[attr=class,text]It hadn't been long since he had met Olivia, and she had requested him to join her gym as one of it's key trainers. As the magma trainer. And the only fire pokemon he had was Ash, the Cyndaquil. Geo could fit in the magma theme, and Tetsu as well, but not Falco and Nuts. He needed to gain new partners, to get stronger. And what better place to acquire new fire pokemons then the surroundings of Mt. Chimney? Even better is to go near it's core, down the Fiery Path, where the hottest fire-loving pokemon lived.[break][break]

For this Expedition, Balder decided to go as light as possible. Only wearing a black tank top and black pants, he was venturing down the numerous paths of the mountain, trying to find an access to the Fiery Path that he had heard about. It was his first time on this mountain, he ha donly heard of it the few times he had went to Lavaridge Town and only recently did he ask someone who seemed to be an experienced hiker about this location. It was that Hiker that mentionned the fire pokemons and the Fiery path where he could find a wide variety of pokemons.[break][break]

After a few minutes of searching for the location the Hiker had mentionned, Balder finally stumbled on the entrance. Hot air flowing out, proof of the right tunnel. As he started going inside, he couldn't help but feel like he should've borrowed somebody's water pokemon, or at least caught one beforehand. Still, he had come this far, it would be useless to turn around so soon. Calling Geo out of his Pokeball and having him venture before him, the duo began diving deeper into the mountain, searching for their future ally.[break][break]

People didn't normally venture deep into the fiery path unless they were searching for something. Granted, the same could be said for Stormy. It just so happened that this little area of sweltering heat was quite relaxing for most of her fire-type companions.[break][break]

It also meant that they were a little more excitable and rambunctious, tossing flamethrowers and stamping their feet in delight. The sun was warm on her exposed skin, but the ground underneath was even hotter. Her hiking boots were bold enough to withstand it, but it was likely she was hiding away some pretty sweaty feet.[break][break]

The resounding click of a pokeball being opened is what distracted her, and distracted Wadjet. Almost immediately the black-skinned Charizard bellowed, blowing hot air out of her nostrils as she took a threatening step towards the man. She automatically moved to defend Stormy, clearly appearing a little on edge.[break][break]

To be fair, Stormy's own heartbeat quickened at the sudden appearance of the man - the last time she had been caught off guard she had been kidnapped and tortured. Granted, she had to give the benefit of the doubt and not assume every person wandering out here alone was bound to attack her.. but still.[break][break]

"Easy, girl."[break][break]

Her hand would press up against the beast's skin, though it would jump at her touch and a low growl would sound, a warning. Stormy didn't seem to be deterred, though, as she then took a step in front of Wadjet to introduce herself.[break][break]

As sweat was gathering on the man's forehead, due to the heat produced by the core of the mountain, he and his partner came to a stop rather abruptly as soon as they had entered the path. Before Geo and Balder stood a dark-skinned Charizard, protecting her trainer from possible harm. The flying lizard stared them down menacingly and even released some smoke from her nostrils, seemingly ready to attack if something happened. Geo was about to get in front of his tamer, but Balder grabbed one of the rock pokemon's scale-like rock on his back, holding him from advancing. He then raised his hand gently in front of the Charizard, making sure to stay a few steps away.[break][break]

Before the gym trainer could say anything, the Charizard's tamer came out from behind the creature, telling her to take it easy. Balder lowered his arm and let go of Geo, who kept his gaze on the pseudo-dragon. The lady proceeded to greeting them, yet staying away. A safe choice, in this world where any rocket members could show up at a rather odd time. The young man bowed gently before the lady to begin introducing himself.[break][break]

"Good Afternoon to you as well, young lady. My name is Balder Schwartz, a Gym Trainer from the Sootopolis Gym. May I ask your n-" He couldn't finish his sentence as the cries of two digimons echoed through the path, seemingly coming from behind the dark lizard. Balder stood back up and looked behind the lady and her Charizard, noticing a creature envelopped in flames, charging at them. A combusken, already using his Flame Charge to try and assault them. And a second pokemon seemed to be following it from behind, although Balder couldn't tell who was the creature. [break][break]

