As the Silvally skids to a halt and Orion's heart hammers in his ears, the trammel's shriek draws his gaze to the raging seas. He has time to register the sillhoette of a god, a legend, Kyogre, before the beam of light strikes it with a deafening, dangerous bang. The sea surges up to meet them, and Orion's grateful that Silvally had managed to spirit them away from the coast in time.[break][break]

"Kyogre..."[break][break]

There's something wrong in the way it twists and writhes; it's suffering.[break][break]

Its rage is misdirected, aimed not just at the aliens who had wrought such destruction upon its seas but on all those who fled from its primal wrath. Orion can only watch in horror as the pulses of origin energy carve through beast and human alike. It feels like treachery to assault a creature deemed divine by so many, but Kyogre leaves them with little choice. Vulnerable organs pulse on its fins, and the councilman draws a shaky breath as his gaze fixes upon them.[break][break]

"Percy, we have to..."[break][break]

Silvally understands. Silvally is already one step ahead. It crouches down and forces Orion to dismount before its body once again glows with violent energy. Orion has only time to will it to, "Be careful," before it launches itself toward the corrupted god with a BREAKNECK BLITZ, hoping to slam into Kyogre's RIGHT FIN.[break][break]

Reaching him at last, Hydreigon sets up another REFLECT as Slowking's EXPANDING FORCE targets any Megalopolan in their vicinity.[break][break]

As the western pillar crumbles beneath the combined force of their attacks, Orion's gaze is drawn by the brilliant beam of light that erupts from the eastern horizon. Silvally looks toward it, too, and the councilman can see the exact moment his chimera's bloodthirst calms.[break][break]

"Oh, Percy, thank the gods—" and Orion's never been particularly reverent, even of Hoenn's own legends, but his gratitude is genuine and raw as he throws his arms about Silvally's neck. "I was so worried for you, buddy, I'm so glad you're OK."[break][break]

His attention snaps to Kaida Adachi as she calls to him, and he nods.[break][break]

"We're with you!" To his Pokemon, he says, "We're going for the town! Hydreigon!"[break][break]

But it's Silvally who acts, gently tugging at Orion's sleeve to draw his gaze. Free of its confining helmet, the chimera's white mane shifts as it lowers its head and side-eyes its trainer with intent. It takes but a moment for Orion to realise what it wants: Silvally is taller even than the councilman, who was by no means a stout man, and its powerful muscles bunch as Orion clambers aboard. A nervous energy builds in his throat, a wild grin captured in his expression despite their dire circumstances.[break][break]

"All right, Perce..."[break][break]

He throws his arms around Silvally's neck once more. He expects Percy to run, but what he does not expect is the brilliant glow that begins to surround him. Orion has time to tighten his grip before the Silvally takes off with a BREAKNECK BLITZ toward the town. It's the only time it's ever used a Z-MOVE.[break][break]

Orion's other Pokemon are as surprised as their trainer, and can only follow at regular speed. They lash out at any cubes that come close, with Swampert capitalizing on the ice and hail to bring an AVALANCE down upon them. Hydreigon continues to leverage its tail with BREAKING SWIPE, and Slowking refreshes the PSYCHIC TERRAIN they've since left behind. The town was a battleground; it would likely be more useful here regardless. Without the guidance of their trainer, the Pokemon act upon their own instinct and reason.[break][break]

Relieved that Silvally is back to itself, Orion moves to follow Kaida. Silvally urges him to climb aboard and then uses it's Z-MOVE: BREAKNECK BLITZ to charge toward the mountain through the town, knocking aside anything in their way. From Bulbapedia, 'The user builds up its momentum using its Z-Power and crashes into the target at full speed.'[break]

Slowking uses PSYCHIC TERRAIN once more, because Thorn's determined to blast some aliens with Expanding Force at least once this raid.[break][break]

For a moment, there is hope.[break][break]

