Yeah something like that sounded about right for a child Adam had thought to himself as he watched the Mudkip. It was either that or coming up with really silly names like calling a feline Pokémon kitty or a Pidgey birdy. This girl though hadn’t ceased to put Adam in a perplexed state, she called them by numbers?

Despite this, he wasn’t sure which part bothered him more, the fact that it sounded like a cold way of dealing with your Pokémon or that she had a point. Both, both were equally annoying and were going to drive him crazy thinking about it.

She seemed sort of paranoid about something, and given her situation it wasn’t hard to think of what she might be worried about. Adam smirked thinking about it, it was funny in a sad sort of way.

”Probably.” He replied. ”From the sound of it you treated Pokémon more like a math equation than living creatures.”

Well this one was definitely a bit strange, even considering the whole rocket thing. While it did raise some questions Adam didn’t dwell on it, he wasn’t here to get chummy with the girl just make sure she didn’t do anything stupid and stuck with what she was supposed to be doing.

Still it was a bit weird, watching her felt like watching someone who just got their very first Pokémon but that wasn’t the case with her. Though this was the first time she thought about really naming her Pokémon which was weird. He wondered how in the world she was referring to them before.

”Oh?” Her words pulled him out of his thoughts. ”Oh Yeah sure, Blue’s a fine name.” A bit on the simpler side but hey it still worked.

”What in the world were you calling your Pokémon before?” His curiosity got the better of him.

He blinked. Did she just suggest what he think she did? There was so much that Adam wanted to get into but for now he’d hold his tongue….they’ll get to it at another time. Her response to his question was a bit surprising but given how she, well, was he supposed it wasn’t that astonishing.

”Naming a Pokémon is something you should put some thought into, sure.” He began, walking closer to the girl to look down at the Mudkip.

”But don’t stress so hard over it, it’s not the end of the world.” He added, giving a wave and a smile to the little mudfish Pokémon.

”I dunno there are a lot of different ways or angles to approach when it comes to name-giving.” He walked away, stretching his arms as he did so.

”You could name it after its color. Something related to the Pokémon’s species so like you’ve got a Mudkip there so you could name it after something well known about the Pokémon.” His words stopped to give himself a moment to think about it.

”Like how they’re known for being quite strong for the small size and they’re water type so maybe something like Tsunami, Wave, Typhoon. Some shit like that. It ain’t rocket science you can really name it whatever just try and avoid something dumb like puppy or some crap.”

He raised a brow at her, not a lot of people ask him the logic behind the names of his Pokémon. What sort of a question was that? Was there something weird about the name?

Adam scratched the back of his head followed by letting out a deep sigh. If he knew that he was going to have to play 20 questions with her he would have asked for a raise or something. Or maybe he should have brought something with him to either distract her or himself. Either way he didn’t really want to get into it but he supposed he will.

”Why?” He began, remembering the origin. ”A lot of reasons, I suppose.” Adam took a brief pause to pet the Lucario that stood next to him.

”Partly because I was a kid and I thought the name sounded cool. Also because of the Lucario species connection to aura, which aura to some is considered the life force of living beings. There “souls” if you will. And he’s a very patient and compassionate Pokémon, as a lot of heart….a lot of soul.” Explaining all of that got him a bit sentimentally, even going down memory lane which had distracted him.

He snapped out of it quickly, shook his head and then turned to the girl.

”Why do you ask?”

What in all hell were they thinking giving him all of people this assignment. Showing some rookie the ropes wasn’t something Adam was keen on doing in the first place but what made matters worse was this wasn’t any normal kind of rookie.

An ex-rocket brat, one that the league decided to take in like a stray poochyena, was the rookie in question’s last occupation. When told this, Adam immediately rejected the job but he didn’t have much of a choice in the matter. What sort of sick twisted joke was this? A man who hated rocket now in charge of taking care of one?!

Well, here he was now, watching the girl with an ever so fun unenthusiastic look on his face. ”Hmm?” He’d look to the girl and then to the Pokémon that stood at his side, his Lucario. ”His name is Soul.” Adam answered.

”And be careful with that Mudkip, it’s not a toy.”

Alright here’s what I got in mind for these two! Adam’s assigned as basically a mentor for Iris. He’ll show her the ropes of being a ranger teach her the tips and tricks while also keeping an eye on her to make sure she’s doing what she’s supposed to and not regressing back to her rocket ways. It’ll definitely start out shaky at first. First, Adam despises team rocket quite a bit and secondly, he doesn’t like the idea of being someone’s babysitter. Add on top of that the way she acts with her Pokémon will have him want to throw her out of a window.

All that being said her disposition towards fellow man is what’ll make Adam not think she’s a waste of time and a dirty rocket thief, coming around to thinking hey maybe there’s something here. Then he’ll warm up towards her and they can be best buds.

Adam busied himself by making sure the nearby Pokémon were alright and getting to safety. It was nice to see them all animated about doing this job but running in head first and bumming rushing it? Well if that was the plan then screw it.

”Alright Kanē! Time to get crazy! Back Goodra up with a DRAGON CLAW” The Garchomp didn’t waste any time lunging into the air at the robot his claws glowing a dark blue, surrounded by energy. The Dragon would then slash at the robot as he passed by it.

Maybe she had gone a bit too far in her messing around with this dragon. Sure the little shit probably had it coming but had she known that this was going to be the result then she probably wouldn’t have gone all the way through with it, or have planned for the aftermath.

