So a mascot contest huh... That brings back memories. Back in Alola, kids were having fun designing totems, the looks of the tapus and the likes. Needless to say, Balder also took part in these endeavors. And now was the time to bring out his artistic talents once more. With a few strokes from his brush, and some airbrushing skills, Balder's ultimate creation was complete!

Mateo was definitely ready for battle. Good. Having 3 of his pokemons out proved he was cautious, even though he was also revealing half of his team in doing so. But knowing the pokemons doesn't necessarilly determine the winner of the battle. At least, with the lineup he had, Mateo had a good coverage on any types of pokemon he could encounter. But would he be able to win nonetheless?[break][break]

As the ground kept on rumbling, a totem began to rise up from the ground. Located on the left of the door, the totem seemed to be made of clay and rocks, formed together to give a rough result. Nonetheless, it was easy to determine the markings upon it. Claws extended upon either side, a head staring at the ground with whiskers on either side of its muzzle. Black and dark brown paintings served to create some markings and accentuate the looks of the creature represented: a mole.[break][break]

Following the reveal of the totem, the tremors stopped... Until it resumed a few seconds later, stronger then ever. Suddenly, the ground erupted a few feets in front of Mateo and his team. Rocks exploding everywhere, a creature emerged from the rain of soil and dust: Excadrill. About twice as big as the rest of his species, his markings in a bright red hue and his skin in a darker shade of brown, the creature stared down his opponents for today.[break][break]

Feeling like this would be a tough fight, the pokemon decided it was time to call for backup! The mole began to emit a deafening screech, hoping to attract a pokemon to help him. Following the roar, Simon the Excadrill began to summon the elements, rising up a Sand Storm upon the battlefield, allowing him to hide in the sands and prepare his assault upon his master's opponent. Maybe with the stat boost that the totem provided (Speed + Attack up), the creature would make short work of his enemies?[break][break]

It seemed like the challenger was displeased with the attention he was getting. Somehow, Balder was not surprised about this. Kyle didn't seem like the kind of guy who would enjoy this kind of noise around him. But this was needed for now. Balder had to do it, to show the world how his Gym worked, that they can be interested in the methods of Alola.[break][break]

Back to the hole-filled land that the challenger stood on, nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary. That is, until a pillar-like object emerged from the ground, close to the gate of the Silver Spire. A totem, arboring multiple fire and earth related colors upon it. The carvings upon it seemed to represent the life of a creature that feeds itself on itsects: The Anteater. The shape of an Anteater's face was shown at the highets point, it's tongue swirling around the rest of the totem.[break][break]

Following the emergence of the object, movement could be observed in some holes. Flames flashing through, as if something was trying to make it's way out. Soon after, a creature climbed out of one of the holes: a Heatmor. Not the regular kind too, for his skin seemed to be a deeper read and he seemed to be bigger then the norm. Maybe that was caused by the Totem enhancer?[break][break]

The creature's eyes settled upon the challenger and his pokemon. It was time to make his master proud. The Anteater stomped the ground before roaring, calling upon an ally in the vincinity. Still, without waiting for said Ally to arrive, the fire pokemon lashed out, using his signature move Fire Lash and extending his extremely long tongue covered in fire to try and attack the Mightyena.[break][break]

Who would've thought that these rapidly outfitted buildings would contain mankind's best creation: an onsen? You'd think that the castle wouldn't have such installations, as it had been remade recently to accommodate such an event. Still, it was a welcomed addition for a battle weary Alolan warrior, one such as Balder. After fighting on the warfronts on rogue missions, as well as train his pokemons, he needed to get some rest.[break][break]

The man had stumbled upon this location by mistake, after getting lost again in the Hyacinth Hall. A pleasant surprise though, as he was something he definitely needed. Seeing this as an opportunity, the man wandered inside the Boys section and proceeded to take his clothes off in the locker part. He hid his pokeballs in the basket, under his clothes, before heading towards the inner section.[break][break]

The inner room was... breath taking to say the least. Quite spacious, easily housing 20 individuals in the water and having more people cleanse themselves at the shower stations. This was well planned for sure. The Alolan Avenger proceeded to cleanse himself with one of the shower stations before sliding into the hot water pool. As he sat in there, Balder's muscles began to relax and he let out a long satisfied sigh. Finally, some rest.[break][break]

That... was clearly a lie. If her goal was simply to confirm the rumors about team rocket being here, there had so many other ways to do it. To begin with, there were a few of them roaming the roads that led to Slateport, so she would've noticed them and confirmed the rumors this way. And she also wouldn't have walked on the beach so openly if she simply wanted to confirm their existence. "If you want to lie about why you're here, you might want to use a more gullible reason. But I won't pry further."[break][break]