No longer obscured by the horrific helmet, Orion can see clearly the moment Silvally comes back to itself. His relief is short-lived. Hail rains down from the sky and strikes the chimera, sparking its bloodthirst anew. Orion scrambles to his feet as Silvally is restrained, but he does not abandon his Pokemon. He can't. This is my fault. If he hadn't colluded with Cotillard, if he hadn't followed his direction—[break][break]

His wallowing is interrupted as Silvally begins to glow. "I-I've never seen him do that before—! Percy, please!"[break][break]

As its trainer pleads with their former ally, Swampert takes action of its own accord and erects a WIDE GUARD in an attempt to counteract the falling hail. The violet-hued mud fish positions itself between Orion and Silvally, ready to accept the brunt of whatever attack may come. Slowking continues to exert its PSYCHIC energy, holding back the aggressive Pokemon as best it could.[break][break]

"Hydreigon, the pillars!"[break][break]

The three heads of the dragon swing in unison toward the WESTERN PILLAR created by the Stakataka. Snarling, the dragon seeks to turn the very EARTH'S POWER against the pillar, assaulting it with jagged spikes of stone.[break][break]

At first, Orion sees no reason to disturb the garden's chubby interloper. Chansey were well-known as healers, gentle souls, and the ranger never chased off any Pokemon who visited his garden under peaceful circumstances. He reclines in a folding chair and shares berry juice with the Exeggutor who watches over the trees, eyes half-closed as he finally manages to relax. There's not nearly enough time to relax, nowadays.[break][break]

It's his Pokemon that alerts him to trouble, in its own way — the clumsy tree knocks the glass of berry juice from his hand and Orion snaps to attention. He's about to scold it when he notices its attention is fixed on the Chansey, whose stubby arms are stained green from the innards of low-hanging fruit.[break][break]

A sharp whistle draws Chansey's attention to him, an attempt to dissuade her from pilfering any more, but to his surprise she flings a handful of berries at him instead. No more Mr. Nice Ranger.[break][break]

"Well, we tried," he sighs some minutes later, as he crouches over the unconscious normal-type and administers basic aid. A few of his Pokemon are called out and set to the task of carrying the Chansey off to regain consciousness well away from the garden. "I really don't want to have to put up a fence, or worse, but at this rate..."[break][break]

He shakes his head, and goes back to sit down.

As the flurry of ice and snow subsides, Swampert's thick limbs slamming down on the sandy shores, Orion can only watch as the Buzzwole tears off the dragon's wings as if it were made from paper. The councilman turns away from the grizzly sight and swallows bile.[break][break]

"There's a boat," Orion calls out to Kaida Adachi, gesturing frantically toward a speedboat bobbing near the shore. Its owner appeared to be missing, perhaps dead. Orion spares little thought to the details. "We should — we have to get out of here before..."[break][break]

His frantic gaze finds the Buzzwole; it's explanation enough.[break][break]

His Hydreigon would fly faster without the burden of his weight; Orion chooses to reach the speedboat with the aid of his Swampert, instead. Upon reaching the boat, he climbs aboard and guns it toward the Seaside town. Should Kaida Adachi choose to follow, he waits for her to board. His Pokemon pursue by air and sea, Hydreigon manipulating the SURF to their advantage.[break][break]

Orion dismounts upon making land upon the shores of the Seaside town, and then something slams into his chest and knocks him to the ground, driving the air from his lungs. He struggles instinctively against the crushing pressure before looking up into the sinister glare of a familiar Pokemon — Type: Null. The chimera's helmet has shattered, exposing a brilliant white mane and crest. More alarming is the bloodthirst in its eyes. It pins him to the beach with its weight and its claws, snarling as it goes for his throat. The councilman braces his arm against the Pokemon's chest, desperately trying to hold it off.[break][break]

"Don't hurt him!" Orion pleads, even as the chimera's claws press into his flesh. Wide eyes lock with those of the monster he'd created. "Percy, buddy, it's me! Y-You're OK, I promise!"[break][break]

Reacting with protective instinct, Orion's Slowking does its best to stay the Null's assault with its PSYCHIC power. In spite of the danger Orion faces, Slowking abides by the Ranger's wishes and focuses on restraining rather than wounding the feral Pokemon. Orion attempts to wrestle out from under the chimera.[break][break]