"Geo, lock and load. Young Lady, I'll let you handle the creature behind Combusken." Hearing his trainer's command, the Alolan Golem roared and aimed the launcher on his back between the Charizard and her tamer. The electromagnetic cannon lit up, charging energy and making the rock in the launcher spin at an incredible speed. A white aura began to surround the rock, signaling it was ready to fire. "Do it. Stone Edge." The rock launched, slicing the air and hitting the Combusken around the stomach area, stopping his charge abruptly. Balder proceeded to throw a pokeball at the chicken fighter, capturing it in the spherical object.

Stormy's eyes would grow wide with surprise and intrigue as the man introduced himself. He mentioned the Sootopolis gym, and she thought briefly to an invitation she had been sent from that town. When she had first opened it, she had expected to see Freya Morningstar's name written on the return address. Instead, it had been a letter from 'The Crown' or some such, indicating a coronation. [break][break]

Was it coincidence that this young man hailed from the city?[break][break]

Before she could give her name, and before she could ask him a question of her own, she is interrupted by a flaming chicken rushing them at a breakneck speed. She is encouraged to take on the other Pokemon that's become interested in attacking them, and as she turns, she's met with a familiar frame.[break][break]

The Lampent looks a dead ringer for Hestia in her younger days, back before she had evolved into a Chandelure. Wadjet turns on the ghost-type, unimpressed with it's attempt to sneak up on them. The will-o-wisps the creature springs on her are dissipated as Charizard's skin reflects them easily. The flying-types claws slice through the face of the Lampent, which encourages the wild Pokemon to attempt to run.[break][break]

Stormy throws a pokeball easily, attempting a capture.[break][break]

"That's an interesting Golem you have there. I've never seen one look like that before. It almost looks like it knows electric-type moves, which is bizarre. You said you're from Sootopolis?"[break][break]

She seems a little suspicious, but appears mostly curious as she takes a step towards Balder.[break][break]

"My name's Stormy Silph. I run the Lavaridge gym not too far from here."[break][break]

It seems like the people of Hoenn hadn't seen many Alolan pokemons. Mateo had a similar reaction back at the farm too, but more exagerrated however. Her reaction was more composed, analytic even. And she had assumed Geo's second type accurately, surely because of how he used Stone Edge to stop the chicken fighter's run. "Me and Geo both hail from Alola. He's a regional variant that's normally referred as Alolan Golem. And, as you guessed, he is indeed electric type. As for my relation with Sootopolis, I simply work at the gym over there, helping the new Gym Leader. And some times protect the city and all I guess."[break][break]

The young man then listened to the lady's introduction. So she was the local gym leader... It almost seemed like Balder was meant to meet with gym leaders recently. First Olivia, now Stormy. Maybe next he'll meet the league's champion or something? "A pleasure meeting you, Stormy. I presume you came here for training or acquiring new pokemons for your gym?"[break][break]

As he said those words, another assaulter came rushing at them. This time, it was a fox on two legs: Braixen. A fire and Psychic type like this could prove to be quite an interesting addition to his team... As if understanding his trainer's thoughts, Geo moved toward the fox-like pokemon. Suddenly, electricity surrounded his fist, forming a spherical yellow aura around it. The opponent, seeing the golem equip his fist thunder, quickly retaliated with flamethrower, but to no avail. The Golem took the hit without flinching before roaring and hitting the fire-wielding creature in its face with his Thunderpunch.[break][break]

"... Geo, did you have something against him or her to be so reckless?" Balder threw his pokeball to capture the Braixen as he asked the question, wondering what his partner was thinking to act this way. It was quite an odd move from the Alolan Golem that normally awaited orders from his trainer. Unless... was he trying to impress the other two?

