinistea and minior straining together to lift just one piece of rubble. or at least, lisette lets the smallest of smiles grace her features at the sight. "mm. i imagine this place will look a lot better once restored to its original state. unless it's going to be completely rebuilt, at some point?" [break][break]

she had definitely been given an explanation for this entire process before, but the answer escapes her in the moment. it would be nice to soak in the answers from someone as capable as temp, however. [break][break]

she nods sagely in response to clover's brave comment, agreeing that the best way to find out if one is allergic to something is to try the item in question. thankfully, clover doesn't break out into hives or have his throat close up once trying the dish. [break][break]

her knowledge of things in general is quite limited, but lisette finds that she does not need fancy words to describe how things taste. delicious, sweet, salty, savory — those were adequate enough. "okay. i'm not a huge fan of caramel, but everything else has been promising, so." she lops off a piece of the leppa confection, and chews thoughtfully. [break][break]

then she stares at clover long and hard, agreeing with his statement by adding on, "maybe we can steal the recipe from the owner," in a way that's only half-joking. [break][break]

she leans back in her seat, letting the sounds of the night market wash over her. what a pleasant turn of events this has been. she perks up slightly, a pep in her step as she picks up a rather small clamperl in her hands, ignoring the way it coos as her attentive ears are listening for the words of the strangers ahead. "mm..." the words are faint, but not impossible to hear. spending many years in a forest filled with different sounds has made lisette accustomed to listening out for something specific. [break][break]

with a tilt of head and twist of hand, she returns the clamperl to the water. then says to cillian, "they are talking about the displaced pokemon, as well. they're either good samaritans or off-duty rangers." with capable pokemon at hand, as well. though today's task has nothing to do with engaging the league, but rather observing them. [break][break]

she glances at the strangers, then quickly reverts her attention to the clamperls at hand. "they don't think much of us, either. i've noticed them glance this way a few times just now." which is good, all things considered. she reserves further judgement for the future, if it's needed of her, and simply sticks to cillian's side like a pyukumuku sticks to the underside of a boat. it's hard for lisette to imagine what petalburg city looked like before. the road to one of the pokemarts in town is littered with debris, barely walkable. as she gathers the refuse, as her pokemon help move large broken pieces of metal and wood, she looks up at the sky and sees the mountainous ridges framing the sky — wondering how the broken city appears from above. [break][break]

"i'm just about finished on this side," she calls out to temp. "apologies for taking so long, mr. temp. i'll have my team pick up the slack at once." it feels nice to be a part of something; it gives purpose to lisette's life. even if she hadn't been in petalburg on the day that team rocket reclaimed it, she feels like she can imagine the insanity that went on in this place. scorched earth and broken buildings tell the story for her. [break][break]

she simply wants to help team rocket in every aspect possible. what else is life for, if not to support one's own loyalties? [break][break]