As the Maril got close to them with a pokeball in its paws, the Alolan giant began to move forward. Now that everyone was gathered, they had no reason to stick around. Hopefully the little blue mouse would follow. As they moved, Olivia began to ask if he was interested in helping other individuals just like how he helped her today. Was she asking him if he wanted to become a ranger or help her around? Or was she offering herself to be a princess in distress at every ocassions?[break][break]

Hopefully it wasn't that last one. Balder can't always go and save her, he tends to travel around since there's nowhere for him to buckle down right now. Yet her offer was... intriguing to say the least. "You'll need to provide more details, and vow to be more careful next time. But I have to say that it sounds interesting. What exactly do you have in mind?"[break][break]

Who knew this would open the path for him to become a Gym trainer for Sootopolis' gym? Maybe he would even become its leader at some point? Thus concludes the first meeting of Olivia Abbiatti and Balder Schwartz, the beginning of a new adventure.

Balder smiled as he heard Kyle's suggestion. Pass it as training huh? That would be one way to explain how he acquired an egg, because saying that a crazy old man gifted it to him randomly would most likely sound weird, and he preferred that Olivia didn't know about him trying to become a Gym Leader while he was still her gym trainer.[break][break]

"Will do! And be careful with all the dogs! I'll see you again someday." And with those parting words, he brought out two pokeballs. The first one, he used to store his Charmander, to ensure nothing happens to him during the flight. As for the second one... Opening it revealed his Braviary, Falco.[break][break]

As it appeared, the giant bird let out a screech and positionned itself to allow Balder to get upon his back. The Alolan giant proceeded to get upon it, holding the egg close to him and tightly. After securing his position and the egg's position, Balder directed his bird towards the general direction of Sootopolis. With a few wing beat, the Braviary took flight, heading back to their home.[break][break]

Wait, so she had done exactly what he said? Forcing a 3 on 3 with one of each evolution stage... What was Olivia thinking? Plus having the challengers fight him first too... Overall, that didn't sound like an ideal way to have her gym acknowledged by other trainers. But if the challenger was alright with it... Guess there's nothing more to say.[break][break]

But what Kyle said somewhat troubled Balder. A batch of new pokemons at 90% discount... That sounds extremely weird. While there had been rumors of a black market and such going around recently, the fact that Aero acquired a bunch of pokemon at extremely low cost felt... wrong somehow. How could someone sell his pokemons to somebody else so easily and at such a low cost?[break][break]

Still, Balder didn't let his thoughts show upon his face. Instead, he focused on the man's last words. His mightyena huh... Seems like he was quite fond of him. "I'm not scare about what the egg will result in. One way or another, I'll raise the creature to the best of my capabilities. It was simply the circumstances that led me to acquiring the egg that had me appalled." [break][break]

Suddenly, Blaze started to whine softly, signaling his trainer that he was feeling uncomfortable. Balder proceeded to grab the egg from the lizard's hands, keeping it in his arms. "Well, seems like I need to go back now. Gotta fly all the way back to Sootopolis before Olivia wonders where I vanished and have her questioning me."[/color}[break][break]

It seems like, even if an Alolan Golem was her Charizard's natural enemy due to his Rock/Electric typing, she believed she could still win. And the Charizard was quite proud of herself, going as far as to puff smoke in the creature's face. At first, Geo looked unfazed by the smoke, almost looking calm. Until Balder noticed his pokemon crench it's fist. Instants later, electricity began to rise up around the creatures body. The metal sand that formed his bear and mustache moved to the top of his head, rising to form some sort of spiky hairstyle.[break][break]

As he saw his pokemon get enraged, Balder couldn't help but sight as he put on some rubber gloves he had for emergencies like this. If needed, he would grab his pokemon from the cannon on his back and restrain him. Or return him to his pokeball. But so far, the rock creature seemed to contain itself, not jumping at the dragon-like monster that stood before him. The Alolan trainer turned his head towards Stormy.[break][break]

"It's good that you accomplished so much since you came to Hoenn. But that doesn't answer my question: What do you strive for now? If you keep looking at the past, what you've accomplished, you'll miss everything else. And I'm sure that's not something you want. Especially when you got the potential to do so much more."[break][break]

Balder looked behind him, at the rocky area outside of the tunnel. Maybe this could be a good idea. His gaze turned back to the fire gym leader and Wadjet. "Since geo and Wadjet seems to be ready to go crazy, why don't we allow them to let loose? 1 on 1, me against you. Maybe you'll learn a couple of things during this fight."