Stormy nods, a satisfied expression on her face. So she had been right, he was at least part electric type. She continues to look at him for a little bit longer, perhaps admiring the Golem's physique, before she eventually turns back to Balder as he continues speaking.[break][break]

"Protecting the city is important, don't scoff at it. That's a serious job that someone has to step up and do. Of course, the League do their best to protect the region in general, but it's easier when there are regular civilians who can step up to the plate of their own accord. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's watching people sit back and let everyone else do the hard work. When they don't offer a hand."[break][break]

There's a seriousness to her tone, and she crosses her arms over her chest for a moment to drive her irritation home. [break][break]

After a moment though, the woman resumes her cheerful disposition, even smiling at Balder.[break][break]

"Yeah! It's good to stay ahead of the game and in shape. Gotta keep myself on my toes, y'know? Never know what's next."[break][break]

Wadjet makes a rumbling noise in her throat, leaning forward to receive a pat. Stormy laughs a little bit at her companions constant need for affection. However, it doesn't take long for another pair of devious wild Pokemon to try and jump them.[break][break]

When Stormy glances down at her feet, she is pleasantly surprised to find a Darumaka. The small red Pokemon seems to have taken interest in her food bag, trying to use the Braixen as a distraction while he steals away her lunch for the afternoon. [break][break]

Unfortunately for him, he was not very stealthy. It would only take one puff of smoke from Wadjet and a stray pokeball from Stormy to catch him.

Stormy's face falls quiet and a little sad as she glances back up at Balder.[break][break]

"That must mean Nikolai has been replaced. I mean, that's a good thing. Sootopolis needs a new leader, a city that beautiful and powerful can't just be left unprotected. But.. I can't help but feel a little sad."[break][break]

"Worry not, I'm not scoffing at it. I just can't exactly qualify myself as the security guard in the city. But I do agree that those with the capacity of helping others, yet do nothing, are the worst." The young man observed her reactions, as she went from serious to relatively cheerful. And after that, sadness. Sadness normally shown when you lost someone you knew. So that Nikolai person was the previous gym leader... [break][break]

"I didn't hear much about the previous Gym Leader... I did learn that he was a good guy and quite helping kind in the city. But I didn't know about the end of his..." Balder stopped there. It wouldn't do well to continue about something that made the lady sad. For all he knew, maybe it had been a traumatic experience for her. "If you don't mind me asking, how long have you been a gym leader?"[break][break]

As he asked his question, he heard a faint wimper from behind him, a noise from a creature he didn't recognize at first. The gym trainer turned around to notice something yellow, lying on the ground near the entrance. A small white horn protruding from its head, the creature was barely moving, as if it was unable to handle the heat and was in pain. The alolan giant moved near it, inspecting its features. The pokemon was under the burn status and couldn't handle the heat either, which made things worse. And sadly... he didn't have any Burn Heal on him.[break][break]

Balder pulled out a pokeball and decided to catch the little fellow. Since he couldn't access any meds or a pokemon center, the best way to ensure the pokemon's survival was to have him stay in stasis inside a pokeball. The man stood back up, going back to stormy and her charizard. "Sorry about that, the worm needed to be tended to. Can't let him suffer out of his natural habitat. So, how long did you know your charizard for?"

The sadness quickly disappears from her face. It was momentary, fleeting. She had never formally met Nikolai, but had heard great things regarding him.[break][break]

"He did a lot of great things, I was told. It's a shame he's gone."[break][break]

Balder drifts off, not intending to finish his thought or press the issue. She's thankful for that, but quickly distracted by the next question that crops up. [break][break]

"Probably a little over four months. I've mostly been in training since then. The League is diligent about making sure their leaders are strong, which I admire. I have to admit, though, I do like the down-time between lessons where I can just be myself and not have to worry about besting my opponent."[break][break]

She winks, raising her arms over her head in a casual stretching motion before resting her hands on her head.[break][break]

There's a noise behind Balder, and she tilts her body to glance past him, eyes widening with curiosity.[break][break]