She had landed on the tree from before, revealing in her work but was quickly knocked off of it due to the Vibrava’s Boomburst. She wasn’t the only Pokémon to be affected as others reeled back in response to the dragonfly’s wailing. How can this damn brat get more annoying?

”Quit it out!” She shouted, managing to fly over to the Vibrava.
”What are you even crying about?! You were stealing other people’s food! You’re lucky this is the only thing that happened to you.”

Tis the season for helping people out, right? At least that was what Adam repeatedly told himself as he foolishly agreed to help someone out with their babysitting gig. Now Adam wasn’t the worst with kids, hell, the man’s got more siblings than he can count so he was used to dealing with them and was good at it. But someone else’s kids?

And more important from the sounds of it these kids are nightmares. Ho boy, this was going to be a hell of a day and most certainly not worth the amount of money he was going to get paid.

”Don’t go thanking me just yet.” Adam responded as he looked at the scene in front of him. ”Jeez they’re already causing such a ruckus.” He let out a deep sigh. ”Alright let’s get to wrangle them in.” Adam would release his Arcanine. The big fluffy dog enjoyed kids and the little demons loved him as who wouldn’t love a big fluffy dog?

Many of them flocked over to the Arcanine, who was enjoying the attention. It'd be nice to give the absol a break from being the one-man petting zoo. Some climbed on him while others pet him.

”Pro, keep them in check alright. And none of you get too crazy.” They’d find out real quick how nasty an Arcanine can get when they get mad.

Adam would then turn to Orion, pointing to the kids with his thumb. ”Got a lot of experience dealing with kids?”

Well he most certainly screwed the pooch pretty hard on this one. It was Mateo’s birthday and what was Adam doing? Not celebrating it with his friends no he was busy doing ranger work. Out there dealing with natural disasters, helping people and Pokémon coexist that sort of crap.

The job he was dealing with in particular today had him wrestling with pirates, which was fun. Adam always had a problem of being somewhat of an adrenaline junky and he worked hard to get it under control but every now and then it’s seep up and he’d do something like this.

And now here Adam was rushing to get to the beach so he didn’t completely miss the party. ”We’re not that late right?” Adam looked over to his Lucario who walked by his side before they stepped on the beach.

The Lucario gave him a glance and shrugged which Adam responded with a sigh and moved on with Lucario and his Arcanine following behind. Both Pokémon carried some items with them for the party.

”Eh, knowing them they probably just got started.” He laughed, knowing that his tardiness probably was arriving on them with this group of crazy kids.

”HEY!” Adam shouted out to the group as soon as he saw them, waving as he did. ”Looks like the gang is all here.” And of course he was the last to show up. ”Nice to see everyone! Sorry I’m late, and to deal with some uh work stuff. So Happy birthday, kiddo.” Adam said with a smile, walking over to mateo martinez and giving him a pat on the shoulder.

”I got you a little something, got this all the way from the Al-“ He botched this whole gift giving part as soon as he realized he wasn’t actually carrying it on him. ”Ah crap! Where did I put it?!” Luckily for Adam he had a guardian angel in the form of his Lucario who handed him a box that was wrapped up rather nicely.

”Oh man thanks Soul! You’re a lifesaver!” What a relief! ”Here ya go! Happy birthday again!”

”Well damn.” Adam laughed. When Kyle brought a distraction the boy did brought his A-game. Though maybe he did too well of a job considering now everything was flooded. With that taken care of Adam took the long way to get around the Camerupt, having to swim a bit to get through. The room beyond was dimly lit, the only real light source being a serious of screens that surrounded who Adam figured was the culprit.

A small portly looking fellow with a headset on was sitting at these screens, around him where holes which were probably the result of the Gabites digging about. ”Well, well, well.” Adam walked towards him, cracking his knuckles as he did so.

The headset man didn’t realize Adam was there at first until he was towering over him. ”Looks like we’ve found our puppeteer boys.” The death stare Adam was giving the smaller male sent chills down his spine.

Before he could even say anything Adam and his Pokémon got to work dishing out a punishment to teach him a “lesson”, the only sounds that could be heard coming from the room were that of the man screaming.

”Alright we’re done here.” Adam would say to Kyle and Mateo, the culprit being dragged along by Adam’s Garchomp.

”This piece of shit is our guy. While I Was teaching him the valuable lessons of friendship and harmony he called off his Pokémon, there won’t be any more fires.” Kanē would hand what was left of the man over to the authorities that popped up.

”Thanks for the assist guys, always nice having you two watch my back.” Adam said with a smile, patting the two on the shoulder. ”How about for the help I treat you guys to some food? Whatever you want, ya? Just ya know don’t go overboard, I ain’t made of money.”

Adam blankly stared at the woman and her army of “dragons” as she went on with her speech. ”Whaaaaa?” Was all that came out when she said the word smitten. Adam and his Lucario, who was also extremely confused, exchanged puzzled looks.

Out of all the things she could have possibly done this was the last thing that Adam expected. And honestly he probably would rather just get back to pretend fighting cause this was really out of left field. ”Married?!” What a twist! Even the crowd gasped at the proposal given by the supposed Dragon Conqueror.

”But if we get married what will Mateo think?! Unless this is you admitting that it wasn’t Mateo you’ve been after this entire time it was me!” How scandalous! ”I mean if we do this, what should are we going to tell him?! How will he take it?!” So many things to consider! The man then snickered, knowing full well he was being a pain.

After clearing his throat he’d play along with their little show. ”Of course I shall take your hand! Truth be told I’ve felt the same way!” He declared, hamming it up for the audience.