In spite of their efforts, Buzzwole persists.[break][break]

Orion hears Kaida's shout over the roar of wind and the buzz of insect wings in his ears; while unsure if it was a command to her team or a suggestion to the rest of them, he follows the advice with haste. His Hydreigon was his only Pokemon on the field and this high in the air, it would spell disaster to be knocked off or have the dragon faint beneath him.[break][break]

His three-headed mount twists in the air as they plummet, one of those heads lashing out with another BREAKING SWIPE at their relentless foe.[break][break]

When they reach ground, or close enough to release his team without them coming to harm from a fall, Orion frantically presses the buttons on their capsules. Swampert, Slowking, and his favourite weapon against these otherworldly monsters: his chimera, Type: Null.[break][break]

"Slowking, set up! Swampert, Percy, attack!"[break][break]

Slowking and Swampert are quick to obey. The air shimmers as the former sets up a PSYCHIC TERRAIN, then grows cold under the force of an oncoming AVALANCE prepared by the mud-fish.

As a Ranger's Pokemon, Nephelai is no stranger to lighting the way. The friendly Lanturn lets out a happy trill as she's directed by her handlers for the day, bumping her snout against a hand before turning to swim along the designated path.[break][break]

When she reaches her marker, Nephelai's light glows bright and welcoming. Another Lanturn follows the train's intended route, alerting its fellows of the incoming locomotive. Sure enough, it approaches not long after.[break][break]

Nephelai chitters as the train passes by, performing tricks underwater to amuse the passengers staring idly from the windows. Her lantern lights sway with the motion, but not once does their glow falter or dim. In no time at all, the train has passed her by.

Though his Hydreigon strikes true, it's thick tail slamming hard against the Beast's proboscis, it does not break. The creature does not falter, not even under the combined assault of all their Pokemon. Orion pales as he watches it pierce a girl's Salamence (@sanvi) and drain it dry. There is no help to be had; by the time Orion's fingers clench around his Slowbro's pokeball, the dragon's already dead.[break][break]

Wide, dark eyes find Kaida Adachi's as she points to the town. He nods.[break][break]

There was no other choice, not for Orion. His Hydreigon was the only Pokemon available to guard him, and if it went down... Orion's gaze finds the churning black waters, the Nihilego lurking like some beast of the deep.[break][break]

"Go." Orion echoes Kaida's command in a whisper, directed to his mount. Hydreigon, aggressive though it was, possessed an understanding of their need for silence. It turns from its prey, a shimmering REFLECTIVE barrier shrouding the team as it rushed forth in pursuit of Kaida and Muspel. It was difficult to see them through the swirling sand, but both mount and rider knew their end target: the seaside town to the east, where the alien forces had congregated.[break][break]

Before they stray too far from the beach, Orion attempts to recall the three Pokemon left behind. Regardless of success or failure, he then follows Alexander's lead into the skies.[break][break]

It feels safer up here, at first. Under cover of clouds and away from the threatening wave, it's almost comforting.[break][break]

Such illusions are shattered as a great red something bursts through the clouds, heralded briefly by the call-out of a man Orion doesn't know (Sénon Game). He gives him a sharp nod of acknowledgement and leans against his Hydreigon to direct it away from the others, just in time for the Buzzwole to begin its assault.[break][break]

Recognizing threat, Hydreigon snarls before swinging its thick tail toward the Buzzwole's proboscis with a BREAKING SWIPE. Orion narrowly avoids being flung off by the momentum, desperately clinging to the Pokemon's middle neck.[break][break]

The air turns bitter cold, colder even than the harsh winter Hoenn had suffered the previous year, and Orion shivers as he uses the yacht's rail to drag himself to his feet. Snow and hail announce the presence of one of Kyle's dogs, but the councilman isn't prepared for what follows.[break][break]

The attack looks harmless at first, carving its path from the skies, but that illusion shatters as it touches the waves and obliterates the pirate ship with reaching spikes of ice. [break][break]

