The squint that Avalon receives from his trainer a few minutes later would be nerve-wrecking if he wasn't made of literal steel. Before he can really feel the weight of Erin's judgment, however, a wild rapidash appears and circles them in a ring of fire.

Erin considers taking it home. She'd always liked horse riding and had only stopped when she moved in to Hoenn because of a supply shortage in good equestrian camps. It's a tempting offer that chance offers her, but in the end she's not here for a rapidash.

The relicanth does not even register in Erin's mind as a party present during their trip.

Despite it trying its best to be noticed, to time its jump above the pond's surface perfectly so that the small party would notice it, its efforts would be all in vain. How unfair for the poor pokémon. Such was life in a discriminatory world.

"This is a lot farther than I expected," Erin comments idly, as her eyes take in their surroundings. The young woman doesn't suspect her pokémon of trying to lead them astray, but this location is definitely much farther back than the one she remembers catching him in. "What were you doing so far away from home, you sneaky boy?"

The aggron fails to answer both because it's unable of human speech (and his understanding of it was very rough), and because he doesn't really want to admit that he's scared of going back home.

Interesting. Erin's body freezes for a fraction of a second, but curiosity gets the best out of her. Those signs don't scream of immediate failure, at least.

It's about time they visited Avalon's home, she thinks. Over two weeks ago, she'd taken the colossal steel type from this place by force, and not once had he stopped longing for a chance to see the place he used to call home.

glows brighter and stronger than ever, but she knows her trainer to be more a results-oriented person and she fears not being able to keep up with her expectations.

turned out pretty useless, in the end. Something may have blocked off her telepathic abilities.

Maybe the audino's too far gone to really offer any leverage for the gardevoir to look into. Maybe something bigger than them, an outside entity, deemed them unworthy of better luck. Whatever the case, they'd need to reformulate their plan.

Priam's approach is a lot more straightforward and it seems to do relatively better. "Follow his approach," she instructs the gardevoir, who doesn't offer another

helping hand

, but rather gathers a pink sphere of pure light energy. The

"Too lively." It's not regret that drives her words, but mere observation. To return some life to the pokémon, or to prioritize the experiment's execution?

Erin honestly doesn't see the appeal of harming one's own body as an escape mechanism, to run away from problems, anymore. She may have been a heavy drinker back in the day. It may have been fun. A bit of everything until she stopped deriving fun from it.