Wadjet does the same, eyes narrowing as she locks her sight on a young Tepig. It seemed to be snuffling about in search of something, and Stormy could only assume that the Weedle had been its target.[break][break]

Stormy gently pats her companion, who promptly steps in front of the Tepig to intimidate it while Stormy catches it. An off-handed look over her shoulder suggests the woman had heard Balder speak.[break][break]

"No skin off my nose. You did the right thing rescuing it. If you hadn't, I would have. Bugs aren't really my thing because they're so weak to fire-types, but I'm not heartless."[break][break]

She smiles, her normally hard features and serious manner breaking to reveal a genuine happy expression. At the mention of her Charizard, the black beast turns to look at the stranger, puffing smoke from her nose and putting on a posture of pride.[break][break]

Stormy laughs, shaking her head.[break][break]

"My best friend gave her to me as a gift before I became a gym leader. I was so overwhelmed I cried when I saw her. She was just a young Charmeleon then, barely recovered from evolving. I hadn't been sure that Kanto Pokemon even lived here, I was positive they had all been left on my home region. Didn't honestly think I'd ever see them again."[break][break]

She strokes her friend's neck, a nostalgic but sad look in her eye.[break][break]

4 months huh? That sounds like a relatively short time, yet Balder couldn't help but wonder if that was actually a long time for the gym leaders in this region? Not like he could base that experience on Alola, they were still proceeding with the Island challenges instead on changing their system to fit the other regions. But maybe that's why it had such a charm to it?[break][break]

As he was saving the Weedle, the Alolan Giant noticed that Stormy moved in with her Charizard, capturing the worm's oppressor. At least now, it was truly safe. And the lady somewhat praised him for acting, making him smile softly. "Guess you really like fire pokemons if you think this little creature can't stand up to them."[break][break]

Then, at the mention of its species name, the Charizard stood proudly beside her trainer, puffing smoke all the while. The winged lizard definitely knew she was an amazing creature and couldn't help but prove it. Kinda made Balder wish he had one too. To fly around with, to have fun and to better represent the magma theme of the gym he's in. One day, maybe he'll have one. The man listened to Stormy's talk about how she met her Charizard 4 months ago and how she believed they were only in Kanto. And then she showed an expression of sadness...[break][break]

"Ah, you're from Kanto I guess... I had family over there too. Still hoping they're doing well, even though they got that bunch of bastards controlling them." Balder's fist clenched as he remembered the Team Rockets that had taken over Kanto. Geo approached his trainer, placing his hand on the Alolan's arm. The man sighed and looked at Stormy, his expression clearly showing a mix of sadness and anger. "One day, the region will be liberated. And you'll be able to see all the pokemons that were from that region. And if you still have people you know over there, you will see them again."

Stormy laughs out loud, a snort of contempt at his indication that that tiny Weedle might have actually been able to defend itself against the Tepig, or any other fire-type for that matter.[break][break]

"Of course not, they're weak to fire. That's like, common knowledge. Especially Scizor. I almost kept my Scyther, but it was way too dangerous for him to even try sparring against my fire-type Pokemon."[break][break]

If it wasn't already clear in the way she'd responded, Stormy really liked fire-type Pokemon.[break][break]

That brief cloud of sadness and nostalgia is fleeting, quickly replaced by energy and preparedness. Kanto was in the past, Hoenn had become her future. As kind as Balder was to relate to her story, she had moved on. [break][break]

"There's really nothing left for me in Kanto. Honestly? I'm not sure there ever was. I'm proud to be here in Hoenn."[break][break]

She smiles and nods at Balder's mention of liberating Kanto. But right now, that seems like a wishful dream, something that may never come to pass. Rocket's influence was too great, and the League was too scared to use extreme force to get their way. It was only a matter of time before something broke and war broke out.[break][break]

"I'd like that, but it's better to focus on the present, not the future. It's safer that way."[break][break]