"Holy fuck," he breathes, awestruck.[break][break]

It's shaken off a moment later. The pirates had tried to kill them. Had the hyper beam landed, they would have succeeded. Orion spares a regretful thought for the families of such savages before whistling to draw the attention of his Dhelmise. Upon the blast of cold, the sentient anchor had retracted its hold upon the ship.[break][break]

"Sink it!"[break][break]

A WHIRLPOOL forms beneath, consigning both the ship and its inhabitants to the deep.[break][break]

In the aftermath, Orion looks to Kyle, rattled. "It was them or us."[break][break]

As the barriers erected by Orion and others flicker and fail, the councilman curses under his breath. Trammels pulse with otherwordly energy, Ultra Beasts slip from the skies, and the wave—[break][break]

Though gripped by terror, nothing has ever measured up to the fear he'd felt upon ascending an elevator in Ultra Space and witnessing the Megalopolans macabre feast. They would not take Hoenn so long as he stood. His features twist into a determined snarl.[break][break]

"STONE! I'm coming with you!" Without waiting for any confirmation, the councilman grabs the neck of his Hydreigon and hauls himself aboard. "Go on ahead, I'll follow after! Got something to deal with, first..."[break][break]

"I'm going to try and redirect the wave! Help if you can!" He calls out to those around him (ALEXANDER STONE, Sénon Game, DAPHNE STONE, @sanvi, Kaida Adachi, Celeste Abbiati, Alexei Ivanov, Andrew Fisher), but raises his voice to hopefully be heard by others as well. "Hydreigon!"[break][break]

With a throaty roar, the three-headed dragon does its best to take command of the tidal wave with its SURF.[break][break]

Orion's other Pokemon are instructed to remain behind to defend the shores; if they were to pursue a stealthy assault under cloud cover, the trio couldn't follow. Their attacks target anything that strays too close: HYDRO PUMP from the Swampert, AERIAL ACE from the Type: Null, and the Slowking's PSYCHIC burst.[break][break]

Orion chooses to follow ALEXANDER STONE and Kaida Adachi when the screens break. (They're heading north under cloud cover, as detailed in Alexander's round 1 post.) He targets the tidal wave first and will follow them after, so as not to compromise their attempt to stealth.[break]
He mounts up on HYDREIGON, who uses SURF on the incoming tidal wave in an attempt to slow, stop, or reverse its path. Calls out for anyone with Surf or similar water attacks to assist.[break]
Orion's other Pokemon will remain stationed on the beach to assist in defense.[break]
Type: Null uses AERIAL ACE, Swampert uses HYDRO PUMP, and Slowking uses PSYCHIC on the closest threat(s).[break][break]

He has never seen Lilycove so empty. With the League evacuating citizens inland en masse, the bustling city feels more like a ghost town. As a Ranger, Orion is stationed in Lilycove to defend those who choose to remain. On the third day of the war, the sky darkens, and the councilman resigns himself to his fate.[break][break]

Veterans of the New Years attacks, the first time Orion had experienced an alien assault, his Hydreigon and Swampert stand sentinel beside him. The latter's hide retains a sickly purple hue as if scarred by the Nihilego's poison. His Type: Null had not been with him during the new year, but it had seen something worse — Ultra Space, the home of the monsters who now threatened theirs.[break][break]

Slowking is green in comparison, but no less determined.[break][break]

As chaos erupts along the shores and attacks begin to rain down, Orion's Pokemon make their stand. Slowking provides a SAFEGUARD against the poisonous spray as Hydreigon sets up a REFLECTIVE barrier. Swampert's WIDE GUARD blooms like an umbrella around them.[break][break]

"TAKE COVER WITH ME!" Orion calls over the chaos, offering sanctuary to those closest. "My Swampert will protect us!"[break][break]

Type: Null snarls at the sight of the beasts it had been designed to destroy. The Beast Killer seeks to ensure that there will be no recovering from the assault of the Hoennians upon their alien enemy as its HEAL BLOCK takes effect.[break][break]
